Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who faces re-election in 2014, is doing his part to model the new spirit of moderation and bipartisan compromise that the GOP hopes to demonstrate to voters in the days ahead.
Here’s how he begins a new email message sent out to supporters:
Dear Patriot,
You and I are literally surrounded.
The gun-grabbers in the Senate are about to launch an all-out-assault on the Second Amendment. On your rights.
On your freedom.
Just the other night, President Obama urged them to act. And then he went one step further, spelling out the 23 different Executive Orders he will take to get your guns.
My friend, our freedom is under direct assault.
From those who want take your guns. From those who want to shred our Constitution, and as our good friend Rand Paul from Kentucky says, from those who want to be King.
Let me tell you, Mitch McConnell is ready to lead the fight to protect your rights.
Will you stand with Mitch today? …
Below I’ve included the full list of 23 executive actions issued by the gun-grabbing “King Obama” regarding firearms. I confess to being curious: When McConnell describes these actions as steps that “(Obama) will take to get your guns,” which specific actions does he mean?
Is it the effort to keep identify people who are too crazy to buy guns? Is it the “national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign”? Or the order to trace all weapons recovered in the commission of a crime? The initiative to train first-responders on how to respond to a school shooting?
Every American voter ought to read McConnell’s letter (full text here), read the list of executive actions issued by Obama, and then decide for himself or herself which party represents the sane, rational way forward for the people of this nation.
1.) Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
2.) Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
3.) Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
4.) Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
5.) Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
6.) Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
7.) Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
8.) Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
9.) Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
10.) Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
11.) Nominate an ATF director.
12.) Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
13.) Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
14.) Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
15.) Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
16.) Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
17.) Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
18.) Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
19.) Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
20.) Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
21.) Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
22.) Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
23.) Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

more gun control…that won’t reduce gun violence by any significant measure
1) How could it hurt? And don’t talk about this “They’re tryin ta disarm us!!” crap. If you can’t feel safe without an assault rifle and 3,000 rounds of ammo, then you’ve got a problem.
2) So you’re saying we shouldn’t bother making laws because the bad guys are going to commit crimes anyway?

Of course this old fart is nuts! I knew that right off the bat when he proclaimed the GOP’s key objective during Obama’s first term was to limit him to one term, thus employing obstructionism to kill every idea Obama had — even though many of those ideas were first hatched by Republicans. The guy reminds me of an old, wrinkled turtle. And his recent gun letter is just another fine example of the Pubs ginning up votes by fear mongering and outright deception. The people of Kentucky should recognize that his old man should be put out to pasture and send him packing in 2014!

Say what you want, but here are a few facts: Obama is redistributing wealth. Obama is causing small businesses to lay off employees to get under 50 to avoid obamacare regulations. Obama is raising taxes on just about everyone except the very poor. Obama continues to spend more than any other US president with no end in sight. Obama will leave office with a national debt over 20 trillion, leaving your kids that heavy burden.

“As someone posted in another thread, if your first reaction to the news of the Newtown shootings was to rush out and buy a gun and worry about the government taking your guns, then perhaps you need a morality check!”
Fallacious thinking. Buying a gun has nothing to do morally with an event such as Newtown. Questioning someone’s morals for doing so is ridiculous.

Adam, from below, do you actually think there are managers out there thinking “well, I was going to pay Sally less than Steve because she’s a she, but because Sally can now sue me further back in time, I think I’ll pay her the same”?
Unless you believe there are actually people making their pay decisions that way, then the bill did NOTHING to help women achieve equal pay. But as usual, you liberals are all about feel good legislation that does nothing for any real world problems, but it gives you that tingling feeling up your leg as if you’ve actually done something.
Kinda like all of Obama’s gun grab garbage that won’t do anything to prevent the crimes he claims show the need for them. Just another feel good waste of time.

The country gives far too much gravity to backseat driving. How does the state of Kentucky get one point on the Richter scale of politics? We, as showed in Deliverance, written by local writer James Dickey, have breeding grounds for the mentally challenged, in this country yet our most articulate rightwing representative come from these thinly populated, incestual, geographies And if that is not enough they now have mobile reconfiguration of congressional districts like butterfly nets to capture the purest of the weak minded.

Going by liberal logic they should then ban hoes and machetes in a subsistence agrarian country. Even in a 3rd world country like Rwanda the people realize it wasn’t the hoes and machetes that killed them. It was the hands that wielded them. Moral of the story? 3rd world people get it. American liberals don’t.

Because to have an honest debate on an event that ALREADY happened, you need to have an open mind. Not the mentality of heads I win, tails you lose…..

World jobless numbers rise, says UN labour agency
The number of jobless people around the world rose by 4 million in 2012 to 197 million and is expected to grow further, the UN labour agency warns.
In a report, the International Labour Organization (ILO) said the worst affected were youth: nearly 13% of the under 24s were unemployed.
It said global unemployment was projected to rise 5.1 million this year and by a further 3 million in 2014.
The trend reflected a downturn in economic growth, the document said.
This was particularly the case in developed countries.
‘Massive waste’
The report – Global Employment Trends 2013 – said that 6% of the world’s workforce were without a job in 2012.
It revealed that long-term unemployment was also growing, pointing out that a third of Europe’s jobless had been without work for more than a year.
Many were giving up, with the report estimating that 39 million people had withdrawn from the labour market.
“An uncertain economic outlook, and the inadequacy of policy to counter this, has weakened aggregate demand, holding back investment and hiring,” ILO director general Guy Ryder said.
The report also called for more funds to be injected in vocational training to equip young people to do the jobs available.
“This is a massive waste of the lives of young people and their talents, and extraordinarily damaging to the people themselves and their societies,” Mr Ryder said.

Seriously folks,
I’m open minded about solutions but I realize that there is danger in the world and that there are inherent dangers and risks in everyday life. We can’t insulate ourselves from all manner of risks. Nor should be because the cost would be prohibitive. We could station 1 or 2 cops in every elementary, middle school, and high school in the country. But at what cost? We lose more small children to swimming pool drownings every year then we ever will to random shootings by a crazy man.
And lastly exactly how much in resources should we spend to counter a nearly impossible to detect crime- a lunatic who takes guns from a legal and lawful gunowner and then embarks on a madman’s mission. Do you guys think about any of these things? Or do you just regale in taking a supposedly morally superior stance regarding guns?- While all the while ignoring the realistic ability to stop such events as well as the sheer cost of protecting against such random horrors?

While like BRAIN DEAD ZOMBIES you lemmings follow Obama over the FISCAL CLIFF of 2013 …. you concern yourself with gun control which is simply a favorite Obama tactic to take your mind off of the coming Big “D” of 2013…… sure to be Obama’s legacy ’cause even HE can’t create enough smoke and mirrors to change the fact that the BUCK STOPS HERE!

“Hey conservatives, looks like capitalism’s really sucking wind, struggling mightily just to cut the mustard in delivering wide-spread prosperity for the world’s peoples.”
Perhaps you would be happier in a worker’s paradise- like say North Korea. And btw much of the world doesn’t even practice real capitalism anymore- certainly not Western Europe which seems closer to socialism. Perhaps that is the problem.

” Anyone who is or has ever experienced and been treated for something as minor as depression (experienced by millions of people) is “mentally ill”? ”
“Depression is “minor”???
so, now the only thing we have to worry about is if they hear voices – anything else is inconsequential.”
So anyone who has ever been depressed, but never given any indication of any violence of any kind, is unfit to own a firearm? Like I said, it becomes all too easy for the government to have an excuse to confiscate the firearms owned by civilians.

Probably after the next slaughter of children.

Plain Truth: “Just as the Nazi’s thought that Jews were less than human and disposable…the Democrats think unborn babies are less than human and disposable! They all will stand before God one day and explain these murders”
But by your coldness towards and contempt for the realities and needs of the people actually living and struggling, the women who have real needs and hardships, you betray the emptiness of your claim to a higher moral ground and of your cause.
You’re bankrupt.

Guns and all the death that goes with them, are the price we pay for our freedom. Military style assault weapons are a whole different animal, they should be totally restricted to whom they are sold to. In other words, an intensive background check. Something must be done about the availability of this type weapon to people losing their minds…

Lets see, IF there was a national registry for assault weapons, the perhaps the ATF could have known that a person had purchased several assault style weapons (the shooters mother) and could have found that she was a “doomsday” believer, in that she was stockpiling guns to protect from all those “coming to get her.” It MIGHT have registered on someone’s list.
I have yet to see any credible report that the CT shooter’s mother was a doomsday prepper. It was stated that she was worried about societal collapse by her EX SISTER IN LAW.
The guns and ammo she had in her home were not that much for someone who takes up sport shooting as a hobby.
So you going to have police investigate everyone that might, in someone’s opinion, have too many guns?
When did libs quit being defenders of civil liberties? 2008?

Are you joking Jay?
The whole point is that ‘King’ Obama is trying to regulate us to death. This list of ‘executive actions’ proves that point; just more dumb rules that help strengthen the dfederal bureacracy and make do-gooders feel even better about their control. And will do next to nothing to curb gun violence.
Where is his list of demands on the entertainment-gore industry?
