Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell of Kentucky, who faces re-election in 2014, is doing his part to model the new spirit of moderation and bipartisan compromise that the GOP hopes to demonstrate to voters in the days ahead.
Here’s how he begins a new email message sent out to supporters:
Dear Patriot,
You and I are literally surrounded.
The gun-grabbers in the Senate are about to launch an all-out-assault on the Second Amendment. On your rights.
On your freedom.
Just the other night, President Obama urged them to act. And then he went one step further, spelling out the 23 different Executive Orders he will take to get your guns.
My friend, our freedom is under direct assault.
From those who want take your guns. From those who want to shred our Constitution, and as our good friend Rand Paul from Kentucky says, from those who want to be King.
Let me tell you, Mitch McConnell is ready to lead the fight to protect your rights.
Will you stand with Mitch today? …
Below I’ve included the full list of 23 executive actions issued by the gun-grabbing “King Obama” regarding firearms. I confess to being curious: When McConnell describes these actions as steps that “(Obama) will take to get your guns,” which specific actions does he mean?
Is it the effort to keep identify people who are too crazy to buy guns? Is it the “national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign”? Or the order to trace all weapons recovered in the commission of a crime? The initiative to train first-responders on how to respond to a school shooting?
Every American voter ought to read McConnell’s letter (full text here), read the list of executive actions issued by Obama, and then decide for himself or herself which party represents the sane, rational way forward for the people of this nation.
1.) Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
2.) Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
3.) Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
4.) Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
5.) Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
6.) Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
7.) Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
8.) Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
9.) Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
10.) Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
11.) Nominate an ATF director.
12.) Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
13.) Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
14.) Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
15.) Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
16.) Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
17.) Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
18.) Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
19.) Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
20.) Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
21.) Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
22.) Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
23.) Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

You guys never let go of the “we have so many more murders here in the US than in Canada and UK” propaganda. Though it may be true, there is no way anyone here saying it can positively identify gun ownership as the reason, and certainly not LEGAL gun ownership.
Did you know that violent crime rises with ice cream sales? This is a well-documented fact. So a moron would say we need to eliminate ice cream to drop violent crime. A smart person understands though that correlation does not necessarily indicate causality, and the actual REASON that violent crime increases with ice cream sales is because of temperature;
http://bjc.oxfordjournals.org/content/32/3/340.abstract
Yes, the US has more murders than Canada and UK. Yes, the US has more guns.
SO WHAT? This could be attributed to MANY factors besides gun ownership. Racial diversity, economic inequality, education opportunities, social programs, history….but the militant left anti-gun propagandists latch on like a pit bull to what they believe is the only possible cause – LEGAL GUN OWNERSHIP.
The militant left refuses to acknowledge even the possibility that other factors could come into play. Here’s another great example…did everyone notice the looting, riots, burning, etc. that occurred right after Hurricane Katrina here in the US? Compare that to the complete LACK of looting, rioting, burning, etc. in Japan after being hit with a Tsunami, earthquakes, and nuclear meltdown. Is it just possible that we have factors besides legal gun ownership at play that cause such a different reaction here in the US?
It’s really not that hard to understand why so many gun owners are so certain that the militant left and the current administration DOES intend to disarm LEGAL gun owners.
Comrade Feinstein said on CBS-TV’s 60 Minutes, February 5, 1995, “If I could have gotten 51 votes in the Senate of the United States for an outright ban, picking up every one of them . . . Mr. and Mrs. America, turn ‘em all in, I would have done it. I could not do that. The votes weren’t here.”
Also, anyone from the militant left care to comment on the increase in violent crime AND gun crime in the UK after guns were confiscated?

Pat Quinn, a Democrat and gun-control supporter, said Wednesday. “I think that’s where the people of Illinois are on this issue and anything having to do with guns and assault weapons like that. Justice Scalia, the most conserevative justice to ever sit on the Supreme Court, says that you do have a constitutional right to own a handgun to protect your home and family and you do have a constitutional right to own a rifle or shotgun to hunt. However, he says, you do NOT have a constitutional right to own an assault weapon. For all you gun nuts out there and conspiracy theorists, the government is not trying to take away your guns. 82% of all people, and 74% of NRA members support background checks for anyone buying a gun. Nobody needs an assault weapon for protection or to hunt. A majority of people in this country are sick and tired of innocent children being massacred. Sensible gun legislation in not unconstitutional, and that’s according to the most conservative justice on the Supreme Court.

I don’t see anything in the EO list that details the enforcement of prohibiting citizens from carrying the tanks, missiles, and automatic weapons that every lefty on here says is all they want to do.
Looks like to me the EO is covering everything down to 9MM hand guns.

Okay Thusula…I’ll play along.
Lets see, IF there was a national registry for assault weapons, the perhaps the ATF could have known that a person had purchased several assault style weapons (the shooters mother) and could have found that she was a “doomsday” believer, in that she was stockpiling guns to protect from all those “coming to get her.” It MIGHT have registered on someone’s list.
So lets say her son was receiving some sort of mental health counseling…then they could have alerted authorities to some of his thoughts and they could have put two and two together about an unstable kid in the home with assault rifles…
THAT could have lead authorities to check in to see if the mother had proper gun locks on the weapons…
…how am I doing so far??
Again, NO ONE HAS SAID THAT NEWTOWN WOULD HAVE BEEN PREVENTED with these new measures. The sad part is when tragedy strikes, no matter when or where, we REACT to those tragedies and try to understand what, if anything, could have been done to prevent it.
As someone posted in another thread, if your first reaction to the news of the Newtown shootings was to rush out and buy a gun and worry about the government taking your guns, then perhaps you need a morality check!
We are Americans. We can do better….and “talking about” it is NOT the gateway to “Kenyan socialist, brown shirtted, Nazi loving, freedom hating Commies” coming for your guns….

“ALL the countries above America have 100% gun bans”
WHAT a load of bollocks.
Picking one at random: Costa Rica:
Costa Rica law allows for possession of most personal self-defense items other than firearms without licensure or permit. Products such as pepper spray, collapsible batons, stun guns, tasers, etc. are all available for purchase by the general public from a variety specialty stores. Legal use of any such item is limited to self-defense from a credible threat of physical harm.
As for firearms, everything from the types of weapons allowed to whom can purchase/import, own and carry with an appropriate license is regulated by the Ministry of Public Security’s Department of Control of Weapons and Explosives Law #7530 (Ministerio de Seguridad Pública, Departamento de Control de Armas y Explosivos Ley 7530).
If an individual desires to legally purchase/import and own/posses a firearm in Costa Rica they must:
a) be a Citizen or Permanent Legal Resident and;
b) be authorized to posses a firearm via a Certificate of Theory and Practice (Certificado de Curso Teórico Practico de Armas de Fuego) from the Departamento de Control de Armas y Explosivos or;
c) hold a valid Costa Rica Permit to Carry a Concealed Weapon (Licencia para Portacion de Armas Particulares)

It is none of the federal government’s or my doctor’s business if I own a firearm. #4 is especially disturbing. Eric Holder is a crook, a deadbeat and a liar. He has no business telling me if I can own a gun or not or establishing categories of those than can.
These 23 executive orders, some of which have merit, will not stop the next Sandy Hook. If the liberals, including Feinstein, could strip every American of gun ownership, they would do it in a New York minute. All of this window dressing BS might appeal to the average liberal voter who would follow most anything that King Obama said but have little credibility in the real world. Think that all of these 23 edicts will stop the gun violence in Chicago, Detroit or Atlanta? If so, you are indeed the most naive liberal that ever lived.

USinUK;
“considering that the NRA made it a priority to PREVENT them from studying gun violence, there must be something there.”
Really? That’s pretty simplistic reasoning.
First, gun violence is NOT a disease. Is Rape a disease? Burglary a disease? Auto theft a disease? It’s a LAW ENFORCEMENT issue.
Second, the CDC is BLATANTLY liberal, not even remotely objective. The militant left wants to use the CDC to generate scientific SOUNDING propaganda with a government seal of approval.
So yeah, there is something there alright!

Those are not unreasonable questions to ask if treating a person who might have liver issues or many other actual medical problems that result from too much alcohol. And also, there is no law saying they can’t ask those either.

Prescription drugs and cars kill more folks than guns
That is SO true!
Why just the other day, this student at _____________ School, brought in a loaded prescription bottle to school, (it had about 150 pills in the bottle). He opened the bottle and preceded to THROW it at students! There was mass hysteria before he was stopped. 25 people, including 15 KIDS, were hit by those pills and have been traumatized beyond repair!
Now, they won’t even take any pills and the Drug Lobby is ANGRY!
As for the cars, well, you KNOW how badly they affect people! Yesterday at ______________ School, a teenager, angry at his mom for making him use zit cream, rammed his 1994 Ford Bronco repeatedly into the building trying to get to other students! He didn’t actually hurt anyone other than himself, HOWEVER; he has traumatized beyond repair HUNDREDS of kids! Now, they won’t even take up Driver’s Ed anymore and the Car Lobby is ANGRY!
We need to ban PILLS and CARS!!! Who’s with me?!?

Did not vote for “W” or Obama. because they are BOTH wasteful big spending FISCAL liberals I am a FISCAL conservative ( do not spend beyond your means). The definition of INSANITY is to keep spending decade after decade beyond your means until you destroy the USA. What we have now in Congress is PARTY LOYALISTS on BOTH sides that put their PARTY and their reelection ahead of LOYALTY for the FISCAL future existence of the USA. We need TERM LIMITS for Congress to rid ourselves of these PARTY LOYALISTS gorging themselves at the tax payers trough. We need a BALANCED BUDGET amendment to the Constitution to end this addictive insane cowardly destruction of the FISCAL future of the USA.
