Chip Rogers’ price a cool $150,000

From Kristina Torres of the AJC:

Former state Sen. Chip Rogers will start his new job Tuesday earning a lofty $150,000 – making him the seventh executive at Georgia Public Broadcasting earning six figures annually, despite a rather pedestrian title: “Executive producer, community jobs program.”

The position, like others at GPB, is paid solely through state taxpayers’ money. But it is more than Gov. Nathan Deal and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle each make in their public jobs.

And it is more than what some of Rogers’ new colleagues made in the last fiscal year, including GBP’s vice president for radio and its chief information officer.

Rogers, of course, is the former Senate majority leader whose crank theories — land-use planning is a UN conspiracy to take over the country; Georgians must be legally protected from microchips being implanted in their brains — made him an embarrassment. His colorful business dealings — claiming that he could not be held liable for a major loan because it was the bank’s fault for being stupid enough to lend him the money — only added to his “charm”.

In effect, the governor is paying Rogers to go away to a place where he can do less harm, and he is using $150,000 in taxpayer money to do so.

Failing upward is more lucrative than most of us imagined.

Just another example of the great Tea Party con. You would think Georgia, the capitol of the Red State Confederacy, would show some evidence of that Tea Party philosophy their followers have been conned into.

It’s a terrible thing.

PBS is the only bastion of intelligent programming on the airwaves. It needs to be kept free of right wing extremists. Look at what happened next door in Alabama. They appointed a politician and religious right lackey to the board and he tried to force PBS Alabama to air videos made by professional liar and faux historian David Barton. In these pieces Barton insists the Founding Fathers intended America to be a Christian nation. When the top brass as PBS Alabama refused to air such garbage they were sacked.

Talk about your entitlement programs. Chip Rogers gets a bunch of taxpayer dollars for contributing absolutely nothing. Sickening, truly sickening.

Another reason to quit funding PBS and NPR. I don’t think the next pledge drive will mention the need for donations to support their new useless executive, but people will pony up anyway, because Big Bird’s existence is so vital. If our children don’t get started learning early, how can we expect them to attain an 8th grade reading level, by the time they graduate from high school.

Well, if they need another good GA citizen at PBS I reckon I could tear myself away from this beer truck driving job for $150,000. And I’d do a real good job. For example I always wanted to see the Rev. Jim Bob Buice get his own TV show. And the state couldn’t keep him from preaching on it because he wouldn’t be around little kids while he was telling us the Good Word. Having him on there would be alot better than some Climate Change program or other librul junk.

Anyhow, I’ll always be grateful to this Chip Rogers for keeping thugs from chasing me down and putting a chip in my brain. My brain works real good the way it is, it don’t need no chip to super-charge it.

In closing I just want to give a shout-out to all the folks for a real good FNM this week. When we got to playing the Beach Boys I knowed we was on the right track and it wasn’t just the PBR I was drinking at Billy Bob’s.

It’s too cold for golf today and besides Joe Bill don’t want to get his new Goodwill golf shoes all dirty from the mud that all the rain made. So I reckon I’ll just stay in the trailer today. Have a good weekend everybody.

Two questions:

1. How long does he get to stay there before the deal is done? (This was a deal, right–you go away and “work” for GPB?)

2. Why does this AJC reporter seem to think it’s especially interesting newsworthy that a broadcasting outfit would have a some people making more than $150K? (I might be misreading that, but that was my takeaway.)

It is not as if his pay was unusual. The Georgia Lottery Chief gets $350,000 plus $200,000 fringe benefits. It is the way of the world, public servants make more than their counterparts in private enterprise. The ones in the private sector pay taxes to support the public servants in luxury.

$150K a year. Must be a real important job. So important that PBS interviewed exactly ZERO candidates for it. Honey Boo Boo is more qualified than Rogers.

The entire article mentions that the head of GA PBS was NOT pressured into hiring Rogers – yeah right (roll-eyes). She goes on to say that Rogers has really dug in and studied hard to be knowledgeable when he starts his new gig.

Well folks here we go again. You libs love to argue for more governmental power and cronyism then you go crazy tryi g to put it in cons faces when a government official abuses his governmental position. You see libs, the folks who vote against big government are serious. If we had it our way there would be no taxpayer funded television station for Chip to run off to and hide. It’s you libs who believe government should be running TV stations with taxpayer money. Jay why not mention that part of the story ?

Some day libs will understand, given the chance government is naturally invasive. It’s like Kudzu. Power is enticing and abuse of it often comes from those who want to do a good thing. That’s why we as cons don’t trust the case that you libs make. EVERYONE wants more pay, the government is the entity with the power to take from you to get it for them.

Jay I hope your next story is about how much money your liberal buddy’s make off the taxpayers in their retirement, we know its a lot don’t we ?

There’s some “growing up” needed by some here. If an elected official needs to be moved aside, the voters don’t do it, and there is no grounds to send him/her to jail, this is the way it is done. It happens all the time in government and similarly in business. It will be surprising if Rogers is still at GPB by the end of Deal’s term. On first blush it’s offensive, but most likely worth the bucks in the end.

FOOD FOR THOUGHT:

“Wow, is Illinois and Chicago great or what?

Perhaps the U.S. should pull out of Chicago ?

Body count: In the last six months 292 killed (murdered) in Chicago .

221 killed in Iraq AND Chicago has one of the strictest gun laws in the entire US.

President: Barack Hussein Obama

Senator: Dick Durbin

House Representative: Jesse Jackson Jr.

Governor: Pat Quinn

House leader: Mike Madigan

Atty. Gen.: Lisa Madigan (daughter of Mike)

Mayor: Rahm Emanuel

The leadership in Illinois – all Democrats.

Thank you for the combat zone in Chicago .

Of course, they’re all blaming each other.

Can’t blame Republicans; there aren’t any!

Chicago school system rated one of the worst in the country.

Can’t blame Republicans; there aren’t any!

State pension fund $78 Billion in debt, worst in country.

Can’t blame Republicans; there aren’t any!

Cook County ( Chicago ) sales tax 10.25% highest in country.

Can’t blame Republicans; there aren’t any!

This is the political culture that Obama comes from in Illinois .

And he is going to ‘fix’ Washington politics for us???

George Ryan is no longer Governor, he is in the big house. Of course he was replaced by Rob Blagojevich who is…that’s right, also in the big house. And Representative Jesse Jackson Jr. resigned a couple of weeks ago. That is because he is fighting being sent to…that’s right, the big house.

The Land of Lincoln , where our governors make our license plates.

But you know what? As long as they keep providing entitlements to the population of Chicago , nothing is going to change, except the state will go broke before the country does.”

Are you suggesting all of our ills started 40 years ago with Reagan and his crooks? History will continue to be kind to Reagan no matter who has an opinion. We felt strong. Bush, for all his shortcomings, was over-reacting to 911, we were afraid and wanted payback…other thing to consider is that we have never been attacked with so many deaths in the history of our country. I think his preoccupation was to make sure that didn’t happen on his watch again, despite the fact that he really had no hand or real opportunity to stop this. We have seen, even in BO’s term, how boggled the communication is with our various intelligence and defense resources…

You know it is already almost virtually impossible for an adult to get cash welfare in Georgia–only about 3400 total in whole state–and that Medicaid for non-nursing home adults is also quite difficult to get. Now, one of of Deal’s criticisms of Obamacare exchanges is that it will direct 100,000 “eligible” folks to Medicaid (his words, not mine) who are not currently on Medicaid rolls. Now what would you do to reduce further the 3400 adults on cash welfare and reduce the number of non-nursing home adults currently receiving Medicaid as well as keeping the 100,000 additional “eligible” Medicaid recipients that Deal predicts will be added as result of Obamacare?

My son then looked up at me and said, “Daddy, can I be nicknamed Chip?” I felt so proud. I said to him, “Yes Chip, you can.”

Vice President Joseph R. Biden’s claim that he heard the gunshots of a 2006 school massacre while playing golf is raising questions about his veracity or his memory.

Mr. Biden told a meeting of mayors in Washington Thursday that he was about a quarter-mile away from an Amish schoolhouse on Oct. 2, 2006, when a gunman shot and killed five students and wounded five others.

“I happened to be literally — probably, it turned out, to be a quarter of a mile [away] at an outing when I heard gunshots in the woods,” Mr. Biden recounted. “We didn’t know … we thought they were hunters.”

But a search of maps of the area in Lancaster County, Pa., shows the nearest golf course to the site of the shooting, Moccasin Run Golf Club, is about five miles away. Rodney King, the golf pro at Moccasin Run, said Friday he was working at the course on the day of the shooting and never saw Mr. Biden, who was then a U.S. senator.

Bear with me. First, a very short story:

A man came up on a restaurant owned by cannibals. On the menu, he saw: North Carolina barbecue, $10. New York cheesecake, $5. Georgia politician, $250.

“Why does the Georgia politician cost so much,” the man asked.

“Have you ever tried to clean one?” the cannibal inquired.

Second, was that Chip Rogers I just saw hauling butt up Marietta Street with a guy in a chef’s hat right on his tail?

I could be mistaken.

Why does he have to be a Republican to line up all the illicit gains? Seems to me Ray Nagin was a democrat that used public office to line his pockets. I still laugh when I think of that cowardly little weakling, Mitt Romney saying he was going to defund PBS.

We are very disappointed that PBS became a political target in the Presidential debate last night,” PBS said in the statement. “Governor Romney does not understand the value the American people place on public broadcasting and the outstanding return on investment the system delivers to our nation.”

“Elimination of funding would have virtually no impact on the nation’s debt,” it continued — “yet the loss to the American public would be devastating.”

Citing Romney’s self-proclaimed support for education, PBS said the presidential candidate should be in favor of funding public broadcasting.

Per the statement:

For more than 40 years, Big Bird has embodied the public broadcasting mission – harnessing the power of media for the good of every citizen, regardless of where they live or their ability to pay. Our system serves as a universally accessible resource for education, history, science, arts and civil discourse.

Over the course of a year, 91% of all U.S. television households tune in to their local PBS station. In fact, our service is watched by 81% of all children between the ages of 2-8.

Each day, the American public receives an enduring and daily return on investment that is heard, seen, read and experienced in public media broadcasts, apps, podcasts and online – all for the cost of about $1.35 per person per year.

Cons want their kids to be as ignorant, uneducated and willfully stupid as they are.

The money that PBS receives is less that one one hundredth of of one percent of the federal budget, so no, even the Uncle Sam haters are not dumb enough to contend that the reason is money.

They hate that Uncle Sam does something really great on a relatively tiny amount of money, which makes the profiteers and slime merchants look awful in the process.

You want to make some real dough? Make those parasites on those other channels pay us for using our airwaves.

THAT would be some real money…

RALEIGH, N.C. — Officials say three people were wounded when gunfire erupted at a gun show at the North Carolina state fairgrounds.

It happened Saturday at the Dixie Gun and Knife Show, a quarterly event that usually draws thousands of people.

State agriculture department spokesman Brian Long says a 12-gauge shotgun discharged while its owner unzipped its case for a law enforcement officer to check it at a security entrance.

Two bystanders were hit by shotgun pellets and taken to a hospital. A retired deputy sheriff suffered a slight hand injury.

Long says the shotgun’s owner, 36-year-old Gary Lynn Wilson of Wilmington, brought the weapon to the show to find a private buyer.

Wonder why Jay has not posted these numbers in all his anti gun rants this week. Could it be because it does not fit the Democratic narrative?

By NBC’s Mark Murray

As Washington prepares for a political battle over the Obama White House’s proposals to curb gun violence after the Newtown, Conn., shootings, a new NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll finds that the National Rifle Association is more popular than the entertainment industry.

Forty-one percent of adults see the NRA — the nation’s top gun lobby — in a positive light, while 34 percent view it in a negative light.

By comparison, just 24 percent have positive feelings about the entertainment industry, and 39 percent have negative ones.

The NRA’s fav/unfav score is virtually unchanged from its 41 percent-to-29 percent rating in the Jan. 2011 NBC/WSJ poll, nearly two years before the Newtown shootings.

“That seems to me to be a pretty remarkably stable figure,” says GOP pollster Bill McInturff, who conducted this survey with Democratic pollster Peter Hart.

But it’s a substantial improvement from the 1990s, when the NRA’s negative ratings outweighed its positive ones in the NBC/WSJ survey.

I’ve been around a while. I remember when conservatism was a political philosophy that stressed strong local government, strong national defense and planning (yes, government policy) that promoted a stronger economy, better opportunity and a better quality of life.
I have lived long enough to see conservatism become the opposition to anything “government,” – a political philosophy that great republicans – eisenhower, goldwater, ford, even bush 1 would barely recognize. Conservatism comprised of followers who will automatically bow to rhetoric.
Ultimately, the saddest thing is that people have lost that ability to see people for who they really are. Someone said earlier the voters who elected Rogers must have been pretty uninformed. That’s probably not true. They just couldn’t see what must have been obvious.

“Firearms owners and their advocacy groups headed to gun shops, shooting ranges other places Saturday as part of “Gun Appreciation Day.”

Organizers are encouraging gun-rights supporters to “send a message” to President Obama two days before his second inauguration by “lining up around the block” at gun shops, ranges and shows with a copy of the Constitution, U.S. flags and a “Hands off my Guns” signs.

“We’re just supporting the second amendment,” said John Kenney, who went to Clark Brothers Guns, in Warrington, Va., where the parking lot was full for much of the day.

Kenny said he visited the shop-shooting range in part to try to reverse recent efforts to make gun ownership “look ugly,” instead showing Americans owning a firearm is “a fabulous thing.”

Pool safety is constantly improving. Do you have any comprehension of what VGB cost to implement? Pools have fences and public pools have health/safety inspections annually and have to be updated frequently.

What’s VGB? I know that all Macon city pools were closed this past summer because the Feds required permanent installtions to accomodate the handicapped. They had temporary devices they could install for the handicapped but the Fed Gov determined these were inadequate. The City of Macon had no funds for the permanent installations so all city pools were closed. So instead of the inner city kids spending the summer at the local pools exercising and socializing they were at home playing violent video games, having premarital sex, taking drugs, and playing with guns.

Liberalism at work, in other words. Own it.

This kind of thing makes life difficult for moderate Pub/Cons these days. How do you defend the indefensible cronyism that is still rampant under the Dome and in the executive branch? One can only hope and pray that the same Gods of Politics that took down the Dem/Libs and King Roy will one day take these shameless, ultra-right, holier than thou, pompous, and “morally superior” hypocrites and political hacks down, just as they did with the Dem/Libs and King Roy back when their greedy and corrupt political reach exceeded their grasp.

The government (federal or state) no longer serves the people. It is now its own interest group, its own constituency, protecting and isolating itself and the right cronies and bureaucrats from the people that they “serve.” It is now all about preserving and maintaining government jobs, benefits, and perks. Ever notice how fast your property tax assessments for taxes go up in a boom market. Ever notice how slowly they go down, if at all, in a bad market? Just one little example.

So this pompous, holier than thou, not at all shy about working his high level “connections” gets an unnecessary, created just for him, cushy and high paying job because he screwed up big time in his regular job, but probably knows some things that are best kept quiet. Bidness as usual in Gawga, which, in case you have not been paying attention, is bringing this state down. Deal, entered the governor’s office in huge debt, and nearly flat busted broke – a fact he carefully kept hidden during the primary and the election. Wonder how many millions his net worth will be, at a less than $150,000 salary when he leaves office. It would be nice to know, but we never will.

MEDINA, Ohio — Accidental shootings at gun shows in North Carolina, Indiana and Ohio left five people injured Saturday, the same day that thousands of gun advocates gathered peacefully at state capitals around the U.S. to rally against stricter firearm limits.

Is that any way to teach your children about gun safety, cons, by putting their eye out.

Any clearly thinking individual would understand that no evidence exists to confirm or deny our kids are safer due to these superficial, political proclamations.

Here’s the logic. What has been proposed that in a common sense analysis, would keep this and other similar folks from getting into that or other schools? Second, do you think any of these proposals will really put a dent in the 310,000,000 guns in circulation…that we know about? Finally, what will be a kids response that he is safer since anyone who gets in his school with a gun will only be able to get off ten shots before he has to change cartrige..if he isn’t shot with first, he may be able to use the few second interval to escape?

Anything they do is all well and good, kids are no safer as a result of what BO is pushing…

I dont recall ever indicating any evidence existed but somethings are what they are. What evidence exists that our kids are safer? Old adage in my business about security, the best one can expect is to Deter, Deflect or Delay when considering breaking and entering. These laws do no such thing. An article about the state executive in power essentially buying off a political enemy all within the party in power is responded to by much gnashing of teeth about national politics, diatribe full of vitriol for the party out of power and very little examination or opinion about how the public SHOULD respond to this episode.

On Friday, First Lady Michelle Obama said the Obama campaign, officially known as Obama for America, will soon be turned into a 501 (c) 4 social welfare non-profit called Organizing For Action that can raise unlimited donations and will become “the next phase of our movement for change.” Former Obama campaign manager Jim Messina will become the group’s chairman of the board, Obama campaign strategist David Axelrod will be a consultant, and Obama media strategist David Plouffe will join the group once he exits the White House.

According to Politico, the group claims it will disclose its donors and not take money from lobbyists or political action committees (PACs), but will take unlimited money from corporations.

“It’s ironic and puzzling that a grassroots organization with a public interest agenda is going to take unlimited corporate money. It doesn’t square,” said Mary Boyle of Common Cause. “There’s one reason that corporations spends money on politics–they’re looking for something in return.”

I’m sure Jay will make this a topic in the near future? Yeah, when pigs fly.

The real question is what interest does Rogers a Neanderthal have with a progressive pocket of this state like educational television.

But then the same question could be added to the list of questions when we look at the Port Authority and many other entitlement positions that if managed correctly would greatly benefit the welfare of this state.

It is a matter of respect. You had Hitler in the day surrounding himself with loyalty, thugs being another definition, mainly because he couldn’t depend on a real thinking person carrying out his selfish and corrupt agenda.

This state cannot afford the luxury of entitlement; we are so far behind the rest of the world as it is. We need intelligent leadership in the few pockets we have a chance to advance it, not more monkeys for a zoo full of them.

An interesting one piggybacking on your @ 4:00 pm. As you know from SE, we’ve been looking more closely at a certain place over in the Magnolia State that Dr. King called “the most unfriendly town in the world.” It’s absolutely amazing to see how far they’ve come in the last half century.

I was pulling up info on the local “academy.” It was one of those segregationist institutions thrown up in a hurry when D-day came. Now? Looking over their web site, there are little melanin enhanced faces right along with the lilly whites and a few Asian and Latino ones. Seems it’s the school of choice for Nissan’s managers, etc.

Like you and I have said, we’re finally moving beyond racial segregation into class-caste segregation. I guess that’s what’s passing for progress…still, and all, though, it’s a heap sight better than it was.

Why should the parties work together? Look at how people treat each other here on this blog, for example. Why would you expect people who are supposed to differ accomplish something that we should do here and can’t? DC is nothing more than a grand reflection of all of us. The only thing I expect from them is more screw ups.

Yes, it is beyond disgusting, especially since it is so obvious that the fix was in. It would really be appreciated if the GPB officials would stop gushing about how great this is and how they were planning to do it all along, etc. and following the script provided by the Gov’s office, because even if the GPB execs are too dumb or naive to know the fix was in, the public — from whom they solicit financial support – is not. Wonder how those solicitations are going to fare in the future?

It does not bode well for the GPB, but the Pub/Cons now firmly and safely in power can do this kind of thing now without fear or recrimination or consequences. If the people don’t like it . . . tough toe nails. Of course the Dem/Libs (who ruled the Dome for 150 years) during the King Roy years thought they would be bullet proof forever too. Thankfully, things change in politics, and they change now more quickly than ever.

Rogers, despite just being a whacko wing nut, and an ethically challenged business man, must have known something, or had some ugly evidence or some dirty laundry tucked away, in order to get such chi-chi treatment and a big paying, cushy, unnecessary job created out of thin air. Interesting that the job did not exist or even have a job description until the Pub/Cons needed a place to park him. Just more solid proof that the political culture under the Gold Dome is no respecter of party or persons. In fact, it has nothing to do with party. This could have easily been an article about a rogue legislator and King Roy and the Dem/Libs during the King Roy years. Jes good ol’ boys doin’ bidness.

Why is that it’s OK to put shows on that promote the gay agenda, but it’s not OK to put a true conservative on its board? What am I missing here? The honorable Mr. Rogers worked hard for the state and did a job that he didn’t really have to do as a low-paid public servant looking out for the common man. Then, He rightfully earned his way into a good paying TV job. By the way, the honorable Mr. Rogers has a background in TV which makes Him even more qualified to take on the job. Dear All,

Atlanta is Losersville. In every conceptual way, this place is now the CAN’T DO city. Our attitude: Elect Republicans. Give them a super majority. Enable their corruption. Buy into their ideas that we just have to cut spending and cut government jobs and reduce regulations and sell our souls to any industry who wants to come and play for a few years (e.g. Kia, Caterpillar) and play defense and pray that our schools will get better, that somehow traffic will get better, and perhaps we’ll win the lottery. We can never ever plan for or invest in the future again.

Losersville.

Georgia is my native state and my home. It is, however, Losersville. Period.

Could you imagine Arthur Blank giving some crony a job as quarterback of the Falcons, for an entitlement or a backdoor compromise? Resumes mean something in the rest of the world; it just happens most of the right doesn’t have resumes, that is why they are in the right, couldn’t make it in the other party. This is like a banana republic; it is like the country sections off the nuts, the crooks, and the uneducated, sends them south. Use to be California had a lot of the loose marbles but they are now prospering under Brown. If Georgia is a show case for the right what could possibly be anyone’s motivation to be red.

everyone shold have a gun and know ho to use it.

…because this approach has worked so well in freedom loving nations like Afghanistan and Somalia.

The trendlines are pretty clear–rational Americans who do not keep a handgun in the home (and reasonable Americans who do, but who don’t see it as some absolute unfettered right) will so outnumber the gun-tards that we will have rational regs on ownership. It might not happen during this President’s second term, but it will happen.

meh, in the case of Chip, it’s more like some team taking on the contract of a crappy, past-his-prime guy who you don’t really intend to play, in a trade deal that includes something better.

Problem is, in this case the “something better” is “we don’t sell your operation for scrap, this year.” Which is what right wingers have been known to try to do.

We’ve been subsidizing black America to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars/yr since 1964. We have more of the black community on public assistance than at any time in our history. At lease corporate America produces jobs for those who choose to work, provides retirement programs for long term employees, up to now, has provided health care benefits for their workers and some sense of responsibility for those who choose to work. You compare apples and bananas, my friend.

The politicians on both side know what cuts really would improve out spending to GDP ratio and allow us to improve the debt imbalance.
