From Kristina Torres of the AJC:
Former state Sen. Chip Rogers will start his new job Tuesday earning a lofty $150,000 – making him the seventh executive at Georgia Public Broadcasting earning six figures annually, despite a rather pedestrian title: “Executive producer, community jobs program.”
The position, like others at GPB, is paid solely through state taxpayers’ money. But it is more than Gov. Nathan Deal and Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle each make in their public jobs.
And it is more than what some of Rogers’ new colleagues made in the last fiscal year, including GBP’s vice president for radio and its chief information officer.
Rogers, of course, is the former Senate majority leader whose crank theories — land-use planning is a UN conspiracy to take over the country; Georgians must be legally protected from microchips being implanted in their brains — made him an embarrassment. His colorful business dealings — claiming that he could not be held liable for a major loan because it was the bank’s fault for being stupid enough to lend him the money — only added to his “charm”.
In effect, the governor is paying Rogers to go away to a place where he can do less harm, and he is using $150,000 in taxpayer money to do so.
Failing upward is more lucrative than most of us imagined.

On a good note for the day. It does my heart good to see all these women standing up for the 2nd Amendment by purchasing guns and learning how to shoot them. I have heard from 6 different lady friends this weekend that have told me that they have bought a gun and have learned to shoot it the past couple of weeks.

Could you imagine Arthur Blank giving some crony a job as quarterback of the Falcons, for an entitlement or a backdoor compromise? Resumes mean something in the rest of the world; it just happens most of the right doesn’t have resumes, that is why they are in the right, couldn’t make it in the other party. This is like a banana republic; it is like the country sections off the nuts, the crooks, and the uneducated, sends them south. Use to be California had a lot of the loose marbles but they are now prospering under Brown. If Georgia is a show case for the right what could possibly be anyone’s motivation to be red.

…because this approach has worked so well in freedom loving nations like Afghanistan and Somalia.
The trendlines are pretty clear–rational Americans who do not keep a handgun in the home (and reasonable Americans who do, but who don’t see it as some absolute unfettered right) will so outnumber the gun-tards that we will have rational regs on ownership. It might not happen during this President’s second term, but it will happen.

meh, in the case of Chip, it’s more like some team taking on the contract of a crappy, past-his-prime guy who you don’t really intend to play, in a trade deal that includes something better.
Problem is, in this case the “something better” is “we don’t sell your operation for scrap, this year.” Which is what right wingers have been known to try to do.

The real problem of guns in homes with kids is failing to teach them respect. We always had guns in the house and were taught early that they were dangerous and not toys, and never ever to point a gun at anyone. How hard is that?

You confuse whiter with more responsible, truthful, honest government…… something that Bozo and his gang have fallen way short in providing. We’re sick of his lies. “No increase in taxes for those who make 250K or less”. Looked at your most recent paycheck lately? “This health care plan will lower health care costs and you can keep your own insurance plan and your doctor”. “This health care plan will only cost the American taxpayer 940B dollars”. All lies. Blatant, purposeful lies designed to raise govt revenues without cutting spending.

We’ve been subsidizing black America to the tune of hundreds of billions of dollars/yr since 1964. We have more of the black community on public assistance than at any time in our history. At lease corporate America produces jobs for those who choose to work, provides retirement programs for long term employees, up to now, has provided health care benefits for their workers and some sense of responsibility for those who choose to work. You compare apples and bananas, my friend.

The politicians on both side know what cuts really would improve out spending to GDP ratio and allow us to improve the debt imbalance. The problem is those cuts are unpopular and their power would be at risk for voting for such measures, or even publicly suggesting them. They want to force the “other side” to propose those cuts.

He thinks not extending a tax benefit is same as raising a tax. It’s not important that those folks pay more today than in December, it’s only important that it is successfully spun as an expiration as opposed to additional tax..
