In 2006, researchers at Knox College in Illinois performed a study on college men ages 18 to 22. Here’s how the study abstract reads:
“We tested whether interacting with a gun increased testosterone levels and later aggressive behavior. Thirty male college students provided a saliva sample (for testosterone assay), interacted with either a gun or a children’s toy for 15 min, and then provided another saliva sample. Next, subjects added as much hot sauce as they wanted to a cup of water they believed another subject would have to drink. Males who interacted with the gun showed significantly greater increases in testosterone and added more hot sauce to the water than did those who interacted with the children’s toy.”
The men were told that they were being studied to determine whether paying close attention to a task altered their later sensitivity to taste. They were tested for initial testosterone levels, and half were then asked to dismantle and reassemble the old “Mousetrap” game, writing a set of instructions on how to do so.

Desert Eagle handgun
The other half were asked to do the same with a pellet pistol, an exact replica in size and weight of a Desert Eagle handgun. Finally, after being tested again for testosterone, they were given a glass of water and bottle of hot sauce and asked to prepare a “sample” for the next study subject.
According to a description of the study at WebMD:
This hot-sauce trick has been used before. The more aggressive a man is feeling, the more hot sauce he tends to put in the next guy’s drink.
Sure enough, testosterone went up about 100 times more in the men who handled the gun than in the men who handled the children’s toy. And the gun handlers put three times more hot sauce in the water — on average, about a half ounce — than the toy handlers.
The more a man’s testosterone went up after gun handling, the more hot sauce he put in the water.
And since a story like this just wouldn’t be the same without a chart:

Make of it what you will. I report; you decide. But as we’ve seen, the good people at Bushmaster have already made their decision:

Pogo is right about one thing. Liberals get upset about fairly responsible middle class white guys having guns, but they aren’t the ones using their guns to kill and mame daily. I watch channel 2, 5, and 11 news almost everyday and when they show a gun crime and the suspect, it’s usually not middle class white guys from the burbs. Just being honest about what I see.
We have some very serious inner city crime problems we need to address, but it seems we are too scared to mention it, lest we be labeled racist. Come on folks, the real gun problem is in the black community. And we all know it.

This is all quite confusing to me. I have watched John Wayne dispatch many Japanese soldiers in WWII and I drive a Toyota. I have watched hours of Road Runner cartoons and have never purchased an anvil from the Acme Corp. My only homicidal tendencies are directed toward the woman who does the commercials for Regressive Auto Insurance who has a voice, personality, and mannerisms who makes me want to burn ever bed on earth. So far all I have learned from this blog is who would be dumb enough to use WebMD.

its pretty funny seeing anti-gun fanatics making up silly stories about gunowners trying to compensate for some penile shortcoming when the largest market for guns these days are women. Do they really believe that a woman arming herself because she is being stalked, or is home alone like the recent case, that she is trying to compensate for a lack of some sexual inadequacy. They are really sick if they believe that.

Using stats from the Brady Campaign (not even close to non-partisan)
Murders/deaths/suicide/accident/etc by gun TOTAL = 31,593
(includes a SIGNIFICANT number of people who shot themselves) non-partisan stats show the number nearer 10,500
Survivors = wounded by gun TOTAL= 66,769
Includes those deliberately shot by police
Number of deaths by automobile in 2009 total = 35,900
Number of people PERMANENTLY injured in car collisions in 2009 =2,219,000 (that’s 2 MILLION!)
Federal stats available by google-ing
Seems like we have a worse automobile problem than a gun problem. Maybe we need to be restricting the size of car’s gas tanks and putting a governor on EVERY car???
Really guys, get some perspective. The problem is we’re bringing a gun to a mental-health and crime fight.
For a two member family, we have 6 firearms and the rounds go where I aim them. I would dearly love to take my wife to downtown Atlanta to see the Fox and the small theaters and restaurants and stay till the wee hours, but the only way I would even consider going down there is armed to the teeth, and I’m not willing to do that. It’s not safe down there, and i have no interest in putting myself into a dangerous situation when I can stay home and watch HBO safely, and that’s the REAL crime here!
1) People wouldn’t go armed to the teeth if they felt safe, but everyone knows the judicial branch has put a revolving door on the jail for violent criminals and threw away the key for drug users. The cops can’t protect the average citizen.
Until this gets fixed people will continue to buy guns.

Doesn’t bother me either. If any given individual’s paranoia is driving them to purchase weapons at a higher price because they think it will be banned that is their choice.
If someone is running out to purchase “firearms” that could be listed as an “assault” weapon, I could actually see that logic, even though I doubt they will be banned.
If one is rushing to the store to purchase hand guns because they think they are about to be banned, their choice, but they are willfully ignorant of the facts. And yes the marketing campaign by the NRA is working as planned.

Jay, They buying frenzy is not inspired by the NRA. It is inspired by the President and the gun grabbers that are posting voraciously here all day long.
Bullcrap. The buying frenzy started in 2008 and only left the conscious mind because of other media driven stories like the debt limit crap, healthcare crap, and other stuff since then. There was no “gun” agenda in 2008, and they were selling out just as much then as they are now. The NRA drives the sales to feed their industry sponsors. Ain’t nobody taking no guns, banning any guns, or doing much of anything else about legislation. Congress can’t even do simple disaster relief legislation so how in the hell are they going to pass something as sweeping as gun legislation?

From Businessinsider.com:
“In its early days, the National Rifle Association was a grassroots social club that prided itself on independence from corporate influence.
While that is still part of the organization’s core function, today less than half of the NRA’s revenues come from program fees and membership dues.
The bulk of the group’s money now comes in the form of contributions, grants, royalty income, and advertising, much of it originating from gun industry sources.
Since 2005, the gun industry and its corporate allies have given between $20 million and $52.6 million to it through the NRA Ring of Freedom sponsor program. Donors include firearm companies like Midway USA, Springfield Armory Inc, Pierce Bullet Seal Target Systems, and Beretta USA Corporation. Other supporters from the gun industry include Cabala’s, Sturm Rugar & Co, and Smith & Wesson.
The NRA also made $20.9 million — about 10 percent of its revenue — from selling advertising to industry companies marketing products in its many publications in 2010, according to the IRS Form 990.
Additionally, some companies donate portions of sales directly to the NRA. Crimson Trace, which makes laser sights, donates 10 percent of each sale to the NRA. Taurus buys an NRA membership for everyone who buys one of their guns. Sturm Rugar gives $1 to the NRA for each gun sold, which amounts to millions. The NRA’s revenues are intrinsically linked to the success of the gun business.
The NRA Foundation also collects hundreds of thousands of dollars from the industry, which it then gives to local-level organizations for training and equipment purchases.

If that wasn’t President Obama talking about an assault weapon (sic) ban the other night on the TV, was it just the imagination of “gun nuts”?

Actually, Jammie, the Mittster had a pretty good chance.
Stupid with a capital S.
That weakling never had a chance. The day he was nominated I said he was going to get crushed. And I was damn near prescient with my prediction that he would not get 200 EC votes.
A pathetic party deserves a pathetic candidate and that is what you got, Aesop Andy…
You moochers got crushed. Get used to it, there are even worse days ahead for you losers…

Jay, The NRA does not manufacture or sell guns. They may be likened to an industry trade group, but so what? There are a lot of similar organizations in this society.

Someone doesn’t have to directly sell something to “sell” a product or service or encourage people to purchase.
Many lobbyist don’t actually sell the actual product or service they are pushing but they do receive funds to push certain legislation or work to stymie legislation…………. Heck many do not even work directly for the companies they are advocating for. They work for various trade groups, etc
You damn well know that. But you can pretend that you don’t all you like.

It appears many of the bloggers here want to pick a fight. Just thinking about guns and they think they are men. In the 21st century men will have to take responsibiliy for their actions, including their anonymous words. The name calling and immaturity here is a good indication of why guns in their hands are dangerous. They forget where they are and have to be arrested at the airport. They fail to lock them up and their kids accidentally kill themselves or take the Bushmaster down to the local school and shoot it up. Every gun in the U.S. was initially in the hands of a person stated to be responsible and, when it is used in a crime – that responsible person is responsible. Get over it. Grow up. Testosterone is high in 12 year olds but they are not men.
