The National Rifle Association is not exactly renowned for its subtlety and sense of decorum. It does not persuade; it bullies. It does not discuss; it shouts. And decades of exposure to its own shouting have left it tone-deaf.
The NRA’s newest ad continues in the long tradition.
As the NRA apparently sees it, it is hypocritical and elitist for the president to protect his two daughters against kidnap efforts or physical attack by enemies foreign or domestic unless every other child in America also gets his or her own personal Secret Service detail.

Of course I know about Germany.
And, I know, for many years now, they’ve had much tougher gun laws and much less gun violence than us.
No comments about Canada, Japan, France and Britan?
As for history going back more than 60 years, your point?
After all, we once had to use horses for transportation. Should we keep a large number of horses in case the Govt. outlaws cars?

Thanks for the compliment, but I can see where Hillbilly D got tired of this blog. It used to be funny and entertaining to think that some people were really scared little sh*ts by the stuff they post here, but now I find it sad tht somebody has to go through life thinking the world is out to get them.
I just keep the old saying in mind that when you lie down with dogs, you get up with fleas. Right now, my life doesn’t need any of the imagined drama of some of the more inventive minds here. There’s enough stress and reality on a daily basis that I have to deal with while not having to deal with some imaginary crap.
I’ll give it some thought though, but it’s not fun anymore.

It’s not my Doctors damn business if I have a gun or not and I have told any that have asked me the question just that: It’s none of your GD business. And they better NOT deny medical care for refusing to answer.
Settle down, Fred. Read it again. It clarifies that the GOVERNMENT does not forbid doctors from asking such questions. Do you oppose that? Do you think that government SHOULD forbid doctors from asking?

Looking at the photos of the folks attending Tea Party rallies, I don’t think there’s much chance of them putting out any kind of extended or sustained resistance. I am not a member of the NRA but I am a law abiding gun owner who is tired of having a socialist president who wants to criminalize me for having a weapon that holds 12 rounds instead of 10. We are on the brink of fiscal disaster due to the spending of liberal and GOP lawmakers. We should be focusing on the economy instead of guns. People have been killing people since the times of Adam and Eve and that is never going to change. By outlawing any weapon, you are just opening up another black market for them just like drugs. Criminals are criminals because they do not care what laws they break and by enacting a weapons ban, does anyone really think they are going to be turning their ILLEGAL weapons in. This weapons ban is being presented by a President who gave authority to sell guns the Mexican Drug Cartels which have been used to kill more people in a day than any tragedy that has happened in the last year. So to Congress how about using your time to be productive and figure out how to put people back to work instead of infringing on my rights as a responsible gun owner.

Wow, speaking of jackasses, they are out in full force on both sides today.
All this fighting about the second amendment and new gun restrictions is a complete farce. As a lifelong responsible gun owner, I am perfectly ok with making it harder for the average joe to purchase a firearm. I personally believe before you can buy an AR you should have to take it completely apart and put it together before leaving the store. Or go the Canada route and have two people vouch for you. These ideas can easily exist without infringing on the second amendment.
As to the lefties who think gun free is the way to go, yeah, that would be a wonderful idea if there weren’t already 300 million guns in the country… If you want to see how well it works to take guns away from law abiding citizens with no way to disarm criminals, see DC in the 1990’s. Or the report published today in England that gun crimes have risen EVERY SINGLE YEAR since they outlawed firearms. Fact is, we can make some changes to the process, but stricter gun laws almost NEVER serve their intended purpose.

As a conservative, I find nothing in the President’s proposals today about which to get overwrought. A President Romney would have done the same thing in the wake of the Newtown carnage. Assault weapons and crazy magazines are just not defensible anymore. What the President and his party refuses to address is the continuing culture of violence in the underclass, not exclusively but extensively within the black culture. I don’t believe Mr Bookman reads the local news section of his own paper. Today, we learn that one of the young thugs involved in the cold-blooded murder of an East Atlanta bartender was already back out on the street. Where he was promptly shot multiple times. President Obama’s political home town of Chicago is a killing field. Why doesn’t the President, with 95% support in the black community, use his pulpit to convene some kind of disarmament summit. More people died day to day in random gun violence and the new raft of laws will not do much to halt that.

Law enforcement around the country WANTS to take assault weapons off the streets, because they’re tired of the criminals having access to better and more powerful weapons than the average police officer.
Criminals don’t generally have access to better and more powerful weapons than the police. It has happened but things have changed since homeland security funds have flooded police agencies. Them boys got some serious toys in the back of that cruiser.
And how about military Generals like McChrystal and Powell, both of whom are on record stating that they see no reason for civilians to have military-grade weapons that are designed purely to kill and maim?
Only with a special permit can civilians possess military-grade weapons, and then it is limited to full auto small arms.
Are they tools of the leftist dictator, too, or is it possible that you’re nothing more than a paranoid buffoon who needs a big gun to compensate for his small d!ck?

The NRA is as usual reflecting what many have been saying for several weeks. And you know argument is not that every child should have his own personal secret service detail. The school the Obama children (and the children of many administration and media employees) attend has armed guards separate from the Obama’s special watchers. Obama and his followers seem to think that the lives of other children are not as precious as those of their own kids. And in the matter of safety, Obama does not appear to have much zeal for remedying inequality.

I miss the days when politicians from both parties actually tried to implement good policy (what is effective and will make a difference) instead of simply trying to bash the other party into submission. Better enforcement, secure schools, a uniform check system, no registration, and including dangerously ill people would have a lot of support. NRA wants little of that, and our NY and liberal gun-haters are in a cultural war against guns and those who like them. Sad

““As you’ve said, you’re one who wants to impose his religious views on others.”
No, Paul. I am mainly concerned that people who call themselves “Christians” bear at least some proximation to that profession – in life and doctrine.”
Oh, I see now!! You’re an enforcer!!!! One whose life and spirituality is soooo developed you get to judge if others are good enough!!
Mighty Christian of you, Christian –
But, you began the engagement today so I’m willing to let it be.
BTW… good to know you don’t want to impose your religious views on others. No more comments from you opposing gay marriage ’cause it ain’t in the Bible will be a welcome relief.

Shine — “I voted for Obama and the NRA video is correct…if its good enough for his kids its good enough for mine.”
Good. Now all you have to do is convince Congress that they should extend Secret Service protection to your kids, just like they decided to do with Presidents’ children in Title 18 of the Code of Federal Regulations.

Certainly, it is much lower than ours. But that doesn’t change the fact that it’s gotten higher every year since private citizens were banned from owning firearms.
Last I checked the UK’s was 1.2 per 100,000, vs. 4.8 for the US.
I have no idea what study you’re talking about, by the way, but my first reaction is “correlation doesn’t equal causation.” There’ve been a lot of things going on in England (and in Europe) in the past few years, austerity budgets being among them.

I’m going to enjoy election night watching as the “experts” attempt to explain just how Governor Romney was able to win the election. I’m sure there will be film coverage of a defeated Hussein and his enraged wife who will no longer be able to say that she is proud of her country.
There will be many reports of blogger suicides . . .

I’m getting a good laugh out of this whole white house press conference today. Oblama actually done nothing… I guess wasting a few hundred million more dollars perhaps. What he put forth will do nothing and Congress will not pass any sort of gun or magazine ban that the far left fruits want….

MeetInTheMiddle: “As to the lefties who think gun free is the way to go…”
You know what does being “lefty” have to do with this issue?
It’s as though by the very act of espousing laws to curtail gun access you are “left wing”, as though the issue really has anything to do with left or right per se.
And that right there shows you just how far our political discourse has swung to the right, with large parts of our political discussion overtaken by a simplistic left-right, conservative-liberal duality and the greater force always moving sharply rightward.

Christian Conservative… it’s not that you don’t have a place in the dialogue, it is that you come across as incredibly abrasive and rude. While that trait is also shared by your counterparts on the left, you might be better served by trying to temper your message a little bit and realize that you are coming across as holier-than-thou while regurgitating talking points that immediately shuts off the other side from wanting to discuss things with you in a civil manner.
