The National Rifle Association is not exactly renowned for its subtlety and sense of decorum. It does not persuade; it bullies. It does not discuss; it shouts. And decades of exposure to its own shouting have left it tone-deaf.
The NRA’s newest ad continues in the long tradition.
As the NRA apparently sees it, it is hypocritical and elitist for the president to protect his two daughters against kidnap efforts or physical attack by enemies foreign or domestic unless every other child in America also gets his or her own personal Secret Service detail.

Jay,Saul Alinsky would be proud of how you,Obama and Hillary Clinton use the methods he describes in his book “Rules for Radicals”.
Old Saul preached that if you can’t win over your enemy into believing your way is the only way you’re then allowed to use any method government chooses.

Fred, have to disagree with you on the CDC. There are a lot of mental health and gun related issues that the CDC and others can help, especially at identifying the warning signs and signals to look for that someone may be considering just being a “2d amendment fanatic/extremist” to a active mass-killer.
+++++++++++++++++++
Bullsht Keep. The CDC is for INFECTIOUS diseases. They are microbiologists who work on Ebola not nutcases lunatics.
Do you know any DOctors, or scientists that work there/ They don’t have enough money to do what they are SUPPOSED to be doing without tossing a bunch of political crap in there to go along with it.
This all started a few years ago when one of the directors was a power hungry political activist (and a piss porr scientist BTW) and director her people to write a report declaring that gun violence was an EPIDEMIC and thus should be solved by the CDC.
Just damn. Stick with curing the common cold and leave the political ramifications of the 2nd amendment to politicians. Medicine should NOT be involved in politics. Nor science. When you start skewing results to meet a political agenda the work is garbage. PERIOD.

Ron Schmeits was interviewed on the News Hour on PBS last night. He was in Judy Woodruff’s face with counter statistics and dominating retorts that keep a polite soft spoken Woodruff spinning to keep up with the loose information Schmeits was given up as fact. Style over substance very similar to the show put on in the first debate of Romney with Obama. You can’t get around the bullhorn, in your face misrepresentations that in itself is too unnerving to have a factual conversation. Newt Gingrich may have invented this thuggery they call debating. He certainly is the father of shutting down government as a viable way to distort what his confederates want from its captures. As Speaker of the House, Newt almost cased the joint called government with a criminal mind found its supportive weaknesses and planned accordingly during the first week of Obama’s first term how to destroy him. Gun rights, budgets, healthcare means nothing to this crowd, it is the power and the money these people obtain in the shadows that stir the motivation.
I think of Harry Truman after being president of the US going home to a middle class life of normality and then watch Newt who has never won a real election, geramanded what little he did get, as many in the Tea Party have, living large and for what. He destroys this country to the pleasure of the right and this country’s enemies and gets paid handsomely for it.

About those supercalfragilistic Executive Orders that have all them sheriffs in West Bumphux all hoppin’ mad…
In addition to the legislative efforts, White House officials stressed the actions that Mr. Obama is prepared to take on his own. In recent days, gun rights advocates have accused the president of a power grab, saying they feared he would exceed his executive authority in an attempt to take their guns away.
In fact, the list of executive actions is relatively modest, with most of the steps involving the president directing agencies to do a better job of sharing information.
Among the executive actions: to “launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign”; to “review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes”; and to “direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies.”
The president also promises to “launch a national dialogue” on mental health led by Kathleen Sebelius, the secretary of health and human services, and Arne Duncan, the education secretary.
Mr. Obama also was overturning a 15-year-old ban on the Centers for Disease Control conducting research on gun violence. Officials said they reviewed the law and determined it only banned research intended to promote gun control, so they argued renewing fact-based research would not qualify.

The Belize-born MC—who was deported out of the United States after being released from prison in 2009 following a nine year sentence for his part in the 1999 Club New York shooting—has been trying to get back to the States with no success.
Shyne needs to worry about Shyne first. Second, he needs to realize that Obama is President of the United States and not the Mayor of Chicago. What can Obama do that can not be done by a local politician? Why would the president have to get personally involved in local politics in Chicago? The best thing Obama can do is fulfill the duties of his office. The people of Chicago have plenty of local and state politicians to get involved with things as to need the president’s assistance.
That’s just my $.02 anyway. Chicago has to clean up its own mess just like any other city does. They don’t get a pass just because Obama considers it his hometown.

Jay- The armed security people at Sidwell Friends have nothing to do with the Secret Service (they’ve been there for a long time). NRA’s point is that this is a rich school protecting celebrity / politicians’ kids, while Obama and other celebrities (who have their own armed security teams) scoff at protecting average Joe’s kids. I don’t feel great about bringing any President’s kids into it, but it is hypocritical to parade out kids for political purposes and not have the incongruity pointed out

Here is a list provided by the White House of the 23 executive actions President Obama plans to take to reduce gun violence in the wake of the Newtown, Conn., massacre:
1. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal agencies to make relevant data available to the federal background check system.
2. Address unnecessary legal barriers, particularly relating to the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act, that may prevent states from making information available to the background check system.
3. Improve incentives for states to share information with the background check system.
4. Direct the Attorney General to review categories of individuals prohibited from having a gun to make sure dangerous people are not slipping through the cracks.
5. Propose rulemaking to give law enforcement the ability to run a full background check on an individual before returning a seized gun.
6. Publish a letter from ATF to federally licensed gun dealers providing guidance on how to run background checks for private sellers.
7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
8. Review safety standards for gun locks and gun safes (Consumer Product Safety Commission).
9. Issue a Presidential Memorandum to require federal law enforcement to trace guns recovered in criminal investigations.
10. Release a DOJ report analyzing information on lost and stolen guns and make it widely available to law enforcement.
11. Nominate an ATF director.
12. Provide law enforcement, first responders, and school officials with proper training for active shooter situations.
13. Maximize enforcement efforts to prevent gun violence and prosecute gun crime.
14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
15. Direct the Attorney General to issue a report on the availability and most effective use of new gun safety technologies and challenge the private sector to develop innovative technologies.
16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
17. Release a letter to health care providers clarifying that no federal law prohibits them from reporting threats of violence to law enforcement authorities.
18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
19. Develop model emergency response plans for schools, houses of worship and institutions of higher education.
20. Release a letter to state health officials clarifying the scope of mental health services that Medicaid plans must cover.
21. Finalize regulations clarifying essential health benefits and parity requirements within ACA exchanges.
22. Commit to finalizing mental health parity regulations.
23. Launch a national dialogue led by Secretaries Sebelius and Duncan on mental health.

Kinda sad, isn’t it, that they’re so predictable that whatever the NRA tosses out they swallow and defend? Wonder what would’ve happened if they’d thought that ad was from George Soros?
I trust you’re feeling better and recovering well. Just a selfish request – stay around. You are one I learn from.

But hey, if it works for ya’, fine with me.
See, I have this ‘live and let live’ attitude. As long as people aren’t hurting others, I pretty much say ‘doesn’t affect my world. No need to try to control others.”
You should try it sometime.

Regarding Three of Obama’s Executive Orders:
#7. Launch a national safe and responsible gun ownership campaign.
Will gun safety be taught in schools? (Note to libs. – we teach everything else including safe sex and how to cross the street safely).
18. Provide incentives for schools to hire school resource officers.
WELL, WELL : What have we here? Obama advocating armed guards in schools ? What are you libs. going to do about this one ?
#16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
Hummmm …………. are doctors to also ask about alcohol in the home that teenagers can get to; covers on swimming pools, safety devices in wall sockets and stair gates regarding young children, etc., etc., etc., etc. ??

The goal is to stop one child from being slaughtered at school.
The AR ban will fail in congress and that will be the end of that story.
The universal back ground check will pass and that is it.
It turns out the cons are drama queens.

Yes, the cons fired cops all across the country in the name of “deficit reduction”.
Now they want to either hire 100,000 cops or take 1 out of every 7 existing cops and put them in schools.
Republicans CANNOT govern.

Please let that youngster know that you can hardly turn around at a CDC campus without encountering an M.D. They’re everywhere—in offices, in cubicles, you name it. Only a truly ignorant person would assert that there are few MDs or scientists at CDC.
++++++++++++++++++++
What the hell are you talking about? Reading comprehension is your friend. Asking someone if they know any Doctors or scientists that work there means does he PERSONALLY KNOW any, not that there aren’t any. It’s like asking someone if they know a cop that works at the Tucker Precinct.
Just damn.
And for your info, I know more PhD’s, scientists, and MD’s from the CDC than you could shake a stick at. My daughter went to daycare at the Clifton School. I can hardly pee off my property without whizzing on someone from there. Both here AND at my old house in Gwinnett.

Art Vandelay. You are making assumptions on facts not in evidence. First of all your reference that the government can do whatever it pleases anytime it wants to is total BS. Tell that to the North Koreans, the Vietnamese, the Afghans. Tell that to the many terrorist organizations out there that are attempting to kill anything not of the Muslim faith. If the US government so damn smart then why did it take inside information before Bin Laden was finally take out. If the government is so smart then why are there thousands of unsolved murder’s and millions of other unsolved crimes? The next point you seem to miss. If the government were to become tyrannical ie Nazi Germany, USSR, North Korea, Cuba and many other countries,. What makes you think that the entire government would back a government like that? Some of those, I suspect a lot of those military and civil defenders of our way of life would choose to fight against such a government. I mean how did the military/government help the Egyptian president. How did the military/government help the Libyan president? Pray tell, how do you think the Syrian president will benefit from his government. He like the rest of them will fall by the way side just like the government of this country will do if it gets to big for it’s pants. Hopefully it will never come to that. Don’t think I’ll be around to see it if it does.

Youu pretty are showing your lack of intelligence. First, the primary mission of the Secret Service is not to protect the president and their family. For all you know it alls – the primary mission of the Secret Service is to prevent and stop counterfeiting.
Second, the role of protecting the preseident was a law passede by your congress. It was something that never was mandated by the president.
And for all you so called history buffs – the role of protecting the president began after 4 assasination attempts on President Lincoln and there wasn’t a Secret Service back then. It was Allan Pinkerton founded of Pinkerton Security that was given that mission

The funny part of this whole discussion is that there is not going to be anything done. Harry Reid said yesterday that he did not have the votes in the Senate to pass an assault weapons ban. The Dem Senator of WV and ND will not vote for any weapons bans and they both have said so.
Here is a list of the Dem Senators up for re election in 2014 in red states. Can you name which of these Senators will vote for a gun ban?
Mark Begich of Alaska, Max Baucus of Montana, Kay Hagan of North Carolina, Tim Johnson of South Dakota, Mary Landrieu of Louisiana and Mark Pryor of Arkansas.

I don’t feel great about bringing any President’s kids into it, but it is hypocritical to parade out kids for political purposes and not have the incongruity pointed out
Some kids are more important than other kids.

Hypocrite at its worst=liberals
Want to protect human lives when it comes to guns but fails to see the irony that they oppose the protection of the most innocent in our society from being dismembered and thrown into trash cans…the unborn children of our society cry out for a remedy to their murder but we worry less about them.
Funnyif those children were killed by a gunman when they were still in their mother;s womb we would be outraged. And yet…we let so called doctors kill them “legally”. What a sick and cruel joke.
Where is the outrage for them.
55,000,000 and counting….when will it end? When will skull crushing and dismemberment of an innocent child stop? Sadly, when you have the defender of the heinous crime of abortion in the White House what we expect is for it to never end…and yet he weeps for the children in Conn. not even realizing that both are equally tragic and part of the Culture of Death that he enables.
Hypocracy and irony….sad

Granny Godzilla: Thanks for the list. I TOTALLY disagree with the following on that list:
14. Issue a Presidential Memorandum directing the Centers for Disease Control to research the causes and prevention of gun violence.
I’ve already posted my objections to this.
16. Clarify that the Affordable Care Act does not prohibit doctors asking their patients about guns in their homes.
It’s not my Doctors damn business if I have a gun or not and I have told any that have asked me the question just that: It’s none of your GD business. And they better NOT deny medical care for refusing to answer.

…their murder…
“Murder” has a legal definition.
Abortion is a legal procedure so therefore it cannot – by definition – be “murder.”
I can understand and respect your feelings about abortion, but you don’t get to make up definitions of words that already exist.

Will gun safety be taught in schools?
Why not? If a community thinks it’d be a worthwhile elective to offer, I’m fine with that. If resources from the Feds can make this easier at a local level, all the better.
I’ve snipped the rest of your post, because I don’t thin you’re half as naive as you claim to be about stuff like resource officers and the kind of stuff doctors might ask their patients.

“See, I have this ‘live and let live’ attitude. As long as people aren’t hurting others, I pretty much say ‘doesn’t affect my world.”
And Jesus did not. You should try it sometime (if you really are a Christian and not a poseur).
“No need to try to control others.”
Talking with others, debating them sometimes and sharing what the Bible says on issues is tantamount to controlling them? If you were a professed atheist rather than a professed Christian, I wouldn’t have spent one second debating about the apostle Paul. There would have been no point.
“Watch your life and doctrine closely. Persevere in them, because if you do, you will save both yourself and your hearers.” (1 Timothy 4:16)

Thulsa,
You couldn’t be more incorrect about efficacy of various forms of perimeter security. RB Tec is one of many companies in the business. All this talk about guns relative to exposure to our kids misses the mark by a mile. We have 310,000,000 guns in the country…it’s not practical or probable that any meaningful attempt at further control will protect kids in our schools…The threat of breach is what needs to be addressed..

The ad makes complete sense to me. What is it about the liberal mind that rejects logic? It’s a shame that children need protection, but they do and it’s not just the President’s children but all children. The truth is that most normal people are defenseless and they need protection from the crazies and the criminals in this world. Take away guns and they would use clubs or knives or poison or run over people with automobiles. In fact, more people are killed by drunk drivers than by guns so why aren’t the liberals demanding that we ban or restrict automobiles instead of making it easier to get a drivers license to accomodate illegal aliens. It is now more difficult to attain a a gun permit than it is to get a drivers license in many states. The problem is mental illness and criminals. The political answer is to call it “gun violence” and to ban or to control guns, which does not address the problem..It’s an illusion that this will make us safer, when in fact, it will make us less safe. Tougher law enforcement, harsher pentalties for violent crimes and increased awareness and treatment of mental health – There’s your answer!
