The ever-subtle geniuses at the NRA strike again

The National Rifle Association is not exactly renowned for its subtlety and sense of decorum. It does not persuade; it bullies. It does not discuss; it shouts. And decades of exposure to its own shouting have left it tone-deaf.

The NRA’s newest ad continues in the long tradition.

As the NRA apparently sees it, it is hypocritical and elitist for the president to protect his two daughters against kidnap efforts or physical attack by enemies foreign or domestic unless every other child in America also gets his or her own personal Secret Service detail.

Eventually we will have tough gun laws in this country with real teeth. The violence wont stop but it will be reduced dramatically.

Its just a matter of how long the Republican hillbillies, low education voter types, who are easily fooled by the NRA ( Gun Industry ) can drag their heels.

yep, Chicago is a perfect example isnt it? LMAO

Yeah, the Democrats won the election and took over the government as per their constitutional right. Go shake in your boots at the prospect. Keep the curtains drawn. Only come out at night, well armed and and sneak down to Publixs for some more ice cream.

Recon — “JHM, Barton committed those murders at the day trading firms of Momentum Securities and at the All-Tech investment group.”

And he walked INTO the bank, most likely looking for more victims. I suppose you think he looked in, saw everyone conducting their business calmly and just figured he’d look elsewhere for vics?

The only thing keeping him from shooting bank employees or customers in there was the fact that EVERY ONE OF THEM — armed guards included — had taken shelter and had hidden themselves from sight (at least from anyone looking in through the door).

All the gun control in the world is not going to stop crazy people from killing. These rules won’t stop the killing, just lower the number killed. Every one of these high profile shootings was done by someone who had known mental problems. The whole damn country is barking up the wrong tree.

Last night I was thinking about “Christians” and guns, trying hard to fathom the reasoning as to why a follower of Christ, the most peace loving man ever, would even want to consider owning weapons….and I got a headache…but then…

It came to my mind that the story of Jesus would make a great sci fi flick. You know the one about an advanced civilization sending a liaison to earth to try to help its people understand the true nature of life. How, with one helping another, problems can be easier solved, and with the acceptance of others beliefs and tolerance for other societies, great advances could be made for all. But the natives are restless and fearful and those in power see the danger to that power if the visitor is allowed to continue. So he is arrested on trumped up charges and condemned to death. After they supposedly killed him and his body is locked up in the morgue, the visitor is really back on the mothership having a three day conference deciding if earth should be called a bad cause and destroyed. In the end the visitor ends the conference by saying “leave them to there own devices, they aren’t worth the bomb.”
In the end scene the earth leaders want to get the body for display, open the morgue just in time to see the visitor transport back to his ship. Thus doubt is born and word gets out…could he have been God?…and a religion is born.

THAT I could believe!

Well, I don’t see what Bookman’s got a chigger in his shorts about. Every word in that NRA ad is true. Obama’s kids do get armed guards. Course, I reckon the fact he’s President of the U.S. of A. might have a little to do with that.

Anyhow, I got a idea for keeping our kids safe from murderers without passing all these laws that restrict our Right to Bare Arms. Why not just let the kids carry little guns to school? I bet a nut would think twice about busting into a classroom with a weapon if about 25 kids had guns to point back at him—35 kids if it’s a GA classroom. And the best part is, we wouldn’t have all these school fights on the playground. And the teachers would be very, very, very nice to their students.

Anyhow, it’s about chow time so I thought I’d throw in this idea for y’all to chew on while you’re filling your belly.

Have a good p.m. everybody.

Everyone agrees that the President and his children deserve protection. Even the NRA.

The point of the ad is that President Obama is doing nothing to protect OUR children.

Not one measure taken by NY State yesterday or in Obama’s planned actions, would have prevented any of the *mass* shootings that have happened in the last year or more. Nothing.

Liberals would NEVER come out against the 4th Amendment, which was the vehicle for Roe v. Wade. Yet you are willing to come out against the 2d Amendment, which is supported by even greater volumes of state and Federal law.

Here’s a topic for a future article: Given the proposed mandatory reporting requirements for mental health professionals (that they identify *potentially dangerous* people) how many people who need mental health will avoid it? I wonder how that math works out. Isn’t this an even uglier violation of our 4th amendment rights to privacy.

This current round of gun control is all about the NRA and gun lobbies working against obama/biden in 2008&2012. Google NRA + Biden and see how long the ugliness has gone on.

Once again, Bookman throws out the chum and his little sharks come to feed on his favorite meal, left wing pablum. After reading most of the posts by the usual suspects, you have to shake your head as to their naive view of the world. I love some of the comments from this collective bunch of elitist pontificators…”The NRA? F-ck those guys”. And, “I’m with stands@9:34″. Emotional rot from zealous kooks belonging to the Bookman Club of Progressives.

The NRA ad is a parodied zinger that gets your attention. It hits at the mentality of your “middle class” voter; A trojan horse that you free thinkers don’t like.

The NRA just happens to be pragmatic and a stalward against your form of intrusive liberal government. We have the freedom to own guns. In the same breath, you have the election to cower without guns. In the world in which we now live in I feel safer with my concealed permit rather than in the world of your “gun free zones”. Your gun free schools will only get more kids killed. Bullied geeks, Goth drop-outs, and zany/brainy intellectual freaks will brush right past your gun free school signs to make a lethal statement until you come up with a better way to stop them. Soft targets always suffer the retribution of evil doers. Defense against evil doers deters their attack.

I’m on the same side as you, so please don’t freak out when I say this.

Those hi-cap mags are HEAVY AS ALL HELL when they are loaded, and since they’re made by after-market manufacturers (AFAIK no rifle or pistol manufacturers actually makes those mags for their own products), they tend to jam with alarming frequency. I’ve hefted an AR-15 that had a loaded (with dummy rounds) hi-cap mag in it, and it was extremely difficult to hold it in a reasonable firing position.

For those who’ve never seen them they look (at least the ones I’ve seen and handled) like a lower-case b, p or d — the long tail on the letter is the part that slips into the rifle’s receiver. The magazine curls around so that you don’t have a foot-long fragile weight hanging out of your weapon, ready to get knocked out and thereby damage itself and your weapon. At any rate, IMO, they’re a giant hassle.

I don’t hang out much with other gun owners, but just speaking for myself, I don’t know anyone who has or wants one of those hi-cap mags. And I’m not interested in them myself.

Common Sense

January 16th, 2013
12:27 pm

Seems everyone is really missing the point. If you read the AP article about today’s announcement, the focus is on guns. There are one or two sentences about first amendment privileges. The government wants to dictate what can be in games and in movies. I do not disagree that what is in these video games and movies should be scaled back, but that is not the government’s role to do it by simply tightening the reins on our rights. If this country had a belief system as its foundation, wouldn’t that be the funnel in which everything filtered through? If we held true to the values of that belief system, then the games would stop selling and the movies would not be attended and those issues would solve themselves.

Instead we do not want to take any personal responsibility to change our own actions. We would rather point the finger and ask the government to pass a law. We would rather stick our heads in the sand, so that we do not see that our freedom is being limited. Rather than personal responsibility, we want someone else to limit how we should live.

In the meantime, we continue to pass more laws with the audacity to believe that a criminal will all of a sudden obey the law. When the criminal does not obey the law, we reward them with a new cell, cable TV, exercise equipment, etc… Until we start to deter crime with punishment then we cannot expect things to change.

Instead of punishing criminals to deter egregious actions, we are discussing putting armed guards at every school. Really? Think about that. Does an armed guard change the actions of people that want to do wrong? People that choose to do wrong over right. I do not think so. I think it simply pushes them to a different location if it does that.

Look, I’m for gun rights. I’m also for some restrictions. I don’t know why we can’t find somem iddle ground there.

Are the President’s kids more important? No. Are they more at risk? Absolutely. This is idiotic. The nra has become irrelevant but they stay on the forefront through fear mongering. I didn’t vote for Obama, but I really would be happy if he “put the nra down”. I know a president I vote for won’t have the guts.

Sorry Billy, but the nra had to go away to live at a farm. But here is a shiny, new organization to play with… the Interior Department. Oops

Dan — “Are there any mistruths in the ad? President Obama wants more for himself than he is willing to give the rest of us.”

Uh, no. The protective duties of the Secret Service are defined and directed by law, written by Congress and signed by the President.

Here you go. Print this out and carry it with you to the restroom this afternoon.

Bob, if you believe you need to protect your kids with armed guards, you are welcome to send them to private schools to do so. Or you can keep them at home, home school them and stand there with your own guns in your home.

Do you put bullet proof vests on them at the grocery store? Why not? Either you care or you don’t right?

The school that President Obama’s daughters attend already had a 9-person ARMED security fore in place long BEFORE his daughters attended. He picked a school with armed guards for his kids because he wants to protect his children just like I do. However, PUBLIC Schools are GUN-FREE ZONES unlike the school he chose.

And speaking of bullies – it is the President who said on national TV that the first persons he would choose to NOT pay if the debt ceiling were not raised is: Retirees on Social Security – even though they paid into the system for upwards of 50 tears. Now that is a bully-in chief

The problem with laws is this, laws effect those that follow the laws, not those who don’t follow laws. That means, the guys who are going to rob, steal, kill are going to have guns and the people getting robbed, stolen from, and killed won’t have anyway to protect themselves. I’m ok with stricter background checks, I wouldn’t even mind background checking everyone at a residence if someone is buying a gun.

I wouldn’t mind there being armed policeman in the schools, but I don’t want armed administrators or armed civilians. I think that would invite problems, policeman are trained to do what they do.

That ad is one of the most stupid pieces of crap ever recorded. Why pick on the children of the President? There isn’t a single damned reason for that ad. If gun nuts want armed schools, then tax yourselves and pay for them. Or, how about the NRA provide that sh*t for you since they have all this new money and stuff from new members.

A private school is going to provide whatever they need to attract and maintain the students they have. Trying to compare an elite private school to every single general access public school is stupid as hell and only the dumbasses will fall for it. After reading through most of the comments on the first page and a half, it’s safe to say the dumbasses did fall for it.

It’s a simple solution, and one that does not require Congress or Obama to do a damn thing. If you want armed guards in your schools, have your local board raise your taxes to provide for them. Otherwise, quit b*tching about something you want and don’t want to pay for.

Entertaining how Liberals are so against my .22 rifle that is designed to maim then they are against my 30-06 that is designed to kill. But I totally expect that the 30-06 be targeted next since we have super markets and don’t need to hunt any more.

Japan was a heavily militarized country up to and during WWII. After losing the war, guns were outlawed for civilians and only police and military were armed.

Over 65 years later, Japan still only allows the police and military to have guns. And yet, they are a democracy and have not been taken over by tyrants.

Also, Canada, France, Britan and Germany, to name a few, also have far tougher gun laws and enforcement that we do.

I don’t believe any of these countries are under the control of tyrants.

Why would anyone object to armed security officers in our schools? When you go to the bank and see an armed guard, are you afraid or do you feel a little safer because someone is there to protect you? What about the airport, any government building, traffic police…etc. There not only should be armed security in our schools, there should be metal detectors at every entrance and a security system that covers windows that are broken, just like you would have in your home.
It’s silly to think if we just take away all the guns (from law abiding citizens) but do nothing to secure our schools or any other facility, that we will be safe.

The NRA has succeeded in allowing more and more of the paranoid to define American gun ownership.

Hey Kieth, I am NOT a Republican hillbilly, low education voter types, who are easily fooled by the NRA ( Gun Industry ) can drag their heels.

I am a college educated DEMOCRAT Obama voter who knows a sham when I smelll one. 6 children are killed EVERY DAY in this country in Auto Accidents. FOUR of thos SIX are victims of alcohol impaired drivers – NOT guns.

What is he doing parading children up on stage to tout gun control when EVERY FIVE DAYS drunk drivers kill the same number of children that were killed at Sandy Ridge???

Drunk drivers kill SEVENTY-FIVE times MORE kids every year than the mental case in Connecticut did!!! Instead of limiting the number of bullets in a magazine, he needs to limit the number of beers a person can buy at a time and the quantity of alcohol a person can buy at a time in a liquor bottle. And while he’s at it, if we want to keep felons from owning guns, keep them in prison.
