The ever-subtle geniuses at the NRA strike again

The National Rifle Association is not exactly renowned for its subtlety and sense of decorum. It does not persuade; it bullies. It does not discuss; it shouts. And decades of exposure to its own shouting have left it tone-deaf.

The NRA’s newest ad continues in the long tradition.

As the NRA apparently sees it, it is hypocritical and elitist for the president to protect his two daughters against kidnap efforts or physical attack by enemies foreign or domestic unless every other child in America also gets his or her own personal Secret Service detail.

“Personally, I’d vote for an option that you don’t offer: Zero. ”

The problem with your answer, Jay, is you’re assuming all 10 people are polite, “get along”, sort of people. But, if 1 of the 10 is a Jamie Hood sort of individual, does your answer change at all? How about if there were 10, Jamie Hood is one of them, and now there are only 8 of you left? Are you still sticking to your “none” answer?

That ^^^^^^, Jay, is the real world we live in. Bury your head if you want to, but don’t bury everybody else’s head in the process because you’re unwilling to address the facts of the world around you.

The US Supreme Court is Clear in it Ruling ~ 2010 Supreme Court ruling in McDonald v. Chicago. These rulings upheld the individual rights model when interpreting the Second Amendment.

Justice Antonin Scalia, writing for the majority ~ Nowhere else in the Constitution does a “right” attributed to “the people” refer to anything other than an individual right. What is more, in all six other provisions of the Constitution that mention “the people,”[Individual] the term unambiguously refers to all members of the political community, not an unspecified subset. This contrasts markedly with the phrase “the militia” in the prefatory clause. As we will describe below, the “militia” in colonial America consisted of a subset of “the people”[Individual]— those who were male, able bodied, and within a certain age range. Reading the Second Amendment as protecting only the right to “keep and bear Arms” in an organized militia therefore fits poorly with the operative clause’s description of the holder of that right as “the people”[Individual].

Stumbled on this, wanted to share:

http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2013/01/nra-membership-numbers

A source writes in with another strong indication that the NRA’s true size is closer to 3 million. The NRA gives members a free subscription to one of four magazines: American Rifleman, American Hunter, America’s 1st Freedom, or NRA InSights. The first three magazines are audited by the Alliance for Audited Media, which as of July gave them a combined paid circulation (including newsstand sales) of 3.1 million. NRA InSights is an online-only magazine for kids, with a circulation of 25,000. Though some NRA members may opt out of a free magazine, it’s likely that others pay to subscribe to more than one of them. Add in the fact that non-NRA members can pick up the magazines on the newsstand, and the 3.1 million figure is almost certainly an upper-bound for the NRA’s true size.

So, just assume that the size queens at the NRA lie about everything (including its size).

Liberals always want a shield to their dirty work. Today Obummer will be using kids in his speech. It”s the same way with food, fast food is not good for children. It’s a ploy for more government control and less Freedom for the citizens. How long does it take to do your taxes each year? We need less regulation and common sense solutions. It”s not the tool that one uses, it is always how it is used and that person is responsible. Take rope for example; to get an ox out of a ditch or to string someone up.

——————————————————————————–

The Founding Fathers on Arms
“Firearms stand next in importance to the constitution itself. They are the American people’s liberty teeth and keystone under independence … from the hour the Pilgrims landed to the present day, events, occurences and tendencies prove that to ensure peace security and happiness, the rifle and pistol are equally indispensable … the very atmosphere of firearms anywhere restrains evil interference — they deserve a place of honor with all that’s good.”
George Washington
First President of the United States

——————————————————————————–

“The supposed quietude of a good man allures the ruffian; while on the other hand arms, like laws, discourage and keep the invader and plunderer in awe, and preserve order in the world as property. The same balance would be preserved were all the world destitute of arms, for all would be alike; but since some will not, others dare not lay them aside … Horrid mischief would ensue were the law-abiding deprived of the use of them.”

And, of course, his counsel has NOTHING to do with any of the reasons he gives, right? Like the impending persecution of Christians (which would be harder to endure with a spouse and/or children) or the fact that a married person has divided interests (between God and his spouse). And I guess you can only logically conclude that Jesus and Barnabas (and Timothy?) had sexual hangups as well, for they were all single. Of course, they did not live in a society saturated with sexual images and messages (as in sitcoms such as Two and a Half Men or How I Met Your Mother). In YOUR world that may pass as ideal, normal behavior, but in God’s, it is a sign of corruption – because, you know, He and a few others realize that sex is NOT what makes the world “go round”. It’s a thing called love (which doesn’t have to involve sex).

Here’s a tip for you, though, can you think of any democratically elected tyrants through history who maybe didn’t turn out the way the people originally intended? Do a little research, park your “it could never happen here” BS at the curb as history has proven it’s BS, and see if you can answer your own question.

My children mean as much to me as the president’s children do to him. My child being kidnapped or killed does NOT however, put even a hiccup in the running of our government, put the nation in distress, or put a hold on laws or bills requiring signatures from the president. Every one of you knows this to be true. The NRA and its base are using rhetoric to fire up the base, and those followers are eating it up hook, line and sinker. Columbine had an armed police officer, didn’t help. The NRA needs to be stopped from putting fear in the weak minded to protect a gun industry whose only objective is to populate this country with as many bullets and weapons as possible, for the sake of money. They are using the 2nd Amendment as the justification and I find it disgusting they are allowed to do so.
If you are so concerned with our federal government using tyranny on its citizens, you better buck up more than an AR because that won’t do anything against an F-15. To my knowledge, there isn’t a citizen in this country who has the firepower of our federal government to stop a takeover.
It is time to stop the ridiculous talking points put out by conspiracy theorist and putting fear in the weak. Our children are being murdered by mental nuts that have access to assault rifles. How many guns are not being banned? This discussion needed to happen a long time ago.

The pro-criminal NRA issued a publication that prompted former U.S. President George H. W. The NRA later apologized for the letter’s language.

R. Reagan, I take it that you’re aware that your namesake backed passage of an assault-weapons ban, backed passage of a seven-day waiting period for gun purchases, signed into law the current federal near-ban on possession of fully automatic weapons, and as governor of California signed legislation banning the carrying of loaded handguns in public, in cars, etc.

Acting administratively, he banned the importation of “assault shotguns” and in 1986 signed legislation banning “cop-killing” ammo, stating that ““Certain forms of ammunition have no legitimate sporting, recreational, or self-defense use and thus should be prohibited.”

He also endorsed the idea I’ve presented here and elsewhere, suggesting that ” I think maybe there could be some restrictions, that there had to be a certain amount of training taken” before being allowed to buy weapons.

You’re aware of all that, right?

What they said doesn’t really matter as a matter of law. What Justice Scalia, writing for the majority in District of Columbia v Heller, does. As Jay pointed out in the reprint at 10:29

“Heller was decided almost entirely on the basis of the right to self-defense, with Justice Scalia giving short shrift to the whole idea of a right to armed revolution. Scalia essentially concludes that technology has made the whole concept of a right to armed rebellion an archaic artifact, because “a militia, to be as effective as militias in the 18th century, would require sophisticated arms that are highly unusual in society at large” and that “no amount of small arms could be useful against modern-day bombers and tanks.”

Towncrier — “Good link, Jackie.”

Except for the fact that the errors start in the second paragraph.

The words “well regulated” had a far different meaning at the time the Second Amendment was drafted. In the context of the Constitution’s provisions for Congressional power over certain aspects of the militia, and in the context of the Framers’ definition of “militia,” government regulation was not the intended meaning. Rather, the term meant only what it says, that the necessary militia be well regulated, but not by the national government.

Whenever y’all want to show me some hard evidence that the “militia” of the Second Amendment is somehow different and distinct from the “militia” of Article 1, Section 8 — which Congress has control over — I’ll be all ears.

“As the NRA apparently sees it, it is hypocritical and elitist for the president to protect his two daughters against kidnap efforts or physical attack by enemies foreign or domestic unless every other child in America also gets his or her own personal Secret Service detail.”
.
Only an Obama/Romney voter (or idiotz) would allow Federalies around their respective children.
The Harry Reid-endorsing NRA only speaks for the gullible.
.
Real Americans protect their own……………and “laugh off” anything vommited forth from the District of Crooks.

lol
.
And as Obama surrounds/protects himself with children, the despicable people who support him need to be aware………………………that tactic doesn’t work in Somalia, Yemen, Pakistan, etc…………….

Is there no place left for logic, reason and “common sense”? Of course criminals like easy prey. Of course disarming people makes them easier prey, and of course criminals are no more inclined to obey gun laws than they are to obey other laws, so of course criminals still have guns in all places where law abiding people have been deprived of them. Why is that so difficult for folks to comprehend?

It simply amazes me at the utter stupidity of some people. I think the add was dead on right. If we can’t protect our children and ourselves, why the hell should that fool and his family have the protection we aren’t allowed to have? I mean if there are no more guns on the street, why would the president or any other government official have a need for armed guards?

Let’s remind you fool’s as to the reasoning behind the “Right to Bare Arms. Idiot’s, it called the “Bill of Rights”. It’s our second amendment. There’s a very important sentence in those rights that states. The Right of the People to keep and bare arms shall not be infringed upon by socialist idiot’s. I added the socialist idiot’s myself. I mean if the shoe fits.

What part of the second amendment don’t you understand? It doesn’t say, we can have gun’s solely for the purpose of putting food on the table. It was put there so that we could defend ourselves against the take over of our government. Which by the way is exactly what that loon and you socialist fool’s are attempting to do. I think it should be perfectly legal for you to own fully automatic weapons. Crap if you can afford one, I see no reason you shouldn’t be able to own a tank or a fighter jet or even a bomber. We are losing our rights a little more every day and one these days the real Americans will have to rise up and take this country back from the people that would destroy it. I’m not talking about some foreign invasion. I talking about an invasion from within.

Hell the Muslims ain’t got to waste their time trying to destroy this country. We’re doing a pretty good job of that ourselves. You don’t want to live in a country that allows it’s citizens to have gun’s, then take your arse to Russia or China. Heck Canada is only a few miles north. Mecca would love to have you.

Oscar, that’s pretty much what I’ve been saying in the 2A discussions around here lately. The “militia” of th 2A is the same as the Congressionally-controlled “militia” of Article 1, Section 8, and if any pro-gun folks want to explain how they’re not, I’m all ears.

TC and myself have given you the Heller decision, the writer of the 2A Mason’s comments on the militia and other founders comments but you just refuse to accept these views and want to stick to the lefts viewpoint. The Majority in Heller said it is an individual right and as such has set the precedence and interpreted the law. If you do not like it the change the Constitution.

Ah..he resorts to childish humor as a means of deflection (which is a sure sign of defeat). Of course the reason I have focused upon this matter is just what you suggest and NOT that I have a problem with YOU misrepresenting the apostle Paul to scratch your “itching ears”. Jesus called Peter Satan when he opposed God’s expressed purpose. But you are bewildered as to why I would call you out on this (in my view) critical misrepresentation of Paul. If Paul has personal problems that cause him to say unwarranted or untrue things, then he is not to be trusted. If he is not to be trusted, then who in the NT is (since Paul wrote the bulk of the NT)? If no one is to be trusted, then why not toss the Bible into the garbage and do just this one thing recommended by Paul for those who don’t believe: “Eat, drink and be merry – for tomorrow we die.”

i simply stated the fact that democrats are advocating for sucking the brains out of babies before they are born. absolutely the truth.

Ok, since you went there–you do realize that by banning intact D&E, (aka “sucking the brains…” etc.), you require the doc to literally cut the fetus into pieces inside the womb prior to extraction, as the only alternative.

So by your brilliant logic, “republicans are advocating for cutting babies to pieces before they are born” is a truthful statement.

Just so you know.
