Some travelin’ music to get us all home safely
We just spent a magical New England Christmas with my sister Lee Ann and her family, along with a gathering of the extended Bookman/Halunen clan. It was a perfect week, complete with a snowy Christmas Day, but life and home beckon. We’re now headed back to the ATL to kick off the new year.
My brother-in-law and host, Reino, is among other things an avid amateur guitar player. In fact, one of the highlights of the holiday came when Reino presented a miniature electric guitar, complete with miniature amp, to his 5-year-old grandson, Nathan, with promises of guitar lessons to come.
Reino’s favorite blues guitar player is the late Gary Moore of Northern Ireland, best known in this country for his stint with Thin Lizzy. So in tribute to Reino and Lee Ann, and in thanks for their great hospitality, here’s Mr. Moore, performing one of his solo hits:

Facebook has taught me that people I knew that turned out to be libs only maintain their friendships as long as you are not talking about politics or religion. Nice way to end the night Jamvet. The girls went to bed finally, lol they went to bed at 3:40 the first night, 2:30 last night so I guess 1:00 tonight is an improvement. I’ve noticed that 2 with several liberal acquaintances and friends. You can disagree with them about politics and be very amicable about it but for some reason they take it very personally and hold a grudge. Now the thing about Fred is that he comes on here everyday with the same mindless claptrap that every con on here can’t think for themselves and sits on his ass all day listening to Rush limbaugh. He’s in his mid 40s and apparently is so alienated from previous friendships that he has to seek out friendship with total strangers on an anonymous blog. Happily, that’s not part of my portfolio, so I’m free to say that the question that still looms over the eleventh-hour fiscal cliff negotiations this weekend is a simple one: Will McConnell and Boehner allow votes on any last-minute deal? A more emphatic way of phrasing it is, will they finally put the country ahead of their party for a change, and ahead of their party’s unaltered view that any posture toward Obama other than belligerence equals capitulation to an enemy? That’s all that matters here. They both have the power to permit a deal, at least on taxes. The question is whether they’ll allow it. We’re going to learn a lot about the post-election Republican Party this weekend.

According to an analysis by Theodore Allen, an associate professor of industrial engineering at Ohio State University, as many as 49,000 individuals in Central Florida did not vote because of the problems at the polls.
About 19,000 of those people would have backed former GOP nominee Mitt Romney, while the rest would have gone for President Barack Obama, according to Allen.
The Orlando Sentinel, which published the results of Allen’s research, notes that those findings suggest “that Obama’s margin over Romney in Florida could have been roughly 11,000 votes higher than it was, based just on Central Florida results. Obama carried the state by 74,309 votes out of more than 8.4 million cast.”

My wife and I have had this practice for a number of years now that we do not buy Xmas presents for each other…it’s hard enough to buy presents for all of our grand and great grand kids…we wait until after the holiday and buy when the after holiday prices are low. Today is that day. We start out with our usual Waffle House stop to fuel up, and then off to the shops. The main items will be a new gas stove for her and a new TV for me. I want one of those jobs with the built in DVD player. We also want to upgrade our ‘puter…most likely a lap top for her and a Tablet for me. Any ideas out there? Advice is good in this case. Corbin: It’s tough to recommend a computer without knowing what you and your wife will be using them for. Apples are very expensive for what you get, especially if all you are doing is posting, email, surfing the web, ect………..
That being said, if all you want is a tablet, why not look into an iPad or iPad mini? My wife got me one a couple of years ago, before the iPad 2’s came out, and although it’s taken me a while to warm to it, I have come to love it. I’m not much of a laptop guy but it sure is handy.
As far as a stove is concerned, get a Dacor lol. While they aren’t open today, I found Howard Payne to be very accommodating. I don’t know where you live, but tehy are worth the drive. Home depot has NOTHING in stock and is a pain to deal with. They (HD) will however ship to your door. I had to put a new gas unit in a rental property and I used HD for the stove and Howard Payne’s guy for the installation. Since I got the cheapest stove I could find Howard Payne couldn’t compete on price, while if you are looking for a QUALITY stove Home Depot doesn’t carry them.
Good luck. Oh and one last thing. If you get an iPad you can put it on your wireless plan if you want and could be posting from the Aweful Waffle, (I love them too).

Many cons have not made appearances here since their candidate lost. I do not recall seeing a post from USMC, amongst others. They probably melted down along with Rove.

I have a Dell laptop. Works fine. It would be nice to have an IPad.
Sales were down last year on Smart Phones. IPad sales up. Now that may be a sign.

Let’s give it a rest. The fiscal curb will be taken care of just as soon as the GOP can remain faithful to Ol’ Grover by voting for a tax DECREASE when the the Bush cut expire after the First of the year. They can say they lowered taxes from the “new” Clinton era tax schedule…however they juggle it to make themselves look good is OK with me just so’s it gets done. The only thing that will happen that will hurt two million Americans will be the loss of unemployment insurance. The will trickle down too…That loss of money will not be there to be put int5o the economy. If the GOP had any kind of heart, they would take care of that before the First….But I doubt it.
