Progress
I grew up in a Christian home, however I am agnostic.
People regardless of their beliefs attempting to cram it down my throat bothers me. The belief in whichever “deity” they chose is not a concern of mine. I see those as two distinct things.
I personally have come across open minded people that are “believers” and “non-believers” as well as close minded people in both of those two categories.

“now as an atheist adult I do celebrate Christmas with my family in a manner that is unrelated to Christianity and more in the historically correct Pagan tradition”
but then you aren’t celebrating Christmas, because Pagans did not honor Jesus. You celebrate at the same time, but not the same thing.

A puzzler for me personally. Like Star Trek I did not watch the original

I feel like maybe I ought to defend Seinfeld, even though I didn’t start watching until after the first season, and then only somewhat intermittently.
(But by my tv viewing standards, that makes me a huge fan, simply because I’ve found it very difficult to commit to any scripted shows for several decades now. Not sure why that is, probably because I’m so jaded with the commercial tv offerings that everything seems been there/done that to me.)
Seinfeld was funny because it pushed its meta to beyond meta. You couldn’t get more self referential than a comedy about a comedian than Seinfeld was, without having cast members directly addressing the audience–but they always kept the fourth wall up.
were the characters unlikeable? of course! that was the freaking point! that’s why in the series finale, they are all imprisoned (and threatened with death by fellow inmates) — it was the show’s way of saying “happy now? no? GFY.”
you take all that, add kind of a minstrel-show aspect to it (I’m talking about the stereotypical portrayal of self-absorbed NYC urbanites, which the rest of the nation probably enjoyed feeling morally superior to), and a supportive network and some very hard-driven creative types behind it, and it’s not real surprising it did so well.

ok you got me there on the phraseology–”first in line” at the trough didn’t seem right, and “front row” doesn’t work either. Maybe I should’ve gone with “feeding trough privileges.”
but seriously, I kinda assume that Seinfeld, David, Louis-Dryfuss and the others sharing in that fortune are rather liberal, politically. Don’t claim to know, though.

With HER track record; she should ask about if he had a job first. If she was in a room, with 60K smart, straight, attractive, intelligent, employed men, and one scumbag looser, she’d pick the scumbag looser every time. AND pay for all his drinks.

1.0 out of 5 stars Worse than I imagined….poor Dave Attell…an embarrassment to all concerned…, August 4, 2008
By
Grigory’s Girl “GR”
This review is from: The Gong Show With Dave Attell Season 1 (Amazon Instant Video)
Out of morbid curiosity, I watched this, and it was as painful as I
thought it was going to be. I liked Dave Attell’s Insomniac Theater in
small doses, and I hoped this would be at least as good as that, but it
wasn’t.
It’s depressing, boring, tedious, and deeply embarrassing. Atell
himself seems deeply distressed and embarrassed (similar to Louie
Anderson and his horrible stint on Family Feud) to be hosting such a
mediocre show. The celebrity judges seem to feel the same way as well.
You actually feel sorry for them trying (in vain) to make this show
worth watching. While it has better production values than the original
Gong Show, it’s actually worse than the original, because the original
Gong Show had terrible production values and was cheesy as anything on
TV before or since, but Chuck Barris (the original host) kind of knew
that. That quality is what has endeared it to many (even though I was never a huge fan of the original).
I doubt this will last more than one season.
Wow! Now I’ve GOT to watch it!!!

D. DoRight — “Wow! Now I’ve GOT to watch it!!!”
You don’t know the half of it. Imagine a talent show where instead of catty Simon and wackadoodle Paula Abdul, you’ve got barely-there comic Andy Dick, renowned smack addict and guitarist Dave Navarro and Triumph The Insult Comic Dog judging the acts, and Dave Attell allegedly in control of it all.
Some of the acts look like the kind of things you could possibly hire people to do in Las Vegas — as long as the cops don’t find out about it. I recall one act (that I will not detail here for fear of being banned) where the young lady performer was IMMEDIATELY propositioned by Dave Navarro after she finished (e.g. “I’m serious. Call me. TONIGHT.”)
Mrs. JHM and I watched this show absolutely AGOG that Comedy Central was letting Attell get away with what was happening.

Most of our budgetary and moral problems in this nation are due to this.
“America is awash in poverty, crime, drugs and other problems, but more than perhaps anything else, it all comes down to this, said Vincent DiCaro, vice president of the National Fatherhood Initiative: Deal with absent fathers, and the rest follows.”
“The spiral continues each year. Married couples with children have an average income of $80,000, compared with $24,000 for single mothers.”
Most poverty is completely wiped out when people are married and stayed married when they have children.

US Birth Rate Hits New Record Low, A Nation of Singles, Implications for the Future
The US birth rate fell to a record low in 2011. The marriage rate is tumbling as well. And the number of single Americans is now at a record high.
[T]he US birth rate has fallen below the level needed to keep our population steady, much less growing. This pattern is likely to continue lower, especially as immigrants adopt US cultural norms of fewer children and smaller families. This will have growing implications for the economy[.]
What does this group look like? Geographically, they tend to live in cities. As urban density increases, marriage rates (and childbearing rates) fall in nearly a straight line. Politicos James Carville and Stanley Greenberg put together some very interesting data on singles. Of the 111 million single eligible voters, 53 million are women and 58 million are men. Only 5.7 million of these women are Hispanic and 9.7 million are African American. Nearly three-quarters of all single women are white.
This is a great article if you have a few minutes. (The article follows the introduction.)

Kamchak – 3:15 “All women are the same height when lying down”
And, so are all men.
Unfortunately, the overwhelming majority of women never seem to understand this.

Some women say that when a man is lying down, it is not heighth
that matters, it is length that matters.

Well there it seems the simple answer is to make sure that when someone marries, they can never get divorced. Problem solved.
Cause we all know that single women popping out babies is the problem (unless those babies have guns at the time of birth).
But remember, we can’t give them birth control and we can’t have any morning after pills available OTC, and we have to force them to have babies to live in poverty. Which Republican is going to be teaching that abstinence class? Newt?

we can’t give them birth control? That sucks. I guess they’ll just have to ante up and pay for it themselves. that’s just turrible. turrible I tell ya.
