“And there is the major rub. A persons belief system as to what is and is not moral and proper behavior”

Well, I’ll tell you how *I* see it. To me all sin (or immorality, if you prefer) is the betrayal of an innocent trust. The greater the innocence and/or the greater the betrayal…the worse the sin. I do not label anything a sin (or immorality) if there is no betrayal of INNOCENT trust.

One has to wonder about people who spend so much time hating Christians. if you don’t believe then shut up and go on your merry way. Nobody cares about your opinion. And why is it mostly Christianity they mouth spend douch time trying to disprove. Why don’t they jump on Islam or Hinduism?

Maybe it’s because so many “Christians” are so judgemental AND have no problem saying so.

If I understand your statement correctly, a person that steals something from a child is worse then a person that steals something of equal value from an adult?

but I’m not talking legalities. I’m talking sin (immorality) Stealing from a child is betraying an innocent. Presumably, an adult has already had their innocence betrayed many times and is therefore more equipped to deal with that betrayal. A child is not…or shouldn’t be.

td – this statement from DogGone says it all about SOME people and religion (IMO):

It’s always a problem when doctrine is more important then people

Now i have been blessed in life to meet REAL believers. And these believers called themselves Christians, some called themselves Hindu, some called themselves Moslem; but ALL were real in their faith.

I have YET to find one TRULY religious doctrine that preaches hate and discord.

The bible teaches love.

The Koran teaches love.

The teachings of Buddha are about loving oneself and therefore you are able to love others.

The Hindu teaches a love of a higher plane.

It’s the TRUE believers that are the real followers of their faith.

But, unfortunately, its their evil twins that are highlighted on blogs, in the media, and in the businesses and offices/workplaces around the world.

IMO its not the true believers that make non-believers sneer, point, and ridicule them. It’s their evil twins who profess to love God, yet hate their neighbors.

The problem I am having with your logic is it would mean stealing from a 40 year old would be worse then stealing from a 80 year old. If one took it to the next level then the life of a 40 year old is worth more then the life of the 80 year old and the life of a 5 year old is worth more then a 30 year old.

I really can’t stay
Baby it’s cold outside
I gotta go away
Baby it’s cold outside
This evening has been
Been hoping that youd drop by
So very nice
I’ll hold your hands their just like ice
My mother will start to worry
Beautiful what’s your hurry?
My father will be pacing the floor
Listen to the fireplace roar
So really I better scurry
Beautiful please don’t hurry
Well maybe just a half a drink more
Put some records on while I pour

The neighbors might think
Baby it’s bad out there
Say.. what’s in this drink?
No cabs to be had out there
I wish I knew how to break the spell
Your eyes are like starlight now
I’ll take your hat your hair looks swell
I ought to say no, no, no sir
Mind if move in closer?
At least I’m gonna say that I tried
What’s the sense of hurtin’ my pride?
I really can’t stay
Baby don’t hold out
(Both) Ahh but its cold outside!

I still can’t get over Django. Three hours. The n word was used at least a thousand times in that movie. Literally every other word. Tarantino said that he couldn’t imagine anyone else but Jamie Fox as Django. Hasn’t Tarantino seen Blazing Saddles? Fox was a terrible choice. Barely worked. Barely. The whole thing leaned too far toward Mel Brooks. There’s a bit with the KKK where the terrorists complain about their costumes. It’s funny, and one of the highlights, but it’s unearned. It’s like the director watched a Seinfeld marathon and seeing a documentary on medieval torture techniques. The contrast in tone is too disconcerting and you get the feeling that the shark gets jumped over and over and over. I have been searching for an original artist all my life. I want to be amused by something new, that has no references. I think I’ve seen every movie in 2014. Okay? Movie pitches are always, “It’s like Mission Impossible with Vampires”. Tarantino is like most successful artists: they think they’re infallible and they truly believe every pronouncement is law and every idea will work. It’s a great time to be a yes man.

Indigo — I don’t think Mary was averse to the Holy Spirit impregnating her. She had grew up with the scriptures and heard about them all of her life, so she would’ve known that to be the “Earthly mother of the son of God, the mother of the Saviour of her people”; would be a great honor.

Could she have said No and not faced consequences? Perhaps — but we’ll never know.

Luke 1:30-39

English Standard Version (ESV)

30 And the angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, for you have found favor with God. 31 And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you shall call his name Jesus. 32 He will be great and will be called the Son of the Most High. And the Lord God will give to him the throne of his father David, 33 and he will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end.”

34 And Mary said to the angel, “How will this be, since I am a virgin?”[a]

35 And the angel answered her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born[b] will be called holy—the Son of God. 36 And behold, your relative Elizabeth in her old age has also conceived a son, and this is the sixth month with her who was called barren. 37 For nothing will be impossible with God.” 38 And Mary said, “Behold, I am the servant[c] of the Lord; let it be to me according to you

Such as:

The passage in Genesis that speaks of Sodom & Gommorrah and Lot wanting to give his daughters to strange men:

Lot refused to give his guests to the inhabitants of Sodom and, instead, offered them his two virgin daughters “which have not known man” and to “do ye to them as [is] good in your eyes”.[Gen 19:8]

Georgia — “I still can’t get over Django. Three hours. The n word was used at least a thousand times in that movie. Literally every other word.”

Mrs. JHM kinda wants to see Django, but I just plain don’t care for Tarantino’s films. I’ve *tried* to sit through them — really, I have — but I think they’re just unoriginal ripoff suckfests. Frankly, I don’t think Tarantino has an original idea in his head and I think that everything he puts on film — and I do mean EVERYTHING — is something he saw, read about or heard someplace else and figured ‘dude, that sounds so cool, I’m just going to have to put it in my next movie.’ Then he does exactly that, shoehorning it in there whether it fits or not.

From my perspective, it’s like Quentin Tarantino used to be the student body of a film school, then after a bomb blew everything and everybody in the school all to hell, a surgeon stitched together all the body parts he could find, substituting pages from textbooks and little bitty film clips for skin and bones when no parts that fit could be found. What the surgeon ended up with was Quentin Tarantino.

And SOMEHOW, that man keeps conning Hollywood movers and shakers into paying for him to substitute filmmaking for psychoanalysis.

That’s how I see it, anyway.

So if delusional lickspittle is a definite, is it possible to have fanatical lickspittle too?

I suppose that’s true of a number of WWII movies. I will add I don’t much care for realistic violence. Just don’t care to watch it. But the acting in that particular Tarantino movie was exceptional.

Come to think of it, I do believe that’s the only one of his movies I’ve watched from start to finish.

Nah, I just like how Michelle Rodriguez looks. C’mon, you know my wife is Hispanic.

I’m down with the brown. :D

Quite possible. Also Fred ™ used ‘delusional lickspittle wannabe’
which is a harsher pejorative.

Morning, Brocephus

Why would someone lick spittle? Would one have to be delusional?

Paul — “I suppose that’s true of a number of WWII movies. I will add I don’t much care for realistic violence. Just don’t care to watch it. But the acting in that particular Tarantino movie was exceptional.”

My wife and I were discussing the topic of WWII on film a while back, and she commented that while she didn’t usually like war films, she enjoyed the Band of Brothers miniseries FAR more than she enjoyed The Pacific despite the fact that they were both made by the same production house (Tom Hanks’ Playtone).

I had read BoB when it was first published, and I was somewhat familiar with the life stories of the three Marines who were focused on in The Pacific (Eugene Sledge, Robert Leckie and John Basilone), but I had to agree with her. BoB was just plain *more engaging* than The Pacific. And both had plenty of violence, but my wife actually *paid attention to* and asked questions about some of the firefights (specifically the Brecourt Manor assault and Captain Speirs’ notable run between the lines in Holland).

I think it’s because the characters in BoB just plain connected better with the audience — even though I knew the story and knew what was going to happen, I *cared* more about the 505th than I did the three Marines in The Pacific.

Did you see both miniseries? If so, what did you think?

I agree with your take. Rather lost interest in the Pacific story but BoB – it was much more about how they were bound together at a very human level (and as trite as that may sound it’s what came through to me).

Correction to above — the Band of Brothers were in the 506th Parachute Infantry Regiment, not the 505th. I blame insufficient caffeination this morning. :)

Yeah sure, I’m just pulling your piñata. I share that preference with you — dark blue/black hair, deep brown eyes, very exotic.

“This topic still going? Anyone else see the parallels between the earnest atheists and the earnest ‘the earth is really really 10000 hears old’ types who occasionally appear? They are both irritatingly amusing in their own way.”

Just my EOI contribution, but they both come off sounding like a tent revivalist. Change one’s “yes” to a “no” and the others’ “no” to a “yes” and you couldn’t tell the difference in their fire and brimstone rhetorical devices. And, you’re right, for all their irritating nyanh-nyanh, they are decidedly amusing.

I’m fairly sure that at some time in my reckless youth I have said
‘I would certainly lick the spit(tle) off of that’ and yes, I was probably
delusional at the time.

Paul, JHM,
I still believe that one of the best WWII movies ever made was “Battle Ground”, made back in ‘49.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Battleground_(film)

I was struck with the attitudes of the actors in their roles, especially with the Army humor, prevalent in combat units.

I did see and liked Band of brothers. As far as a great rendition of a great story, it was fantastic. I haven’t seen “The Pacific” yet (I was hoping to get a copy for “All Children’s Day”
But I guess I didn’t qualify.

JHM, I was wondering if part of the difference in the movies to your wife was because of the Japanese enemy versus the German one? As in race and culture…

The only thing I want to know about the movie is why he named his character Django?

The problem with war movies is their limitation in portraying
the vast scope of war.

Another one to check Netflix for. Thanks!

Morning josef

I really appreciated your contribution yesterday. Beats me why some people accept party invites that they just know they’re not going to enjoy.

And please pardon the abbreviated comments. Still at 8000 ft with no computer but just a Droid keyboard.

Doggone/GA – 9:18 “As does every other Christian”

Over the years, I’ve had people from many different denominations tell me they KNOW they’re right and are going to heaven. I’ve had Catholics tell me they’re right and are the only ones going to heaven.

It makes no logical sense whatsover to believe a “God of love” would expect us fallible humans to somehow be able to unerringly know which religious belief is the “right” one.

Therefore, I’m forced to believe they are all myths and we will never know why we’re here.

In fact, there may be no “why”.

I have not been in a war situation, But I imagine it would come down to what is visible to the individual if you are trying to portray the story of a few people.

I rather think being delusional is a defining characteristic of being a youth. Or as Vinny would say, a ‘yute.’

Unfortunately, when young Christians become adults, most of them keep that youthful delusional thinking.
