“There is not minimum skill requirement or license to become a parent.”
Good post, Keep-man. I think if reason and calm were to prevail, and an actual desire to make a difference rather than play politics, one (of many) of the areas one could focus upon would be parental responsibility. Ms. Lanza did NOT reportedly have her “weapons” secured and paid (and caused many others to pay) the ultimate price for her folly. We cannot legislatively produce wise, caring and intelligent parents. But I suppose we can insist they assume a certain amount of responsibility for weapons they possess.
Of course, any legislation along these lines would not have prevented the convicted felon Spengler from shooting four firemen. Nor would it have prevented the greatest school mass killing in history:

Right by the door, there was a big stack of real-estate-style metal yard signs bearing the message “ARMED RESPONSE.”
Lordy. It’s all about blabbering and richard-swinging.
Real stupid, if you ask me.
Criminals know there is at least one weapon in the house and will either wait until they are sure you’re gone, or come in with weapons drawn and ready to shoot anything that moves.

To assume that revealed all the gun owners is faulty logic and can not be proven.
That’s true, but it would seem more to the point of not reliably informing parents as to what homes have guns. But if I was a burglar that list would be a mighty fine starting point. It certainly increases the odds there will be at least one gun in the home. Many gun owners have multiple weapons anyhow, so your odds of finding more than one are also good.

“Sure TC, so after meeting the parents, when is it appropriate to ask to inspect their homes? ”
Re-read my post, buddy. I said get to “know” neighbors, not “meet” them. Rosalynn Carter “met” John Gacy and, in surely one of the most disturbing and bizarre moments in American history, was photographed shaking his hand. Catch my drift?

That’s true…I guess I should have emphasized I think the real danger in publishing the list would be informing professional type burglars who make a pretty good living stealing people’s stuff. They’re probably smart enough to understand a house not being on the list doesn’t mean they won’t be met with a couple of rounds. From my understanding (since it’s not my day job, lol) those people actively avoid meeting homeowners, period.
The typical crackhead who wanders up and peeks in windows, I dunno. No telling how they’d use the information.

As far as I can tell, the answer to this whole problem is really simple. We should require every person in the United States above the age of 5 to carry a pistol or gun of some type.
You know, kinda like what they have in Kennesaw, GA and what they had back in the Wild West.
That way, no criminal in his right mind would dream of trying to hold up someone or break into his home. Now look, I know that some of those schoolyard spats are going to result in a murder. But, hey! that’s better than some creep shooting his way into a school and killing a bunch of innocent, unarmed kids.
Just let ‘im try, now. Those 5-year-olds would be pumping some serious lead into that MF. Why, he wouldn’t know what hit him!
And you, all you accountants and office workers. It’s a disgrace that you don’t arm yourselves and that your not ready for the unexpected. Heck, do you really expect law enforcement to be there?
And you women wandering up and down the mall. Don’t you feel ashamed that you’re not prepared for the type of mall shooting that happened recently. If not, you should be! You could have been the one to make the difference. The one who “took that MF out and popped a cap up his ass!” You could have been the headline instead of some mal-adjusted creep! Think about it!
Well, all of that will change under my plan. Gone are the days when people don’t shoot back. Gone are the days when lilly-livered wimps just stand there and take it like those old magazine ads where the skinny guy gets sand kicked in his face.
No, now you will be a real man. You have the power. And if some creep even so much looks at you funny, you blast him!

I would need to have a clearer understanding of what you are getting at to comment properly. The word “foist” has the connotation of gaining acceptance for something based on stealth or deceit. There was none of that, I would conclude, in the publication of the names and addresses of those with gun permits. It was, it seems, a brazen attempt to pillory citizens who might not agree with the views of the newspaper – their professed “motive” notwithstanding (of course they were going to have to advance some justification for what they did).
But, in general, I suppose in politics there has been more than a little foisting of ideas, programs, laws and such which is not tied to a particular ideology.

Studies showing a causal relationship between movie/video game violence to actual criminal violence are circa 1980’s and have been discredited by subsequent studies. In other words, mentioning movie violence is simply a way to deflect criticism of lax gun laws and their ACTUAL link to gun violence.

I see. So an angry personal attack is verboten but not a “humorous” one (even if it angers the recipient, is a personal attack by definition and adds absolutely nothing to the exchange of ideas here). A rule is a rule, sister, and wrong is wrong. I think one may satirize an opponent’s views or ideology or political party or religious or non-religious beliefs fairly here. I think some of the posters do that quite humorously (like Redneck). I have done it myself under a different persona.
Now I have certainly been guilty of making personal insults in the past. I really want to not do that here. I am trying to figure out a way to avoid that. For the times I have insulted you, I apologize. That is not who I want to be – even when the people I am talking to don’t know who I am.

“As I wrote earlier, the Male Masters of the Uterus are gonna position themselves right out of office.”
I was surprised to learn today that I apparently have been duped by liberals in their arguments for abortion rights. I had been thinking that the best Constitutional ground for permitting abortions under the 9th amendment was the “fact” that is was practiced in the 18th century as part of “common law”. Maybe not, after all:

If what I was led to believe is truly a fiction, then I guess Brosephus this is an instance of foisting things upon people we see in politics (an I am by no means exempting religious-minded politicians from the act).

LOL. A caught the change but I still like the visual of pompas better. Think about it for a minute of the old fat guy sitting in the desk chair, sipping a drink and smoking one cig after another hitting the refresh key.

Doom, leaping out of the bushes hours later for yet another proclamation you weren’t angry….this is not supporting your case for not being angry.
Dish whatever you want my way it’s not scary. Your sexism is leaking out again, not all women freak out when a man disagrees with them. It’s not some indication I’m malfunctioning and defective and estrogen-less.

“The documentary takes viewers though historic footage, much of it very graphic, on genocidal examples of regimes that disarmed their people, then murdered them. The documentary presents examples from the Russian death camps and starvation campaign, the Communist Chinese death regime, Germany’s Nazi Holocaust, the Cambodian, Rwandan, Armenian, Guatemalan, and Ugandan genocides, and other situations where not owning a firearm cost citizens their lives.
Another point of the documentary profiles the myths that disarmament of Americans could never happen. However, in the film, history is presented that it did happen to a group of people, black Americans who became slaves and were not allowed to own firearms and taken advantage of through hangings and killings.
“Watch it my friends…and share,” Morgan said. “This video makes the case for the right to bear arms. History has proven that unarmed citizens lose their freedom and often, their lives.”

“Foist should have been force. Autocorrect strikes again.”
Ah. Yet I think it is fair to say that people will strive to have their way either by deceit or force. And no one is exempt from that temptation religious or otherwise. And, we all get a taste of our own medicine sooner or later. I just read an article today which confirms something I have said in the past but which some people here claimed was purely a fiction of my imagination (that people would be forced to observe laws against their religious beliefs):
