Will our anger be buried alongside Newtown’s dead?

Connecticut_School_Sh_inev_t607

A flag flies at half mast on a dark, wintry night in Newtown, Conn. This week, the townspeople will bury their dead, including the bodies of 20 young first-graders murdered by an assailant who broke into their school. Coffin manufacturers have donated the 20 small caskets that will be needed in the burials. (AP)

The Bushmaster .223, the weapon used by Adam Lanza to kill 26 people at Sandy Hook Elementary School. Each victim had been shot three to 11 times, according to the coroner's report. Lanza is reported to have brought multiple 30-round magazines to the school, and at the time of his death at his own hand still possessed hundreds of rounds of ammunition.

Robbie Parker, the father of six-year-old Emilie, has had to explain her death to her two siblings, ages 3 and 4. "They seem to get the fact that they have somebody they're going to miss very much," he said.

An excerpt from President Barack Obama’s message to Newtown and the nation, delivered at a prayer vigil Sunday night (entire text available here):

“Someone once described the joy and anxiety of parenthood as the equivalent of having your heart outside of your body all the time, walking around. With their very first cry, this most precious, vital part of ourselves — our child — is suddenly exposed to the world, to possible mishap or malice. And every parent knows there is nothing we will not do to shield our children from harm.

And yet, we also know that with that child’s very first step, and each step after that, they are separating from us; that we won’t — that we can’t always be there for them. They’ll suffer sickness and setbacks and broken hearts and disappointments. And we learn that our most important job is to give them what they need to become self-reliant and capable and resilient, ready to face the world without fear.

And we know we can’t do this by ourselves. It comes as a shock at a certain point where you realize, no matter how much you love these kids, you can’t do it by yourself. That this job of keeping our children safe, and teaching them well, is something we can only do together, with the help of friends and neighbors, the help of a community, and the help of a nation. And in that way, we come to realize that we bear a responsibility for every child because we’re counting on everybody else to help look after ours; that we’re all parents; that they’re all our children.

This is our first task — caring for our children. It’s our first job. If we don’t get that right, we don’t get anything right. That’s how, as a society, we will be judged.

And by that measure, can we truly say, as a nation, that we are meeting our obligations? Can we honestly say that we’re doing enough to keep our children — all of them — safe from harm? Can we claim, as a nation, that we’re all together there, letting them know that they are loved, and teaching them to love in return? Can we say that we’re truly doing enough to give all the children of this country the chance they deserve to live out their lives in happiness and with purpose?”

I’ve been reflecting on this the last few days, and if we’re honest with ourselves, the answer is no.”

The answer is no.

Chr5istian Conservative,

“Wow what a display of “Christian love” you show. And no, a fetus is NOT a living thing.”

Only by legal definition.

“it is an appendage in the woman’s body until it draws its first unassisted breath outside her body.”

Not a true statement. Even the SCOTUS talks about the rights of the unborn when they are considered to be able to live outside the womb. This is the reason a person that kills a pregnant woman can be charged with a double homicide. Remember you can not kill a fetus by your definition.

As a hunter, I am not allowed to have more than 3-5 rounds loaded at a time depending on the game and the state therein. If you need more than 5 round then you probably shouldn’t hunt. Kind of ironic that we can have 30 rounds to hunt humans. That goes for the police too. (Military is different)

I call BS on this NRA created cliché. No one, democrat, progressive, whatever has ever called for the removal of all weapons. What Jay and others are saying is that we have limits on the type of guns people own and who is qualified to own them. Just as we have limits on how fast cars are allwed to go and the competancy of the driver. The NRA has always been a master, take-no- prisoners, propagandist organization who’s over-the-top rhetoric has become the model for all types of conservative causes. This argument of “they’re coming to take all your guns” has always been a pack of lies.

If it’s a choice between putting some soldiers that may have stress anxiety on guard duty around our schools or letting more shooters get at our children, I suggest we vote for the soldiers.

As for training, it’s pretty simple.

The soldiers stand guard over the schools. They are already trained to stand guard.

b. SECURITY OF A FREE STATE

“The phrase “security of a free state” meant “security of a free polity” not security of each of the several states.”

“There are many reasons why the militia was thought to be “necessary for the security of a free state” ……….. Third, when the
able bodied men of a nation are trained in arms and organized, they are better able to resist tyranny.”

Page 25

3. RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN PREFATORY CLAUSE AND OPERATIVE CLAUSE

“That history showed that the way tyrants had eliminated a militia consisting of all the able bodied men was not by
banning the militia but simply taking away the people’s arms, enabling a select militia or standing army to suppress
political opponents.”

Page 26

“It was understood across the political spectrum that the right helped to secure the ideal of a citizen militia, which might
be necessary to oppose an oppressive military force if the constitutional order broke down.”

The shooter was diagnosed with a personality disorder while he was still in grade school. The mother had disagreements with the school over how they were dealing with him and removed him from school.
We need to address how these disorders can be treated. With proper treatment, the chances are good that this shooting could have been avoided.
The answer, as much as there is one, depends on how we raise our young people, and how we diagnose and treat those that are seen to have personality disorders at an early age.
Those behaviors can be corrected with proper treatment.

The reason we don’t hear about the gun slaughter epidemic in Chicago, which is ongoing and unspeakable, is because of racism pure and simple. It’s in “that” part of town, so naturally it would occur. Our position, even if unspoken, is: those people are basically animals anyway, so, what do you expect?

No. The reason we don’t hear is because it is Chicago, ILL, home of some of the strictest gun ownership laws in the country. If gun restriction could work, it would work in Chicago. The media doesn’t want you to hear about Chicago’s gun problem. If the left were correct, Chicago’s gun laws should be the gun nirvana that America is looking for. They banned carrying, they banned assault weapons, large magazines, etc, etc. Now, only the criminals and the police have guns. Yes, by all means! Because Prohibition always fixes the problem! I mean the symptom, not the cause.

Senseless, depraved violence is a huge money maker in this country (and nowhere else, really) because so many people here want it. They have been conditioned to like it and now they will pay BIG money for it.

Vicarious bloodlust and wanton violence – all in the name of “entertainment” – is cool, huh? Can you show me the dozens of headless bodies again, please, Mr. Stallone?

Witness the political success of that fantastically wealthy, albeit swinish Schwarzenegger. Did anyone even take a righteous stand against this star and all of the countless others associated with his filth?

No. I think not. But in my estimation the man was not fit to lead the people of California. Certainly from a moral standpoint. And it looks like I was correct.

I’ve done my part, and have for thirty years. I go to ZERO of these movies. I watch ZERO of those TV programs and games. And I have and will continue to denounce by name those who glamorize murder and mayhem for millions of dollars.

We have had the right to own guns in this country since it’s founding. This kind of horrible violence has come about in the last decade or so. Twenty five years or so ago the most popular video games were Mario Bros or Pacman. Today all the most popular games are “Assasin’s Creed, Mortal Combat etc. about criminal activity and mass murder. Even movies are increasingly violent. Compare “The Longest Day” with “Saving Private Ryan”. Both cover the same event,D-Day, but the difference in the on screen violence is striking. We need to stop feeding this kind of violence to our youngsters as if were normal. If any industry needs to be regulated it is the movie and video game industry.

Compromise.

Screw the NRA and Hollywood.

Ban automatic weapons. Ban movies and video games with guns and violence.

Automatic weapons are already banned. Banning alcohol really worked during the days of prohibition. The war on drugs has been an overwhelming success. Banning video movies and video games should solve all of our problems.

Republican anger will not be buried alongside those 20 little children. They’re mad as hell that anyone would dare to even suggest that they should give up any ground when it comes to their gun rights. And don’t even try to hold them accountable or responsible for anything that happens with a gun.

I’m sure this has probably been said too many times on the blogs here the last couple of days, but
hopefully this event will make more people aware and responsible for how they raise their children.

Outlawing guns isn’t going to save lives overall in society.

It’s primarily a societal issue, not a gun issue.

Blaming dems or cons isn’t going to solve anything. This is an issue that must be addressed by each and everyone of us.

Take responsibility!
