On a melancholy Friday, ‘Paint It, Black’
Watching the Hurricane Sandy relief concert this week, I was reminded again that a rock band that survives more or less intact for 50 years, as the Rolling Stones have now done, is simply outrageous.
Their record becomes more remarkable still when you consider that for much of that time, surviving just one year as a hard-partying Stone was like living 10 years in most other bands. Brian Jones didn’t make it through alive, but somehow the indestructible Keef Richards did. And they really don’t show many signs of slowing down.
Here’s Mick and the boys doing one of my favorites, “Paint It, Black.” Jones plays the sitar on this song, an instrument that he first saw played by George Harrison, who of course learned it from the great Ravi Shankar, who died Tuesday at the age of 92, and who was the father of Nora Jones.

I’m going to break down Morality’s comments because there is a inequity in his statements
First — Again – for God to prevent an event in your life He has to be IN your life.
Not true. God watches over the saints as well as the sinners. He knows your heart before YOU even know your heart.
Jeremiah 1:5: — “Before I formed you in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you as a prophet to the nations.”
The Bible says there will be trials and tribulations. Why hasn’t your precious gub’ment prevented this tragedy?
Definition of Government – Noun
The governing body of a nation, state, or community.
The system by which a nation, state, or community is governed
How can a governing body save you from the unexpected? They can put laws into place, they can put people in positions to enforce those laws, but of course, they can’t “save you”.
The reality is that the gub’ment isn’t going to save you. That’s why I have a gun in my house – ’cause those drug addicts that the gub’ment won’t/ can’t control are going DOOR TO DOOR.
So, your true Christianity comes out at last!! IF you are a true believer as you try to proclaim to be, and if you truly believe that your FAITH is going to save you, then why do you need a gun?

Certainly, but then you’re talking about possibly up to hundreds of people having one – depending on the size of the city. The more people who have one, the greater the chances of once being lost or stolen…and used to commit a crime.
Yesterday we heard calls for “sensible” discussions. Well, this is what a sensible discussion looks like. Present your ideas and see if they can be beaten down. Because if someone HERE can think of a way around it, then so can someone determined to commit just such an atrocity as occurred yesterday.

So your “God of love” allowed little children to be murdered because the Supreme Court and Government, all adults, “invited God out”?
Since there is not a shred of evidence God(Gods) even exist, it would take a delusional religious nut like you to believe such a fantastic tale.
Of course, if you have hard scientific evidence your God actually exists, why haven’t you shared this with all of us so we can be true beleivers?

Morality spoke directly about God being taken out of schools, etc and a link to murder and tragedies..
When asked to reconcile per capita murder rates of 100 years ago (ie the facts) with today’s per capita rates, he ran as fast as he could.
Nothing against your faith Morality, however it would be nice if you were able to back up your posts when provided the facts you left out.

Checked it out on Google. Studies are still being done with other small insects as well – to find a way to improve flight dynamics of planes.

And that is the problem. As I said yesterday, I heard an interview with a psychiatrist about that and he said the millions of people present the same character “tells” but they don’t all turn out to be mass killers.

I grew up in a small town. There were a few older boys there that fit the same description – quiet, remote, odd acting. I was afraid of them but none of them ever became violent.

It’s also time to talk about how to protect against semi-auto hand guns with magazines that hold up to 20 or so rounds and can be reloaded in a flash. Two of those guns can fire a lot of rounds quickly.
A six shot revolver takes a long time to fire that many rounds.

When God is invited OUT by the gub’ment and “Supreme” Court the schools are void of God. The children in the schools are void of God.
That’s complete bullsh*t of the most impeccable quality. If you are a believer, then God is everywhere. God has not been invited out of nothing. The Supreme Court and the government has simply said that you can’t force your God onto those who don’t believe in him.
As a Christian, I stand in awe at the mass stupidity and misuse of religion by those who supposedly are believers. If you believe, nobody can take that from you, regardless to what the laws or courts say.

Correct. You have no idea how many times A DAY mrsstsimons and
hundreds of others everywhere work frantically to diffuse tortured
minds. She had two incidents yesterday, two squad cars, came
home shaking, in what’s supposed to be the happiest place on earth.
We really have to address and quit ignoring mental health in this
country. That’s all i need to type, i’ve got a 5 yr old.

I probably shouldn’t be here on the verandah today, but here I am anyway.
Why are we bringing G-d into it? Because we need answers, I would say. Some would blame G-d. Some would reject, not the concept of G-d, but G-d H-mself. Others would seek solace in G-d. And some, alas, would see this as an opportunity to preach their own beliefs or non beliefs, turning a tragedy that affects all of humanity into a pulpit for their own belief or non belief rather than an event which should bring us together in a soul search for order and meaning.
I am a believer. And, yes, this puts that belief to a test of faith. Luckily, I suppose, my own brand allows me the option to be angry at G-d, to question H-m, to demand answers which, we know nonetheless are not coming from H-m on high, but from within ourselves where G-d resides.
It is natural for us to “go there” especially in times like these. And, yes, this is the place to do it. It is a good thing that we have such a venue.

I don’t know the exact percentage but I would accept as fact that only a small percentage of the mentally ill are actually prone to become mass murderers. None the less I believe anyone whose being treated for a mental issue or has a history should appear in a data base that prohibits them from purchasing or owning a firearm. Additionally, we need to address the more difficult challenge of identifying those who have mental issues but go untreated. Those suspected of mental illness were once a long time ago reported to mental health treatment centers and could be picked up and detained for observation. Society doesn’t allow that anymore because that practice got so far out of control that anybody could report someone who was perfectly healthy but yet be picked up and detained for observation. While we wouldn’t want to return to those times we have to realize that the system for identifying and assisting those with mental problems has become far too lax.
