It’s an uncomfortable question, which means that it’s right in Barbara Walters’ wheelhouse. As she put it to New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie:
For those who can’t watch video, here’s how the exchange goes:
WALTERS: “There are people who say that you couldn’t be president because you are so heavy. What do you say to that?”
CHRISTIE: “It’s ridiculous. I mean, that’s ridiculous. I think people have watched me for a number of weeks in Hurricane Sandy doing 18-hour days, so I don’t really think that would be a problem.”
I’m not so sure that’s true. As Christie acknowledged to Walters, he isn’t merely overweight, he’s seriously overweight. That struck home during last night’s broadcast of the Hurricane Sandy charity concert in New York, which Christie attended. When the camera panned to Christie, standing in a crowd surrounded by other people, the size differential between the governor and those around him was startling.
Some have raised the question of whether Christie’s weight reflects a character flaw or lack of personal discipline, but I’m with the governor on that one: “It’s ridiculous.” That alleged “lack of discipline” doesn’t show up in other aspects of his life, and as Christie aptly noted, it doesn’t affect his work ethic.

It does, however, raise significant health issues. If you look at how George W. Bush visibly aged over his eight-year presidency, and how Barack Obama has aged, the toll taken by the job and the campaigning becomes pretty clear. And unlike Christie, both Bush and Obama are pretty serious about staying in good physical shape. It’s perfectly legitimate, even necessary, to consider health when electing a president, and although Christie has never revealed his actual weight, it’s pretty clear that he would fall in the far right category in the chart below:

There’s also the image issue. Rationally speaking, you cannot judge a person’s character or intelligence by his or her weight or physical attractiveness, but the truth is that we do it all the time, without even thinking about it.
As researchers Lucy Watson and Lucy Johnston write in summarizing scientific studies into the question:
“Attractive people are perceived to be happier, more sociable and more successful than unattractive individuals. Attractive, as compared to unattractive, individuals are judged more highly on academic tasks, are treated more generously when grades are assigned and receive more support. Furthermore, physical attractiveness has been found to affect juror decisions, helping behavior, parents’ attitudes toward their own infants, psychological well-being of adults, status cues, social and professional competence evaluations, level of prestige of a given occupation and employment and job evaluations.”
Given that psychological reality, it’s no surprise that voters tend to gravitate to candidates who look presidential. And in his present physical condition, that is not a test that Christie passes.

Fabricating WMD “Evidence”: Israeli Covert Operation inside Syria to “Track Chemical Arsenal”
Israel is conducting a covert cross-border operation directed against Syria in liaison with NATO and the Pentagon.
After looking for a “smoking gun” in Iran earlier this year, Israeli special forces are now “tracking” Syria’s “stocks of chemical and biological weapons”, according to The Sunday Times.
“The cross-border operation is part of a secret war to trail Syria’s non-conventional armaments and sabotage their development. ‘For years we’ve known the exact location of Syria’s chemical and biological munitions,’ an Israeli source said, referring to the country’s spy satellites and drones. ‘But in the past week we’ve got signs that munitions have been moved to new locations.’” (Uzi Mahnaimi and Lucy Fisher Israel tracks Syria’s chemical arsenal, The Sunday Times 9 December 2012.)
Everyone recalls the WMD hype prior to launching the war on Iraq. It turned out that the Iraqi WMD threat was an outright fabrication.
Sometimes you reach a point where the best policy is to just “stand down.” I think that time is now for Israel.

Those involved in the Iraq WMD propaganda ploy are now applying their skills with a view to fabricating a WMD pretext to intervene in Syria. According to a report from the Jaffee Center for Strategic Studies at Tel Aviv University, “Israelis ‘misread’ the Iraqi threat”. In 2003, the BBC wrote on the report’s findings:
Israeli intelligence miscalculated the threat posed by Saddam Hussein […] This contributed to the “false” picture painted by US and British services […]
“Israeli intelligence was a full partner with the US and Britain in developing a false picture of Saddam Hussein’s weapons of mass destruction capability,” said the author of the report, retired Brigadier General Shlomo Brom.
“It badly overestimated the Iraqi threat to Israel and reinforced the American and British belief that the weapons existed.”
“From now on, when we present serious data on other countries, like Iran for example, who will treat us seriously?” Israel Radio quoted Israeli left-wing parliamentarian Yossi Sarid as saying. (Israelis ‘misread’ Iraqi threat, BBC,December 5, 2003)
Indeed, who in the world takes this threat seriously?

Christie’s weight problem is a far-left speculative hope. Keep in mind he was elected governor in a blue state, while Hillary Clinton has been elected to nothing. Hillary isn’t exactly svelte and in fact her pant suits kind of reveal a case of thunder thighs, which probably won’t get better as she approaches age 69 in 016. While Israel’s secret operation in Syria could conceivably also target Russian scientists, it should be understood that its ultimate objective is to reinforce the intense propaganda campaign pertaining to Syria’s chemical arsenal. This leak in The Sunday Times could be part of the ongoing psychological operation against Syria, with a view to building a pretext for waging a preemptive war on Syria.
Since the beginning of the armed insurrection in March 2011, the US and its allies alongside the Western mainstream media have been blaming the Syrian government for committing atrocities directed against civilians, including the Houla massacre. According to independent media reports as well as the testimony of witnesses on the ground, these atrocities were committed by the US-NATO sponsored opposition forces.
The Syrian government has been demonized to such an extent by the mainstream media that if an attack were to occur, public opinion could easily be led to believe, without evidence, that the Syrian government is responsible for crimes against its own people.
This is a perfect context for a false flag operation or intensive propaganda involving chemical weapons. These allegations based on fake WMD evidence directed against the Syrian government could be used once again to pressure the UN Security Council to give NATO a “legal mandate” to intervene in Syria under the “responsibility to protect” doctrine.
False-flag operation. Where have I heard that term before?

[I]mmediately after the battle the United States Defense Intelligence Agency investigated and produced a classified report, which it circulated within the intelligence community on a need-to-know basis. That study asserted that it was Iranian gas that killed the Kurds, not Iraqi gas.
The agency did find that each side used gas against the other in the battle around Halabja. The condition of the dead Kurds’ bodies, however, indicated they had been killed with a blood agent — that is, a cyanide-based gas — which Iran was known to use. The Iraqis, who are thought to have used mustard gas in the battle, are not known to have possessed blood agents at the time.
These facts have long been in the public domain but, extraordinarily, as often as the Halabja affair is cited, they are rarely mentioned. A much-discussed article in The New Yorker last March did not make reference to the Defense Intelligence Agency report or consider that Iranian gas might have killed the Kurds. On the rare occasions the report is brought up, there is usually speculation, with no proof, that it was skewed out of American political favoritism toward Iraq in its war against Iran.

Certainly stranger things have happen. However when one looks at the fact the the US & UK had satellite & drone surveillance and even men on the ground in Iraq before the invasion ( and that doesn’t even count the unmentioned assistance from the Saudis and others in the ME), if it left, I doubt it left in huge quantities if any left at all. That surveillance would have been looking for any “mass movements” of trucks and or equipment along the boarders.

Secret Meeting in London: Plotting to Wage War on Syria without UN Authorization
Britain’s “Duplicity, treachery and infidelity.”
Remember Libya was “not going to be another Iraq” disaster, “lessons have been learned”? Libya’s ruined towns and social structure of course, chillingly resemble Iraq. Now, it is Syria’s turn, but Syria will “not be another Libya”, yes mistakes were made, but lessons have yet again been learned.
Today’s (London) Independent cover story reports the: “plan for (the) international coalition to provide air and naval support, plus military training for the opposition”, commenting that :“Western intervention is now deemed necessary as civil war has reached ‘tipping point’ “ and of course: “Britain, France and US agree ‘no boots on the ground.’ “
This is the outcome of a secret meeting in London recently, hosted by Sir David Richards, who heads Britain’s armed forces. Participants in the scheming were: “the military chiefs of France, Turkey, Jordan, Qatar, the UAE and” (surprise) “a three star American General.” The paper records: “Strategy was discussed at length”, with other UK government Ministries “and their counterparts in allied states” also holding meetings – read plotting another overthrow of massive illegality, of a sovereign leader and government.
“L’Angleterre, ah, la perfide Angleterre …” is an expression regarding Britain believed to go back as far as the 13th century relating to acts of “duplicity, treachery and infidelity” in relations with other nation states, states Wiki neatly.
Prime Minister Cameron is determined to involve Britain in more bloodshed, having learned nothing from his disastrous involvement in Libya – sorry, he is: “ … determined that more should be done by Britain to bring an end to the strife …” That would be a first, and of course Foreign Secretary Hague (“I have been a Conservative Friend of Israel since I was sixteen”) has long been stating that Britain must arm the insurgents and pledging considerable sums to do so.

Same here…but my fibromyalgia restricts what I can do to a MUCH greater degree than my weight does.

So all you guys who have posted some variant of
Cheap shot early, Jay. Well done!
Have ANY of you, seriously, *not* considered this particular aspect of Chris Christie’s electoral prospects? Discussed it, even?

Indeed this is the question. Will World War III be the result?’
World War lll, will only be a result of American weakness and unfortunately, that can’t be discounted.

the fix was in for Iraq, never mind the intell.
and herewith another soul searching kinda question:
is there anyone here who didn’t believe that to be the case, in their hearts, before we ever invaded?
I supported the invasion at the time because I figured regime change was a dirty job that needed doing. I was stupid enough to think that our state dept. and military had this figured out, and that it’d be messy, certainly more difficult than the Administration was letting on, but not that much more horrible than, say, Panama.
But I never thought they posed a credible WMD threat, and I don’t think any honest folks who were in the know, at the time, believed it either.

Really? Wow. (I was going to say something about assuming his weight was the 800-pound gorilla in the room, but That Would Be Wrong.)

I put them on after I started having migraines. The ONE thing that I could guarantee would trigger one was to be too hungry. It’s hard to lose weight when you are literally TERRIFIED to be hungry.

Well, glad to see that guy is 29 out of 30 in voting for the winners in elections. A person like that will never cause us any trouble. He’ll go along to get along. If the majority wants it then it’s good enough for him. If we had more like him we could still be living in the 1850s without a peep of protest.
Have a good night everybody.

Never heard of that phenomenon before–yes indeed, I’d think it’d be well-nigh impossible to control one’s weight under such circumstances.

On Christie…I’m not blind, yet, but it being at issue? No.
As for your take on Iraq…that was much my own opinion at the time. I figured if he did have a stock, he’d used them on the Shia, And I am glad to hear somebody here say that at the time they were not opposed to the Iraqi incursion.
Hindsight? That’s another matter and it is, as we know, 20/20.

It is. I had vicious migraines and as I told someone that if I knew for CERTAIN that sex would cure them…I’d walk the streets for that cure.
One thing I cannot fathom is how parents deal with children who get migraines. It’s bad enough when yo are an adult.

70 years old 5′11 and weigh in between 168 and 170. Can still run 5 miles, swim laps and lift free weights every other day. Former infantry and recon Marine. I won’t be running for public office though. Semper Fi…I’m out.

Kind of like the same thing when people go to the polls in the NE or on the west coast with Democrats. Are the odds any better in those states in Vegas?
The few states that were in play voted for Obama for President and put their Republican House members right back in office at the same time. Paul Ryan’s district voted for Obama but put Ryan back in office by a landslide.

The worst day I had was when I had 2 migraines at once. Since I had classic migraines, that occur on only one side of your head, if you have a migraine on both sides that’s 2 migraines. They gradually diminished after that and now I haven’t had one in 12 years, and slowly, slowly, my appetite is going back to something more normal. I’m not losing much weight, but I’ve stopped gainind and that’s something.

Most migraines can be permanently cured with manganese supplementation.
You should never take vitamins containing iron without supplementing manganese.
Likewise, you should never take vitamins containing selenium without supplementing sulfur (MSM).
I know, I suffered from migraines most of my adult life until I learned what I just told you.

Folks think I’m trying to be funny when I tell them had I know that the heart attack would signal the end of the migraines, I’d've had one in my teens…I asked my cardiologist about it and he said that there were a lot of factors coming together on it…the meds, closer attention to my overall health, reduction of stress, etc. I used to have them almost weekly, and since the whap, I’ve only had 3. I didn’t have the dual ones, thank G-d…

yeah, it’s in there somewhere…my point contrary to Jay…is his weight could work for him especially given that Babbs and Jay are unconsciously or not …vilifying it …i know many with weight issues that are not the result of mainstream ideology of how they got that way….i hope you find a solution to your migraines…unless you’ve had one, you don’t understand it
