Speaker Tom Price? (Almost) certainly not

tomprice

House Speaker Tom Price, R-Ga.?

Heaven help us, and the Republican Party, should that come to pass. Such a development would produce a mess that would make Congress of the last two years seem like a smoothly functioning machine by comparison.

Yet according to Robert Costa, writing in National Review:

“Should a debt deal go sour, the buzz is that Tom Price, a 58-year-old physician from Georgia, may challenge John Boehner for the speaker’s gavel.

“Price is the person we’re all watching,” says an aide close to House leadership. “We know he’s frustrated, but we don’t know much else.”

Would Price really make a bid to unseat Boehner? And if so, could he win? (In response to the Costa piece, Price’s spokesperson now says the congressman “is not running for speaker,” which is interesting for a couple of reasons. One is its use of present tense rather than future tense; i.e. “is not running” vs. “will not run.” Nobody suggested that he “is” running. And in an interview with Costa earlier, Price himself had apparently refused to confirm or deny a possible challenge. That would have been the time to stop the rumor dead, had he wanted to do so.)

As I noted in my previous post, former Speaker Newt Gingrich estimates that a budget deal will require 120-140 Democratic votes to pass the House. In other words, Gingrich believes that more than half the Republicans will buck their leadership and refuse to vote for a final deal, which strikes me as a pretty accurate assessment.

The question is, will that be enough? Will conservative congressional Republicans be satisfied by casting personal votes of “no” against tax hikes, even as the hikes themselves go on to become law with the help of GOP leadership? Or, driven by an apoplectic right-wing blogosphere and a media-entertainment industry that thrives on conflict, will they whip themselves into such a frenzy that they demand the head of the man who cut the deal? In this kind of environment, talk of a challenge to Boehner was inevitable, if for no other reason than to keep the speaker on a short leash.

It also makes sense that the talk would center around Price, a conservative who represents the same congressional district once represented by Gingrich. Last month, Price was defeated in his bid for a House leadership post, losing narrowly to a more moderate candidate tacitly backed by Boehner. But he remains ambitious, and is also eying a potential primary challenge to U.S. Sen. Saxby Chambliss in 2014.

Even if Price lost a challenge to Boehner, the effort itself would establish his conservative credentials to a larger audience and increase his stature for a run against Chambliss. In fact, with the impending departure of Jim DeMint from the Senate, challenging and losing to Boehner over an issue of principle might make Price the leading congressional champion of the Tea Party wing of the GOP. If conservative anger at Boehner gets strong enough, it’s hard to see a downside for Price trying to unseat him.

And if Price won? It would be almost suicidal for the Republicans. Throwing Boehner overboard would cement the party’s reputation as radical and uncompromising. The base might like that fine; the mainstream voter would not. In addition, Price is a pretty grim and confrontational personality, the sort that would not wear well in the public spotlight. If Boehner’s grip on power were seriously endangered, you would probably see Price nudged aside in favor of someone like Paul Ryan.

So yes, a challenge to Boehner by Price is feasible, depending on circumstances. A successful challenge by Price is much less feasible. And a challenge to Chambliss is the most feasible of all. Because clearly, this is a congressman who sees himself going places.

It doesn’t matter who is speaker..and I don’t think you qualify to recommend strategy to you villians…despite the mind-boggling amount of free material that particular brand of dope provides your rants daily.

The dopes on the right should give the dopes on the left everything they want…or nothing at all. The former will provide meaningful measures of how well your hero’s financial acumen is valid. The DEMS will sink or swim in their own doings. The latter is best course..things are never as good or bad as they seem and this cliff jumping will not result in the dramatic, overblown and posture providing outcomes we hear…

If GOP had stones, they’d give BO everything he wants…new spending, no meaningful cuts, heck double the 80 bln a year additional tax levied on “rich”….in two years, it is highly likely that we will be deeper in the pit of despair, say 1.5 trillion continued deficit, 18-20 trillion debt, and the like…GOP should give it up and focus on fixing it’s brand…if that is possible…boner, price, it doesn’t matter..

“former Speaker Newt Gingrich estimates that a budget deal will require 120-140 Democratic votes to pass the House”

For that to happen Boehner would have to agree to massive taxes increases in return for some vague promise to reduce some spending some where at some time to be determined.

If that happens, he should be fired as Speaker. Price would be a good choice…

Price is not running. Depends on what the meaning of the word is is? I guess we’ll have to wait and see what happens with the speaker’s line of succession (and secession?). Cut spending? Compromise? I wonder what the details will be? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Yeah. But this Fiscal Cluft. I mean, I don’t know if I can wait to find out what’s gonna happen. Maybe if there was a blog that like just speculated and chewed the cud over and over till the ruminations and fulminations just overpowered my will and I could just surrender to the Fiscal Cloft!! but no, I guess I’ll just have to wait and see what the announcement is when they announce. BUT….. maybe Obama will LIE! Maybe Boehner will LIE TOO!! I don’t know. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see what happens when they announce the pistol cliff to see if anyone lied. Ah, but it’s gonna be great, folks, when they announce, and then we’ll know all the details. Yeah.

Sinkwich,
here’s an analysis of the “Goddamn America” speech …read it…

the “God Damn America” sermon.

Wright’s scriptural focus was Luke 19:37-44 (reading from the New Revised Standard Version).

In this sermon, Wright spoke about the military rule during biblical days, led by Pontius Pilate. It was clear, through his language, such as “occupying military brigade” that he was making an analogy to the war in Iraq.

“War does not make for peace,” he said. “Fighting for peace is like raping for virginity.”

“War does not make for peace. War only makes for escalating violence and a mindset to pay the enemy back by any means necessary,” he said.

He then gets to the thesis of his sermon, saying, “y’all looking to the government for only what God can give. A lot of people confuse God with their government.”

Wright criticizes the Bush administration and its supporters for using Godly language to justify the war in Iraq. He equates using God in America as condoning the war in Iraq to the same perspective of Islamic fundamentalists.

“We can see clearly the confusion in the mind of a few Muslims, and please notice I did not say all Muslims, I said a few Muslims, who see Allah as condoning killing and killing any and all who don’t believe what they don’t believe. They call it jihad. We can see clearly the confusion in their minds, but we cannot see clearly what it is that we do. We call it crusade when we turn right around and say that our God condones the killing of innocent civilians as a necessary means to an end. WE say that God understand collateral damage. We say that God knows how to forgive friendly fire.”

“We say that God will bless the shock and awe as we take over unilaterally another country, calling it a coalition because we’ve got three guys from Australia, going against the United Nations, going against the majority of Christians, Muslims and Jews throughout the world, making a pre-emptive strike in the name of God. We cannot see how what we are doing is the same thing that Al-Qaeda is doing under a different color flag – calling on the name of a different God to sanction and approve our murder and our mayhem.”

He continues on his thesis of equating government with our God, saying that God sent the early settlers to America to take the country from Native Americans; ordained slavery; and that “we believe that God approves of 6 percent of the people on the face of this earth controlling all of the wealth on the face of this earth while the other 94 percent live in poverty and squalor while we give millions of tax breaks to the white rich.”

He also criticizes the “lily white” G-7 nations for controlling the world’s capital.

Then Wright speaks to:

1. Governments lie.

“This government lied about their belief that all men were created equal. The truth is they believed that all white men were created equal. The truth is they did not even believe that white women were created equal, in creation nor civilization. The government had to pass an amendment to the Constitution to get white women the vote. Then the government had to pass an equal rights amendment to get equal protection under the law for women. The government still thinks a woman has no rights over her own body, and between Uncle Clarence (Thomas), who sexually harassed Anita Hill, and a closeted Klan court, that is a throwback to the 19th century, handpicked by Daddy Bush, Ronald Reagan, Gerald Ford, between Clarence and that stacked court, they are about to un-do Roe vs. Wade, just like they are about to un-do affirmative action. The government lied in its founding documents and the government is still lying today. Governments lie.”

“The government lied about Pearl Harbor. They knew the Japanese were going to attack. Governments lie. The government lied about the Gulf of Tonkin. They wanted that resolution to get us in the Vietnam War. Governments lie. The government lied about Nelson Mandela and our CIA helped put him in prison and keep him there for 27 years. The South African government lied on Nelson Mandela. Governments lie.”

“The government lied about the Tuskegee experiment. They purposely infected African American men with syphilis. Governments lie. The government lied about bombing Cambodia and Richard Nixon stood in front of the camera, ‘Let me make myself perfectly clear…’ Governments lie. The government lied about the drugs for arms Contra scheme orchestrated by Oliver North, and then the government pardoned all the perpetrators so they could get better jobs in the government. Governments lie.”

“The government lied about inventing the HIV virus as a means of genocide against people of color. Governments lie. The government lied about a connection between Al Qaeda and Saddam Hussein and a connection between 9.11.01 and Operation Iraqi Freedom. Governments lie.”

“The government lied about weapons of mass destruction in Iraq being a threat to the United States peace. And guess what else? If they don’t find them some weapons of mass destruction, they gonna do just like the LAPD, and plant the some weapons of mass destruction. Governments lie.”

2. Governments change. He said long before the United States colonized the world, so did Egypt.

“All colonizers are not white. Turn to your neighbors and say that oppressors come in all colors.”

He then went back to the Bible and spoke about the changing of kings in Babylonia.

“Prior to Abraham Lincoln, the government in this country said it was legal to hold African in slavery in perpetuity…when Lincoln got in office, the government changed. Prior to the passing of the 13th, 14th and 15th amendments to the Constitution, government defined African as slaves, as property. Property, people with no rights to be respected by any whites anywhere. The Supreme Court of the government, same court, granddaddy of the court that stole the 2000 election. Supreme court said in it’s Dred Scott decision in the 1850s, no African anywhere in this country has any rights that any white person has to respect at any place, any time. That was the government’s official position backed up by the Supreme Court – that’s the judiciary; backed up by the executive branch – that’s the president; backed up by the legislative branch and enforced by the military of the government. But I stop by to tell you tonight that government’s change.”

“Prior to Harry Truman’s government, the military was segregated. But governments change.”

“Prior to the Civil Rights and equal accommodation laws of the government in this country, there was backed segregation by the country, legal discrimination by the government, prohibited blacks from voting by the government, you had to eat and sit in separate places by the government, you had sit in different places from white folks because the government said so, and you had to buried in a separate cemetery. It was apartheid, American style, from the cradle to the grave, all because the government backed it up.”

“But guess what? Governments change. Under Bill Clinton, we got a messed up welfare to work bill, but under Clinton blacks had an intelligent friend in the Oval Office. Oh, but governments change.”

“The election was stolen. We went from an intelligent friend to a dumb Dixiecrat. A rich Republican who has never held a job in his life; is against affirmative action (and) against education – I guess he is; against healthcare, against benefits for his own military, and gives tax breaks to the wealthiest contributors to his campaign. Governments change. Sometimes for the good, and sometimes for the bad.”

“Where governments change, God does not change. God is the same yesterday, today and forever more. That’s what his name I Am means. He does not change.”

“God was against slavery on yesterday, and God, who does not change, is still against slavery today. God was a God of love yesterday, and God who does not change, is still a God of love today. God was a God of justice on yesterday, and God who does not change, is still a God of justice today.”

“God does not change.”

3. He then speaks of the government in his Bible text and said the Romans failed. Then he said the British government failed even after it colonized the world. He said the Russian government failed. The Japanese government failed. The German government failed.

“And the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian descent, she failed. She put them on reservations.”

“When it came to putting her citizens of Japanese descent fairly, she failed. She put them in interment prison camps.”

“When it came to putting the citizens of African descent fairly, America failed. She put them in chains. The government put them on slave quarters. Put them on auction blocks. Put them in cotton fields. Put them in inferior schools. Put them in substandard housing. Put them scientific experiments. Put them in the lower paying jobs. Put them outside the equal protection of the law. Kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education, and locked them into positions of hopelessness and helplessness.”

“The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three strike law and then wants us to sing God Bless America. Naw, naw, naw. Not God Bless America. God Damn America! That’s in the Bible. For killing innocent people. God Damn America for treating us citizens as less than human. God Damn America as long as she tries to act like she is God and she is Supreme.”

“The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent. Think about this. Think about this. For every one Oprah, a billionaire, you’ve got 5 million blacks that are out of work. For every one Colin Powell, a millionaire, you’ve got 10 million blacks who cannot read. For every one Condi-Skeezer Rice, you’ve got 1 million in prison. For every one Tiger Woods, who needs to get beat at the Masters, with his Cablanasian hips, playing on a course that discriminates against women, God has this way of brining you up short when you get to big for your Cablanasian britches. For every one Tiger Woods, we’ve got 10,000 black kids who will never see a golf course. The United States government has failed the vast majority of her citizens of African descent.”

“Tell your neighbor he’s (going to) help us one last time. Turn back and say forgive him for the God Damn, that’s in the Bible though. Blessings and curses is in the Bible. It’s in the Bible.

“Where government fail, God never fails. When God says it, it’s done. God never fails. When God wills it, you better get out the way, cause God never fails. When God fixes it, oh believe me it’s fixed. God never fails. Somebody right now, you think you can’t make it, but I want you to know that you are more than a conqueror through Christ. You can do all things through Christ who strengthens you.”

He then went on to talk about the salvation of Christians through the death of Jesus Christ. The sermon ended with a song proclaiming, “God never fails.”

Sorry, the whine about Rev. Wright from a party that would secede from the United States because they lost an election is just a lot of bs. The GOP has lost any claim (as false as it was) that they are somehow “real ‘mericans”. They have shown that they are not. And their leaders are too lame to even call for a stop to the secessionists.

Fred (not trade marked yet) – I take offense to that remark – not a Repub nor a Dem – did not vote “W” or Obama – they are both FISCAL liberals – I am a FISCAL conservative. We need TERM LIMITS for Congress to get rid of the lobbyist’s influence that breeds party loyalty over loyalty for the survival of the USA. We need a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution because voters, supporting both parties, are more concerned about what they get from the gub’ment rather than what JFK said” What they can do for their country”.. Today JFK would be a fiscal conservative and would not have a chance in the far left of center socialist controlled Dem Party.

Why you gotta lie Jay? I’m quite capable AND willing to handle insults and insulters myself. YOU however get your panties in a wad when I do. When I ask you to handle it, you are an ass about it quite frankly. Make up your mind please. I don’t need your poorly veiled insults more than I need indigo’s. it’s your blog, you want to be the bully boy then that’s your choice isn’t it. You want to ban me, that’s your choice. You ant to insult me and expect me to put up with it, wrong answer pal. Use the same standards for everyone.

However you were called out last night by several other IMPARTIAL folks on your actions towards me, so don’t blame me for that. I was at supper and having a family night. I went back about thirty minutes ago on someones advise and checked them out.

I can handle indigo, little Del and all the other small minded folks all by myself, I have my whole life. However, when I try NOT to do it myself, it seems you fell a need to threaten me or like just now, insult me. I’m nobodies damn “victim.” A victim is someone powerless over the course of their life and you talk to anyone who knows me and that sure as hell ain’t me.

I would politely invite you to BITE ME, but I’m not allowed to invite folks, make suppositions on the reasons for their irrational actions and posts, or even it may come to pass, speak out against being bullied. But I did speak out. Not a victim.

For the republicans, it is apparent from the last election that the time has come to let Obama and the leftists have their way and let the cards fall as they may. There is no way for the republicans to battle the un-ending entitlements that Obama has provided them which are just making people lazier and more dependent upon the government.Though Obama has no plan beyond “taxing the rich” for solving this country’s fiscal problems, it is time for conservatives to step aside and let him do his will because 51% of this country voted for him and apparently agree with this policies. Jay has spent many many hours supporting exactly that same belief and so have many of you so the ball is in your court now. Another words, the best advice to the republicans is do nothing; make no deal with Obama and when the time comes to vote on it the so-called “fiscal cliff” just vote “present”. That will place the entire future of what happens to this country and its children into the lap of Obama and his supporters. This is Obama’s economy now. As history has proven again and again, the ones that suffer the most from ill conceived leftist fiscal policies are the poor and the middle class and it is about to happen again. It was revealed that Google, a bigtime Obama supporter and whose CEO is a pretty much a resident at the Obama Whitehouse, is hiding billions in a taxfree offshore tax haven. How easy you liberal idiots are played for fools.

I made a bet I can not lose and you know , as well as I, that the Fed Debt won’t be ONE CENT lower than it is today – at least not in your life time (say about 30 more years?). That was my point – Obama’s promises are false. He has no plan that is workable and neither do the Repubs. This situation was caused by the people that continue to vote for big gub’ment spending programs that are unfunded – or at least under funded. I am a FISCAL conservative. Voters don’t have the back bone to reduce the debt. That is why I am for TERM LIMITS on Congress (all parties) and for a Constitutional amendment to balance the budget – similar to what we have in Georgia. Poll: Majority Wants ‘Road to Citizenship’ for Immigrants

A sizeable majority of Americans – 62 percent – support allowing illegal and undocumented immigrants to earn citizenship, compared to 35 percent who are opposed, according to a poll from Politico/George Washington University.

Among Republicans, the idea receives plurality support, with 49 percent in favor and 45 percent opposed. Democrats favor the idea 74 percent to 24 percent. And among independents, 61 percent support it, while 35 percent are opposed.

The idea of allowing children of illegal or undocumented immigrants to stay here permanently, if they complete a college degree or serve in the military —part of the DREAM Act — receives an even stronger majority of 77 percent. Only 19 percent are opposed.

Some Americans apparently don’t feel President Barack Obama has gone far enough in easing immigration rules. A total of 48 percent disapprove of his immigration policy, and 45 percent approve.

Republican pollster Ed Goeas, who helped conduct the bipartisan survey, says Republicans shouldn’t view an immigration-reform bill as a cure-all. “Immigration just gets us a seat at the table. That maybe gets them to listen to us,” he said. “It does not get us votes.” In any case, “We need to do it because it’s the right thing to do, not to get a constituency,” Goeas said.

Meanwhile, Democratic pollster Celinda Lake, who also helped on the survey, said, “The public is there for immigration reform. The Republicans are marginalizing themselves and losing Latino voters, and their own base is not even with them.”

Get_ here your proof I take it you forgot–read the NY Time
WASHINGTON — For more than a year, politicians have been fighting over whether to raise taxes on high-income people. They rarely mention that affluent Americans will soon be hit with new taxes adopted as part of the 2010 health care law.
Related

Times Topic: Health Care Reform and the Supreme Court (Affordable Care Act)

The new levies, which take effect in January, include an increase in the payroll tax on wages and a tax on investment income, including interest, dividends and capital gains. The Obama administration proposed rules to enforce both last week.

Affluent people are much more likely than low-income people to have health insurance, and now they will, in effect, help pay for coverage for many lower-income families. Among the most affluent fifth of households, those affected will see tax increases averaging $6,000 next year, economists estimate.

To help finance Medicare, employees and employers each now pay a hospital insurance tax equal to 1.45 percent on all wages. Starting in January, the health care law will require workers to pay an additional tax equal to 0.9 percent of any wages over $200,000 for single taxpayers and $250,000 for married couples filing jointly.

The new taxes on wages and investment income are expected to raise $318 billion over 10 years, or about half of all the new revenue collected under the health care law.

Ruth M. Wimer, a tax lawyer at McDermott Will & Emery, said the taxes came with “a shockingly inequitable marriage penalty.” If a single man and a single woman each earn $200,000, she said, neither would owe any additional Medicare payroll tax. But, she said, if they are married, they would owe $1,350. The extra tax is 0.9 percent of their earnings over the $250,000 threshold.

Since the creation of Social Security in the 1930s, payroll taxes have been levied on the wages of each worker as an individual. The new Medicare payroll is different. It will be imposed on the combined earnings of a married couple.

Employers are required to withhold Social Security and Medicare payroll taxes from wages paid to employees. But employers do not necessarily know how much a worker’s spouse earns and may not withhold enough to cover a couple’s Medicare tax liability. Indeed, the new rules say employers may disregard a spouse’s earnings in calculating how much to withhold.

Workers may thus owe more than the amounts withheld by their employers and may have to make up the difference when they file tax returns in April 2014. If they expect to owe additional tax, the government says, they should make estimated tax payments, starting in April 2013, or ask their employers to increase the amount withheld from each paycheck.

In the Affordable Care Act, the new tax on investment income is called an “unearned income Medicare contribution.” However, the law does not provide for the money to be deposited in a specific trust fund. It is added to the government’s general tax revenues and can be used for education, law enforcement, farm subsidies or other purposes.

Donald B. Marron Jr., the director of the Tax Policy Center, a joint venture of the Urban Institute and the Brookings Institution, said the burden of this tax would be borne by the most affluent taxpayers, with about 85 percent of the revenue coming from 1 percent of taxpayers. By contrast, the biggest potential beneficiaries of the law include people with modest incomes who will receive Medicaid coverage or federal subsidies to buy private insurance.

Wealthy people and their tax advisers are already looking for ways to minimize the impact of the investment tax — for example, by selling stocks and bonds this year to avoid the higher tax rates in 2013.

The new 3.8 percent tax applies to the net investment income of certain high-income taxpayers, those with modified adjusted gross incomes above $200,000 for single taxpayers and $250,000 for couples filing jointly.

David J. Kautter, the director of the Kogod Tax Center at American University, offered this example. In 2013, John earns $160,000, and his wife, Jane, earns $200,000. They have some investments, earn $5,000 in dividends and sell some long-held stock for a gain of $40,000, so their investment income is $45,000. They owe 3.8 percent of that amount, or $1,710, in the new investment tax. And they owe $990 in additional payroll tax.

The new tax on unearned income would come on top of other tax increases that might occur automatically next year if President Obama and Congress cannot reach an agreement in talks on the federal deficit and debt. If Congress does nothing, the tax rate on long-term capital gains, now 15 percent, will rise to 20 percent in January. Dividends will be treated as ordinary income and taxed at a maximum rate of 39.6 percent, up from the current 15 percent rate for most dividends.

Under another provision of the health care law, consumers may find it more difficult to obtain a tax break for medical expenses.

Taxpayers now can take an itemized deduction for unreimbursed medical expenses, to the extent that they exceed 7.5 percent of adjusted gross income. The health care law will increase the threshold for most taxpayers to 10 percent next year. The increase is delayed to 2017 for people 65 and older.

In addition, workers face a new $2,500 limit on the amount they can contribute to flexible spending accounts used to pay medical expenses. Such accounts can benefit workers by allowing them to pay out-of-pocket expenses with pretax money.

Taken together, this provision and the change in the medical expense deduction are expected to raise more than $40 billion of revenue over 10 years.

I would like to share a personal experience with my closest friends
about drinking and driving.

As you well know, some of us have been known to have had brushes with the
authorities on our way home from an occasional social session over the years.

A couple of nights ago, I was out for an evening with friends and had a
couple of beers and several shots.

Knowing full well I may have been way over the limit, I did something
I’ve never done before ~ I took a cab home. Sure enough, I passed a police
road block but, since it was a cab, they waved it past.

I arrived home safely without incident, which was a real surprise; as I have
never driven a cab before and am not sure where I got it or what to do
with it now that it’s in my garage.

Let me tell ya’ll a little something.

I’m sure Bro knows all about these sheninigans (sp).

One time, in band camp, they forced me to sit butt nekkid on a 50lb block of ice for about 30 minutes.

Once me bum became numb, they stood me up and place a large olive in the middle of what was left of the ice block.

I was then told I must pick up the olive with me butt cheeks, carry it across the room; and drop it into a coffee cup.

If you missed the coffee cup, you ate the olive…

Guess I’ll call it a night, but I’ll leave one for Scout and any other conservatives who are cheering on the right-to-work battle in Michigan. If, at any time beyond today, you complain about people freeloading, I will refer to you as Hypocritimus Maximus from that point on.

1) Right-to-work laws tend to weaken labor unions. This is one thing the left and right agree on. If unions are barred from requiring everyone in a workplace to pay dues, there’s a free-rider problem. Why bother sending money to my union if I’ll benefit from its bargaining regardless? Pretty soon, unions are drained of funds and can’t launch as many organizing drives or wield influence.

Anybody who’s whining about people freeloading, aka the 47%, and then cheering for people freeloading off the backs of unions and their negotiators are hypocrites of the highest order. Why won’t conservatives stick to their anti-freeloading ideals and make those who don’t join the union work for whatever wages the employer offers instead of allowing them to enjoy union benefits without paying for them? Put your actions where your rhetoric flows from for once.

Y’all have a good evening…

Medicaid Expansion: States Must Meet Obamacare Standards To Get Full Federal Funding

December 11th, 2012
5:58 am

States must expand Medicaid all the way if they want to receive full Obamacare funding, federal officials said Monday.
The health care reform law enacted in 2010 calls for Medicaid to be offered to anyone who earns up to 133 percent of the federal poverty level, which is $14,856 this year. Under the law, the federal government would pay the full cost of enrolling newly eligible people from 2014 to 2016, after which the share would gradually shrink until it reached 90 percent starting in 2022.
States have been slow to embrace this aspect of Obamacare, despite the unprecedented level of federal financing for Medicaid. Texas, South Dakota, and seven other states have said they won’t expand Medicaid. Officials in Indiana, New Mexico, Wisconsin and other states questioned whether they could offer benefits to fewer people by extending eligibility to some level of income below 133 percent of poverty.
After months of waiting for an answer about partially expanding Medicaid under health care reform, states received a simple reply from the Obama administration Monday: no. States that partially expand will not receive the enhanced funding that would come with a full expansion.

I was wrong (gasp!) Your president IS creating jobs??

December 11th, 2012

You may have noticed some economic difficulties across the country in recent years among family, friends, neighbors, colleagues. One sector is doing quite nicely, however, under Barack Hussein Obama.

In the 1,420 days since he took the oath of office, the federal government has daily hired on average 101 new employees. Every day. Seven days a week. All 202 weeks. That makes 143,000 more federal workers than when Obama talked forever on that cold day in January of 2009.

Under Obama the total federal workforce has surpassed two million for the first time since the first Clinton term, now sitting about the 2.2 ,million level.

You know before Gingrich we had McDonald being shot from the skies as our congressman in that similar district. JB Stoner offered himself for several offices before McDonald. Cobb County is like toxic waste where the liability to the country never ends.

Price is one of the fools that hold Georgia back in a long line of fools. They all work with the same material because things never get better and the blame is always the other side, yet the other side does quiet well. It is us that are uneducated, in poverty and jobless. I keep thinking Cobb County will grow itself out of this mental illness but I been thinking that for decades and it only gets worse. What is the approval rating of Congress? Hell some of the Democrats may try voting for Price it will be a bullet to the head of the Republican hold on the Congress if not the party itself, please elect him.

mornin’.

Just to tie up a few loose ends, since I’d started a sub-thread last night, in case any of those folks are milling around…

Kam @ 9.04, for starters I agree (and have argued previously) that I tend to believe Hillary won’t run for President. Circumstances can change but if I were here, I’d be more than happy to go out on an up note and retire at, you know, typical retirement age.

As for Elizabeth Warren being a candidate, obviously time will tell but in late 2012 it seems like it would be mighty risky for the DNC to roll the dice and hope that another first-term Senator could rise to the occasion. I mean, *I’m* fine with that level of elected-official experience, but that wouldn’t be the way I’d bet, is all.

Pelosi is a typical limousine librul.

That’s why folks don’t care for her particularly.

That term you use is a pretty broad (heh… get it? she’s an unapologetically brassy broad!) one. I don’t know how someone gets to be Speaker without amassing some personal success in the meantime. I don’t think anyone especially cared if Tip or Dennis had made a few shekels on the way. And if her success is supposed to be hypocritical because she’s this “flaming liberal,” again I ask–what positions has she staked, what legislation has she sponsored, that puts her in some kinda far-left category?

I’m not trying to be obtuse here, it’s similar to my inquiries about Jay’s ideology. I just don’t see it as being superduper progressive. (In Jay’s case, I’m not thrilled with how quick he was to throw labor under the bus back when the 110th Congress was trying to beef up worker’s rights–and he’s barely covered the evisceration of unions since the 2010 mid-terms.)

Similarly, I just don’t see/know of anything that Nancy Pelosi has spearheaded as Speaker that can be considered all that far-left. I mean, a public option as part of the PPACA? That all you got?

I love it how people cheer on the race to the bottom as though it’s some way of saving this country.

Bros, it’s a decades-old issue; a lot of Americans have been sold on the idea that it’s somehow smart to vote against their own interests. I think that is eroding–I don’t think the “free stuff” meme has any traction at all, nationally, and I think it’s already hurt the GOP–but it’s still painful, for example, to watch these late-hits-after-the-whistle’s-blown being inflicted in Michigan.

you know that means we’re all out burning our bras

Well, I know that’s 90% of the complaint from the right, Fear Of Teh Vajayjay, but I would hope they’d at least have something for the other 10%.

(Besides the tiresome misquote of her inartfully expressed business about needing to pass legislation so that Americans could comprehend its utility; that’s not “left-wing,” any legislator from any part of the ideological spectrum could have said the same words.)

By the way, speaking of burnt bras, I heard where that expression actually came from awhile back. I’d always imagined women waving around gasoline-soaked torpedo-bras and flinging them at Archie Bunker types in the early 70s (wouldn’t that have been cool?)–but in fact, well…

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=94240375

As a small group of feminists prepared to launch their emerging women’s liberation movement onto the national stage by protesting the 1968 Miss America pageant, they had no idea that the media was about to give them a new moniker: “bra burners.”

In reality, no bras were actually burned on the boardwalk in front of the Atlantic City convention hall that hosted the Miss America pageant, says Carol Hanisch, one of the organizers of the protest.

“We had intended to burn it, but the police department, since we were on the boardwalk, wouldn’t let us do the burning,” says Hanisch. A New York Post story on the protest included a reference to bra burning as a way to link the movement to war protesters burning draft cards.

Women threw bras, mops, girdles, pots and pans, and Playboy magazines — items they called “instruments of female torture” — into a big garbage can.

“The media picked up on the bra part,” Hanisch says. “I often say that if they had called us ‘girdle burners,’ every woman in America would have run to join us.”

So, now y’all know.

“…keep thinking Cobb County will grow itself out of this mental illness”

Ever notice how the most powerful congressMEN come from district with a military base or major defense contractor. Makes you wonder how much control the contractors have over elections. For Cobb, the solution might be to convince Washington to turn over Dobbins and let the state make it a second airport. There would be maybe 12 gates with major city destinations.
