What does it sound like when bullies discover that they’re losing a fight that they started, one that they’re likely to keep losing for the foreseeable future?
It sounds very much like this:
Unless he takes a more bipartisan approach to fiscal cliff negotiations, President Barack Obama “guarantees a permanent war” between Democrats and Republicans, former House Speaker Newt Gingrich predicted Sunday.
“He wants to prove he can dominate,” Gingrich said on NBC’s “Meet the Press,” adding that on fiscal cliff negotiations, Obama aims not to compromise, but to “block [House Speaker John] Boehner into collapse.”
Why the prediction of an endless partisan fight? “Because everybody on the right, at every level, sooner or later is going to get sick of it,” Gingrich said.
Correct me if I’m wrong — some will try to correct me though I’m right — but didn’t the Republicans start this all-out, scorched-earth permanent war thing? Wasn’t this whole thing their idea in the first place?
And now they beg for compromise?
It was almost exactly two years ago to the day that Speaker John Boehner made it clear that there would be no compromise in Washington. “I am not going to compromise my principles nor will I compromise the will of the American people,” he told Judy Woodruff of “60 Minutes”.
“You’re afraid of the word?” Woodruff asked.
“I reject the word,” the new speaker said.
Whatever his other failings, Gingrich knows first-hand the realities of being speaker. He knows what it’s like to have go searching for votes. So when he predicts, as he did Sunday, that “if Boehner works out an agreement with President Obama, it has to be an agreement that brings 120 or 140 House Democrats,” that tells you an awful lot.
A House majority requires 218 votes. If Boehner needs 120 to 140 Democrats to support an eventual deal, it means that close to two-thirds of his own party will probably be voting against the deal that he agrees to support. It means that Nancy Pelosi will have a lot to say about what that final package contains. And it means that the House GOP caucus will afterward find itself split between those RINOs who voted for the deal, and those hardliners who voted against it, with Boehner among those who supported it.
“(Boehner) can be the speaker of a block of Republicans working with Democrats or he can be the speaker of the hard right fighting the Democrats,” Gingrich said. “There’s no middle ground here. He will not carry the hard right for any deal.”
Again, this is a confrontation that congressional Republicans have wanted for years. They plotted and strategized to create just this opportunity, never imagining that when the moment came, they would be the ones pleading for compromise and a bit of political mercy.
And it doesn’t get any better in the immediate future. Next on the agenda when Congress returns?
Immigration reform, with Democrats pressing for a path to citizenship and Republicans again split between those who recognize the political and moral necessity of such a step, and those who, like Boehner two years ago, still reject the word “compromise”.

That’s pretty sick even for you…
Once you’ve chuckled at a “Pray for Obama” bumper sticker, I guess it’s all downhill.
http://content.usatoday.com/communities/Religion/post/2009/11/bumper-stickers-for-psalm-1098—-a-wrong-hearted-prayer-for-obama/1#.UMYccazhd8E
In the New International Version translations, that verse reads;
May his days be few; may another take his place of leadership.
Aha! So, they’re praying for Obama’s tenure to be a short one. Fair enough. But what does that really mean?
A clue may be in the verses of the 109th Psalm that follow verse 8:
May his children be fatherless and his wife a widow.
May his children be wandering beggars; may they be driven from their ruined homes.
May a creditor seize all he has; may strangers plunder the fruits of his labor.
May no one extend kindness to him or take pity on his fatherless children.
May his descendants be cut off, their names blotted out from the next generation.
May the iniquity of his fathers be remembered before the Lord; may the sin of his mother never be blotted out.
May their sins always remain before the Lord, that he may cut off the memory of them from the earth.
In that context, are these folks actually urging us to pray for Obama’s death?
yes. THBAEOSATSQ.

You missed the joke. It was a direct quote of a prediction you made about the election last month.
You were posting slogans for bumper stickers, so I gave you a suggestion: “Reagan / Carter”. You countered with you protected them. So I said that a bumper sticker could serve as two reminders for you: protection and prediction

Newt Gotrich started this fight many years ago. He’s the reason the Dem’s and the Repub’s are at war with one another. He embraced the the Religious Right to further his cause and that brought in the Extremist’s to the Republican party. Republicans have been slowly going down hill as a party since. We’ve all seen what Republican policies have done to this country and the American people. Those policies have not worked for the majority of the American people and must end.

It’s one billion, not three, I believe. And that’s pretty consistent with what we’ve given Egypt in aid yearly in recent decades. Nothing new.
It buys essentially a continuation of the status quo with Israel, oh and priority access to Egyptian airspace and the Suez Canal, which is kinda sweet when you think of it.

I’m one of those fools who thought our “morality” might know this as well, but could provide some (laughable) information about a new commitment being made directly to the Muslim Brotherhood.

Erwin’s cat: “f it’s the system and not the individual.. then how come we all aren’t wealthy?”
Many factors, but one of them being gaping chasms in wealth and opportunity between wealthy and less affluent. That’s far far more important than natural ability.
“We all have access to the same infrastructure etc that paved the way for these “takers””
No we don’t.
I do not have the same access to patent protections and other benefits of government as a wealthy capitalist like Bill Gates or the Google owners or the Koch brothers, or just of corporations in general. We’re talking about gigantic imbalances here.

JKL2: “What happens when the rich only make enough money to cover 8% of your deficit? (we won’t even go into talking about debt). Wh owes then?”
Why should anybody cry about them when they’re the ones, with their political agents, who have run up the deficit in the first place with their wars and their bailouts of big banks to cover themselves after they blew up the system.
Tell me again, why should I hesitate to ask these people to put back in something of what they’ve parasitically skimmed off?

yes, you do…I just filed a provisional patent a few weeks ago for a couple hundred bucks. Bill Gates started in his garage as did Jobs, Google is publicly traded…what’s your excuse?

I don’t want a patent so I can hoard my own benefits and hang others out to dry in a rigged game. Instead, I’d rather agitate and build a world founded on economic justice. Plus, I don’t like garages.
“I just filed a provisional patent a few weeks ago for a couple hundred bucks”
Good luck with that.

“. . and I was trying to square that with what I recall you saying about computers being used in elections previously. P’raps you could elaborate a bit so I could understand better where you’re coming from, please?”
Using computer to set district lines has nothing to do with using computer in actual elections. How a computer sets district lines is easily checked by anyone who cares enough TO check. Using them in elections is too fraught with the possiblity of fraud that CANNOT be checked independently.

luck has nothing to do with it, I’ve got a couple dozen already awarded.
A patent won’t make you rich, or even make it a good idea, it just protects one from being robbed of an idea.

So BRO, you are suggesting that forcing business to hire regardless of need, despite the little conflict with shareholders, is some sort of answer.? It’s all the fault of big business hoarding cash?
Couldn’t disagree more…first, big business has no obligation to employ folks unless margin exists. So if I have small shop, you’d somehow require me to hire someone who will have nothing to do?
Business serves shareholders…and whatever you suggests they did wrong to contribute to this crap was available due only to the purchased government…congress allows this to happen..they need the money..
Again, if you are suggesting forcing business’ to create jobs, how this wouldn’t further deteriorate an already rotten situation (it’s not getting better) is something I need your help to explain..

You have to be so careful with patents and trademarks. The Chinese don’t respect them. The internet will devour you. It’s gotten to where I don’t want to create anything anymore. The only reason PST made money is because nobody and I mean nobody can do that dance. Ever try it? It’s impossible.
