Jim DeMint, Tea Party champion, leaving Senate

South Carolina Sen. Jim DeMint, probably the most influential Tea Party advocate in Congress, is resigning his seat to become head of the conservative Heritage Foundation.

DeMint’s term was to have expired in 2016. The vacancy will be filled through appointment by South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley, with a special election held in 2014. That’s the same cycle in which South Carolina’s other senator, Lindsey Graham, will be seeking re-election, which makes it less likely that Graham will face a stern primary challenger.

Just under seven months after Obama had been sworn in as President… well, let’s allow DeMint to speak for himself.

http://www.politico.com/blogs/bensmith/0709/Health_reform_foes_plan_Obamas_Waterloo.html

“Senators and Congressmen will come back in September afraid to vote against the American people,” DeMint predicted, adding that “this health care issue Is D-Day for freedom in America.”

“If we’re able to stop Obama on this it will be his Waterloo. It will break him,” he said.

Looks like someone got broken, and it wasn’t Obama.

Enjoy your dotage on Heritage’s payroll, Jim.

Let’s poll the DEM-wits and REP-ugants in the 98%, of which, 50% pay no income tax, and ask them if the rich should pay more taxes. As Barney Fife would say, suuuurrrrpise, suuuurrrrprise;the underachievers think the rich should pay more to help pay for their every increasing appetite for entitlements. I am blown away, who would have seen that coming. I thought that colege kids, blue hairs, union thugs/thugettes, wall street protesters, folks recieving welfare and food stamps, ie Obozo supporters would have said, please tax me more and let the rich slide. Lets go over the cliff and poll that same group to see if they think the rich are hurting more or less than their families. I bet we get another shocking poll result.

McConnell’s desperate to get the spotlight off Congressional Republicans’ refusal to vote on the measure under consideration in the House. The only way the GOP can do that is by putting something *else* up for a vote and putting other business on hold. That’s what McConnell is doing.

The GOP doesn’t *have* any competing proposals right now, so they’re trying to make Democratic proposals look foolish by attaching them to bills that have nothing whatsoever to do with them, then forcing a vote. Okay, I’ll play.

Pres Obama ran on increasing the marginal rates for those making over $250k a year. He laid out specifics on what the percentage increases would be.

Republicans ran on cutting the deficit.

So okay…. what, specifically did Republicans propose to cut? (note: saying ‘we’ll cut a hundred million from… waste… and we’ll cut something…. from medicaid…. and we’ll cut… somewhere in Commerce’) is not exactly ’specific.’

I’ll turn that one around. What specifically have the Dems offered to cut? Same answer to your question…Nothing. It’s proven over and over again, taxing the “rich” is only a drop in the bucket.
Go ahead, tax ‘em. What next? It’s not going to accomplish anything except make the Obamabots feel that they are “paying their fair share.” It will do nothing to decrease the deficit or boost the economy.

Are you taking the position there are no significant savings to be had in Defense?

Brosephus – common ground – that is what I have been saying – it will take a 3rd party that is not bought and sold – one that is loyal to the USA and is not a PARTY loyalist. Dems & Repubs at the top are more loyal to their party than the FISCAL survival of the USA. Today’s politicians number one objective is to get reelected. We need a balanced budget amendment to the Constitution and TERM LIMITS in Congress.

No disagreement with me on that one. I’m just hoping you’re not one of those claiming that Obama and the Dems are not fiscally responsible and then voting (R) because they claim to be so. If you’re not one of those, then my apologies for lumping you in with that group.

As to the Second Amendment whatever happened to: “A well regulated militia being necessary to the security of a free state, the right of the people to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed.” I’ve seen lots of infringement mostly from clowns like the one who boarded the plane or tried to. With 24 states, the last I knew of, with petitions signed by over 25,000 citizens for secession of each of these states I wonder if the fiscal cliff is the abyss the federal government will use to take their registration roles door to door.

Paul that is the Dems proposal – definitely not mine. Sure there is wasteful spending in every department of the gub’ment – including the military – but 1/3rd cut to the military? NO. The problem is “wasteful” spending is a matter of opinion and whose lobbyists paid you off. TERM LIMITS for Congress to control wasteful spending. When you have a $16,000,000,000,000 + Fed debt – tax raises for the wealthy won’t even touch it. There aren’t any trillionaires out there. Freeze ALL gub’ment programs now – across the board. That would be a 1st step.

I’ll stipulate it was a Democratic proposal. But when you write “Obama’s and Hairy Weed’s proposed cuts? The only one definite was to reduce the size of the military by as much as 1/3rd. Now you are going to ask me for a link – gave it to you several times – find it yourself.”

it comes across as if you’re ridiculing it.

Why not a 1/3 cut? It’d still put us in a position of spending more than many of the next-highest spenders combined. The late David Hackworth (USA – ret) who was the most highly decorated living officer, advocated a 50 percent cut, which he said would absolutely not imperil America’s security.

Both are and have been fiscally irresponsible for years…… much of the voting public is FISCAL liberal. The bank bailout was and still is a disaster. The crooks are still in charge of the banks that got bailed out. I would have sold off the assets of the crooked banks to the banks that did not get in trouble with the “real estate” debacle and arrested the criminals running the crooked banks and confiscated their ill gotten gains. Instead we still have the crooks that got rich off of this disaster running the banks.

” Split hairs much?”

What you’re referring to is known as ’shooting the messenger.’ A person delivers bad news to the boss. The boss goes into a tirade and berates the guy who brought the news. Boss does not see that the person who reported to him is just repeating what happened elsewhere.

Of course, I also recognize saying ’splitting hairs much’ can also mean “I did not see I was confusing the message with the reporting agency but I don’t want to admit that so I’ll toss it back on the other guy and blame him for being picky.”

From the rest of your answer, I am forced to conclude you have neither the ability nor the desire to think.

“Just what 1/3rd of the military do you want to cut?”

When Don Rumsfeld became SecDef under Bush he proposed cancelling all acquisition projects then underway, saying they took over a decade to develop, they were using outmoded technology and the threats they were designed to address were no longer in existence.

The top brass at the Pentagon and the defense corporations closed ranks against him. Weekly newsmags had headlines such as ‘Can Rumsfeld Survive?”

I think that’d be a good start.

We could also pull back from some of the 130 countries where we have a presence.

“Obama’s minister “G D America”……. sounds he really loves America alright.”

OK let’s get this over and done with once and hopefully for all –

Excerpted background of Wright’s sermon (not just the part that made all of the conned so angry):

Governments – number one – Governments lie.

This Government lied about their belief that all men were created equal. The truth was they believe all White men were created equal. The truth is they did not believe that even White women were created equal, in creation nor in civilisation.

Governments fail.

The government in this text comprised of Caesar, Cornelius, Pontus Pilot – Pontius Pilate – the Roman government failed. The British government used to rule from east to west. The British government had a Union Jack. She colonised Kenya, Guana, Nigeria, Jamaica, Barbados, Trinidad and Hong Kong. Her navies ruled the seven seas all the way down to the tip of Argentina in the Falklands, but the British failed.

The Russian government failed. The Japanese government failed. The German government failed. And the United States of America government, when it came to treating her citizens of Indian decent fairly, she failed.

She put them on reservations. When it came to treating her citizens of Japanese decent fairly, she failed. She put them in internment prison camps. When it came to treating her citizens of African decent fairly, America failed. She put them in chains. The government put them in slave quarters, put them on auction blocks, put them in cotton fields, put them in inferior schools, put them in substandard housing, put them in scientific experiments, put them in the lowest paying jobs, put them outside the equal protection of the law, kept them out of their racist bastions of higher education and locked them into position of hopelessness and helplessness.

The government gives them the drugs, builds bigger prisons, passes a three-strike law, and then wants us to sing “God Bless America.” No, no, no. Not “God Bless America”; God Damn America! That’s in the Bible, for killing innocent people. God Damn America for treating her citizen as less than human. God Damn America as long as she keeps trying to act like she is God and she is supreme!
