Bromance, not Benghazi, may explain Rice’s predicament

According to U.S. Rep. James Clyburn, D-S.C., and a few others, harsh Republican criticism of UN Ambassador Susan Rice has been motivated by racism and sexism, not by any role she might have played regarding the attacks on our consulate in Benghazi.
The editorial board of the Washington Post recently made a similar suggestion, noting that 97 House members have taken the very rare step of sending a letter to the president opposing a possible Rice nomination to replace Hillary Clinton as secretary of state. (The House, remember, has no constitutional role in the confirmation of Cabinet nominees.) As the Post pointed out, “more than 80 of the signatories are white males, and nearly half are from states of the former Confederacy.”
Personally, I think that explanation is far-fetched at best. There’s no evidence whatsoever that racism is involved, and making such a serious charge without evidence to support it is simply wrong.
That said, however, I can see how Clyburn and others could have come to that conclusion. There is no logical, rational explanation for the intensity of the criticism directed at Rice, who as UN ambassador had no operational responsibility for Benghazi and was only serving as an administration spokesperson on the topic. At best, she was a bit player in that tragedy. And with no logical, rational explanation available, it is only natural to turn to the illogical and irrational for an explanation. Thus, the racism charge.
Again, I think the charge is false. But racism also would help to explain why almost no Republican criticism has been directed at Clinton herself, the person who actually runs the State Department and is responsible for what happens at our embassies and consulates. As secretary, Clinton is also responsible for what Rice was told to say publicly about Benghazi. Yet it’s Rice, not Clinton, who has become the target of criticism.
In recent days, however, another possible if convoluted explanation has begun to emerge. The political attacks on Rice have been led by U.S. Sen. John McCain, who has made it no secret that he would prefer that fellow senator John Kerry be named our next secretary of State. In fact, while taking part in a press conference today, McCain jokingly referred to Kerry as “Mr. Secretary” instead of as senator. (Upon taking the microphone from McCain, a wry Kerry responded “Thank you very much, Mr. President.”)
That’s where things get interesting. If Kerry does become our next secretary of state, he would have to leave the Senate, leaving an open seat in Massachusetts. Scott Brown, recently defeated by Elizabeth Warren, would be perfectly positioned to run in a special election to replace Kerry.
And Brown, it turns out, is a particular favorite of McCain. The Arizona Republican serves with Brown on the Senate Armed Services Committee and took part in ceremonies last summer when Brown, a member of the Massachusetts National Guard, was promoted to colonel. Campaigning for Brown in October, McCain said “this man is the one I want most in the United States Senate.”
In most cases, the simplest explanation is also the most accurate, but in this case there is no simple explanation for McCain’s behavior. The notion that by vilifying Rice and elevating Kerry, McCain might be trying to help Brown return to the Senate makes more sense than anything else I’ve heard, including the racism angle.

Can’t deny what you posted however, one of the big issues is that many of the elite blacks do not ever want racism and bigotry to go away. Heck, Jesse would not be able to make tens of millions shaking down corporations and others under such suspicion, Cornell West and Tavis Smile (I’m a big fan and love his interview show) along with Sharpton and his crew, would lose the opportunity to toss that card anytime a hint of a a black individual getting dis’sed. I remember Twana Brawley and the like..pretty good gravy train a chugging along for these and others..

Of course, McCain had a matching statement early on. Duh! Originally, he was fed the same lie as the rest of us. It wasn’t until the CNN journalist that visited the consulate and annex that evidence the Ambassador was begging for military support (and was denied military support) came to attention. One survivor, who we have not heard from yet, avoided the attack by heading into the city to buy more phone cards because the White House kept blowing them off. Most people do not understand that both facilities were in a very rural area (described as a plantation) and not an urban setting where a demonstration would spontaneously occur. Five talk shows in one day! C’mon, Rice is no Taylor Swift CD release. Rice agreed to play the game (with a huge promotion in mind…and, yes, if these details of our failing foreign policy were not hidden in September, the Commander in Cheat would backing his bags).) Main Stream Media helps divert the Benghazi failures with attention on the Patraeus affair, racism towards Rice, sour election day feelings, and I’m sure there will be another two or three sideshows before we get the next bit of truth. The longer the Administration jerks us off, the more it will hurt them in long run. They’re making their bed…and it’s covered with fleas.

Now if I was a Republican I would scream for the Government to pay for my private school, but as an independent I foot the bill myself. However, if you want to help out that would be great. See that $19,770 doesn’t include books lunch, uniforms, transportation down to College Park, school supplies, activity fees, ect……..

The point is that the race card is too quick to come out…sometimes it is clearly occuring, other times it’s just an opportunity for a bunch of well read (in the case of Trump not so sure) profiteers to get 10 minutes of action.
Racism exists but not in this instance and not to the levels many african americans suggest. I think that entitlements (mostly actually paid to whites) have done more to hurt the recipients than the opposite…eliminates in most instances any dreams of upward mobility and maintains animosity based on race…many of course need this support but it is supposed to be temporary..

Keep: As I posted earlier I got something like $104.54 in dividends. I own such a small share in the well that it’s funny. Companies keep trying to buy me out for a lump sum of a grand or so and I SHOULD take the offer, but it’s more fun to take the little bitty checks (last year was around 30-40 bucks) and have the ability to truthfully say I own an oil well. Besides, it’s always free money when the check comes. That one almost paid for our supper at Parkers on Ponce Sunday night……… (that’s a place you should try, it was pretty tasty, I’ll link you their website).

One of the worst mistakes anyone could possibly do is put faith in anything that Rep. Clyburn says. He is an embarrassment to the State of south Carolina! He ranks right along with Rep. Johnson & former Rep. McKinney as proof that anyone can get elected as a Democrat!

There is a woman who is an analysit and co-host on MSNBC who I came across a while back. I find her to be a VERY ATTRACTIVE woman (you hear that Josef?) and frankly I’d give her the business. There are other issues connected to Rice besides Benghazi that make her candidacy questionable. Racism and or McCain’s wish to see Brown run for Kerry’s vacated Senate seat aren’t particularly good suppositions for Republican opposition to her as a possible candidate. Frankly I would rather see Kerry’s appointment to secretary of state before his appointment to secretary of defense where he would fit much like a square peg in a round hole.

KRYSTALS@7:51 / QUALIFIED – meeting the proper standards necessary to perform a particular task or job. Maybe I’m naive or old school but I thought asking about things like gay or straight, married or single, cons or liberal,. citizen or illegal, black or white were not a problem in today’s world. My first thought was Mrs Rice(if she was in fact gay) would be the 1st gay person to reach an historic position in this administration. You know, it is similar to the 1st black President honor!
