You can lead an elephant to water but ...
Some numbers:
– Thirty-three U.S. Senate seats were up for grabs in the 2012 election. Democrats won 25 of those 33 seats.
– Mitt Romney is going to the White House today to have lunch, not to check out his new crib. And the main reason he will have to dine and dash is because American women rejected both his candidacy and his party, voting for Barack Obama by a margin of 55-44 percent. The gender differential in most down-ticket races was even larger.
– The Republican-run U.S. House has 19 major committees. Next year, it appears that all 19 will be chaired by white males.

– The current Republican House caucus includes 24 women. Next year, that number will drop to 19.
– In the last three presidential election cycles, Americans under 30 voted Democratic by an average of 60 percent. And lest Republicans try to comfort themselves with the argument that it’s nothing new, that young voters always vote Democratic, it simply is not true. In the previous eight election cycles, an average of just 46.5 percent of young people had voted for the Democrat.
What does it mean? Generally speaking, younger voters who cast repeated ballots for a particular party tend to form a lasting affiliation with that party.

– On Wednesday, House Speaker John Boehner reiterated his caucus’s strong opposition to raising taxes on the wealthy. Also on Wednesday, a new Washington Post poll was released reporting that just 37 percent of Americans agree with the position that Boehner and others have made the central focus of their party’s economic identity.
As longtime conservative Bruce Bartlett puts it in his much-cited piece for The American Conservative:
“At least a few conservatives now recognize that Republicans suffer for epistemic closure. They were genuinely shocked at Romney’s loss because they ignored every poll not produced by a right-wing pollster such as Rasmussen or approved by right-wing pundits such as the perpetually wrong Dick Morris. Living in the Fox News cocoon, most Republicans had no clue that they were losing or that their ideas were both stupid and politically unpopular.
I am disinclined to think that Republicans are yet ready for a serious questioning of their philosophy or strategy. They comfort themselves with the fact that they held the House (due to gerrymandering) and think that just improving their get-out-the-vote system and throwing a few bones to the Latino community will fix their problem. There appears to be no recognition that their defects are far, far deeper and will require serious introspection and rethinking of how Republicans can win going forward. The alternative is permanent loss of the White House and probably the Senate as well, which means they can only temporarily block Democratic initiatives and never advance their own.”
Political power ebbs and flows. It always has and always will. But it doesn’t just ebb and flow on its own. It fluctuates because losing parties take stock of why they’re losing and adapt to changing realities. If a political party not only refuses to adapt but makes a refusal to recognize changing realities a central part of its identity, ebb and flow can be delayed for a long, long time.

Well, that doesn’t explain our more primitive ancestors who had no Olympic Park. And yes, clothing of SOME sort is a necessity in all but a very small area of the world. Mankind can only suvive a very narrow temperature range without assistance from clothing.

Jay, if you posted a picture of the Constitutional Convention of 1787, it would be nothing but white men as well. That pretty much explains why liberals despise the Constitution so much.
If the election of 2012 taught us anything, it’s that non-whites and females are not only expected to hate white males, but are encouraged to do so. Especially by liberal white males like Jay Bookman.

It is a fact that the GOP is in trouble. With an increasing number of voters that need the government to survive outpacing the numbers of voters that survive in their own, the days of the right are numbered. It is all but certain that the self reliant are going extinct. I say give up now and become a lifelong victim. Blame everybody else for your lot in life. Become a democrat.

The fundamental economic problem now is high unemployment. As we moved from manufacturing to a service economy labor has become the largest expense on the income statement for health care, insurance, banking, tech, and telecommunications. When times got tough these companies learned how to cut labor without significantly reducing productivity.
So what we need is a jobs bill with tax incentives: work force goes down, company pays more federal tax, work force goes up, company pays less tax. GDP and tax revenues increase while expenses from unemployment comp and Medicaid go down.
Japan hit debt of 200% GDP but still has good per capita income and only recently hit 4% unemployment!

As I recall, Reagan used the same justification in the 80s to retool factories and retrain the workers. Instead, corporate America used the windfall to float junk-bonds and using the proceeds did the leveraged buyout thingie, sold off the assets of the rust belt and eliminated thousands of career types offering “jobs” instead.
So, eff your “jobs” bill!

They know they don’t fit, they know they are not part of this but they want to stay, entertain themselves eating food rudely and bullying everybody in sight until someone has the courage to ask them to leave.
I think about the man from the Tea Party, somewhere in the mid west, who escorted the president around a campaign stop interrupting every sentence Obama made and demanding why the president had called him a terrorist, as he demonstrated being a terrorist. Or the US Congressman from South Carolina, who shouted out, in a State of the Union speech, liar, interrupting our president. The contempt these people have for our country to lack the grace of respect any representative of this country deserves. And you wonder why the steam is coming out of this movement; Americans don’t feel moved by anti-American movements.

Grow up and listen to what others are saying instead of trying to speak for them, Al.

There’s a lot of folks in today and seems to be a good mood day…full moon, I guess
____
Not all of us.
And last night they were blaming the bickering on the full moon.
Just what is a full moon good for, any way. Putting women into labor? My guess is impregnation goes up when it’s a full moon also. Especially in October.

Al: Why do people care so much about others wealth?! I just don’t get it. Rich this poor that, who gives a @#$@#$? Who determines that someone is wealthy and has so much disposable income that they can afford more of their money to go to the government?
Al, do you know what those rich playboy Kennedy’s family motto is?
To whom much is given, much is expected
This is the family who’s whole life follows this creed. They didn’t get the creed from the old robber (the patriach of the family), but from their mother, the family matriarch. A strong woman with strong ideals and a strong sense of right and wrong.
The Kennedy’s individually and together did these things for America:
*Sponsored the country’s first major job training program
*Started Special Olympics
*During his campaign, Kennedy had visited the rural poverty areas of Appalachia. ( A famous photo contrasts a handsome, well-polished Kennedy standing in front of a destitute Appalachian family on its front porch)18 Once elected, Kennedy created the Area Redevelopment Agency in 1961.19 This agency provided support in the form of loans, subsidies, and public works to local businesses in poverty areas such as Appalachia.
*Started ommunity Mental Health Centers Act was passed in 1963.20 This act provided federal funds to public or private nonprofit organizations for construction, and later staffing, of community mental health centers providing outpatient and prevention services.
*Started the Juvenile Delinquency and Youth Offenses Control Act
*The Kennedy Administration passed tax credits for business investment and increased business depreciation allowances.22 These policy changes, along with an income tax cut passed in 1964, contributed to the continued economic growth of the 1960s.

@DannyX – As a FORMER resident of California, I often read the Bee to see what’s happening in the old stomping grounds. Thank God I moved out of that State (during the hell-hole Gray Davis years – a Democrat by the way). As to your assumed intelligence, all I can do is laugh, bid you a great day, and hope someday you pull your head out of your own ass and see the blue sky I see every morning. “Forward!” (oh, PS – since 1960, CA has had 9 Governors – 5 R & 4 D. Both sides are to blame for the problems, not just Arnold).

DannyX, “It’s amazing how the Republican party, home to the conservative Christian, worship the rich. It’s actually the anti-Jesus party now, Jesus reached out to the poor and the sick, and had not one nice thing to say about rich people. Republicans reach out to the rich and bash the poor and sick.”
Funny, I don’t ever remember Jesus telling anybody to steal from others, give it to the poor, and call it charity. Do you have a reference?
The problem you continually have is you refuse to separate “needy” from “poor”. There is a huge difference and nobody has a problem helping the “needy”. Most of our “poor” people are poor because of their own choices and we’re tired of being taken advantage of by them and ripped off by people like you to feed them when you personally would never give them a dime of your own money. Start the “Democrats for the Poor” charity and see how many donations you get. Not many I would bet.
And which party was it that couldn’t even get half it’s convention goers to vote to put an allegiance to God back in their party platform and still to this day refuses to admit who took it out or why?
Stealing is a crime, DannyX, whether you do it or you enable somebody else to do it (the IRS). Does it make you feel better knowing you’re abetting that theft to make you feel like YOU did something for the “poor”?

One can make 100K and do really well.
what’s your definition of “really well”?
On that kind of money one can live quite comfortably. Especially in the South.
Id say with that you could have a really nice sized house nice cars.
Send kids to private school and have some left over to put away.

josef the same reason I give your mother respect or any older lady I have never metor help a small child, it is human decency. Gone with the wind are the days of respect and honor. Most of the right’s complaints have nothing to do with honor; they are absorbed in selfishness and greed. You should not serve in the halls of Congress if you have no more control of your emotions than a 10 year old child. You should not be allowed a leadership position if your one trick is disrespect. It took awhile for the public to understand clowns are not what are needed in this area. You got to love America; it can’t be fooled by fools.

Not true. Gray Davis wanted to keep the extra money in the state’s coffers, the public wanted it back into their own hands. They started a massive drive to get Gray out and put someone in who’d do what they wanted. Hence Arnold. Arnold came in, did what the people wanted, and California damn near went bankrupt.

Right on the money.
Im often reminded of the story of the widow in the temple.
41 And Jesus sat over against the treasury, and beheld how the people cast money into the treasury: and many that were rich cast in much. 42 And there came a certain poor widow, and she threw in two mites, which make a farthing. 43 And he called unto him his disciples, and saith unto them, Verily I say unto you, That this poor widow hath cast more in, than all they which have cast into the treasury: 44 For all they did cast in of their abundance; but she of her want did cast in all that she had, even all her living.
Most Christians talk the talk.
But they dont walk the walk.
