For at least a few conservatives, Election Night opened eyes about the danger of confining yourself to the right-wing information echo chamber. Because out here in the real world, as opposed to ConservaWorld, it turned out that the polls weren’t skewed, Mitt Romney wasn’t surging and a majority of the American people really did want to re-elect Barack Obama as their president.
Those who had relied on Fox “News” for their information were prepared for none of that.
To my mind, though, the utter collapse of the Fox narrative regarding the attacks on our consulate in Benghazi should be at least as instructive for those who are willing to see things as they are, rather than how they wish them to be. For more than two months, the network and those in Washington who follow its lead tried to create a firestorm of controversy regarding Benghazi, but time and again, as facts came to light, each right-wing claim about Benghazi was exposed as false and inflammatory.
Let’s review the litany, shall we?
“It never would have happened if consulate security had been bolstered as requested!”
No feasible level of consulate security could have saved the lives of Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team against an assault by 50 to 100 armed attackers.
“This only happened because under Obama, nobody is afraid of us anymore!” As Charles Krauthammer slickly phrased the argument on Fox, “these are the fruits of apology and retreat and lack of confidence in our own principles.”
Under President Bush, seven U.S. consulates or embassies were attacked, including those in Pakistan, Uzbekistan, Saudi Arabia and Syria, with considerable loss of life. But unlike Benghazi, none of those attacks became the pretext for crass partisanship.
“They refused to bring in the AC-130 gunships that could have saved the ambassador.”
The closest AC-130 was 2,500 miles away, in Afghanistan.
“They had Special Forces units sitting there in Italy ready to intervene but instead the cowards just watched our people die!”
The Special Forces units in question did not arrive in Italy until several hours after the attacks had ended, and were never in position to have played a role.
“UN Ambassador Susan Rice lied to the American people, and by doing so disqualified herself from consideration to become secretary of State.”
Rice accurately communicated to the American people the best, most current information as assembled by our intelligence community. There is no evidence that the intel assessment was altered for partisan political reasons, and former CIA Director David Petraeus and current Director of National Intelligence Jim Clapper have informed Congress of that fact.
However, the best indication of how completely the Fox narrative has collapsed comes from recent events on Capitol Hill. Sen. John McCain, who had heatedly pledged that “I will do everything in my power to block (Rice) from being the United States’ secretary of State,” has backed off that pledge and in fact is meeting with Rice today. Sen. Lindsey Graham, who had charged that Rice had disqualified herself from consideration, has also changed his tone and is also meeting with Rice today.
Sen. Jim Inhofe, R-Okla., a member of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, had earlier accused Rice of lying and said she would not be a “fitting replacement” for Hillary Clinton at State. Yesterday, Inhofe acknowledged that “I’m not at all convinced of that now.”
Those men may yet decide to vote against Rice, should she indeed be nominated by the president. But they appear to understand that they allowed their partisanship and anger to cloud their judgment, which is why they’re now moonwalking things back as quietly as possible.
In addition, State Department and congressional investigations into the Benghazi tragedy are still under way and may yet produce lessons into how such setbacks can be avoided in the future. That again is how it ought to be: When mistakes are made, you try to learn from them and get smarter, so you don’t repeat those mistakes the next time.
Right?

But you’re risking creating an echo chamber of your own here by focusing your entire attention to the zaniness and extremism of the right wing and failing to pay equal attention to the ways that this very nuttiness betrays a lack of a real political opposition that is rooted in struggle and an ideological vision of where to take the country.
The Democrats are really no less the victims of their own spin and “echo chamber” effects.

indigo, I’ve actually tried in recent weeks to have calm, rational discussions with actual conservatives here, about what flippin’ difference it would’ve made to Obama’s re-election prospects if it were, in fact, “merely” the entire Islamic world apparently erupting in violent protests against an offensive film. I really was not trying to do this for the “gotcha” value; I really was trying to figure out what rationale the Administration could possibly have, in this scenario, to concoct such a story.

Most of the aforementioned assaults were either single explosion car bombs or suicide bombers or a couple of armed men who were quickly killed. No Americans were killed.
As for the comment that additional security would not have saved the Ambassador is an odd assertion. Three Ex-navy Seals held them all off for 6 hours, saving dozens of personnel. Another 30 trained Ex Seals might have easily repelled them.

Jay,
I’m sure you will revel in any small fact that supports your left-leaning, neo-Socialist, pro-Muslim outlook on the World.
No matter what “facts” you cite, it is apparent that the Obama administration proliferated a cover-up of the Benghazi incident so that the POTUS wasn’t subject to pre-election embarrassment because of his foreign affairs failure to provide credible intelligence about the threat that Al Qaeda poses to US personnel and facilities overseas; and to act on the intelligence by putting in place adequate resources to meet the threats. It is better to look at the World through rose-colored glasses and claim a foreign affairs victory, instead of a defeat.
Because embassies were attacked during George Bush’s administration, is no motive to argue that the current administration has done a better job protecting our emissaries; because he hasn’t. Obama wants to see himself, and for others to see him, as a protector of our vital interests. But the fact is that he has failed miserably in that regard. It is true that he acted on credible intelligence (much of it from intelligence gathering efforts begun during his predecessor’s administration) and “took out” Bin Laden. But he fails to understand that Al Qaeda is still a threat to our interests because his admission of that fact would diminish the little recognition he garnered from his action. He thinks that it is better to propagate a cover-up than to let that happen!

The British had already closed their consulate in Benghazi due to the heightened danger from Salafist militias. We neither closed nor reinforced ours, against repeated requests from our own people in Libya.
Susan Rice was a, perhaps, unwitting participant in an effort to blame the deaths on a riot caused by a nutcase video, rather than the organized attack that was known from the outset. She chose to stick with her script under some strong cross examination, knowing that her interviewers were getting diametrically opposite reports from their own people on site.
Unless the “intelligence” agencies responsible for the misrepresentation thought that the militia leaders had IQs of 80, their excuses for their public talking points were flimsy. The perpetrators well know that we would be looking for them. They knew that their pronouncements had a political impact in a close fought presidential election.
So did Ambassador Rice. United States diplomats aren’t supposed to be participants in political campaigns. THAT’s the problem that she’s got.

We seem to have an over confident left wing attack against Fox News, don’t we comrades? It would seem that all the liberal main stream media operatives are way out in front of this damaging Obama scandal.
I shall clear up a few fallacies that Comrade Bookman stated in this morning’s propaganda release. Nothing could have saved Ambassador Stevens? When you are doing very sensitive CIA work in a country riddled with an Al Qaeda presence the show of force protection must be limited. When you are trying to secure Russian shoulder fired SA7 missiles the task becomes unmanageable with large numbers of personnel. The ambassador’s life would have been saved had a force of 100 operators been stationed there. The State Dept. ruled against that scenario to preserve their cover. It back fired.
The Bush reference is nonsense. Any consulate or embassy that was attacked was very limited to minor damage caused by individual perpetrators. There was never any large loss of life. Mr. Bookman is reading G.I. Joe comic books.
There were AC-130 gunships closer than 2,500 miles away. There could have been one on station within 60 minutes. We have the capability to respond quickly in the North African theater with various forms of munitions. Trust me and not the liberal news media.
Special forces in Italy could have been utilized, but were told to stand down due to higher command oversight. The State Depart. was in confusion and the window of opportunity was lost. However, Mr. Bookman failed to mention that the Obama regime also failed to adequately secure the aftermath with proper security. There are numerous CIA and Joint Force assets all over N. Africa that could also have played a supporting role in the rescue of our people left behind.
Our U.N. Ambassador, who carries the water for the Obama regime, dutifully carried out the ruse of a spontaneous attack while the regime tried to cover their stories. Those stories don’t add up comrades.
Senators McCain, Graham, and Inhofe are feeling the collective efforts of the Obama regime to tone down their rhetoric under the cloak of national security. Just like the Contra gun running deal, Libya and Syria are not out of the mix yet.
The best defense is a good offense. Stifle Fox News, stifle activist senators, and repeatedly mention the need for more and more State Dept. and congressional investigations. As time goes on, people get less interested and complacent.
Based on the liberal cesspool I swim in, my post will inevitably be attacked as fodder for you elitists. Open your eyes and think for yourselves. Try not to be the cows who blindly follow the Bookman cow with the bell.

Donavan — “There were AC-130 gunships closer than 2,500 miles away. There could have been one on station within 60 minutes. We have the capability to respond quickly in the North African theater with various forms of munitions.”
As has been pointed out several times here, 105mm cannon are not the sorts of weapons you should be using in a suburban neighborhood (where the consulate was located) in an ostensibly friendly nation.

If my comments are so ridiculous, why are we staring at a Fiscal Cliff 4 years into Obama’s presidency? You can blame Bush all you want, but Obama campaigned the first time on fixing the mess. Reagan fixed Carter’s mess so we know it can be done. The one opportunity he had with regards to pass legislation with his name on it was a waste called Obamacare. Why wasn’t it legislation to move the economy forward? The Messiah has not delivered and the oceans aren’t receding. Epic fail so far.

The state department knew in real time that there was no protest and that the embassy was under attack. The White House knew that day that what happened in Cairo was not the same thing that happened in Libya, and yet they sent Rice out 5 days later to provide a completely false narrative to the American people.
Easier to blame it on some obscure YouTube video that no one has ever seen than to blame it on a resurgent terrorist organization in a country whose dictator you helped topple. Kinda hurts the ole liberal worldview “let’s hold hands and sing Kumbaya and everything will work out” doesn’t it?

Jay – It is unfortunate you as a journalist are making all the Benghazi affair into a political issue and nothing more. I agree with the cons -it is a very serious matter but for different reasons than the cons and Fox keep portraying. FYI -Fox knew what to expect when they put Ricks on the air. Here is what he published in his blog after election day:
“”"” wonder if the jig is up for Fox: On election night they looked like they couldn’t decide whether they were a political party or a news network. That peculiar combination is no longer working. It was kind of like being in the line yesterday at Romney’s D.C. transition office to hand in your cell phones. Or, if you’re into 1962, like being at U. Miss.
On the other hand, Obama’s re-election may have helped the Fox MO. After all, it is much easier to work in opposition. You don’t have to deal with messy realities, or defend the awkward compromises that come with it, and can criticize at will. That likely will be the case come Monday, when Fox will have their memory banks adequately scrubbed. So maybe their business model is safe — despite it being built on the rubble of the national comity. “”"”"”"”" See Ricks Nov.7 blog post.
So the bigger question is why did they put him on as a military expert?
Could it be that he also posted that he did not understand why Petreaus resigned so quickly after the election and thought Petreaus was excellent as CIA director?
His flippant answer about comparing the killing of the Ambassador to the killing of defense contractors is demeaning to the four dead Americans.
The only reporter I have seen who has attempted to put the Benghazi story in some form of true perspective is Rachel Maddow who traced anti- American sentiment in Eastern Libya back to the first American Marine battle on foreign soil in 1803. Has anything really changed since then?
Largest number of insurgents in Irag came from Eastern Libya – why is that?
Why was our ambassador in a an insecure villa in Benghazi rather than in a secure consulate in Tripoli?
What was the CIA doing in Benghazi?
Why did Fox News and Paula Broadwell leak out what app-ears to be classified information from the CIA????
What was Petreaus and the GOP’s role in the leaks?
Isn’t it strange that another female wannabe who had Democratic party connections exposed Petreaus and Broadwell through the FBI???
Where are Woodward and Bernstein when we need them?

Networks aren’t required to be licensed by the FCC. Only individual terrestrial stations are.

I’m not saying that Fox is necessarily right, but don’t you think it odd that the president himself would continue to promote the story that the attack on the consulate was due to outrage over a video? Why continue to maintain that story line when 1. the president knew otherwise; 2. the truth would not set well; 3. there might be something to hide. No one has yet to explain why this story came out and was maintained. Fox News is willing to ask the hard questions that others simply seem to dismiss. Knowing the truth is important and paramount.

My counter points (noted with an A) to Mr Bookman’s assertions (noted with a J)
J: No feasible level of consulate security could have saved the lives of Ambassador Chris Stevens and his team against an assault by 50 to 100 armed attackers.
A: Yet 2 men armed with small arms managed to save 30 other staff members. Amb Stevens could not be located because he was in separate room inaccessible to the rescuers. Why haven’t these people been located and questioned to get their version of events?
J: Under President Bush, seven U.S. consulates or embassies were attacked
A: Resulting in zero deaths or injuries to embassy personnel. All deaths/injuries were to civilians on the outside of the compounds mostly due to explosives used by the terrorists.
J: The closest AC-130 was 2,500 miles away,
A: There were other aircraft in the area that could have provided a show of force and if necessary air support. The Navy and Air Force have a lot of tools at their disposal.
J: The Special Forces units in question
A: While Special Forces are the go to guys there was an Airborne unit in Italy that was available and capable as well as a Marine unit just off shore on the Navy ships. Either one could have provided some boots on the ground, instead a conscience decision was made to not use them. Who made that decision?
As far as Amb Rice’s comments, she was either willfully ignorant, very poorly informed or set up to be fall guy with her ridiculous comments. Saying someone is incompetent is not racist either.

Mr. Bookman, you have conveniently neglected to mention that the Obama Administration told the public that a spontaneous protest about a You Tube video was the cause of the attack for about 2 weeks. This material omission on your part makes your analysis faulty. We had drones, surveillance cameras, and eyewitness accounts that there was no spontaneous protest. Perhaps Ambassador Rice did not know there were no protest, but someone in the Obama Administration made the decision to lie to the public. There was no reason to make up a story. The public would have been satisfied with a simple “we are investigating what happened.” Since the the majority of the mainstream media refuses to hold Obama accountable for his actions, we should be thankful that there’s at least one network willing to ask questions. You come off as a mouthpiece for the Adminstration, excusing its intentional lies. Sheeple, anyone?

However, the best indication of how completely the Fox narrative has collapsed comes from recent events on Capitol Hill. Sen. John McCain, who had heatedly pledged that “I will do everything in my power to block (Rice) from being the United States’ secretary of State,” has backed off that pledge and in fact is meeting with Rice today. Sen. Lindsey Graham, who had charged that Rice had disqualified herself from consideration, has also changed his tone and is also meeting with Rice today.

“a majority of the American people really did want to re-elect Barack Obama as their president.”
Saying a majority of the people “really” did want to re-elect Barack Obama as their president” is a supposition. The fact is less people voted for him then they did in 08 and the national popular vote wasn’t sufficient enough to declare a mandate. As for Benghazi the contradicting narrative from the White House and state department was at best incompetence and at worst intentional deceit. The failure to provide adequate security after several requests and while justified based on the prior attacks was inexcusable. The MSM ignored this unfortunate loss of American life and that’s is just plain unprofessional journalism if not unAmerican on the part of a largely far-left news media.

The Benghazi narrative spun by Fox now in ruins
9:33 am November 27, 2012, by Jay
I think this contradicts your argument:

Jay, you write & complain about the right leaning news programs & right wing columnists that try to creat “firestorms” yet when do you ever write about the “firestorms” left leaning news programs (more of those than right leaning) & left leaning columnists create?
Wait! Let me guess. Left-wing news programs & left-wing columnists NEVER create firestorms they just tell the truth, the whole truth, & nothing but the truth?
Sure do wish columnists (left & right…includes you Jay!) & news programs would just give facts…the real facts not the ones they make up in their head.

Fox News Called Landslide For Romney
Tom Ricks, author and Pulitzer prize winner who has reported for the Washington Post, lambasted Fox News’s coverage of the Benghazi attacks in an interview with the conservative network on Monday. Ricks, who has written extensively on the American military, called the Fox an “operating as a wing of Republican Party” that “hyped” the Benghazi attack as a faux-scandal.
During the interview, which lasted only a minute and 45 seconds, Ricks responded to a loaded question with a remark that surprised the anchor:
JON SCOTT (HOST): Senator John McCain said in the past he would block any attempt to nominate Susan Rice to become U.N. — I’m sorry, Secretary of State. She’s currently the U.N. ambassador. He seems to be backing away from that. What do you make of it?
RICKS: I think that Benghazi generally was hyped, by this network especially, and that now that the campaign is over, I think he’s backing off a little bit. They’re not going to stop Susan Rice from being secretary of state.

Good point. Gerrymandering (redistricting) which both parties love to do in attempts to stay in power, played a significant role for House Republicans a few weeks ago. Their 2010 victories certainly played a role on that front.
However, when looking at demographic trends, those advantages at the district level are evaporating in certain states. It will take a few more election cycles, but the demographic trends in certain states will surely overcome the gerrymandering.
Will be interesting to see how the Republicans play the 2014 mid terms, seeing that they know these trends as well or better than I can see them.

Any journalistic attention to obtaining facts was driven by Fox–and the need for such was created by government lies.
Even at this point you seem more obsessed with Fox News than any concern that the nation deserves to know about it’s governments’ activities around the globe. And just for starters–it is your assertion that we have now been told the truth about the CIA’s mission in Libya, who all the players were in the attack, and why we are being attacked?
Shameful behavior by Fox only puts a huge exclamation mark behind the utter failure of journalism as this nation and government have ramped up a huge covert, intelligence operation that in the end will oppress————————-you.

It’s so funny to me how conservatives still love and defend Fox News when the network and it’s analysts and favorite pollsters got EVERYTHING wrong on the Presidential election. It wasn’t even a mistake or an accident, it was deliberately misinformation delivered in such a successful manner the right siders were SHOCKED by the results.
This is what happens when you isolate yourself in an echo chamber who’s only goal is to reinforce your prejudices while hiding as much actual information as possible which conflicts. The main stream media beats the stuffing out of Fox every time when it comes to news.

Media Matters has been working overtime on this, even attacking a teenager who defended Fox’s coverage on the grounds that no other *news* organization was doing the traditional job of holding the administration responsible. Obama did his grave dances and victory struts, and al Qaeda, which has by no means been decimated, let him know they are not *on the run* by their shouts of Obama, we are all Osama now. So saith the Libyan pres (isn’t he one of our Libyans now?). I should think that in addition to lying to protect her boss, the very very worst thing Rice ever did (besides the Rwanda and Sudan stuff under Clinton) was to give the finger to the late sainted very left wing Richard Holbrooke. TBS,
This is not 04 this is 4th. Qtr. 012 and we have excessive unemployment, weak GDP growth a 16 trillion dollar deficit that’s growing each day and a world situation on the brink of war not to mention a significant number of people who’re committed to our destruction as a nation. Now in addition to these rather serious issues we have a president that based on pandering symbolism to his far-left base wants to raise taxes on those earning over 250K annually, which will account for 802 billion dollars over 10 years. Broken down annually that increased revenue would fund the the federal government for 8 days. This president purports to have drawn a line in the sand on this paltry increase in the face of a looming fiscal disaster in about one more month. The Democrats can thump their chest and do victory dances but it’s time to wear long trousers and it doesn’t seem the left gets that message.

Few events have so thoroughly and indisputably burst the Fox News bubble as election night 2012. But there are many other examples of where the network persisted in promoting a certain version of events despite all evidence to the contrary. Several studies have shown that Fox News viewers are more misinformed than uninformed. Yet, Fox News fans can’t face facts, do not want to be confused by the facts. An intervention is in order.
I challenge Fox News viewers to turn away, just say no! Go for six weeks without any Fox. Get your news and information elsewhere. And before you turn around and challenge the rest of us to only watch Fox News — cause I’m pretty sure that’s what you’re thinking — bear in mind that we are not among the blind being led around by those who will not see. And you have your right to your opinion. If you believe what Bush said was applicable in 04, you are being a hypocrite if you do not believe the same today when Obama had more EC votes and a larger margin of victory in the popular than Bush.
This isn’t horse shoes and hand grenades, close doesn’t count. Obama isn’t going to make Romney, Co-Prez because of the votes totals. Obama will not get everything he wants and shouldn’t, but he also shouldn’t cave on all things because you and others were more than ok with Bush’s close victories but now want to stomp sour grapes into whine because Obama won a fairly close popular vote but a EC vote beat down.

Debt crisis my ass. We’re suffering from a 40 year JOB crisis. Creating new and permanent jobs will do more to alleviate all of this “crisis” crap than any type of agreement that could ever come out of Congress. Jobs would help out with SS and Medicaid funding, debt reduction, and boost GDP all at the same time without Congress doing a damned thing.
—————
blaming obstructionist GOP congress for blocking BO’s ability to do anything as suggested is indicative of lack of leadership in making good on his “spirit of compromise”
How about you go out and attempt to negotiate a compromise with one of the bridge pylons out at Spaghetti Junction. See if you can get one of those pylons to compromise and move it’s position. I’m sure that you have the leadership capability to overcome absolute obstruction since you seem to think Obama has that ability. Show us all how it’s done.

How would you know how many phone calls to the hill obama made? The jobs bill had partisan idea’s yet, the repubs in congress were not going to help out obama in an election year. So, party politics over country? I thought getting people back to work is a bipartisan ideal? Look, like I said, obama is doing the best he can with what he has to work with, the opposition needs to compromise some, thats all we ask…

It’s not the GOP world crumbling. It is our world.
Disagree.
The far right wing has taken three devastating body blows recently. (Doubt me? Just ask Messrs Allen, West, Walsh, Akin and Mourdoch among numerous others of the GOP’s most intransigent, intolerant and McCarthy reactionary.)
Of course, America has her problems. Like she has always had. But she’ll keep on rockin’.
And all this talk about divisiveness? Outside of the Lily White Party, the whites, blacks, browns, Asians, Jews, all other minorities, the gays and America’s women are coalescing into one nation under a groove.
And the day that you Uncle Sam haters finally realize that your present course is a dead end back to the 1950s, is the day you will start healing…

So all of you think that this was accurately reported and conveyed to us by our leadership? My only concern was the evolving story being manipulated during the runup to an election. A child could have seen that a dozen or so coordinated attacks on the first 9/11 since Bin Laden was killed was obviously not over a video. For that – I do fault this administration. They do this better than anyone ever has – distraction and deflection – getting you to watch the bouncing balls (tax returns, sandra fluke, bain capital) while your house burns around you.

November 27th, 2012

We don’t yet really know as a society what a person has to do to completely and utterly cancel out a record of war heroism, but we may be about to find out. If this CBS News report is even close to accurate, John McCain’s arguments of the last few weeks about Susan Rice are thrashingly demolished. He has, or should have, zero credibility now on this issue. It will be fascinating to see if he emerges from the holiday weekend subtly chastened, attempting to shift gears a bit, or whether he keeps the pedal to the paranoid metal. He’s getting toward the sunset of what was once a reasonably distinguished career, a career (if we count his time in Vietnam) that began in the highest honor and has now descended into the darkest farce.

According to the Pentagon — and they should know, since they tend to keep track of such things — there was no AC-130 sitting on the ground in Tripoli or anywhere near there. If you have evidence to contradict the Pentagon, produce it and cite your source.
Otherwise, that is a complete and utter fabrication and still further evidence of the conspiracy nonsense.

John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte have been reduced to the level of three blind mice, yelling and screaming at a room full of deaf people… They fail to realize that their shrill tone temple tantrums are not about the act of terror in Benghaz… Its not about what Ambassador Susan Rice said or didn’t say… Its not about what our intelligence agencies reported… The story has morphed into something entirely different… Now rational, logical, fair and balanced Americans are asking; what’s wrong with John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte ??? Why are their honesty, integrity and character being questioned ??? Why are there questions about their mental instability and their intellectual shortcomings ??? Shame on the three blind mice…

Why are so many Americans blindly supporting the President and his administration on Benghazi? When people blindly trust in their government – our country is lost. Pick up a history book. Any modern fall of a nation, or rise of dictatorship, happened when people stopped questioning their government. When people put full faith in their government. We should ALL question our government, ALL the time. Whether it’s a Democrat, Republican, or 3rd party candidate. Why do liberals want our government to have so much power? Perhaps what you wrote is true – but there is someone equally (probably more) credible than you who could refute every single point you made, with fact. Just like you refute them. Clearly, this is a controversial issue that demands answers. So where is our President? Why isn’t he willing to take an oath and answer some questions about Benghazi? We should be demanding truths to the fullest extent. There is a large possibility the President committed election fraud. There is a possibility he is completely innocent, and many other innocent people will have their careers ruin because of it. But we need to know the truth. And you, and all other people in the media – we should be questioning, not providing answers that are not fact based. If we don’t question this, if we just let it go, we are giving too much power & credibility to our government. Ask any Eastern European (I’m Russian) what it’s like when we blindly trust our government… ask them what they do with their power. They don’t help anyone but themselves.

I’m a patriot, conservative (in the traditional way, e.g., not today’s stereotypical conservatism – I believe in individual liberties incl. gay marriage & women’s choice), & true constitutionalist. My point was, without judging anyone’s intelligence or motives for political affiliations, Obama & his administration should take oath and have a brief trial & put to rest the public’s questions – the American way. If they have nothing to hide, then they should readily oblige & it will be an easy and fair process. We all need to be open-minded and critical of our government, always. We need to demand truth & transparency, and have intelligent and respectful disputes – not engage in the hurtful, ignorant rhetoric that occurs today. Bigger government is not better. It never has been in the history of civilization, and it never will be.

You sir are a complete hack. Regardless of your opinion of Benghazi, Fox is the lone network to share any coverage that sheds light of both (left/right) viewpoints. With the exception of one courageous woman reporter from CBS, all the other networks completely ignored the story.
You are also missing the entire point. Yes, our Embassies have been attacked during Bush’s watch as well as Clinton and many other President’s. The main issue is that 4 Americans were killed needlessly. Not only were they left on their own for 6+ hours, but the Ambassador had requested extra protection weeks if not months before, only to be ignored. And in the wake of the debacle, what does our Commander in Chief do? Jets off to Vegas to fund raising and also mixing with Beyonce’ and then Letterman, The View and other “soft” venue’s whom he could easily control… And the reason for the deception? Of course to not detract from the narrative he and the Dems were spewing that Al Qaeda was on the run and dismantled…What a joke! As big a joke as this fish-wrap newspaper and columnists like yourself…

Jay,Susan Rice appeared on five different days on 5 different shows to explain to the American public that Al Qaeda was “decimated and Ben Laden is dead”and she was only saying what she was told by the CIA?
Ambassador Rice was sent out by Obama to parrot what he wanted the American people to believe something that has been proven beyond question as false, by no less than the head of the CIA.
Jay,the responsibility you have as a journalist ,whose salary is paid by the readers of the AJC, is to seek the truth and not let ideology get in the way, unfortunately you have failed on both of those counts.
Saying the CIA reported it was a video that caused a spontaneous attack is another untruth that you and much of the media are still reporting as fact.
