What happens on Fox “News” if you challenge one of their most-cherished narratives?
If you’re Tom Ricks, author, Pulitzer Prize winner and former military affairs reporter for The Washington Post, the interview ends abruptly and you’re sent quickly packing, probably ensuring that you will never see Fox air again.
Nicely done, Mr. Ricks. (Transcript below).
It got me to thinking, though. Back in the day, David Allan Coe had a country hit titled “You Never Even Called Me by My Name,” which he claimed was damn near the perfect country song. All it lacked was a mention of “momma, or trains, or trucks, or prison or gettin’ drunk.” So Steve Goodman, who had co-written the song with John Prine, sat down to write Coe a new closing verse. It went like this:
“Well, I was drunk the day my momma got out of prison,
And I went to pick her up in the rain.
But before I could get to the station in the pick-up truck,
She got runned over by a damned old train.”
So … what would be the perfect Fox “News” non-story? If you were a Fox “News” producer, and you wanted to dream up the segment that would punch every button for your audience, what would it be?
The Benghazi attacks were carried out by the New Black Panthers to recover evidence that Obama had really been born in Kenya?
—————
TRANSCRIPT:
JON SCOTT (co-host): Pressure mounting on the Obama administration over its response to the deadly attack on our consulate in Benghazi, as [Fox News correspondent] Catherine Herridge reported just minutes ago. Several top GOP lawmakers are backing off their criticism of U.N. Ambassador Susan Rice, instead focusing on the White House. Two senators even expressing concerns about a possible White House cover-up. Let’s talk about it with Tom Ricks. He is author of The Generals. He has spent decades covering our military. He joins us now.
Senator John McCain said in the past he would block any attempt to nominate Susan Rice to become U.N. — I’m sorry, secretary of state. She’s currently the U.N. ambassador. He seems to be backing away from that. What do you make of it?
RICKS: I think that Benghazi generally was hyped, by this network especially, and that now that the campaign is over, I think he’s backing off a little bit. They’re not going to stop Susan Rice from being secretary of state.
SCOTT: When you have four people dead, including the first dead U.N. ambassador — U.S. ambassador in more than 30 years, how do you call that hype?
RICKS: How many security contractors died in Iraq, do you know?
SCOTT: I don’t.
RICKS: No. Nobody does, because nobody cared. We know that several hundred died, but there was never an official count done of security contractors dead in Iraq. So when I see this focus on what was essentially a small firefight, I think, number one, I’ve covered a lot of firefights. It’s impossible to figure out what happens in them sometimes. And second, I think that the emphasis on Benghazi has been extremely political, partly because Fox was operating as a wing of Republican Party.
SCOTT: All right. Tom Ricks, thanks very much for joining us today.
RICKS: You’re welcome.

Fox serves a very specific purpose for those who watch. It gives them validation, not information. Those people are predisposed to a particular ideology and Fox just reinforces what they already believe. Facts, truth, news and actual information do not figure into the equation. I know someone who thinks Obamacare dictates that micro chips be implanted into people who take advantage of it. Guess where she got that tidbit of “news”. Mr. Ricks only said on the air what most of us already know.

The Republicans are just coming in from a cold war with Democrats where for the last four years their total existence was to obstruct and hinder the daily operations of government. The public recognizes it and it shows in the polls. The GOP has put on false fronts, lady spokespersons, black keynote speakers, but at the end of the day you can return to FOX to see the raw mini rallies of propaganda and the lack of intellectual foundation this disingenuous and in many cases anti American, sold out mob really represents. I also think the rest of the club that tunes in like a strip club audience ain’t fixing the problem they are the problem. We all suffer so these people can play cowboys with big hats and no cattle.

Morning, peeps!
The upshot of this post is that Fox News is doing great work. In that they are further damaging the GOP brand with their cowardly stunts, loathsome personalities and the on-air silencing of opposing voices.
Certainly the more rational and reasonable people in this country are fed up with losers like Karl Rove and Ann Coulter.
And their best days as a viable alternative for something other than laughably hyper-partisan, far right wing, globally cooled, the GOP can do no wrong nonsense is likely behind them.

A crowd protesting a uTube video does not attack with heavy weapons. The CIA reports it is a terrorist attack, but for political reasons that is not reported to the people. It did not fit in the Obama killed OBL, Al Qaeda almost gone, look-what-I-have-done election runup spin.
So the guy blasted FOX while on FOX. It’s his opinion. At least they aired it. A study showed MSNBC ran not one positive story about Romney the last week or so before the election.

First of all contrary to what the left wing propaganda machines told you Fox polling did not predict a Romney win and if you were paying attention the “reputable polling” wasn’t all that reliable as most failed to accurately predict the effectiveness of the DNC ground game in the battleground states. “”The problems we inherited were far worse than most inside and out of government had expected; the recession was deeper than most inside and out of government had predicted. Curing those problems has taken more time and a higher toll than any of us wanted.”"
Ronald Reagan, 1983 SOTU
“”To understand the State of the Union, we must look not only at where we are and where we’re going but where we’ve been. The situation at this time last year was truly ominous.”"
“In the last six months of 1980, as an example, the money supply increased at the fastest rate in postwar history 13 percent. Inflation remained in double digits and Government spending increased at an annual rate of 17 percent. Interest rates reached a s taggering 21 1/2 percent. There were eight million unemployed.”
&
“First, we must understand what’s happening at the moment to the economy. Our current problems are not the product of the recovery program that’s only just now getting under way, as some would have you believe; they are the inheritance of decades of tax and tax, and spend”
&
“Now the budget deficit this year will exceed our earlier expectations. The recession did that. It lowered revenues and increased costs.”
Ronald Reagan 1982 SOTU

But UA has been there many times…I have a tendancy of projecting gloom, doom, and despair based on our lack of victories in big games..I do not think this we be an easy Bama win…unless we turn the ball over or get manhandled at line of scrimmage on both sides…both are real possibilities…whoever wants it the most but I’m not getting all fired up expecting anything other than a UA win but a tighter game than most expect.

**f you were paying attention the “reputable polling” wasn’t all that reliable as most failed to accurately predict the effectiveness of the DNC ground game in the battleground states.**
Two points: Nate silver was absolutely correct all along and obama’s ground game was strategic and tactically smarter and stronger than romney’s. They had roughly the same amount of money to spend. Lucky for us, the smarter man and team are still in the white house…

IMO the only things we can count on are that we will never really know what happened…citing either security issues with releasing details…no way this or any administration will release anything that is unfavorable toward handling… any administration for that matter…can you imagine Bush or an arrogant BO saying they didn’t handle such an affair in the best, most effective means possible?

“Life is good. Unless you’re a Republican.”
To the contrary it will be interesting watching Obama and Democrats twist in the wind as the voters finally understand the looming financial disaster that this administration has ignored in favor of vote pandering.

Stevie Ray,
As a betting man, I would take ‘Bama straight up, and against Notre Dame, I’d take whoever got the spread. The Irish are tougher than they look. Take a hard look at their schedule.

In fairness, I can safely say that while Fox has certainly been a GOP juggernaut, they are about equal in negative statements about BO as MSNBC is about Bush and Romney.
Fox gets under more LIB nerves because they get a larger market share..Big mistake is that the general public can’t distinguish between news and entertainment..

“Lucky”…I guess Democrats must believe that bad luck is still luck because it’s better than no luck at all.

Stevie – “In fairness, I can safely say that while Fox has certainly been a GOP juggernaut, they are about equal in negative statements about BO as MSNBC is about Bush and Romney.”
juggernaut??? their on-air staff CAMPAIGNED for Romney. Literally.
could you imagine the howls if any of the networks did that???
“Fox gets under more LIB nerves because they get a larger market share..Big mistake is that the general public can’t distinguish between news and entertainment..”
No, they get on my t!ts because they lie. It really is that simple – they twist facts to suit their needs, they skew visuals, and they out-and-out lie to their viewers. and, yes, the general public that watches that bollocks laps it up like it’s mother’s milk.
