And that, dear readers, is the end of our political programming as we head into the Thanksgiving holiday.
The Bookman clan is preparing to welcome family and friends coming in from California, Washington state, North Carolina and Sterling Street. The food for tomorrow’s feast has been gathered; appropriate libations have been procured. The star of the show, a 22-pound turkey, is defrosting in a cooler outside, in preparation for its date with destiny on my Weber grill tomorrow morning.
And just to get y’all into the mood, here’s an underappreciated holiday classic, which by some accounts was based on a real-life episode right here in the ATL.

Well, the missus has a 25 lb. turkey she’s getting ready. That’s one lb. for my son, one lb. for my daughter, one lb. for little Nathan Zell George, one lb. for me, and the rest for her. She sets in the kitchen and gnaws on turkey while the rest of us are talking or taking a nap. If the Rev. Jim Bob Buice shows up after dark—he can’t come in the day because the state won’t let him be around kids—maybe there’ll be a little left for him. He better show up right after the sun goes down though. My buddy Jim Earl and my other buddy Joe Bill might show up before it’s all gone.
Friday is Black Friday in the Convert household. That’s when the missus storms around complaining that she seems to of gained 10 lbs. all of a sudden and she’s in a real bad mood. She’s been dead set on getting down to 345 lbs. before Christmas. Anyhow, one good thing about having a job, I won’t be in the trailer when she’s putting on her show.
Have a good Thanksgiving everybody and drink plenty of beer. It’s good for my job security and good for my 401k. And be sure and be thankful, even if the Good Lord didn’t smite the Muslim Socialist Kenyan like we prayed for.

Happy Thanksgiving, everyone!
Jay: This may be another event, or maybe it happened in Yellville instead of Atlanta:
Oddly enough, this famous WKRP episode was loosely based on a real event! Back in 1946 (some sources say 1945), Yellville, Arkansas inaugurated the “Turkey Trot Festival” which included a wild turkey calling contest, a turkey target shoot, a Miss Drumsticks Pageant and oh yeah: a live turkey release from the roof of the courthouse.
After a few years, someone thought it might be fun to actually toss the poor gobblers out of a low-flying airplane for the event. This repeated for a number of years until 1989 when a national animal-rights protest cast the event in a bad light and the “National Enquirer” splashed a photo of the event across the nation forcing promoters to abandon the turkey drop.

And lest we forget:
Thanksgiving Proclamation
Issued by President George Washington, at the request of Congress, on October 3, 1789
By the President of the United States of America, a Proclamation.
“Whereas it is the duty of all nations to acknowledge the providence of Almighty God, to obey His will, to be grateful for His benefits, and humbly to implore His protection and favor; and—Whereas both Houses of Congress have, by their joint committee, requested me “to recommend to the people of the United States a day of public thanksgiving and prayer, to be observed by acknowledging with grateful hearts the many and signal favors of Almighty God, especially by affording them an opportunity peaceably to establish a form of government for their safety and happiness:”
Now, therefore, I do recommend and assign Thursday, the 26th day of November next, to be devoted by the people of these States to the service of that great and glorious Being who is the beneficent author of all the good that was, that is, or that will be; that we may then all unite in rendering unto Him our sincere and humble thanks for His kind care and protection of the people of this country previous to their becoming a nation; for the signal and manifold mercies and the favor, able interpositions of His providence in the course and conclusion of the late war; for the great degree of tranquillity, union, and plenty which we have since enjoyed; for the peaceable and rational manner in which we have been enabled to establish constitutions of government for our safety and happiness, and particularly the national one now lately instituted; for the civil and religious liberty with which we are blessed, and the means we have of acquiring and diffusing useful knowledge; and, in general, for all the great and various favors which He has been pleased to confer upon us.
And also that we may then unite in most humbly offering our prayers and supplications to the great Lord and Ruler of Nations, and beseech Him to pardon our national and other trangressions; to enable us all, whether in public or private stations, to perform our several and relative duties properly and punctually; to render our National Government a blessing to all the people by constantly being a Government of wise, just, and constitutional laws, discreetly and faithfully executed and obeyed; to protect and guide all sovereigns and nations (especially such as have shown kindness to us), and to bless them with good governments, peace, and concord; to promote the knowledge and practice of true religion and virtue, and the increase of science among them and us; and, generally, to grant unto all mankind such a degree of temporal prosperity as He alone knows to be best.
Given under my hand at the City of New York the third day of October in the year of our Lord 1789.”

Long before the British Pilgrims held their Thanksgiving in Massachusetts, a Thanksgiving Mass was held in St. Augustine, Florida, on September 8, 1565, by the Spanish. There was also a Thanksgiving Mass in San Elizario, Texas, and a British Thanksgiving service in Charles City County, Virginia, pre-Pilgrim. So why are these, and so many others, non-events?
.
Because having taken place in the South, they had to be erased by Lincoln, who wanted to pretend that America started in New England, and tied his Thanksgiving to his war of aggression.
.
I give thanks to all decent Human Beings ..everywhere…………who put the violence of the State…………behind them………………and laugh heartenly every day at the left/and/or right progressives.
And I pray that the Obama/Romney-Bots will ………..one day……………see the light.

Hoo what a day. Early morning doctor appointment and then cooking all day for a friend. She gives me free produce, I cook for her. It works for us both. We today made, creamed corn, (25 ears worth), sweet potato souffle (what a waste of beautiful 20 sweet potatoes that need nothing other than maybe a little butter, salt, and pepper and a couple of pounds of pecans), collard greens (hush josef you faux southerner lol, speak and I will force feed you grits), green beans (nothing negative to say about them either lol), and not one but TWO pumpkin pies, made from frsh pumpkins by the 10 year old daughter. Honey helped her making the dough and I cut, seeded, and baked the pumpkins, but she did it basically herself.
Tomorrow we will make our stuff. Punkin’ pie, mashed taters, dressing, turkey (yuk), okra, (double yuk), and the little bit of collards, sweet potato, and beans, I kept for us. Oh and a dish I call Orange Glump, (it’s great).
Glad to see that with very few exceptions, (that I won’t cal out by name), that everyone kept to the spirit of the thread. Happy Thanksgiving to all of you and yours.
Jay: Grow up. Get an Green Egg.
Everyone else: Let’s take up a collection and buy Jay a Green Egg, (preferably used), it’s the least we could do for him for putting up with our sht 24/7. I’ll toss in a Benjamin…….. if we can get to the price……..

My contributions to the feast are deviled eggs (courtesy of my chickens) and pecan pie from pecans that I picked up at the farm (and homegrown eggs of course).
Anybody notice that while we have about 1 gazillion pecan trees in Georgia and zero almond trees but pecans are way more expensive than almonds here? Global economy, they say the Chinese are buying all the pecans.

Living well is the best revenge, and I plan on exacting my revenge. Liberals, Taker, wake up. Once the gov’t has no need for you, you will be the first to go. And they will tell you, “Certainly you understand, you have received so much for free for so long, surely you understood it could not go on forever. Time to go now, so we can move Forward…” Granny Godzilla will be put down once she gets alittle sniffle. And the Liberals will cry out, “Save me, save me”. Save yourselves now, get a backbone and a sense of morallity. And a job, while you are at it.

He can’t. The asshat is too full of hate and election envy. Besides, they shut off the electricity to his double wide today and he can’t listen to Boortz and Rush anymore until the Koch brothers pay him for toting their mail which they will NEVER do.
No wonder he’s so bitter on Thanksgiving Eve.

Fred: I heard on the radio the other day that if you drink a glass of ice water, the body will burn 100 calories warming the water so it can leave the stomach. Well that gets the heathen to thinking. Wouldn’t the same be true for cold beer? So that 160 calorie beer is really 60 calories if it is really cold. My research continues.

Good Thanksgiving morning to all y’all. The Corbin Sharpe family tradition is to play this just before sitting down to eat. The Grand kids, young and old, and now with a threesome of Great Grand kids to join in singing the refrain, it ought to be fun…

Mick,
Ever since my kids were little, we would play Alice before the meal and sing the song. When my kids had kids, they carried on the tradition and now my great grand kids are getting in on it. Thanksgiving, in the Sharpe house, is all about family…and laughter. and this song gives it all.

Thanks to our Muslim President for funding the iron dome anti-missle system which saved my mother and other relatives in Israel. and Thanks to the Muslim Botherhood leader of
Egypt who negotiated a truce with Hillary which gives greater protection to Israel by allowing US peace keeping troops in the Sinai so they can enforce an arms embargo against Hamas and stop Iranian missile shipments. See Mr. Morsi has a little problem too with extremists and Al-Quaida running all over the Sinai and trying to overthrow his government. But then again Hannity and the cons would not be thankful for any of this because they want to keep up the lie that Obama the Muslim hates Israel and is in bed with the Muslim brotherhood.
Happy Thanksgiving cons. Hope that burn mark on your rear has healed by now!
