The first song ever written was a love song. You know, somebody pledging their ever-lasting love and fidelity to somebody else.
The second song ever written was a cheatin’ song, complaining about the lyin’ SOB who wrote the first song.
Given recent events, it’s time to pay homage to the second oldest song topic. I’ve invited the great Miss Kitty Wells to kick off the evening’s festivities, performing a song dedicated to Paula Broadwell and all the other honky-tonk angels out there, wherever you are.

Funny you should post that, heathen. Many years ago, I was walking up the back stairwell of a Vegas hotel and as I’m climbing up, I can hear this couple coming down the stairs up above, and they’re fussin’ and feudin’ and fightin’ up a storm. The whole stairwell is echoing.
And then I turn the corner and they see me and we pass each other and everybody’s quiet and embarrassed.
It was Tanya Tucker and Glen Campbell.

One thing you can say about Georgia. We have a bunch of folks that are really good at the turn of a phrase. Take this Georgia boy:
I said the day you left me, nothin’ worse could ever happen, but seeing you with someone else proved that I was wrong.
And when you eyes met mine I knew that you were gone forever, along with all the reason, I had for hanging on.
I’d be better off, in a pine box, on a slow train back to Georgia, or in the grey walls of a prison doing time.
I think I’d rather die and go to hell and face the devil. Than to lie here with you and him, together in my mind………..

Come up on different streets they both were streets of shame

And I dreamed your dream for you and now your dream is real
How can you look at me as if I was just another one of your deals?
When you can fall for chains of silver you can fall for chains of gold
You can fall for pretty strangers and the promises they hold
You promised me everything you promised me thick and thin yeah

Back when Emmylou was getting started, a bigshot record executive told her if she’d get a really hot band he might record her. So Emmylou—no dummy herself, for she was valedictorian of her high school class and a scholarship winner at the University of North Carolina—went out and got the best musicians available. They included the Englishman Albert Lee, the fellow playing lead guitar in Tulsa Queen. Albert might be, along with Grady Martin, the finest guitarman that ever lived. Emmylou herself said of him, “When Saint Peter asks me to chronicle my time down here on earth, I’ll be able to say (with pride if that’s allowed) that for a while I played rhythm guitar in a band with Albert Lee.” You probably saw Albert Lee playing lead guitar on the reunion tour of the Everly Brothers.
Anyhow, since she was asked to get a hot band, the only name for it was The Hot Band. And the rest is history.
