You may have read that so far, some 30,000 people have signed a petition at whitehouse.gov requesting that the federal government grant Georgia the right to secede peacefully from the union and establish itself as an independent country.
A related petition has also been filed, so far drawing more than 850 signatures. It states:
Peacefully grant the City of Atlanta leave to withdraw from the State of Georgia and remain part of the United States
The City of Atlanta continues to suffer deprivations of economic, civil, religious, and political freedoms imposed upon it by Georgians (who are hostile to Atlanta).
In the event that Georgia is successful in its effort to secede from the Union, we the people of Atlanta wish to remain in the United States. We love our country. We are dedicated to it. And we are committed to preserving its rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers.
We would also like to annex Athens, Georgia, Decatur, Georgia and the parts of Macon, Georgia made famous by the Allman Brothers.

Dear friends,
I wanted to let you know about a new petition I created on We the People, a new feature on WhiteHouse.gov, and ask for your support. Will you add your name to mine? If this petition gets 25,000 signatures by December 14, 2012, the White House will review it and respond!
We the People allows anyone to create and sign petitions asking the Obama Administration to take action on a range of issues. If a petition gets enough support, the Obama Administration will issue an official response.
You can view and sign the petition here:
http://wh.gov/XCVc
Here’s some more information about this petition:
END THE DISSENSION WITHIN OUR NATION AND PREVENT REBELLION FOR LIGHT AND TRANSIENT CAUSES AMONG OUR PEOPLE.
The Declaration of Independence gives the right to not just the people of this nation but to the government as well to make drastic change in the form of our government. The charges that were once placed upon King George are now growing upon our own Government. Our nation is once again in the position that it saw in the 1760s. Rights have been removed and replaced with lies of security. Few have seen the results of laws that have been enacted to this end. The wrongs done to the people are becoming known and will soon be understood letting loose more anger than resolve. Former President Truman was right in his veto of the Internal Securities Act of 1950. If he were here now he would be leading the rebellion that comes by way the truths that have gone unheard. Return these rights. Please.

And Buckhead would like to secede from Atlanta and form its own city/county, etc. Maybe the subdivision a couple streets away wants to keep our subdivision out, who knows.
Sorry, we are all Americans (not hyphenated Americans, “All” American) and we might as well get used to living with each other. I believe the secession question was answered 147 years ago, just taking some of the dimwits around here a little longer on the uptake.
No one likes the increasing daily intrusion of ever increasing government (thank you Ron Paul for a great goodbye speech), but it’s the only government we have. It just needs to be one heck of a lot smaller and stay out of people’s lives (sorry, liberals, I know intruding to every facet of everyone’s life is your wish come true)

I can’t believe all this craziness because the President got re-elected. Before you sign your name to some crazy petition. Remember this. Social security is a government program, along with Medicare. Which is the insurance for millions of people. The disabled, seniors and veterans and so forth. Medicaid pays insurance not only for the poor but for seniors when they are in a nursing home. If you are well off like a lot of the super pacs you have nothing to worry about, but if you don’t what is your state going to do without government aid for so many programs the state and so many people rely on. Are you ready to do without them like unemployment payments so you can at least survive. Is your state willing to hire you when government jobs are scarce. What happens to all the so called politicians going to do for you. You really need to think about all this before some knee jerk reaction.

This reminds me of my daughter, when she was about two years old. If she wanted something bad enough, she would hold her breath, until she got it. We counseled with her pediatrician about whether it was safe to let her turn blue in the face. He said it was ok and that she might even pass out. We should just make sure she didn’t hit her head on any hard object, and she would be ok and this phase would pass.
My advice to secessionists is observe caution, nobody is going to stop you from hitting your head on a hard object.

In Georgia’s succession haven’t we tried this once before with less than mixed results? If I were the feds I would gladly accept this second attempt. We still would become a foreign aid ward of the US but I imagine that is cheaper than the welfare we collect now and at least foreign countries can be cut off for being idiots.
This would be the biggest contribution the south has ever made to the welfare of this country. Just before this mutiny is complete, please lower a life boat down for me and my family, so we can get off. Then let these pirates have it, like Castro and Cuba, it should be fun to watch, at a distance.

For the geographically challenged, Akron to Cleveland is blue Ohio and it ain’t looking good for the O-dumber. Surprisingly, the number of undecideds in the polls have dropped to below 2%. Well considering ya’ll Georgians have been bickering and separating cities and counties for years rather than working with each other to form a stronger region and State, this crap doesn’t surprise me in the least.
Just remember, should you secede, you will become one of those “damn foreigners and emigrants” that you bemoan so heavily. How? Well, you will no longer be US citizens, and since the newly formed Federated Republic of Georgia (can’t be just Georgia, there’s already a Country named that) you will have entered that nation as a immigrant, just like everyone who was in the US when it was created (ignoring the Natives of course, they counted about as much as blacks did in the eyes of the wealthy – hey wait, that hasn’t really changed much has it?). How will you feel about emigration and defense at that point?
Oh, and that little tiff about the Tennessee River water rights a few years back? Yeah, that’ll be an actual water war this time.

And in the case of more stupidity from the GOP:
The head of the Republican Party in Maine thinks there might have been voter fraud in his state because “nobody in town knows anyone who’s black,” but black voters came in to vote on election day….In an interview with an NBC affiliate, Webster said he was astounded by the “dozens, dozens of black people” who voted, and thought it was odd because he personally doesn’t know anyone who knows a black person in town”
May I suggest a “Meet your black person day”?

The ‘new secessionists’ — driven to near madness apparently by the re-election of a black man for president — crack educated citizens of other states up.
Why? Because most of these neo-secessionist folk live in states — like Georgia — that are a *drain* on the federal tax system — getting more federal money than they send to Washington in the first place. Yet they have managed to convince themselves that the federal government is ‘robbing’ them.
Some cynics just say, let these states and their willfully ignorant, logic-bereft, science-rejecting, backwards, superstitious past-clingers go. They’re a drain on the nation.

The secessionists are unpatriotic and traitorous. They whine because their candidate lost an election. An election that was fair, despite attempts at suppression by many state governments, and decisive. 53% of Georgians voted for the candidate that lost. While I am pleased their candidate lost, I do understand the letdown when the one you believe in loses. Trust me, I felt that letdown in 2000 and 2004. But those who take that letdown and whine about it and try to undermine the process that has kept this country strong for 236 years are just ridiculous. Instead of spending so much of your time and energy whining and pursuing secession (something that will not happen), how about going out into your community and do something positive to make it a better place to live? Pick up trash in a park or alongside a roadway; work at a homeless shelter or a shelter for abused children and women; tutor a child in need of help. There are so many ways to be positive. I suggest you try or else you will find that the next four years are going to be very long while you wallow in your pitiful misery.

At the risk of beating a dead horse
, I must post Krugman’s words on this thread also, because they are, inadvertently, apt in describing the heart of the national secession movement:
“And I don’t think the Republican party as currently constituted can change this: after 45 years of the Southern strategy, this stuff is what defines the party’s soul.”
===========================================
From the book, “Washington: A Life,” by Ron Chernow:
“Although he held his tongue during debates, Washington was never a neutral party, and the interminable squabbling only reinforced his view that the country needed a potent central government to override the selfish ambitions of local politicians. . . .’I almost despair of seeing a favorable issue to. . .the convention’ he informed Hamilton on July 10, chastising ‘narrow-minded politicians. . . .under the influence of local views.’ “

Shades of John C. Calhoun. Let’s also bring back nullification. The easier answer is of course to offer all of these extremists their wish to be separate with their own country in, for example, Idaho, Utah and Wyoming. Plenty of right wingnuts there already who would welcome them. And beautiful country and they would have international border with Canada. Anyone in those states who did not want that could have the choice of voluntarily repatriating to the US. Perhaps we could give them abandoned homes of TeaNuts? But don’t know they would adapt well to tin roofs and outhouses. As to relations with the US, I am not prone to be too kind to them since they have such a manifest hatred of our country. But the nature of relations could be open to negotiations, like with any foreign country.

What the trouble is in the conservative mind they are independent don’t need any help, but in reality they are the very population that needs all the help. The world doesn’t sit still while they wait for the fat boy to catch up, you better be lean and mean or you are not going to make it. You need to be educated in order to keep up too. This very last election Obama ran circles around Romney with new ideas on how to run campaigns, polls, getting to his base, and how to get a message out. He showed how the real world is always a step ahead of this conservative movement in business as well as social standard of living.
Most of the south is hired help for the rest of the country. Atlanta is a distribution center more northern white collars passing through than native white collars. We are begging jobs, paying for the education of our citizens that is obsolete the day they graduate, bringing non union job cheaper labor, second class citizens all because we are too stubborn or worse dumb to understand the world. Look at the state when we were under the blue flag, Olympics, a president from Georgia, progressive south. Now look at the south under the red flag, conservative, backwards, undereducated, impoverish and backing up. If anyone in the country need the federal government it is Georgia.

The “tea party” weapons of choice are hatred, fear and rage/mob mentality against the American People. The GOP/tea party lost the Presidential election because the whole world saw their hatred and bigotry on display during the 2008 midterm elections and heard their battle cry (take back my country)as well as saw the majority of poor uneducated, disenfranshised White American’s embrace the “tea party” as a protest vote against the American People for electing the 1st Black American President of the USA. President Obama was elected by a landslide victory in 2012 just like he did in 2008. Know the “tea party” terrorist group(s) want to secede from the USA. Talk about crazy lunatics. Let them secede.

Georgia secedes. All military and Federal Government offices and officials leave. Businesses located IN Georgia now have to leave or be rebranded as foreign business. The Corps of Engineers opens the sluices at Lake Lanier as they leave since they won’t be there to open them when needed. People need a passport to get to Florida, Alabama, North Carolina South Carolina, ECT….. We, REAL AMERICANS, deny most favored Nation status to Georgia. We delay trade negotiations.

It’s time for a reality check.
God forbid one day the those of you who tout paying taxes by force is stealing, and you want to seccede from the Union, that you find yourselves suddenly out of work or your businesses shuttered, with no health insurance, too sick to work, with a mortagage and a passel of little ones to feed, and suddenly realize you have to apply for unemployment, Medicare, and food stamps to survive until things get better. Or grow old and find your retirements savings plundered by the Madoffs of the world, leaving you to have to rely on Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid with the rest of the hard-working Americans who don’t make enough money to save for retirement.
Social assistance is not a handout, it’s a support system that is suppoed to help those that are not able to care for themselves, to avoid homelessness, and dying from not being able to get access to healthcare. Ask anyone on disability or unemployment if they’d rather be working and contributing, and you will get a resounding YES! Who would want to live on under $200 bucks a week? That’s nowhere near enough to pay rent, utilities, and food. To say someone would WANT to live in that kind of poverty is just nuts.
I should point out that in 1860, the seccession of GA was put to the popular vote and shot down by the majority of voters. It was then put into action by the few in power. We are a republic with a democratic system of government by the popular vote. The popular vote has spoken.

I wish all you race baiting uneducated idiots would actually learn about slavery and racisim and stop parroting what you are told by other idiots.
This country AS A WHOLE was founded under the concept of servitude. It use to be prisoners and poor whites that were subjected to working in the fields under terrible conditions. As it became more profitable the southern plantations began using blacks, bought from African trible leaders, under the US flag. The demand increased further until the source became kidnapped Africans who were brought here like cattle. ALL under the US flag. Slavery was a main stay in New York, Maryland and the rest of the Northern states. It became less relied upon when KING COTTON came along. It was called king cotton because everyone, southern plantation owners as well as northern textile companies were raking in the money off of its slave labor generated growth, harvest and sale.
The US government approved of slavery and its limited expansion as did President Lincoln himself, up until the point that the northern states could thrive without it.
The fact that you idiots think racisim is a regional thing proves you lack basic knowledge of US history. Even during the civil war the north returned slaves up until the Emancipation Proclimation, which by the way only freed slaves in the rebellion states, not the others.
You are all welcome to make your stupid comments about race but please stop acting as if it was a southern thing, it was a United States thing !
Now if you wish to go deeper you should consider that the north monetarily supported slavery by buying the product slaves produced, and then selling it to the British for 10 times the cost. So your rich urban northern industrial cities of today were financed and built off the African Americans backs, the southern plantation owner was just the middle man of the system. Not to minimize the brutality and inhuman manner that they imployed, but this was the US way of expansion and growth, it’s the reason the north had money to build its infrastructure.
So if you live up north fully think about your city when you are reaping the benefits that you pretend to think you built yourself but while at it think about where the money came from to build your magical cities.
Slavery was brutal and ungodly but it was a joint effort of the north and the south. The Jim Crow attitudes is what the system gave us when the north pulled the plug on the the very system it imposed, leaving blacks uneducated and in poverty and leaving southern whites unemployed and broke. The end result was that the masters were left eating from the same trough as the slaves. Since they already looked at blacks as cattle, which the northern corporations overlooked while they stuffed money in their pockets, the collapse of their southern way of life left the lion and the lamb living in the same barn. The result was southern imposition on free blacks who had little choice in what to do because they were slaves for 200 years and then free with nothing to do or anywhere to go. They were still at the masters will.
Matter of fact the north went on many more years with the same monetary mentality. If not for women’s suffarage and the northern labor unions the northern commerce, and therefore the country’s commerce would still be paying folks .10 an hour and calling it paid labor, as they simply pushed the body of the dead employee out of the way so they could make room in the sweat shop.
There is a reason for everything and your lack of historical understanding is exactly why there continues to be a regional divide in this country. Look at your family history Oscar, you have no idea where your money originated. But I promise you at some point your well being interacted with the slave labor brought to you by the northern industrial complex, which in the end exploited much more than regional racial prejudices.
This entire country was built on the backs of African Americans as was the railroad on the backs of poor chineese.
Please stop with your condescending, uneducated, better than thou attitude. I sure it and the Democratic Party would serve blacks better by actually lifting them up rather than continuing to promote policy that makes them your loyal voters. I can promise you one thing the blacks that are able to break out and become financially independent are no bigger fans of the tax and spend plank in your party than the rest of us.

White People States of America
Since several Rocky Mountain states will likely join the secessionists’ new country, I don’t think CSA will work.
I assume they will stick with Governor Romney as their new president but who do you think they will pick for VP (don’t think a Wisconsin resident will work)? I’m thinking maybe the defeated congressman West from Florida. Paul Broun would be a good fit. No wait, who could be better than Pat Buchanan?
Talked to two state representatives from my county this morning. One said he signed the petition but was “just fooling arond”. He said he knew of at least four other republican representatives who also signed the petition to secede from the United States of America. That sounds a little low of me, I would have guessed at least half of them are secessionists.

Jay have to disagree. Much of the money to build Hartsfield was federal- from the tax on tickets, jet fuel, etc. The COA contributed though.
That brings me to: if they succeed the Feds will keep the military bases, Interstate and national defense highways, veterans admin hospitals,CDC, Lake Lanier, the Savannah Port….

Nunna Yobinnes The Civil War, sadly, didn’t end the war. The South has been attempting to drag the rest of the country into its racist, theological dystopia since that war. The South lost the war, won the Reconstruction, lost the Civil Rights movement of the ’50s and the ’60s, won again when it joined the GOP as a result of its Southern Strategy. Its GOP alliance made it possible for it to take its racism and theocracy nationwide in the guise of “fiscal responsibility,” “low taxes,” and “welfare queens,” under Reagan. The South lost again, spiritually, when the country elected a black president, twice, despite the votes of its shrinking, racist, white base.
Again, most Confederate states take more from the federal government they detest than they put in. Their influence on the country has been destructive in every way. I am sick of the theological, anti-middle class, pro-racist idiocy you’ve been shoving for over a century. SECEDE.

The fact is that it’s the more populated areas that get more benefits. Dem or con benefits are proportional to population.
However if you wish to count mentality by district perhaps you can explain why the majority of the counties in California voted for Romney yet the state went for Obama

Both parties have problems and you know it. Once people become more successful the less they demand higher taxes, because the money is taken from them. The very design of the democratic platform would fail the party if it was a true goal. Since the party proclaims itself to be for the little people, while at the same time being led by hundreds of the very rich, if you accomplished your stated goals of being there for the poor, you would run out of constituents given every policy you say you want. Why because everyone would be financially comfortable and your tax argument would fail. You Therefore are living on the class divide. By nature that will start falling apart for you as you accomplish your goals.

I hate to disappoint but I do not have a political affiliation as I do not believe in altering my beliefs to acommodate for whoever is running for office. I vote and live my life by my own conscience, and my conscience tells me that burdening future generations for a sense of entitlement that we refuse to pay for is immoral. But as you so stated we are not on the same side of these issues, so it is my presumption that you approve of this spending. With a name like Big Daddy I assume you have children. Go home tonight, look your kids in the eye and tell them with sincerity that you are perfectly okay with burdening them and their children with heavy tax debts so you can have free “hell”thcare and entitlements. Tell them they have to pay for it since we adults are either too lazy or ignorant to fix the problems ourselves. No doubt it would not matter to these supporters that the people of Athens, Macon, Decatur or other may not want to be annexed but would rather be free. This is all about power. The city of Atlanta is a parasite on the state (not the businesses, not the productive citizens, but the government itself), and they know that in a free Georgia, they are not going to be able to leach off the Feds like they do today and wield that power against the rest of the state.
It is amazing watching the response of all these folks on this issue. A whole lot of people just want some freedom. The rest are responding for a variety of reasons, but in my heart I think its mostly because someone (thousands actually) have finally taken the step of saying just how crappy this country actually is (and frankly, had Bush put up a similar website, this would have been going on under him too). Pretending that everything is hunky dorey in this country or that we all want to stay together in this host-parasite relationship is delusional. Sadly of course is that the root cause is govenrment, not the general public. We work, we engage in business transactions and generally get along. It is the power hungry that run our government that create the relationships that set us upon each other (black/white, rich/middle/poor, tax payers/tax takers, etc).

That means, of course, that instead of lifting themselves by their individualistic bootstraps, the greatest generation relied on federal subsidies and federal aid to achieve the standard of living that made the US the envy of the world.

As a esteemed member of We The People of the US of A I now decree the District of Columbia (aka Washington, D.C.) to be a foreign nation for which no residents of D.C. will any longer enjoys the privileges of citizenship or governance over, by, or for any of the other citizens of the United States of America.
There it is… problem solved… I just kicked all of those scum-sucking, parasitic, no-good, liberal pieces of human garbage out of our proud American nation. The low-life Obama-nation garbage is not wanted and no longer welcome in America. Pack your welfare, your government handouts, your food stamps, and the rest of your ghetto garbage and get the freak out of our great nation before you do any more damage with your morally and financially bankrupt mentality.

Secession means staying where one is, not leaving the land behind. So there is not a large enough plane to haul the land of the state of Georgia away from the continent, for all the sky-milers who want to donate. And since, as one person noted, every single state has secessioners, those who say
“let them go” must be saying “let all those lands go,” in which case I suppose, they will not have land beneath their own feet? So, if you say “good riddance” to every state-land in America, then YOU will be needing your sky miles, right?
The subject “might” be ridiculous, but the comments here are more so. Apparently some people don’t know what secession means in the first place: it means leaving the union-of-states, not leaving the states.
Now that this term is defined for you on both sides, carry on.

The banter of secession from the Union is ridiculous. If you recall, we fought a war over this issue from 1861 to 1865. However, consider the following as a viable constitutional alternative to unravelling the status quo: At present, the U.S. has several Territories to include Guam, Puerto Rico, CNMI, USVI and American Samoa. The residents are U.S. citizens and they do not pay federal income tax. However, as collective dependents of the U.S., they receive billions of dollars each year in goodies to include food stamps, HUD housing, subsidized U.S. Postal Service etc., from Uncle Sam. In exchange, they are not allowed to vote in the Presidential election and they do not have U.S. Senators. However, each territory is allowed one non-voting representative in the U.S. House of Representatives. This person is selected by the territorial Governor. What if the red states decided that they no longer want to be states and opted to reverting back to being U.S. Territories? The blue states would get the luxury of supporting these territories with goodies through their taxes. Since the residents of blue states claim to have a monopoly on compassion, they shouldn’t have a problem with their financial support of the territories. Thus, the argument is that the red states aren’t seceding from the Union, they are opting to becoming dependent’s of the Union. Problem solved. Everyone is happy.

I think with the state of our country and the decline of “real” American values make people want to leave the US. Obama is forcing his agenda down our throats and forcing us to pay for things we don’t believe in. The people that are decent, moral people that are willing to work hard and are not always looking to the Government to give them everything and to solve their problems don’t like the way our country is going. When Obama has ruined everything good, those who voted for him will be whining, but will have no one to blame but themselves.

The real issue so far is not about president, but about precedent. Freedom of expression is obviously something all posters on this subject are definitely “FOR.” Not one of you, red or blue, would want to be told that what you have freely expressed here is now illegal.
It’s not about freedom of secession, but freedom of expression.
Too many are too willing to set a precedent whereby those who expressed their opinions in those petitions should be “stripped of citizenship” or “deported.”
Everybody here needs to recognize that while PRESIDENTS come and go, PRECEDENTS stay. Let us not set any precedent against free speech. Let us not set a PRECEDENT whereby any administration, now or future, can take away freedom of expression because he does not like what is said. Whether Obama is your guy or not, he will not always be your POTUS.
I may not agree with what they said, but I will definitely defend their right to say it. I might not agree with what you posted, but I do agree you had a right to post it.
About this, we all should agree.

What if:
There is some faction that is not of our citizenry, neither red nor blue, who has encouraged and fanned the flames of political division beyond ordinary election ferver, just to keep the US extremely polarized and divided? If we remain so divided within that we see one another as war-enemies rather than as people with differing points of view, doesn’t that help the enemies without?
Don’t light a fire until you know who is fanning the flames.

Susan Moore, Asking for secession is not the same thing as actual secession. You are implying that people in the United States should be shot for expressing the idea of secession. That is, Susan Moore, you are saying that they should be shot for what they wrote. So, Susan, are you ready to hand over your freedom of speech, and that of all your family and friends, and that of all persons in future, based solely on your personal frustrations about this? You are calling for the government to be allowed to use capital punishment because someone SAID something. How long will it be, then, before you have something to say and discover, after the fact, that you will be shot for it? Based on the sayso of some other Susan who does not comprehend freedom of speech.
And Susan, you also express a belief in capital punishment without due process of law.

Common Sense? You like to fan flames?
If not, you might need to explain that calling on liberals to get their guns is funny to you because liberals keep voting against having guns for the general public.
You seem assume that people who don’t want people to have guns don’t have guns.
Is this assumption valid, given that people who are liberals also don’t generally vote for capital punishment, but have no hesitation in calling for shooting people whose rhetoric disagrees with
theirs?

Born&raised Georgia girl, you are thinking too. But, if Georgia is not in the US anymore, which US laws will apply in your state, and which will not? Does Ga. Law give women the right to vote? What army will defend Georgia from foreign nations immediately after secession? How will Georgia pay the expenses and benefits of their military? How will banking work, and with what form of money? When you or your family members get sick, how will you pay for medical care immediately after
secession? I would not want to be suddenly a citizen in a country in which I did not know the laws, the financial set up, the infrastructure of the government itself. I would not want to suddenly find my family without insurance (that I pay for) because my insurance company was based in a “foreign” state. Without an understanding of how it would all work, how can you give up the known for the unknown? Are you jumping from frying pan to fire? Do you like your governor? Or would he be replaced by the new order in Georgia? By whom and on whose authority? THINK some more.

The greatest generation was not farsighted enough to realize that all those federal subsidies and federal aid programs would bite their kids and grandkids later on, sending us toward the “cliff.” More of same won’t work, the till is empty. And these days, federal subsidies and federal aid is no longer coming from the federal government: it is now coming from BORROWED MONEY that we can’t pay back. So the poor ol greatest generation took all the goodies and left us with all the bills.

You are right that racism has come full circle. Now blacks are outspokenly racist toward whites. While whites try to be nice and prove they are not racists, blacks try to be as mean as possible to prove that they are racists (they just don’t call it that.)
Being racist is not illegal. It might be immoral, but not illegal. Blacks who are racist are immoral, whites who are racist are immoral.
People who verbally promote murder are immoral. People who curse others are immoral. Lotsa people are immoral, for lotsa reasons.
I know how to fix the country! Everybody stop being immoral in every way.No lies. No theivery. No envy at what someone else earned. Help your neighbor. Help the sick. Give the poor a hand-up so they don’t need a hand-out for long. Don’t waste. Live within means, both personally and governmentally. No more divisive insults:if you want to keep civilization, be civil.
We need to pull together. We need to restore what is moral and what is sound.
If we cannot talk, we cannot work together. If we cannot work together we work against each other, then we fight against each other. Once we are fighting one another, will we turn and fight together against a foreign common enemy? Or will the foreign enemy take all from both?
I hope we are like kids in a family who fight and wrestle and call each other names, but, watch out!
If anybody outside the family starts in on one of the family, the family becomes a unit again against the outsider.
Cause, believe me, they are watching and waiting their chance.
Either way, if you hate blacks or if you hate whites you are racists.

Why not just let the Libs and conservatives have a divorce, I mean really their views are so polaring opposite. I support dividing each side. Lets have them chose their own government. Lets see which side is more successful. There is no need to continue to have half the country miserable. 2001-2008 Libs were miserable under Bush. Now conservatives are miserable under Obama. Why keep it like it is. We do not need each other. That way everyone will always have the government that they desire, and if they have a change of heart, they could always change their residence. Everyone who really thinks that people really want a Civil War must be delusional. Most of the population in the 1860’s (even the ones fighting) did not want the Civil War. Division of the country is inevitable. It is like a bad marriage, eventually the two sides will separate.

Nunna- Lincoln wrote the Emancipation Proclamation and stuck it in his night stand drawer for several months, because he did not want the north to feel the war was being waged in order to free slaves. That is one of the largest Civil War Myths being taught in schools (the north fighting to free slaves). After the Emancipation Proclamation many northern soldiers still fraught very hard, but were angered by the thought that they were fighting to end slavery. And to believe the south was fighting to preserve it was another great myth. Most slave owners never fought, and most southern soldiers were not advocates of slavery, many even felt that slavery was an oppressive institution to them due to lack of economic development. They were angered to fight for the rich plantation owners right to keep slaves. Not sure why anyone would think that the division of country has anything to do with slavery.

Instead of trying to break the Union apart, secessionists should try to SOLVE some of our nations’ problems instead of BECOMING one of its problems!! They need to put their money, their time and talents into working on collaborative bi-party plans to FIX our problems and to strengthen our nation. The last time that states sececed it was over race. Have we not risen past that type of simple-minded thinking in the last 200 years? Oops…I guess not…

To suggest the Civil War was all about slavery or race is inaccurate. The south in their minds had a list of grievances w/ the north. Many had to do with the economic views. While the south believed in free markets, they were totally opposed to the “Wall Street Capitalism” the north was engaging in. They also were upset that tariffs imposed to pay for defense and other federal obligations seemed to be more unfavorable to southern agriculture and more favorable to northern industry.the biggest issue of slavery was the south being upset that the Feds would not force northern states to return escaped slaves ( which shows the double standard of both sides on the issue of states rights). Had the south given up after Antietam, the war would have ended and slavery would have continued for many more years. Slavery never became a political issue until the South suggested in order to achieve equal representation in the House of Representatives, slaves should be counted as part of southern population.

I can see why so many are upset after the elections. There is the sense that government is not responsive to our real needs and desires.
But there are 3 reasons why secession won’t work.
1. The first is because it will NOT resolve the problem.
2. The second reason is the fact that a state is not a nation.
3. The third reason is that most people do not identify with a state as they do with the nation.
Like it or not, we Americans identify with America because it is our native land with a common history and culture. We are proud to be American.
Secession is a superficial, knee-jerk, dead-end reaction that masks the real problem. The real solution is to identify and address the root cause and deeper solution to our problems, which is done by the author John Horvat II in his article A Case Against Secession at http://www.ReturnToOrder.org

Or should I say more than rich care to pay for, and they have should only have to pay soo much of free money. You got to remember if they don’t make money, they shut down their business ,jobs are lost.
And it is more than the middle class can afford. Desperate times call for desperate measures. We have to do something, before free money runs out, and the thugs that are on the news everyday have a real reason to kill and rob! Worry about them RIGHTS!

It’s time for those that sign up , to secede from the union, be granted quick access to flights from the country, to an isolated island in the pacific, where there is no materials to build homes, food stores, protection from storms. They do not deserve the freedom we have in the states, this country provides. Most people in these states they wish to secede from, do not agree with the signers of the call to secede. I consider these people as traitors to their god given country! In some extremist countries, people like this would be jailed,or shot on sight. Beware of your consequences they might just be given, only to each individual.,
