You may have read that so far, some 30,000 people have signed a petition at whitehouse.gov requesting that the federal government grant Georgia the right to secede peacefully from the union and establish itself as an independent country.
A related petition has also been filed, so far drawing more than 850 signatures. It states:
Peacefully grant the City of Atlanta leave to withdraw from the State of Georgia and remain part of the United States
The City of Atlanta continues to suffer deprivations of economic, civil, religious, and political freedoms imposed upon it by Georgians (who are hostile to Atlanta).
In the event that Georgia is successful in its effort to secede from the Union, we the people of Atlanta wish to remain in the United States. We love our country. We are dedicated to it. And we are committed to preserving its rights and liberties in accordance with the original ideas and beliefs of our founding fathers.
We would also like to annex Athens, Georgia, Decatur, Georgia and the parts of Macon, Georgia made famous by the Allman Brothers.

The secessionists are unpatriotic and traitorous. They whine because their candidate lost an election. An election that was fair, despite attempts at suppression by many state governments, and decisive. 53% of Georgians voted for the candidate that lost. While I am pleased their candidate lost, I do understand the letdown when the one you believe in loses. Trust me, I felt that letdown in 2000 and 2004. But those who take that letdown and whine about it and try to undermine the process that has kept this country strong for 236 years are just ridiculous. Instead of spending so much of your time and energy whining and pursuing secession (something that will not happen), how about going out into your community and do something positive to make it a better place to live? Pick up trash in a park or alongside a roadway; work at a homeless shelter or a shelter for abused children and women; tutor a child in need of help. There are so many ways to be positive. I suggest you try or else you will find that the next four years are going to be very long while you wallow in your pitiful misery.

At the risk of beating a dead horse
, I must post Krugman’s words on this thread also, because they are, inadvertently, apt in describing the heart of the national secession movement:
“And I don’t think the Republican party as currently constituted can change this: after 45 years of the Southern strategy, this stuff is what defines the party’s soul.”
===========================================
From the book, “Washington: A Life,” by Ron Chernow:
“Although he held his tongue during debates, Washington was never a neutral party, and the interminable squabbling only reinforced his view that the country needed a potent central government to override the selfish ambitions of local politicians. . . .’I almost despair of seeing a favorable issue to. . .the convention’ he informed Hamilton on July 10, chastising ‘narrow-minded politicians. . . .under the influence of local views.’ “

But their petition copypasta’d part of the Declaration of Independence including ” the opinions of mankind requires that they should declare the causes which impel them to the separation.” They could have at least cited being butthurt over the election.

It’s been a little over a year since the peach pass lanes opened up on I-85, so it may be too early for any data yet, but I’m wonderin’ if this endeavor has been a success.
When I travel up and down I-85 (off-peak hours) those lanes are as empty as a pawn broker’s heart.

All hyperbole BS by drama queens….this idea of the city of atlanta succeeding from Georgia is interesting although unless they take north fulton with them, they will never survive financially..
So those asshats would like to believe. We’ll just tax their ass to allow them to come into our City. Oh, and they’ll need a passport.

“A 17 week pregnant woman has died after being refused an abortion that could have saved her life.”
the kicker – she was having a miscarriage – so it’s not even like the fetus could have been saved.

There are American villages in Mexico and the cost of living is cheaper.
Mostly seniors so the cons would fit right in.

What are the chances of this(secession) ending up as a catagory question on Jeopardy? Stranger things have happened. The American political science textbooks for universities in 2050 along with the American history books for middle and high schools will have a treasure of events to chronicle.
The rest of the world already figured that America has lost it’s mind.

If we were taxed to come into ATL, all of us asshats would just not go…we’d be delighted to keep our tax cash up here…we could probably reduce the onerous additional burden from being part of fulton county..
An effort is underway…Milton County needed Fulton in 1930 or whenever, Fulton needs North Fulton even moreso…
