Jindal: GOP should ’stop being the stupid party’

From Politico:

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal on Monday called on Republicans to “stop being the stupid party” and make a concerted effort to reach a broader swath of voters with an inclusive economic message that pre-empts efforts to caricature the GOP as the party of the rich….

“We’ve got to make sure that we are not the party of big business, big banks, big Wall Street bailouts, big corporate loopholes, big anything,” Jindal told POLITICO in a 45-minute telephone interview. “We cannot be, we must not be, the party that simply protects the rich so they get to keep their toys.”

He was just as blunt on how the GOP should speak to voters, criticizing his party for offending and speaking down to much of the electorate.

“It is no secret we had a number of Republicans damage our brand this year with offensive, bizarre comments — enough of that,” Jindal said. “It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party. We’ve also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism. We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.”

You mean saying things like women who are raped should enjoy it or do something about it- heretofore only heard from the likes of Bobby Knight. You mean “self deportation” whatever the hell that means. “Oh honey- grab the kids and grandma- I will call a yellow cab- Mexico City here we come”. You mean we not only shouldn’t raise taxes- we should lower them- brilliant! You mean elect a billionaire to run for office v. a “salt of the earth” person.?

Other than that the RNC was game on in 2012.

Power, money and ideology are very important to Republican politicians. However, getting elected and re-elected is even more important. So, Jindal is among the first of his Party to understand this as he gets ready to say and do anything, like Romney, to get re-elected.

When top Republicans start doing 180’s, again like Romney, you’ll know just how sincere and committed to “compassionate conservatism” they really are.

Many can’t even speak English so do you think for a New York minuted that ideology means a damn thing to them? They come from a country where the govt makes all of the decisions and controls most of the wealth. Why should it be any different in their “adopted” country? My wife honestly believes that the GOP is going to break up; some folks will leave for the TEA party (business-friendly types), some will leave for the Libertarians and what’s left might join forces with the Constitution party (religious conservatives), but she feels that the coalition of those interest groups is way past its Sell By date.

Rush is not * in* the party and is not a republican. That would be the titular head of the party Colin Powell, who has less integrity than Rush. It does not matter how inclusive the republicans are because there are democrats and media supporters who say * hey they really don’t like you. They just want your vote.* When Martinez, Haley, Love, and other minority women spoke at the convention, media coverage on major networks switched to discussions of other *news* stories. When Kerry Washington–closer to the 1% than any of those conservative women–delivered a long passionate whine about the status of women she received gushing praise. Jindal ought to know about the party of stupid, considering some of the things he’s said and done. So now, all of the sudden, he has seen the light? I don’t believe it for a second.

Also, opposing “the bailouts” is hardly a truly populist position, even the bailouts for Wall Street. The Wall Street bailouts weren’t about protecting the super-rich; they were about preventing our entire financial system from collapsing, which would have hurt the average person a LOT more than the Wall Street tycoons. The fact that Wall Street benefited was an “unfortunate” by-product. This continued opposition to the bailouts (Wall Street, Auto Industry, etc.) even now, after the overwhelming majority of economists find that they staved off the second great depression, clearly indicates that you might be one of the leaders of the “party of stupid.”

“Keep in mind that 49% of the people in this country simply do not want to live in a Bozo America.”

Keep in mind that we can argue all day what a mandate is or isn’t (Charles Krauthammer claimed Bush had one with less EC votes in 04), the election was not close in terms of the Electoral College and more than that 49% you mention did vote for Obama. Joking asides, I’m not one to care much about mandates. The President will have to work with Congress and vice versa. That means each will have to give and take.

English for most on the citizenship tests, yes. But for the deaf, the sign language is Italian, and for the blind, the braille is in French. For the deaf, dumb and blind, the test is given in a grueling series of pinata and pin the tail on the donkey tests. Then, the candidate for citizenship is asked to smell underwear and guess whether it’s from the CIA director, his concubine, or his wife. That’s politics in the USA, no more proper, no less idiotic.

Jindal is right. The GOP needs a message other than dismantle all government programs enacted since 1932 and lower taxes on the rich. That program just does not sell anymore. For those Republicans who continue to associate illegal aliens with the Democrats – lest we forget, it was almost exclusively, members of the Republican party who recruited them here, to exploit them as a source of cheap labor, e.g., the carpet mills in Dalton, poultry processors in Gainesville, onion farmers in S. Georgia. The unions(bastions for Democrats), fought tooth and nail to stop them.
Ultimately, it is the greed of the GOP elite that will end the party’s relevance.

November 13th, 2012

When Martinez, Haley, Love, and other minority women spoke at the convention, media coverage on major networks switched to discussions of other *news* stories.

When you can NAME or count off the women/minorities/gays in your party — then that’s your sign that your party probably isn’t as diverse and inclusive as you think it is.

When Kerry Washington–closer to the 1% than any of those conservative women–delivered a long passionate whine about the status of women she received gushing praise.

Perhaps because, like Will Smith stated, she also doesn’t mind paying a little more if it means that it’ll help other americans out. What a lot of the conned fail to realize is that you have to have a strong middle class to ENHANCE the richest 1%.

Without buyers at WalMart, (a place where the rich don’t shop), you wouldn’t have a super rich Walton family; no matter how cheap the goods. Without people having enough money to AFFORD to go to the movies, (Kerry Washington); then people like HER wouldn’t be able to make a living.

It all flows together folks, you can’t have one without the other. Bain can outsource every American job to China and India, but when the products come back here to America to be sold, if americans don’t have the money to buy them, then all Bain did was for nothing. They got only half of what they wanted, they got the cheap labor, they produced cheaper goods, however now they don’t have anyone to buy them.

Give Jindal props for trying but he of all people should know it will not work.

Yes, good thing too. There are a LOT of smart people in America, (see Tuesday’s election); and not everyone is CONNED into believing what someone tells them.

It’s amazing to see the evolution of some who follow the Republican platform. The belief that they can all of a sudden attract a wider voting block by simply saying we need to rethink our immigration position is so ridiculous it not even laughable. In their epiphany they see the Latino voter as their saving grace. This may be so if the Latino voter see’s themselves as the usable pawn in the game and tries to leverage this position. But the Republicans are still playing a short game and don’t seem to realize that there are Latino women, Latino LGTB groups, and Black Latino’s. I have yet to hear any of them say they need to court the Black voter. Republicans are coming out of the woodwork to draw all of the similarities between them and the Latino voters, like they are both socially conservative and family oriented. How both are church going and hard working. Amazing!!!This mass thought conversion is incredible in that some of the conservatives who have had this epiphany are some of the biggest race pimps in the country. The shortsighted shift of policy that focuses on just one demographic to gain votes instead of a complete rethink of positioning will continue to alienate the voters they seek since the people they are after are not blind to the reasons they are being sought.

This is the arrogance of the white male. It also exposes the lack of long range vision they have for America. It say’s the only way we will survive is if we get this group on our side. There seems to be no thought in their grand idea that we must build a better more inclusive America for everyone.

I see they had 90% voter tournout in back precincts in Philly. Amazing. The election proved a couple of things.#1 It’s hard to defeat an incumbent. Done once I believe in the past 80 years or so. #2 Hard to beat the party giving out all the candy when all the sweet tooth addicts are all in the same party. #3 Romney ran a week campaign as far as getting the candy lovers to understand that candy is bad for you and that one day your teeth will rot out if you keep being dependent on it. #4 More candy dependent people just means more dependency on the candy company. A house of cards that eventually has to fall apart when you simply can’t afford to give away free candy. Enjoy it while you can.

Oh by the way did you see where all the doctors have taken to the streets in France protesting their govt pay? That govt ran healthcare system is a wonderful thing, coming to a nation near you. Clearly it was to oust BO…but there is something to be said when almost 50% want him out…

There is something to be said. We live in an instant gratification, instant result fueled society. We no longer want to wait for anything, even if it’s steadying our economy which has been getting more and more screwed up over the past 3 – 4 decades. We expect things to get better overnight. We’ve lost our individualism in that many people now simply listen to tv or radio and allow others to think for them without even doing basic research to separate truth from fiction.

Read DDR’s post @ 10:37 in regards to Wal Mart and stuff. Over the past 40 years, we have had numerous recessions followed by “jobless” recoveries. We’re so focused on getting $$$ back that nobody’s ever stopped to question why we continue to lose jobs and not replace them when we recover.

Our financial situation would benefit greatly if we first focused on serious job creation here at home. I’m not talking about minimum wage jobs frying chicken at Popeye’s either. We need manufacturing jobs where we build a tangible product that can be sold here at home and abroad. We need engineering jobs here at home to invent and design these products. Once we get more people working here at home with decent incomes, you have more revenues coming to the government without the need of tax increases. You also help put programs like Social Security onto firmer ground with the increased revenue. After that, then you start the budget cutting and tax code overhaul. However, if nobody on tv or radio says that, nobody will even consider it as an option.

So how about a quote from your favorite president…… “The fact that we are here today to debate America’s rising debt limit is a sign of leadership failure. It is a sign that the US govt can’t pay it’s own bills. It is a sign that we now depend on ongoing financial assistance from foreign countries to finance our govt’s reckless fiscal policies. Increasing America’s dept weakens us domestically and internationally. Leadership means that “the buck stops here”. Instead, Washington is shifting the burden of bad choices today onto the backs of our children and grandchildren. America has a debt problem and failure of leadership. America deserves better.”

And the government should give it to them. And they will vote for this president no matter what. … These are people who pay no income tax. … [M]y job is not to worry about those people. Notes on the election.

Since the 1904 election Obama is one of 4 US presidents to win two
presidential elections by more than 50% of the popular vote cast.
Roosevelt, Eisenhower, Reagan & Obama. Rare company for a pinko
socialist islamic Kenyan with no birth certificate and a hang up on British colonialism.

Starting with Nixon in 1968 Republicans won the popular vote in 5 of 6 elections. The exception, Carter in 1976.

The Democrats then moved their party toward the center for the 1992 election.

Starting with Clinton in 1992 Democrats have now won the popular vote
in 5 of 6 elections. The exception being Bush in 2004.

Will the Republicans move their party toward the center? Or maybe more important will they “soften” their rhetoric?

If so, it will require not only the national party but the state parties to also join the move. It is hard to ask a Latino to vote for the Ryan Plan while telling them that their Tia Rosa must “self deport” or that Tio Miguel cannot pick watermelons in South Georgia.

It will be difficult to obtain the women’s vote by passing laws requiring vaginal insertions, saying that only some rapes are “legitimate” and calling women “sluts” when they testify before Congress on an issue.

Bottom line is you cannot call me worthless scum on Monday and expect me to vote for you on Tuesday. I would think that would be elementary politics.

And, no one has answered the big question. How in hell did the Republicans lose the election to an incumbent with the worse economy in over 80 years, the highest unemployment in over 80 years, with his Middle East policy in shambles and, if I may, he is black??????

Is it possible the Republican message is a generation out of date?

Why do we allow cheap sh*t to come here from China with little to no tariffs while they tax the hell out of things made here to be shipped there? On a totally different subject:

An Arizona woman, in despair at the re-election of Democratic President Barack Obama, ran down her husband with the family car in suburban Phoenix on Saturday because he failed to vote in the election, police said on Monday.
Holly Solomon, 28, was arrested after running over husband Daniel Solomon following a wild chase that left him pinned underneath the vehicle.

The American People’s (elderly, women, minorities, gays & lesbians, Muslims & Jews, etc.) voice was heard loud and clear durng the 2012 elections and it appears some GOP members were listening to their message. No longer can the GOP follow the lead of the homegrown terrorist group(s) known as the “tea party” (klansmen, skinheads, militia’s, birther’s, etc.). The “tea party” weapons of choice are hatred, fear and rage/mob mentality against the American People.

The GOP use to rely on all the Southern States and a few Northern States voting GOP winning 270 electoral votes. Not anymore. The USA has changed.

Bobby Jindel must be a “drum leader” for peace and justice. The GOP must recruit “moderate” candidates and create a winning strategy to hold on to as many seats as possible in the House and Senate for the upcoming 2014 midterm elections with the goal of re-capturing the White House in 2016.

however a true mandate is a 49/1 Reagan victory

Reagan had a mandate??? I guess that’s why he went spend happy and did all those tax increases and such. That second term unleashed the big government hounds and this country has never looked back.
++++
I like when people talk about mandates. 40% of the eligible voters did not vote while Obama won 30%. In other words more people did not vote than either candidate won. Comparing to Reagan to Obama Reagan won 58.8% to Obama’s 50.6%. Also Reagan won 18% over Mondale. Turnout was 53.1%. Obama won roughly 2% more than Romney.

The voters are very fickled so I think to believe you have a mandate is a mistake.

The year before Reagan took office spending was 21.7% by 1988 spending was at 21.3%. Revenues under Reagan in 1980 was 19 when he left was 18.2. All numbers are a precent of GDP. Reagan neither increase government or increase taxes. However, he did increase the deficit because he lowered taxes without any significant decrease in government spending.

What did Romney produce through his Bain Company?

“The firm was founded in 1984 by partners from the consulting firm Bain & Company. Since inception it has invested in or acquired hundreds of companies including AMC Entertainment, Aspen Education Group, Brookstone, Burger King, Burlington Coat Factory, Clear Channel Communications, Domino’s Pizza, DoubleClick, Dunkin’ Donuts, D&M Holdings, Guitar Center, Hospital Corporation of America (HCA), Sealy, The Sports Authority, Staples, Toys “R” Us, Warner Music Group and The Weather Channel.”

I know all you do nothing losers will complain he didn’t really do anything, but here’s the key to how this worked.

“Bain Capital was founded in 1984 by Bain & Company partners Mitt Romney, T. Coleman Andrews III, and Eric Kriss, after Bill Bain had offered Romney the chance to head a new venture that would invest in companies and apply Bain’s consulting techniques to improve operations.”

The part you mental midgets want to ignore is most or all of these companies were headed for failure if not purchased, repaired,or repurposed by Bain. This was not a corporate raider firm.

But ya’ll go on bashing them as if you have a dam clue how an actual business works. In fact, go bocott something in protest of people actually managing their own business.

hmm. I haven’t really posted on Jay’s topic yet, got lost in the weeds responding to this or that comment.

Here’s what I think sane-sounding GOPers like Jindal ought to focus on. I’ll quote from the article:

“The Republican Party is going to fight for every single vote,” he said. “That means the 47 percent and the 53 percent, that means any other combination of numbers going up to 100 percent.”

He’s on to something, but he and others have to be far more explicit. For starters, own up to your own party’s leadership role in creating these tax policies you now pretend to decry. Nobody pointed a gun to your heads and made you vote aye for EITCs.

Second, own up to just how disgusting it is for Americans like me, who have been fortunate enough to have HAD an income tax liability every year of my working life, to hear less-well-off working Americans described as “moochers,” and derided by the latter-day Ayn Randians as being somehow dependent upon “producers”–as if the wealthiest Americans actually produce anything of value (many, perhaps most, do not).

And then, adjust your policies and messages accordingly. It really shouldn’t hurt a bit.

I understand your point. The reality is this country has had a 200 year head start on those we are now competing against so the increase in wages for those countries will be slow in coming. We wont be “level” for some time. The problem is much greater than trade agreements even the best trade agreement will leave us without enough jobs for Americans who need them. Hence the need for a change of system.

The solutions will require a major paradigm shift and all heads are needed at the table. Which comes back to the reason for this conversation. A shortsighted Republican outreach (to the Latino voter only) will ensure the continual decline of this country. There’s going to have to be a “redistribution” of the power to determine outcomes, this can no longer be one sided. Every group has a place and once we figure that out we can then all work on becoming Americans together.

You should talk to kayaker about the mandate thing. He’s the one who said Reagan had a mandate. I was simply addressing his quote.

As to Reagan, he had roughly the same number of federal employees in the 1980’s as we have now, yet Obama’s called a big government president. Federal employees made up 1% of the work force then vs .5% now. Reagan may have done good in some areas, but in other areas, he’s no different than any other president when it comes to “big government”. I don’t praise him as some kind of superhuman president, nor do I castigate him as a failure. He’s simply human, and he’s done pretty much the same thing that all other presidents have done.

Your daily jolt: An invitation to Allen West from the Ga. GOP

Though he has yet to concede, U.S. Rep. Allen West, a former Army lieutenant colonel and Republican firebrand, narrowly lost his re-election bid last week.

So what’s in the cards for the coastal Florida congressman after his lame-duck duties are done? Sue Everhart, chairman of the Georgia Republican party, said Monday she would love it if West, an Atlanta native and Grady High School grad, returned to his roots.

“I would be glad to have him come back to Georgia and at some point run here,” Everhart told my AJC colleague Daniel Malloy during a discussion about diversity within the Republican party. “I would certainly try to help him because he has done his job. The way he ran his race didn’t in any way interfere with the job he did. He ran as a Republican, a conservative Republican.”

Everhart called the one-term West “one of the finest congressmen this country’s ever had.”

Returns show that West’s Democratic challenger, Patrick Murphy, edged out the incumbent with a winning margin of less than 1 percent.

Really? You couldn’t think of a better lie story than that?!? I outdo that one:

Last week, my church went to Whole Foods and bought up a lot of canned goods for the poor. We saw this woman who was _______________________ (enter race, ethnicity, and religious affiliation in blank), and she had on this expensive _______________________ (enter either jewelry or expensive shoes here); and was paying for her _______________ (enter steak or lobster here); with food stamps!!!

He’s right. The Democrats are the party of big business and bailouts and protecting Wall Street. That’s if you go by their actual actions instead of the rhetoric.

The best cognitive dissonance is when lefties talk about how bad big business is, and then defend the stimulus (a giant giveaway from us to big business). Sorry, you can’t raise a hew and cry about protecting big business while supporting actions that protected big business far more than just about anything else ever.

The real party of stupid is the one that buys into that contradiction 100%. The Democratic Party.

Not that their aren’t plenty of fools in the GOP. If they’d stop pandering to social conservatives, and answer questions about abortion with stuff like, “Changes to our current abortion laws are not and will not be on my agenda” and get with the newer generation on gay marriage then they would dominate. But they are too stupid to see that. In the end ridiculous strawman arguments won this election for Obama, not anything the GOP actually planned to do. There was no war on women, it was made up by the left. Romney wasn’t going to try to change Roe v. Wade, and he never would have.

But the scare tactics from the left worked really well, their sheep believed every word.

Heck on last tuesday Whole Foods is where I got all 10 of my ballots so that I could vote more than once. All i had to do was go there and say that I was recently deceased AND show them my dem card, (gotta show the dem card), and they gave me all those extra ballots!!

If i would’ve brought my neighbor’s mail and told them that I was actually Senor Rivera, and was an illegal who slipped past the border guards, I would’ve gotten TWENTY ballots!!!

++++
I like and agree with your last statement. I personally like all the presidents. They all have flaws. I think they are all trying to do what they think is right even if I disagree with it. Politicians and the media are the ones that go on about mandates but I think people will turn quick. I am amazed at how well the Dems did in 2008 then 2010 the GOP did well and now again in 2012 the Dems do well. Politicians should make note of it.

The standard of living includes factors such as income, quality and availability of employment, class disparity, poverty rate, quality and affordability of housing, hours of work required to purchase necessities, gross domestic product, inflation rate, number of vacation days per year, affordable (or free) access to quality healthcare, quality and availability of education, life expectancy, incidence of disease, cost of goods and services, infrastructure, national economic growth, economic and political stability, political and religious freedom, environmental quality, climate and safety. “You clearly have absolutely no idea what Bain did or how they did it”

Well, as you said yourself yesterday, everything that gets posted here is just opinion. So that’s just your *opinion,* RB. :)

“but you go on spouting some more of your misguided lies about them as if you do.”

RB, I don’t need to convince *you* of anything. What *you* think is beside the point. The fact of the matter is that Bain didn’t *produce* anything material, and that they *did* both revive businesses *and* extract remaining value from them, depending on which business case they determined they were dealing with. Either way, Bain could realize profit and make money — but not make anything *material.*

Bain didn’t preserve jobs out of any sort of altruism; Bain did it when they thought they could revive companies and then make a profit from selling them or taking them public.

You need to pay closer attention to what I *actually* say, not to what you *think* I said or what you *imagined* I’ve said.

To remove their assets from the jurisdiction of the IRS, they’d have to renounce their citizenship entirely, which causes an ‘exit tax’ to kick in on *every asset* they’ve got.
