Jindal: GOP should ’stop being the stupid party’

From Politico:

Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal on Monday called on Republicans to “stop being the stupid party” and make a concerted effort to reach a broader swath of voters with an inclusive economic message that pre-empts efforts to caricature the GOP as the party of the rich….

“We’ve got to make sure that we are not the party of big business, big banks, big Wall Street bailouts, big corporate loopholes, big anything,” Jindal told POLITICO in a 45-minute telephone interview. “We cannot be, we must not be, the party that simply protects the rich so they get to keep their toys.”

He was just as blunt on how the GOP should speak to voters, criticizing his party for offending and speaking down to much of the electorate.

“It is no secret we had a number of Republicans damage our brand this year with offensive, bizarre comments — enough of that,” Jindal said. “It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party. We’ve also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism. We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.”

There is still a bright spot…..at least that pud-face Gore did not get in…..I’m moderate but would go with Obama in a second over that idiot! Obama is well spoken and intelligent whether one agree’s with his politics or not. Gore, with his “lock-bokth” (yes, that is how he kept pronouncing “lock-box”) did manage to show there is idiocy on BOTH SIDES! Now, since he is Mr. Irrelevant, he gets to blame Repubs and coal for global warming, which is happening in the entire universe! Hopefully there will be some compromise on BOTH sides.

Well, genius – “Standard of living refers to the level of wealth, comfort, material goods and necessities available to a certain socioeconomic class in a certain geographic area. The standard of living includes factors such as income, quality and availability of employment, class disparity, poverty rate, quality and affordability of housing, hours of work required to purchase necessities, gross domestic product, inflation rate, number of vacation days per year, affordable (or free) access to quality healthcare, quality and availability of education, life expectancy, incidence of disease, cost of goods and services, infrastructure, national economic growth, economic and political stability, political and religious freedom, environmental quality, climate and safety. The standard of living is closely related to quality of life.”

RB — “Well, gee, little lying Joey, why don’t you explain to us all how saying they only “invested” in Sealy wasn’t just giving them money and no advice?”

No. Stop being a butthole, start talking to me like an adult and maybe I’ll play nice with you again. Continue being a demanding and argumentative Richard, and I’ll just keep yanking your chain, chew-toy.

And the first place you can start being polite is by putting up some support for your argument yesterday. Get me some data that supports your argument. The freight data I asked you for yesterday would be a good place to start. So get on it, RB.

“You clearly have absolutely no idea what Bain did or how they did it”

Well, as you said yourself yesterday, everything that gets posted here is just opinion. So that’s just your *opinion,* RB. :)

“but you go on spouting some more of your misguided lies about them as if you do.”

RB, I don’t need to convince *you* of anything. What *you* think is beside the point. The fact of the matter is that Bain didn’t *produce* anything material, and that they *did* both revive businesses *and* extract remaining value from them, depending on which business case they determined they were dealing with. Either way, Bain could realize profit and make money — but not make anything *material.*

Bain didn’t preserve jobs out of any sort of altruism; Bain did it when they thought they could revive companies and then make a profit from selling them or taking them public.

You need to pay closer attention to what I *actually* say, not to what you *think* I said or what you *imagined* I’ve said.

getalife — “First, do an audit and get money for the deficit.”

The beauty part of it is that even if they move overseas, as some internet commentors have expressed a desire to do, they’re *still* subject to US taxation. :D

To remove their assets from the jurisdiction of the IRS, they’d have to renounce their citizenship entirely, which causes an ‘exit tax’ to kick in on *every asset* they’ve got.

And once they’ve renounced their citizenship, hope they’ve managed to finagle citizenship elsewhere. Otherwise, good luck trying to physically *leave* the US without a passport. :D

A safe urban environment? You musta missed all the riots, train bombings, etc in Europe these last few years. Public transportation in the smaller villages and Towns sucks from what I remember. More Europeans would love to own cars. They just can’t afford to. A Lotta middle class folks in Europe either don’t own a car or a family owns just one. My dads landlord in Germany couldn’t afford a car. His landlord dude. I’ll take the u.s. Where even poor people own cars. Delta flies to Europe when you’re ready.

Alex – the bailouts of GM, Chrysler, AIG et. al. were not nationalization. While the government did become majority shareholders in some instances the businesses were not privatized. As for “too big to fail”…..that was a terrible plan authored by Alan Greenspan. Brokers and banks should never have been allowed to merge. In fact they should be made to seperate.

If we were truly looking at socialism we’d see the goverment seize companies such as Exxon, Apple, Microsoft, etc. Companies with tons of cash and healthy future revenue steams. They would not get involved with loser companies about to go under.
