Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal on Monday called on Republicans to “stop being the stupid party” and make a concerted effort to reach a broader swath of voters with an inclusive economic message that pre-empts efforts to caricature the GOP as the party of the rich….
“We’ve got to make sure that we are not the party of big business, big banks, big Wall Street bailouts, big corporate loopholes, big anything,” Jindal told POLITICO in a 45-minute telephone interview. “We cannot be, we must not be, the party that simply protects the rich so they get to keep their toys.”
He was just as blunt on how the GOP should speak to voters, criticizing his party for offending and speaking down to much of the electorate.
“It is no secret we had a number of Republicans damage our brand this year with offensive, bizarre comments — enough of that,” Jindal said. “It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party. We’ve also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism. We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.”

Deficit?
Which brings us to the economic level. The deficits that Bush ran up in the years in which the country was teetering on the verge of a serious recession had the beneficial effect of righting the economy. In that sense, deficits not only didn’t matter, but were a force for economic good.

Your daily jolt: An invitation to Allen West from the Ga. GOP
Though he has yet to concede, U.S. Rep. Allen West, a former Army lieutenant colonel and Republican firebrand, narrowly lost his re-election bid last week.
So what’s in the cards for the coastal Florida congressman after his lame-duck duties are done? Sue Everhart, chairman of the Georgia Republican party, said Monday she would love it if West, an Atlanta native and Grady High School grad, returned to his roots.
“I would be glad to have him come back to Georgia and at some point run here,” Everhart told my AJC colleague Daniel Malloy during a discussion about diversity within the Republican party. “I would certainly try to help him because he has done his job. The way he ran his race didn’t in any way interfere with the job he did. He ran as a Republican, a conservative Republican.”
Everhart called the one-term West “one of the finest congressmen this country’s ever had.”
Returns show that West’s Democratic challenger, Patrick Murphy, edged out the incumbent with a winning margin of less than 1 percent.

How in hell did the Republicans lose the election to an incumbent with the worse economy in over 80 years, the highest unemployment in over 80 years, with his Middle East policy in shambles and, if I may, he is black??????
Is it possible the Republican message is a generation out of date?
They lost because they SCARED THE SANE PEOPLE. You start talking about letting rapists have custodial rights to children that you are FORCING women to have — that’s scary.
Give people some magic dust and say it’s math and that, “It didn’t work those other times, but THIS time it will!” — that’s scary.

He’s right. The Democrats are the party of big business and bailouts and protecting Wall Street. That’s if you go by their actual actions instead of the rhetoric.
The best cognitive dissonance is when lefties talk about how bad big business is, and then defend the stimulus (a giant giveaway from us to big business). Sorry, you can’t raise a hew and cry about protecting big business while supporting actions that protected big business far more than just about anything else ever.
The real party of stupid is the one that buys into that contradiction 100%. The Democratic Party.
Not that their aren’t plenty of fools in the GOP. If they’d stop pandering to social conservatives, and answer questions about abortion with stuff like, “Changes to our current abortion laws are not and will not be on my agenda” and get with the newer generation on gay marriage then they would dominate. But they are too stupid to see that. In the end ridiculous strawman arguments won this election for Obama, not anything the GOP actually planned to do. There was no war on women, it was made up by the left. Romney wasn’t going to try to change Roe v. Wade, and he never would have.
But the scare tactics from the left worked really well, their sheep believed every word.

Ben – While you say Romney wasn’t going to overturn Roe v Wade, we do have him on video stating that he’d appoint Supreme Court Justices who would overturn it, plus we know his party’s platform supported the Personhood amendment. So, there’s a fair amount of evidence that you’re wrong, or that you believe Romney was simply lying. Compare that to the right’s belief that Obama is going to take their guns, begin drone attacks in the US, take away their 401K’s, etc. These were things, among much more, that were being used by right wing media to frighten people to vote Republican. Was there ANY evidence to support these beliefs, or was it pulled out of someone’s rear? So, there’s your difference (or, at least, a difference) between parties.

RB — “Yea, littly lying Joey”
If I ever *do* lie to you, I’ll be sure to let you know about it up front. You’re going to need that degree of explanation, because you’re clearly no good at distinguishing truth from falsity.
“we all believe Bain bought these failing companies and simply by having money, they all became successful.”
If you say so. I neither said nor thought any such thing, so if that’s what you believe, have at it.
“They were all very successful consultants before they purchased them”
Who? Bain? Or Sealy? (giggle)
“but I’m sure you’re right, they just gave them money and no advice.”
I neither said nor thought any such thing.
“You go with that little lying Joey.”
Why? I neither said it nor thought it. And the liar here is clearly you, RB.

Little lying Joey, “BTW, did you come up with those freight figures I asked for? ”
I do believe I asked you for the percentage of CNG/LP vs. diesel used to move freight long before you came back with your silly request. I still don’t have an answer for that, Joey. Do you really think anybody gives a crap about your requests such as that ^^^^ one when all you provide is piles of BS, a bunch of demands of others you are never willing to meet yourself, and are an arrogant jerk? Not likely little lying Joey.
Why don’t you humor us all and explain the difference between “taking somebody down” and ‘taking someone down a notch or two.”

SR, holy crap.
rogue hunters who like the idea of having a tough, exotic animal to pursue have trapped wild pigs and transported them into the commonwealth for release. Some have brought the pigs from as far as the Great Smoky Mountains of North Carolina. Dye says that some people from other states “have come forward” about stocking these pigs in Virginia,
As someone fairly familiar with Rock Creek Park, that gives me the willies.

Stevie Ray – Not saying that Bain is evil, but here’s an interesting article on one of their businesses and how it has possibly copied (to be determined in court) the design of American made tool and sent it to China for manufacture. The American designer is going to fight this in court, but, in the meantime, he’s having to lay off American workers. So, are they evil, or good, or just businessmen looking out for the bottom line?

LOL.
“It’s not going to be the last time anyone says something stupid within our party, but it can’t be tolerated within our party.”
It will be interesting to see if Mr. Jindal follows his own advice or just continues to be the good little 11th Commandment Republican he has been heretofore.
“We’ve also had enough of this dumbed-down conservatism.”
Ya think? LOL!
“We need to stop being simplistic, we need to trust the intelligence of the American people and we need to stop insulting the intelligence of the voters.”
THAT is going to be like asking pigs to fly!
My prediction is that these losers are going to lurch……………. even farther to the right!
Which is not necessarily bad news.
Anything, that hastens the end of neoconservatism is only a good thing. Even if by the unwitting political suicide of it’s zealots…

I do believe I clearly told you that I wasn’t MAKING that argument. And then I asked you to support the argument you WERE making.
“I still don’t have an answer for that, Joey.”
And I’m not a bit surprised. You’ll go on at length about others supposedly lying, but when you’re asked to put your cards on the table, suddenly you have to leave the game and go to the bathroom.

kamchak’s daughter, everyone knows that Whole Foods has the best prom dresses, and they give a 10% discount if you use food stamps.
Heck on last tuesday Whole Foods is where I got all 10 of my ballots so that I could vote more than once. All i had to do was go there and say that I was recently deceased AND show them my dem card, (gotta show the dem card), and they gave me all those extra ballots!!
If i would’ve brought my neighbor’s mail and told them that I was actually Senor Rivera, and was an illegal who slipped past the border guards, I would’ve gotten TWENTY ballots!!!
that whole foods is something else!

You should talk to kayaker about the mandate thing. He’s the one who said Reagan had a mandate. I was simply addressing his quote.
As to Reagan, he had roughly the same number of federal employees in the 1980’s as we have now, yet Obama’s called a big government president. Federal employees made up 1% of the work force then vs .5% now. Reagan may have done good in some areas, but in other areas, he’s no different than any other president when it comes to “big government”. I don’t praise him as some kind of superhuman president, nor do I castigate him as a failure. He’s simply human, and he’s done pretty much the same thing that all other presidents have done.
++++
I like and agree with your last statement. I personally like all the presidents. They all have flaws. I think they are all trying to do what they think is right even if I disagree with it. Politicians and the media are the ones that go on about mandates but I think people will turn quick. I am amazed at how well the Dems did in 2008 then 2010 the GOP did well and now again in 2012 the Dems do well. Politicians should make note of it.

Well, gee, little lying Joey, why don’t you explain to us all how saying they only “invested” in Sealy wasn’t just giving them money and no advice? You clearly have absolutely no idea what Bain did or how they did it, but you go on spouting some more of your misguided lies about them as if you do.
