An early, disguised hint of Petraeus affair?

UPDATE deserving of a “Seriously?!”

From the Washington Post:

“The collapse of the dazzling career of CIA Director David H. Petraeus was triggered when a woman whom he was having an affair with sent threatening e-mails to another woman close to him, according to three senior law enforcement officials with knowledge of the episode.

The recipient of the e-mails was so frightened that she went to the FBI for protection and help tracking down the sender, according to the officials. The FBI investigation traced the threats to Paula Broadwell, a former military officer and a Petraeus biographer, and uncovered explicit e-mails between Broadwell and Petraeus, the officials said….

The identity of the woman who received the e-mails was not disclosed, and the nature of her relationship with Petraeus is unknown. The law enforcement officials said the e-mails indicated that Broadwell perceived the other woman as a threat to her relationship with Petraeus.”

——————-

Back in July, the “Ethicist” column in the New York Times Magazine published a strange, anonymous letter that in hindsight probably set many a tongue wagging in Washington, D.C., and is doing so again in light of recent news events.

Here’s the letter:

My wife is having an affair with a government executive. His role is to manage a project whose progress is seen worldwide as a demonstration of American leadership. (This might seem hyperbolic, but it is not an exaggeration.) I have met with him on several occasions, and he has been gracious. (I doubt if he is aware of my knowledge.) I have watched the affair intensify over the last year, and I have also benefited from his generosity. He is engaged in work that I am passionate about and is absolutely the right person for the job. I strongly feel that exposing the affair will create a major distraction that would adversely impact the success of an important effort. My issue: Should I acknowledge this affair and finally force closure? Should I suffer in silence for the next year or two for a project I feel must succeed? Should I be “true to my heart” and walk away from the entire miserable situation and put the episode behind me?

NAME WITHHELD

As Chuck Klosterman, author of the ethics column, noted in his perceptive response, “The fact that you’re willing to accept your wife’s infidelity for some greater political good is beyond honorable. In fact, it’s so over-the-top honorable that I’m not sure I believe your motives are real. Part of me wonders why you’re even posing this question, particularly in a column that is printed in The New York Times… I halfway suspect you’re writing this letter because you want specific people to read this column and deduce who is involved and what’s really going on behind closed doors (without actually addressing the conflict in person). That’s not ethical, either.”

All I can say is that I feel sorry for Petraeus’s wife … I mean, going through this kind of crap must be bad enough on a personal level … but to have to go through it on the public stage – gah.

And his kids (his daughter only recently got married, herself)

awful. just awful.

If the country can last that long.

Yeah, I’m getting a LOT of that from right wing friends/acquaintances of late. I guess it’s to be expected, but seriously (and I’m sure you’ve heard this before) — if I could survive a second term of Bush, you can certainly survive a second term of Obama. Breathe… in, and out…

thus, my initial reaction to hearing of this, back on Friday.

Apparently there’s a very interesting loophole that basically absolves at least some American power companies from having to replace power poles on their own dime any more often than something like seven hundred years, if I heard right…

No one really knows why the cia director resigned. What he said perhaps was the truth and than news medias start a lot of guessing. to much hearsay adds fires to the blaze but to keep it going many keep adding fuel with hopes that it somehow comes back to the President and blames might somehow fall in the wrong laps while in so many cases that we really don’t know the real truth. CIA directors often do not get caught in the catch-22. I am sure this is not one of them. He told the truth and the bottom line we fail to accepted it and want something else negative since we live and see a lot of things here in America….negative.

From one of my dear Todd Rundgren friends

The time after an election is always emotional. Over my lifetime of political activism, there have been times I’ve personally been elated and times I’ve personally been heartbroken. That’s the way a democracy works and that’s why we love it. To those who are sad, I’m sorry you are hurting and I definitely know how it feels–of course we’ve ALL been on both sides of victory celebrations. Now we must move forward together, as one Union. We must love one another. Love is the Answer.

Doesn’t it sound a bit unusual that the FBI would be devoting agency resources to investigate allegations of ‘harassing’ emails between two females, only to discover and disclose that one of the women was having an affair with Director of the CIA? Lo and behold this discovery, along with Petraeus’ resignation and Hillary’s anticipated departure, will likely mean that neither will testify in the Benghazi hearings. Like other scenarios within the Obama administration, this one stinks to high heaven.

“how DO you think Obama won??”

I’ll resist the urge to say “well, he got more votes…”

You know me, I’d have to say it’s a multivariate thing (Word of the Day!)

Everything from the neocon self-indulgent primary that those outside the Republican base saw as a reason for revulsion, not attraction, to Democrats simply out-maneuvering the acquisitions guru; to muddled messages, including the influence of superpacs miscalculating what would resonate; to not opening up early and staying with what seemed obvious (Obama’s a good guy, but look at the economy, the deficit, he just wasn’t up to the task so let’s thank him and retire him); to not anticipating and quickly countering the overarching themes of candidate definition the Democrats employed; to the Party’s tendency, when it sees messaging isn’t working (particularly on the social issues) to become more entrenched and insular, not introspective and adaptable (I guess these guys really don’t believe in evolution as response to change and adaptability to survive); to their power brokers and media being more concerned with ratings and money than with charting a course to victory that has appeal to more than a minority percent of the populace; to… oh, how long to go on?

So they can adapt and survive or dig in and dwindle. I’m guessing after a whole lot of public self-flagellation one faction will emerge and drag most, kicking and screaming, into the new political reality while the Coulters and Bozells and Hannities and the like will disengage and run alongside, screaming invective and upping their book and speakers’ fees.

My apology for taking up a space on this blog!

My flight has landed from Vegas with a nice chunk of cash in my bag. Tired of the government taking so much from my winnings but it is what it is.

My friend just informed me that I blogged on the wrong site, I needed to post on Kyles instead. His posters are conservative, business like, they understand entrepreneurial people. His posters believe in taking risks for the good of individualism, not parity for the 47%’s!

Love Vegas, especially when you leave with $ in your pocket!

Good luck Dems / Libs!

I’m really going to make enemies, but I saw a picture or Petreaus’ wife, and she could “haint” an eight-story hotel by herself! Good Heavens, it is one thing to be ugly, but to be ugly AND let yourself go? She probably field-dresses at 250, and not more than 5-feet tall! The man had to do what he had to do………look at Kennedy., and he was married to a beauty.

broadwell’s husband — knew about the affair, but put up with his wife whoring around with the general for the $2-3 million she brought in from her book. He loves the green—nothing wrong with that.
