An early, disguised hint of Petraeus affair?

UPDATE deserving of a “Seriously?!”

From the Washington Post:

“The collapse of the dazzling career of CIA Director David H. Petraeus was triggered when a woman whom he was having an affair with sent threatening e-mails to another woman close to him, according to three senior law enforcement officials with knowledge of the episode.

The recipient of the e-mails was so frightened that she went to the FBI for protection and help tracking down the sender, according to the officials. The FBI investigation traced the threats to Paula Broadwell, a former military officer and a Petraeus biographer, and uncovered explicit e-mails between Broadwell and Petraeus, the officials said….

The identity of the woman who received the e-mails was not disclosed, and the nature of her relationship with Petraeus is unknown. The law enforcement officials said the e-mails indicated that Broadwell perceived the other woman as a threat to her relationship with Petraeus.”

——————-

Back in July, the “Ethicist” column in the New York Times Magazine published a strange, anonymous letter that in hindsight probably set many a tongue wagging in Washington, D.C., and is doing so again in light of recent news events.

Here’s the letter:

My wife is having an affair with a government executive. His role is to manage a project whose progress is seen worldwide as a demonstration of American leadership. (This might seem hyperbolic, but it is not an exaggeration.) I have met with him on several occasions, and he has been gracious. (I doubt if he is aware of my knowledge.) I have watched the affair intensify over the last year, and I have also benefited from his generosity. He is engaged in work that I am passionate about and is absolutely the right person for the job. I strongly feel that exposing the affair will create a major distraction that would adversely impact the success of an important effort. My issue: Should I acknowledge this affair and finally force closure? Should I suffer in silence for the next year or two for a project I feel must succeed? Should I be “true to my heart” and walk away from the entire miserable situation and put the episode behind me?

NAME WITHHELD

As Chuck Klosterman, author of the ethics column, noted in his perceptive response, “The fact that you’re willing to accept your wife’s infidelity for some greater political good is beyond honorable. In fact, it’s so over-the-top honorable that I’m not sure I believe your motives are real. Part of me wonders why you’re even posing this question, particularly in a column that is printed in The New York Times… I halfway suspect you’re writing this letter because you want specific people to read this column and deduce who is involved and what’s really going on behind closed doors (without actually addressing the conflict in person). That’s not ethical, either.”

Veterans’ Day. My dad. Air Force. Flew Gooney Birds in ‘Nam. Jugs in ‘44. Sabers in ‘51. He said he never landed or took off in Vietnam without someone on the ground throwing up small arms junk at him. Bravest man I ever knew. I could probably take a couple of incidents of flak before I put in for ground duty. He served an entire year in Nam in 1969-1970. He did his duty as God gave him the light to see that duty. He never wavered in his faith in both God and Country. He was conservative. He was disappointed in me, of course, and when I played his nurse for the last six months of his life, he let me know every single day just what a total failure he thought I was/am. But it didn’t matter. It was me or a nursing home, and no veteran, who flew combat missions in three wars, is going to a nursing home if I can help it. It was a privilege to assist him, make him comfortable, cook his breakfasts and dinners, (he rarely wanted lunch), and just plain appreciate him.

Thanks Veterans of America.

“Could you imagine Bill Clinton resigning over dishonor to his wife…… 1st of all you have to HAVE morals to have dishonor.”

And yet Newt Gingrich easily won the Republican primary here in Georgia.

Also, the diaper wearing Senator Vitter easily won re-election in La. I guess Republicans have no morals.

1164, welcome back. I was wondering where you’d been!

Georgia, you are a good son. You should be proud of what you did. I don’t even know you and I am…

I have prayed for America, I was made for America
It’s in my blood and in my bones
By the dawn’s early light, by all I know is right
We’re going to reap what we have sown

As if freedom was a question of might
As if loyalty was black and white
You hear people say it all the time
“My country wrong or right”

I want to know what that’s got to do
With what it takes to find out what’s true
With everyone from the President on down
Trying to keep it from you

Well, it was just a couple years on Guam and I’m awful glad I was there before it was in danger of tipping over, but I served. Anyhow, happy Veterans Day and thanks to my fellow vets. My years were a introduction to getting my azz kicked, and if you’re a solid Republican today, you’re thankful what you got Tuesday wasn’t anything new to you.

Have a good Sabbath everybody and if you’re a man be sure and keep it in your pants. You see what straying from the straight and narrow did for this Petraeus. There’s all kind of tempting women out there and they’ll grab your soul and send you to a dark place quicker than a New York minute.

Do you somehow think it makes us as a nation look grand when you and your talk show/fox puppet masters do it all the time? Somehow you are NOT emboldening terrorists? I mean if you have so little respect for our Country and the highest office in our Country, why would a terrorist?

Naw, I’d say it’s YOU who are the terrorist, the one who has done nothing but attempt to destroy our Country and demean us for the last 4 years. You will NEVER do anything to help this Country unless some asshat who is acceptable to your puppet masters is elected, which the way things are looking will be never. Instead you will work against us.

I just had the most awesome experience.

Ran into the local Kroger and on the way out stopped to give a few bucks to the guys collecting money for veterans. This older gentleman (turns out he was born in 1925, like my mom) and I got to talking and he told me that he served with Patton AND in the Pacific. When I told him that I was a vet (but nothing like him!) he shook my hand and put his arm around my shoulders as I saluted him.

I know the word gets overused sometimes, but to me, he is an American hero!

And my life is richer for having shared a couple of moments of it with him…

Actually, no, I didn’t see it or even who used it first and in what context, not do I plan to look back and find out. The word itself jumped out and this time it was Girlfriend, Please/subcategory nasty attitude, probably alcohol or drug induced… :-)

josef,

How about trump calling for a revolution over the election results?

Is he a traitor.

Or the gop official saying they should “divorce” our government?

Well, let’s just say he doesn’t take criticism very well! I don’t like the use of the word cavalierly either. To me it connotes an intent to harm, or actual harm, to this country. There’s nothing in someone criticizin this country, or even vowing to leave it, that comes even close to harm to the country.

Didn’t know about it, but I’ve no real problem with bringing it to public debate since Uncle Sam’s Redheaded step children sure didn’t have a lot of chance to say what they thought in how they came in to begin with…but, then, that was the age of slavery when people were bought and sold as a market product…

Comme les Québécois diraient, je me souviens! :-)

You should research it then before you jump to judgement. Doggone lacks the wit to understand, it’s too “subtle” and not literal enough. Two days in a row she has decided I’m her daily bitch at target, I wonder if tomorrow will be a third. Maybe her cycle it off. (THAT will set her off lol, I can hear her head spinning from here).

You could check out my 3:02. Or not. I’m going upstairs now for some girl time and NOT crazy girl time………. sweet little girl child time. SOMEONE has a recipe and school lesson to read lol.

As you know, I don’t hold Citizen Trump is very high esteem, but this is, after all, a revolutionary republic lest we forget…one of the reasons that bar is set so high..

A divorce? That’s what Judah P told Jeff Davis to call it…no charge of treason against the latter…that charge, though, was certainly in the works for the scion, of as Andrew Johnson called him, “from a race of traitors.” Was it Cantor calling for a “divorce?” If it was, he might be more careful…

I agree. As I see it, calling for a revolution is not treasonous. Actually starting one would be. But then I’m firmly in the “actions speak louder than words” camp.

It’s treason only if you lose…otherwise it’s national heroes!

But one of the things we do lose sight of is that there is revolution against the current regime and there is revolution against the state. Two different balls of wax.

“Two different balls of wax.”

I would say in attitude, maybe…but if it comes down to actual armed revolution, they they would be the same thing. But definitely not all “revolutions” are armed, by a long shot. (so to speak!)
