UPDATE deserving of a “Seriously?!”
From the Washington Post:
“The collapse of the dazzling career of CIA Director David H. Petraeus was triggered when a woman whom he was having an affair with sent threatening e-mails to another woman close to him, according to three senior law enforcement officials with knowledge of the episode.
The recipient of the e-mails was so frightened that she went to the FBI for protection and help tracking down the sender, according to the officials. The FBI investigation traced the threats to Paula Broadwell, a former military officer and a Petraeus biographer, and uncovered explicit e-mails between Broadwell and Petraeus, the officials said….
The identity of the woman who received the e-mails was not disclosed, and the nature of her relationship with Petraeus is unknown. The law enforcement officials said the e-mails indicated that Broadwell perceived the other woman as a threat to her relationship with Petraeus.”
——————-
Back in July, the “Ethicist” column in the New York Times Magazine published a strange, anonymous letter that in hindsight probably set many a tongue wagging in Washington, D.C., and is doing so again in light of recent news events.
Here’s the letter:
My wife is having an affair with a government executive. His role is to manage a project whose progress is seen worldwide as a demonstration of American leadership. (This might seem hyperbolic, but it is not an exaggeration.) I have met with him on several occasions, and he has been gracious. (I doubt if he is aware of my knowledge.) I have watched the affair intensify over the last year, and I have also benefited from his generosity. He is engaged in work that I am passionate about and is absolutely the right person for the job. I strongly feel that exposing the affair will create a major distraction that would adversely impact the success of an important effort. My issue: Should I acknowledge this affair and finally force closure? Should I suffer in silence for the next year or two for a project I feel must succeed? Should I be “true to my heart” and walk away from the entire miserable situation and put the episode behind me?
NAME WITHHELD
As Chuck Klosterman, author of the ethics column, noted in his perceptive response, “The fact that you’re willing to accept your wife’s infidelity for some greater political good is beyond honorable. In fact, it’s so over-the-top honorable that I’m not sure I believe your motives are real. Part of me wonders why you’re even posing this question, particularly in a column that is printed in The New York Times… I halfway suspect you’re writing this letter because you want specific people to read this column and deduce who is involved and what’s really going on behind closed doors (without actually addressing the conflict in person). That’s not ethical, either.”

It appears that someone closer to the government official than the husband wrote the letter published by the New York Times. The writer appeared to be very interested in the ongoing project, knew what was required of the person doing the work, and realized the significance of the project. This is an indicator that someone with regular access to the government official and a similiar background wrote the letter.

We attended a Veterans Day celebration today in Williamson, GA, a small town about 6 mi SE of Griffin. In addition to the many older aircraft there were displays of WWII gear, vehicles and exhibits. The highlight of the day was about half an hour one on one with a WWII veteran who had flown artillery spotter missions for General George Patton. Another gentleman in his early 90s flew P-51 fighter escort missions for B-17s and yet another spent about two years in a Stalag german prison camp after being shot down and surviving. The one thing all of these men seemed to have in common was their love of country and their patriotism. Nothing, even their families, seemed to have the status of the country that they fought and suffered for. Let us pause next Monday to thank these individuals for their sacrifice and their service to our country…….. they are indeed people that we should hold in our prayers.

I just have this natural tendency to worry about people who are making it too hard on themselves.
Our side makes Romney look really, really bad. Your side makes Obama look really, really bad.
The truth is that they are both very motivated men who wanted to have an opportunity to lead this country, probably for a variety of reasons, some good and some bad. Obama won.
I think he won because he moved rapidly toward the center after he was sworn in, and nursed us through the worst economic illness of almost a century. Pundits said, in large numbers, that the recovery might very well take a decade.
He was thrust into the executive position at one of the worst moments in our country’s history. I have been infuriated at his post-inaugural swerve to the right, but in sum, looking at the results of this election, I think it reflects badly on you that you give him so little credit for what he has accomplished in his relatively brief adult lifetime.

Veterans deserve much more…I’d never been to Golden Corral but some years ago, the North Point location was the largest grossing restaurant in the state…took one of my kids there…fascinating experience despite the food:-)
Given the fact that our troops IMO haven’t been sent to a necessary war since 1942, I think they deserve more than access to the food trough…if they don’t already pay taxes, they deserve lifetime exception..federal , state, local, and property..

Stevie Ray: Golden Corral is awesome. If you don’t eat healthy there it is your own fault. Their food is consistent from location to location and always hot and fresh. The breakfast they do is phenomenal as well. Again, if you don’t have a healthy breakfast it’s because you chose not to.
I haven’t been to one in years, and it’s never my first (or even 5th lol) choice, but if I’m with someone or a group and they decide to go to Golden Corral I won’t “not go” as I will with other places lol.

Are we living in a sick world of what, where people think any of these mega ego maniacs are worth watching your wife sacrificed to the betterment of a nation that would probably do very well without whomever. I have said many times and will continue to say gay marriage is not the undoing of this country, the undoing of the institution of marriage which bubbles into the undoing of family, the casualness of this execution, is exactly what is killing this country. We are all human is the catchall for this, but for a man to take another man’s wife, the mother of his sons and that same man be responsible for the decisions of life or death to thousands. ,moral decisions, is highly unacceptable. This same breach of logic and thinking will show up in other matters and weaken this country.

I think what Romney said about the 47%er’s was stupid and the least. However, I don’t see that as exactly what he meant in his collosal gaffe, not matter who (Left of FOX) take ill advantage of it…I still think the intent was to suggest that he conceded (most) of the votes in the income range of folks not paying taxes..to suggest that he specifically meant SS, Veterans, and others that are the common allegations by the majority of those on this blog is ridiculous..despite what he said..
I don’t view it as much different than what BO said about “building this..” except in this instance, his speechwriter left an opening as he didn’t correct until end of next paragraph..
All rather petty and typically hyperbolic, exaggerated, and sensationalized way of an electorate led around by the nose by pundits..

To be clear, I’m not a big supporter of FOX or any other news outlet…they are all biased but I do watch both with about the same (MSNBC, major networks) so if you are trying to categorize this by the traditional FOX, anti left agenda, please don’t.
Those on the lunatic fringe of either party anally analyse every word..up to and including puncutation…since hate and divisiveness rule with these folks, anything they can get to further class divide and sensational crap is the primary goal..
No way either meant, from the heart, the interpretation as suggested by the respective biased media…the election is over…it appears neither lost material votes as a result of either gaffe…Romney was correct in the respect that he would get no support from that demographic..the text supports this position, and BO was correct in the respect (despite poor wording knowing the media bloodhounds) that according to his party’s platform for decades, thinks big government should get kudos for the success of any and all..

They should. The luster in Tuscaloosa is off.
71, that was an awesome post last night. Salute!
And what I write next is NOT about me, I just want to relay the story.
I have three different customers who send me the most awesome Veteran’s Day cards.
These three ladies all rock! One is an attorney who helps veterans and families with their benefits and the other two are just great people, business owners and Americans.
Man, has the world changed since I got my discharge on January 1, 1977!
I never encountered any animosity by civilians (other than for the nine months that I was stationed in Biloxi, Mississippi – another story and a shameful one at that) but vets were just kind of ignored/tolerated back then.
Now?
The VA rocks the healthcare scene and without trying to get too political, Americans *see* the “handiwork” of our war-mongering administrations up close and personal.
AGAIN, this is not about me. But find a vet or active duty military family near you and see what you can do to help.
Then, we all win.

FRED,
I watched the video and has anyone brought up the humor in her choice of titles? They do resemble each other physically.
Anyhow, is there a reason you appear to have an unusually consistent woodrow attacking FOX news? It’s the media man…what do you expect? IMO the more attention we give the idea that media is news just suggests we are falling into the pundit BS traps that produce sensational and half-truthed commentary…can’t beleive the number of folks who believe most of what they hear from all the biased “news’ sources..
Gotta go…be good..

Just want to thank all vets for their service to the USA. Hopefully we will be out of the winless war in Afghanistan soon. What a waste of lives and money.

Romney was correct in the respect that he would get no support from that demographic..
Which demographic?? You talking about the 47% that don’t have a fed income tax liability?? If you’re talking about that group, then you and Romney both need to go back and look at the political leanings of the groups that belong to the 47%.
