CIA chief Petraeus quits over admitted affair
Didn’t see this one coming.
CIA Director David Petraeus, who as a four-star general led the “surge” in Iraq that allowed a somewhat graceful American withdrawal from that country, has resigned.
In a letter to CIA employees, Petraeus wrote:
“Yesterday afternoon, I went to the White House and asked the president to be allowed, for personal reasons, to resign from my position as D/CIA. After being married for over 37 years, I showed extremely poor judgment by engaging in an extramarital affair. Such behavior is unacceptable, both as a husband and as the leader of an organization such as ours. This afternoon, the president graciously accepted my resignation.”
I’m sure that in some quarters, this surprising event will be linked to some sort of conspiracy theory. (And sure enough, Rupert Murdoch steps up to make the claim).
I have no trouble believing that Petraeus withheld the news until after the election, out of respect for the process. But the notion that a man as reputation-conscious as Petraeus concocted or agreed to tell a personally shameful story like this as cover just doesn’t make sense.
There’s no indication whether the other party in the affair worked for the CIA. If so, it compounds the seriousness of Petraeus’ error. But either way, you can’t have a person in that job with that kind of personal secret to keep.
It’s a sad way to end an illustrious career, although I doubt this will be the last we’ll see of Petreaus in public service.

As for myself Jamvet, I’m tired of ESPN/ABC/Disney supporting the anal rape of little boys and shoving Penn State down my throat every week. They aren’t ‘victims” they are CRIMINALS. They covered up the rapes of little boys. Yet every week that crappy team, 5-3 now, is shown on ESPN, or ABC. Today is the FIRST day in months that there isn’t a headline (or three) about that crappy school on the ESPN college football page.
As to the Cornholers? I don’t blame them from running away to the Little eleven and leaving the Big Twelve. They aren’t good enough to be in the big 12 so that weak ass little 11 suits them. But the on hindsite, maybe they should have gone to the WAC. Oh wait, but then they would have to play La. Tech and it’s doubtful they could beat them either.

Look at Clinton if you must and if you had impeached him, the only man in decades to have balanced a budget and many consider one of the top ten greatest presidents ever, would have been lost to history. The right actually puts in nomination everything but pedophiles to run for president and then challenge the credentials of Clinton or Kennedy. Granted the General was head of the CIA and it doesn’t bother me he has resigned from this sensitive position, but to think that this guy compromised anything is more wing nut thinking. If anything he was a nerd, who spent most of his adult life living this sainthood everyone else expects, from other people not themselves, and until he was famous never had this temptation come up. It always tickles me to see a cool guy like Obama be a great family man, while all these nerd types are like kids in a candy store. O really isn’t cool he is just about the only adult in the room so he looks cool.

Yes, i’m a naive little school boy with more time in combat than you have watching John Wayne movies. please list for me the number of a10’s that have been shot down by AK 47’s. Especially from AK 47’s welded by guys in a fire fight on the ground. please give me the muzzle velocity and trajectory rate of an ak 47 round. Also include the speed and altitude of the Warthog. Please give me the impact speed of the ak 47 round after fighting the effects of gravity to reach 3000 feet while traveling a distance of 3000 feet.
After you calculate all THAT give me the odds of hitting a warthog. When you are done with THOSE calculations get back to me…….. oh and indigo? I know it makes you feel tough when playing COD to call others schoolboys, but here in the real world it makes you look stupid.

The A-10 is best described as a “flying tank”. Many planes have sustained damage that would knock other aircraft out of the sky and still maintained their flying ability. These pictures come from one that was hit by anti-aircraft fire, which is generally more dangerous than any round from an AK-47.

DDR: The schedule is actually determined each week. Other than conference/network contracts, ESPN pretty much chooses which games and when they will be broadcast. They CERTAINLY decide which ones will be on which of their networks. They don’t want to be stuck with 0-7 Kentucky playing Tulane on their nationwide feed at prime time lol.

Evidently there’s some reason to suspect Paula Broadwelll got access to Petraeus’s email account. If there’s any actual reason to think that, any evidence at all, it hardly matters whether she really did. That’s the ball game. You simply can’t have people thinking that the director of the CIA can’t even guard his email from his mistress. That completely explains his resignation.

The A-10 is one of my all-time favorites, that and the P-51D. For their time in service, I don’t think there’s any thing that matches the capabilities of those two aircraft at all. Here’s a more detailed story about Capt. Campbell’s flight that day.

More than anyone? Come on now. Bama has 9 polled national championships including 8 AP national titles. As for OU I think they have 7 polled national titles- 2 more than NU. No offense to the Huskers but when I see different folks try to rank programs on alltime accomplishments some people have OU as top 1-3 and almost always top 5 alltime program. NU is usually a top 7 or 8 alltime program but I never see them rated as one of the top 5 alltime programs.

Heard on one of those talking about news all the time shows that it’s very seldom the FBI is asked to come in and spearhead a CIA investigation.
Said that Patreus’ people HATED him because he was an “outsider” and was probably just waiting for the chance to screw him over about the girl, which of course they knew about all along.

Could be a tough day. I’ve had this game today pegged as the most worrisome game of the season. One is that its the 5th straight conference game, 2 is that its the week after the big LSU game so we have to worry about the hangover effect, and 3 Texas A&M has been the hottest team in college football these last few weeks. We are definitely on upset alert. I hope my worries are misplaced but if we lose a game this season this would be the one.

I have no information about how CIA insiders view Petraeus, but exposing other people’s scandals is a popular sport in DC, and I’m guessing CIA folks would have a natural instinct for the game. Plus, as I say, if they had reason to suspect she’d had access to his computer and might have been reading his email, some of them may have had legitimate concerns.

I think the disruption in airflow would make that a problem. Engines are designed to be efficient based on the airflow through the engine. Anything that disrupts that flow would have a negative effect on the performance.

Even in the last 50 years I think Bama has more titles. We had AP titles in 61,64,73, 79,92,09, and 11. And we won the UPI national title in 78. UPI was of course the other of the 2 major polls at the time. In any event that’s 8 polled national titles in the last 50 years and I might be missing one since I’ve read that there are 9. The polls I don’t think started until 1936.
Now you can always have some idiot out there who may dispute that Bama has 8 or 9 polled national titles but all the idiot has to do is look it up.

I think it depends on the region that you’re in. In Louisiana they eat a lot of lamb, as well as quail, duck, fish, shrimp etc. But generally you’re correct, Americans tend to eat less lamb but more beef.

I read a biography about them — didn’t know that they’re father made his millions from dealing with the russians during the time when russia was NOT a friend; and continued to deal with them after they were an enemy. Also their father despaired the integration of public schools, (as they do), saying it was the “b@#stardization of america”. You have to wonder about growing up with that type of a person as a father who’d do and say those sort of things.
