hey … did I mention that women pretty much rocked the vote yesterday:

According to exit polls, Obama won 54% of the women’s vote nationally, against 45% for his challenger. In fact, Obama won the women’s vote in almost every swing state: by 51 to 48 in Florida, 55 to 44 in New Hampshire, 52 to 47 in North Carolina, 53 to 46 in Virginia and 57 to 43 in Iowa.

This is certainly a significant contest. Not Republicans vs demoncraps, right vs left, liberals vs conservative: the workers vs the bums and the bums won. The only good thing to come out of this disaster is when we lose our health care in 2014 and are forced into zerØcare it will totally destroy our healthcare systems and plunge us into a depression. This will induce the third American revolution. We won the first one against the Limeys, lost the second to the Yankees, and in the third we will battle the bums. USA, RIP.

And to do the latter we have to fix our Hispanic problem as quickly as possible, we’ve got to accept science and start calling out these false equivalencies when they occur within our party about things that are just not true, and not tolerate the intolerant.””

That said, Reagan’s removal of the Fairness Doctrine created the AM/FOX conservative yelling. And it is that loud-mouh obnoxious child that has become an albatross to the reasonable voice, which even the libs miss.

B. Steel — “Kyle’s discussion of correcting the party with better communication of conservative principles is cute. But ignoring the loudmouth reprobates and vapid Palin-esque in conservative propaganda makes his analysis look deluded.”

It doesn’t just *look* deluded; it *is* deluded.

It’s the same kind of self-indulgent confidence in the objective correctness of one’s message that drives some christians to keep evangelizing in the USA; as if the vast majority of Americans haven’t actually *heard* the christian message *dozens* of times in their lives. IMO, the notion that what American evangelistic christianity and what American conservatism needs is MOAR MESSAGE DISCIPLINE and TURN UP THE VOLUME is just patently foolish. The messages are getting out fine, and they’re being *heard* fine, too. They’re just not being *agreed with.*

At this point, conservatives raising their voices to get their message out better is like an American tourist in a foreign country; raising his voice so that the foreign souvenir-seller can understand him better — without bothering to ascertain whether the merchant speaks English or not, or whether he just doesn’t want to bargain with the obtuse American bonehead who’s standing in front of him and shouting.

gogators and Thulsa – this was not as amendment allowing “better schools”, as you both appear to believe. Charter schools are somewhat common in Georgia.

This was a an amendment to allow the decisions of a duly-elected local public body to be invalidated by a group of folks appointed by the governor. If you’re both big-centralized-government types, cool, we can discuss it on that level. I just wanted to make sure you understood what you were talking about. :)

Voters Challenge Charter School Amendment

November 7th, 2012
11:23 am

ATLANTA (CN) – Georgia’s governor is using misleading language to try to sneak a constitutional amendment past voters, to create “a third public school system” to funnel money to profit-seeking private companies, voters claim in court.
Beverly Hedges and the Rev. Timothy McDonald sued Gov. Nathan Deal in Fulton County Superior Court. Hedges is a public school teacher and McDonald is senior pastor at First Iconium Baptist Church in Atlanta.
They claim the state placed “affirmatively misleading language” in the amendment’s preamble, including language that was rejected by the Georgia General Assembly, to deceive voters about the scope and impact of the amendment.
The purpose, the voters say, is to “create a duplicate bureaucracy for charter school approval.”
“Not having succeeded in passing this deceptive, confusing and affirmatively misleading language through the legislative process, defendants have brought this language in the back door as the preamble to the actual language chosen and passed by the General Assembly which itself presents an inaccurate picture of the dramatic constitutional changes proposed,” the complaint states.
“The ballot language is fatally flawed, because the preamble language prescribed by the governor and designated by the Constitutional Amendments Publication Board when combined with the proposed amendment is affirmatively misleading.
“First, while the ballot language states that the amendment is necessary for ’state and local approval of public charter schools,’ the Georgia Constitution and laws already permit charter schools. Even if a local school board denies an application for a charter school, existing law includes an appeal process to the state.
“Second, while the ballot language speaks to ‘public charter schools’ and the preamble to ‘improving student achievement and parental involvement,’ the amendment actually allows for the creation of a third public school system (that may have for-profit motives of private companies). This third public school system lacks any direct accountability to local voters/parents and drains state money that would otherwise go to local school systems.
“Third, the preamble (in bold font larger than the actual language passed by the General Assembly) contains unbalanced electioneering, making biased and unsupportable promises of ‘improving student achievement’ and increased ‘parental involvement.’” (Parentheses in complaint).
The Georgia General Assembly approved the proposed charter schools amendment, HR 1162, in 2011, after rejecting a version that contained language similar to the current preamble, according to the complaint.
“Contrary to the ballot language, HR 1162 actually would create a state commission that can authorize charter schools across the state of Georgia, and would re-establish a statewide commission that would have the power to approve charters even over the objections of local school districts,” the complaint states. “The constitutional amendment would drain funds from traditional public school systems and allow public money to be used towards for-profit charter facilities. Additionally, this constitutional amendment would direct current taxpayers’ dollars to benefit and increase profits of out-of-state for profit charter school organizations.”
The plaintiffs say the preamble language could shift voting results on the constitutional amendment by as much as 10 percent.
They claim that passage of the amendment “would actually divert $430 million from the schools to create a duplicate bureaucracy for charter school approval.”
They seek a declaration that the ballot language is unconstitutional, and want enforcement of the amendment enjoined if voters approve it.
They are represented by Gerald Weber.
Also named as defendants are Lt. Gov. Casey Cagle and Secretary of State Brian Kemp.

You definitely prove that you can’t fix stupid. Local school systems already have the ability to set up charter schools to give parents a choice for schools. What you stupidly voted for was to give the state government power to overrule the local wishes of the people who pay local taxes for schools. However, given your track record here, stupid is as stupid does.

The Charter School amendment was a phoney issue. People already had the choice to set up a charter school within their district. If the school board didn’t agree then you vote those people out at the next election and get people who want charter schools. With this amendment you now have an unelected, unaccountable board that will make the decision for you whether or not you want them to.

So much for small, non-intrusive government.

Of course we’d have to borrow more but the DEMS and their economists don’t feel debt or deficits are really a problem..not good for business but ok for gubment..

The Mexican percent just keeps going up. Meanwhile Those People are holding steady at 13%. It’s time to open our homes to the Mexicans and lie to them like a lazy dog if we ever want to have the White House and Senate again. I can’t hardly beleive they’d get so upset about Mitt’s saying he was going to starve them out and let them self-deport.

Looks like the women are POed at us too. Better learn to fall in love with abortion and birth control and stop saying what we really think. The young people don’t like us neither and Those People just keep on voting for the librul Democrats in big numbers.

If we don’t change quick our grandkids are going to talk about their granddaddy being a Republican like we talk about people that were Whigs.

We both know that the unions would never allow a shakedown of $75 billion over ten years..heck they’d close down the government!

What is the plan to make sure this money isn’t already spent, which is a given, and the 94%? I’m waiting and hope I’m missing something..

Put another way, our deficit will grow another $5 trillion (at 4.25 trillion a year) and trillion minimum more if our cost of debt increases, regardless of who occupies WH, that’s $5 trillion by $800 billion and thats assuming it won’t be sucked up in the other overspending which I think has already happened..

Ergo, we really need to have a plan for the other $4.2 trillion? I must be missing it? We both know we will see no sustained cuts in spending for political reasons…nothing will change..how long do you thing we can continue down this path?

Normally people say when you are looking to solve a problem ask the people who actually do the work. They are closer to the problem and can tell you how things really work. So to me the answer is simple – let the teachers help solve the problem. There is no union in Georgia so that argument is moot point. In those locations that have unions, work with them instead of threatening them. That would go a long way on getting a solution.

++++++++++++++++++++

You are arguing to seperate entities Doomy and trying to “equate” them.

Charter schools are cool. Some of the better schools in Georgia are charter schools. Beofre this money grab, local communities COULD form charter schools. If local school boards said no, they could appeal to the State School board and STILL get a charter school. That has nothing to do with amendment one as you fully know.

Amendment one creates a double secret double nought commision appointed by Nathan Deal and answerable to no one BUT Nathan Deal that decides willy nilly where to put an UNFUNDED Charter school and then steals money from that local school system to “pay” for it. The local system doesnt’ run that “charter school” no some special privately owned supposedly “not for profit” company run by people like Dorothy June Hairston Brown. Ms Brown of course is under federal indictment for stealing over 6.5 million dollars from Philly schools but she is by no means the only one doing this, nor the only one being indicted.

Now for you completely insane “school competition” thing. Are you completely unaware of the BILLIONS that for profit Universities have cost this Country? The operators aren’t, why do you think they are clamoring to become the “competition” for public local schools. More money to steal.

You should educate yourself Doomy and quit spouting the f’ing party line as they steal tax payer money. You are too smart for that. Unless of course you are one of the thieves who stand to benefit directly off this thievery.

Doom — ” Hyperbole doesn’t make for a good argument. The fact of the matter is that charter schools around the country do a decent job. Why are you guys so afraid of new ideas and competition? Does competition not create a better product?”

Doom, did you not read the proposition before you voted on it?

It wasn’t a vote to permit or deny charter schools; they’re already permissible under state law. School districts can already set them up, and if parents get rebuffed by school boards, they can go to the State Board of Education to override the local school board’s refusal.

It sounds to me like you don’t even know what the referendum issue was about.

What a fantastic night for America. Landslides on marriage equality and marijuana reform. Although unlike most papers, this doesn’t even seem to be mentioned on ajc’s front page. The country has finally evolved and moved beyond the hatred and ignorance of the Christian right. You can be proud to be an American again.

0311 — “Best synopsis I’ve heard yet as to why Romney lost the election”

Romney lost the election because he was a spitty candidate who ran a spitty campaign.

The people saw him, heard him and decided to stick with the other guy.

There’s your explanation; you can quit looking for excuses now.

My answer is, as I have consistently posted, that we are getting raped

Your Bertrand Russell quote insinuates that I misunderstood your references, but now you are confirming that my original assertion is true.

Rape is not a joking matter to be taken lightly, as I am sure that Todd Akin and that other republican asshat can confirm

He was basically laughed at by a good percentage of his party and those who vote Republican.

I’m a fan of charter schools offering alternatives to poor public schools in certain areas. . .I just don’t want people/groups to be able to set up shop with public funds to do it.

I think the wording was misleading.

I’m not 100% certain on this, but I don’t believe they can do that. They still have to follow the state pay scale, as well as the local supplement pay scale in regards to years of experience.

Stevie Ray: what purpose exactly does the union serve this astounding number of folks?

Conflict management, representation in administrative hearings, contract negotiations to cover scheduling, vacation, and other personnel issues.

Anyhow, my perspective still remains..BO and his constituency wants to play small ball…7.5 billion cut here, and additional $80 billion there…

You still fail to recognize the significance of getting a group that is beholden to no increases at all to concede to increasing revenue, even if it’s a small, insignificant amount. If Obama and the Dems got the GOP to agree to a .5% tax increase, I would celebrate as though Alabama won the national championship as that would signify that Grover Norquist’s grip is loosening, and that, more than anything else, is what this country needs. Once we can break that mentality, we can begin to address debt and deficit management in earnest.

No cat. Republicans will NEVER admit they made a mistake or hold their leaders responsible for stealing. They knew Nathan Deal was a thief when they nominated and elected him. They WANT him to steal them blind. He’s the white republican man’s version of Eddie Long or Creflo Dollar.

Reasons Willard lost and did not get my vote even though I voted for McCain.:

1. Draft dodger who protested for the war while his father lost to Nixon for telling the truth about how we were being lied to by the military that the war was being won. Then Mitt hires Dan Senor who got paid by Bush to lie about Mission Accomplished for our puppet government in Iraq.
2. Bill Clinton showed up and made voters understand what Obama accomplished and why Romney was a bullsh—er;
3. Paul Ryan was a hypocrite and liar with his voting and stimulus history;
4. Chris Christie
5. “We gave you people all you need” comment;
6. Profiteering off of the auto bailout through Delphi
7. lying about outsourcing and offshoring of jobs;
8. GOP obstruction in Congress;
9.tax cuts for the wealthy
10. George Bush
11. and getting in bed with the worst of the Neocons and not having a clue about foreign affairs.
