There’s truth being told in conservative circles today, for those who are willing to hear it.
Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, for example, appears to be throwing his support behind the so-called DREAM Act, which would allow young immigrants brought here illegally as children to attend college and earn citizenship:
“In the next Congress, I am committed to working on upward mobility policies that will ensure people who work hard and play by the rules can rise above the circumstances of their birth and leave their children better off. The conservative movement should have particular appeal to people in minority and immigrant communities who are trying to make it, and Republicans need to work harder than ever to communicate our beliefs to them.”
And Conor Friedersdorf, writing in The Atlantic, asks why so many of his conservative colleagues were shocked and surprised last night, given that the outcome had been predicted for weeks by polls and expert analysis.
His conclusion: Because under the business model employed by the right-wing media at Fox News and elsewhere, it is more profitable to tell conservatives what they want to hear, not what they need to hear.
“But guess what?” he asks his fellow conservatives.
You haven’t just been misinformed about the horse race. Since the very beginning of the election cycle, conservative media has been failing you. With a few exceptions, they haven’t tried to rigorously tell you the truth, or even to bring you intellectually honest opinion. What they’ve done instead helps to explain why the right failed to triumph in a very winnable election.
Why do you keep putting up with it?
Conservatives were at a disadvantage because Romney supporters like Jennifer Rubin and Hugh Hewitt saw it as their duty to spin constantly for their favored candidate rather than being frank about his strengths and weaknesses. What conservative Washington Post readers got, when they traded in Dave Weigel for Rubin, was a lot more hackery and a lot less informed about the presidential election.
Conservatives were at an information disadvantage because so many right-leaning outlets wasted time on stories the rest of America dismissed as nonsense. WorldNetDaily brought you birtherism. Forbes brought you Kenyan anti-colonialism. National Review obsessed about an imaginary rejection of American exceptionalism, misrepresenting an Obama quote in the process, and Andy McCarthy was interviewed widely about his theory that Obama, aka the Drone Warrior in Chief, allied himself with our Islamist enemies in a “Grand Jihad” against America. Seriously?
Conservatives were at a disadvantage because their information elites pandered in the most cynical, self-defeating ways, treating would-be candidates like Sarah Palin and Herman Cain as if they were plausible presidents rather than national jokes who’d lose worse than George McGovern.
How many months were wasted on them?
How many hours of Glenn Beck conspiracy theories did Fox News broadcast to its viewers? How many hours of transparently mindless Sean Hannity content is still broadcast daily? Why don’t Americans trust Republicans on foreign policy as they once did? In part because conservatism hasn’t grappled with the foreign-policy failures of George W. Bush. A conspiracy of silence surrounds the subject. Romney could neither run on the man’s record nor repudiate it.
The most damaging Romney gaffe of the campaign, where he talked about how the 47 percent of Americans who pay no income taxes are a lost cause for Republicans? Either he was unaware that many of those people are Republican voters, or was pandering to GOP donors who are misinformed. Either way, bad information within the conservative movement was to blame.”
The piece gets stronger from there, including language I’m not allowed to publish on this blog. If you’re a conservative seriously concerned about your movement’s future, I highly recommend it. Because if you don’t get this part right, you cannot get the rest of it right.

In 2000 Gore had 500,000 more popular votes than Bush but lost in the Electoral College after the SCOTUS stopped the Florida recount.
I don’t care what you call this victory, but the fact is the American People sent a message to the oligarchs and gazillionaires that they weren’t going to buy the Oval Office to use to their own advantage.
And, I rejoice that the Koch Brothers, Sheldon Adelson, Karl Rove et al saw hundreds of millions of dollars circling the toilet being flushed down the sewer. Thanks, Citizen’s United!

With Obama what was the worst they said about his Senate stay? That he voted “Present” a few times? Nothing more. They couldn’t find any illicit funds, (trust me they looked), or any ties to Big Business. They couldn’t find any “outside woman”, (and i bet you $1 they looked really HARD for any hints of an affair; because he was living in D.C. while Michelle and the kids were back in Chicago); so like Biden said, “He’s really clean”.

DDR – I’m about as big a fan of E. Warren as there is but I doubt she aspires to be president. She’s a tireless advocate for fairness and the middle class but I’ve never heard her say anything about foreign policy or other issues that a president has to deal with. Maybe that will change but that remains to be seen. Hillary, on the other hand, is probably the best qualified candidate in either party.

This is way, way off topic. However, I know there are many fans of football here, and I have just gotta share this video. This is what a pure running back looks like.

Staib doesn’t hesitate when asked about the hitting. He says Sam loves to tackle and even goes after Tank whenever she gets the chance. He’s not worried. Brent says only once did Sam get shaken up from a hit. She came out of the game, rested for a few plays, then returned to score a touchdown.
“Some kids, right before the contact, they stop,” Sam told her father. “I don’t. I just hit ‘em.”
“That’s not something I taught her, “Brent says.

I was tempted to ask some of the mourners I saw out and about today about the traditional length of time a Republican spends greiving their election loss and also why they were not dressed in black.

Butch,
She moved to Canada because that is where she wanted to go (and her husband is Canadian) but in reality Canada is a way less regulated society than the US and she gets to keep much more of her earned income and inherited resources than she did here. . Her older sister is visiting Santiago Chile Christmas and I would be thrilled if she and her husband decided to relocate there; a beautiful place and country.

Let’s be honest here, there is no integrity in the media, period. There is no such thing as an unbiased media outlet (present company included). Conservative, moderate, liberal, you name it, they ALL spin it to there advantage. There are few, if any, exceptions. Just saying…

Does she realize that she will have true socialized healthcare in Canada? Also, she will still have to file taxes as a US Citizen living abroad.

I guess its time to put all my money in overseas accounts before January. There is always a way to keep libruls out of my paycheck. I have learned that facts and truth dont matter. The next four years the conservatives should compromise and raise taxes spend and demand laws be passed for the most vile disgusting behavior you can think of. And talk to everyone how you will give them free stuff. The northern and western voters want free stuff. The conservatives must start running on this platform…vote for me and get a car!

FWIW, I think McCaskill and Klobuchar have served one term each in the Senate. So in 2016, they’d have 10 years in office. I don’t think that’s too much, but YMMV.
Good choices — I’m just partial to Warren. I like ‘em smart and tough.

Allright, I’m sneaking outta here. I have accomplished NOTHING all day and I’m basically just taking up space and wasting some really good stale regurgitated air.

Hi Josef,
Good to see you are still kicking!
p.s. Taxpayer. Actually I was dressed in black with a black hat (with Russian Copic badges on it). But that was not for the Republicans (who, btw. took over all major state offices in my home state NC yesterday) but for the country for which I went to VietNam and no longer exists.

Yes conservative media did not do its job, But the Liberal media did not do its job for the American people. Completely ignoring the administrations bloopers and mistakes. And not following up on the disaster in Libya and that whole mess. Where our people were murdered. Since O,bama was re-elected I will do what I can to support his presidentcy, and not say hateful things. I just wish you people in the media would be HONEST and FAIR on whoever is in the Whitehouse If its a stupid decision call it a stupid decision.

Brosephus,
not if she renounces her citizenship, she already had applied for Canadian citizenship and has a passport. She traveled as a Canadian on a Canadian passport this summer to the Olympic games in London. My family is Welch even though we have been in the US since 1793.
