Boehner: ‘We’re willing to accept new revenue’
It’s a long, torturous road from word to deed, but this could be huge …
“Republicans are “willing to accept new revenue” to tame the soaring national debt and avert an ugly battle over the approaching “fiscal cliff,” House Speaker John A. Boehner said Wednesday in a speech that offered a potential path to compromise in year-end budget negotiations.
With President Obama reelected and Republicans returned to a slightly smaller majority in the House, Boehner (R-Ohio) said Tuesday’s election amounted to a plea from voters for the parties to lay down their weapons of the past two years and “do what’s best for our country.”
“That is the will of the people. And we answer to them,” Boehner said, according to advance excerpts of a speech he planned to deliver at an afternoon news conference at the Capitol. “For purposes of forging a bipartisan agreement that begins to solve the problem, we’re willing to accept new revenue, under the right conditions.”
We’ll see what Eric Cantor, Tom Price and Paul Ryan, among other GOP House members, have to say about this. Boehner also repeated his opposition to raising revenue by increasing tax rates, suggesting that he would accept doing so by altering the tax code. But the ice might be breaking.

Grab your wallet, any time you hear Republicans talk about broadening the tax base; their goal is to lower the tax rates at the top, by taking away certain itemized deductions or worse yet, their latest gimmick is capping itemized deductions so low, the middle class gets screwed. Mind you Romney’s plan was to make his prime income totally tax free, then limit his personal deductions (what a hoot!, It takes a lot of brass to propose, a “let them eat cake” tax plan). Most of us would have the decency not to write off an equestrian hobby, as a $72K medical deduction, and then next year propose limiting total itemized deductions to $17K to the 100%, while most of the 1%ers would essentially get all their income tax exempted. The richest of the rich, are not salaried. They have their people lobby for special tax exemptions.

I remain optimistic for the return to traditional Americanism which has sustained our greatness for many years.
Yet, you fail to realize that your own post describes the idea that the current Democratic Party represents a true “melting pot” which is what traditional Americanism is all about. America wasn’t great because of some White, Protestant image. America has been great because anybody and everybody has the potential to be great. At least it was that way until recently.

TBS, you’re correct, Gallup and Rasmussen really messed up. They were close on cold numbers that showed a close national race but messed up big time assuming that it would translate into the state races. The Democrats cleaned the Romney campaigns clock in the ground game.

None of them are has consistent as they claim to be, when looking at election to election. And even breaking down the states and of course the Senatorial and Congressional elections.
Each of them will pick where they did well the last time and tout it as they are the best.
Rasmussen was at or near the top in 08. Gallup has missed on several of the last few elections.
To be honest, I think Rasmussen is better than Gallup, even-though he missed yesterday

In my little world what I have observed: (Antecdotal, so TIFWIW) is that young working professionals are most distressed about the outcome of the election, whether they be male/female white, black, or latino. Old white guys like me, not so much.

I didn’t say that I was not worried about the outcome of the election. My point to Recon and his bigoted and racist diatribe earlier is that, the exit polling shows what he said, but there is no way to prove his reasoning for the voting trends. Nor is there any tangible evidence to show things will reverse anytime in the near future. That’s all wishing and hoping.
When people come here and post crap like that, people like me take notice. I’m young and Black, but I am not smitten by Obama or the Democratic Party. I voted Gary Johnson on Tuesday because I would much rather have a 3rd party on the Georgia ballots than be forced to vote between the lesser of two jackasses because of the dumbass choices that the parties put forth each election. However, according to bullsh*t such as Recon posted, I am Black therefore I vote for Blacks and Democrats, case closed. Posting insulting sh*t like that will never get someone like me to even consider calling myself a conservative, much less associating with anybody who thinks that way.

As a life-long liberal the present situation requires compromise and that includes cuts, cuts, and more cuts with EVERYTHING on the table including Defense Spending and an increase in revenue, since tax revenues as a percentage of GDP are at a 60 year low.
