It’s a long, torturous road from word to deed, but this could be huge …
“Republicans are “willing to accept new revenue” to tame the soaring national debt and avert an ugly battle over the approaching “fiscal cliff,” House Speaker John A. Boehner said Wednesday in a speech that offered a potential path to compromise in year-end budget negotiations.
With President Obama reelected and Republicans returned to a slightly smaller majority in the House, Boehner (R-Ohio) said Tuesday’s election amounted to a plea from voters for the parties to lay down their weapons of the past two years and “do what’s best for our country.”
“That is the will of the people. And we answer to them,” Boehner said, according to advance excerpts of a speech he planned to deliver at an afternoon news conference at the Capitol. “For purposes of forging a bipartisan agreement that begins to solve the problem, we’re willing to accept new revenue, under the right conditions.”
We’ll see what Eric Cantor, Tom Price and Paul Ryan, among other GOP House members, have to say about this. Boehner also repeated his opposition to raising revenue by increasing tax rates, suggesting that he would accept doing so by altering the tax code. But the ice might be breaking.

josef,
Here’s the thing. I would have no problem if Warren claimed ancestry if she actually lived it or actively acknowledged her ancestry with involvment. I see no evidence of this although you say she has been involved in Indian “things”. According to what I’ve read I see zero involvement in Indian “things” and the woman won’t even publicly answer stories about her ancestry. At that point she has no credibility with me. And as I posted her credibility also seems to be lacking with a number of Native Americans. This also is an interesting read on her.

The Cherokees and Jews have both always been odd in membership considerations. You can be Cherokee by DNA and yet not recognized as a member. And same with Jews. I worked with a girl whose father was a Jew and she had a Jewish last name. Her mother was an Episcopalian. She couldn’t understand why people thought she was a Jew – could be my last name, she told us one day. Well yes, and maybe your looks.
And Liz Warren is entitled to minority status if the law says she is, which apparently it does.

Here’s the thing, thulsa. Many of us have some Native American ancestry and either don’t know it or don’t achknowledge it. I do, some number of generations back. I don’t actively involve with it, but it’s there. Nothing wrong with claiming it or not. I also have an ancestor who owned slaves, but I sure don’t actively identify with that fact. Thomas Jefferson had children by both his white wife and his African mistress, but do all the descendants claim him? It’s up to the individual, and I suspect if most of us did some research, we’d find quite a multi-cultural mix.

Georgia is likely to vote Democratic in 2016, and it’s all abstract to Republican peons. The state’s Republican elite (carpet barons, chicken barons, international onion farmers, and their handpicked governor) deserve all of the credit.

“Thomas Jefferson had children by both his white wife and his African mistress, but do all the descendants claim him?”
Not quite sir. There are a couple of historians who believe those children were fathered by Jefferson’s brother who had done quite a bit of philandering with the slave girls and was known to take advantage of them. Its an interesting controversy but we don’t know for sure. The timeline also indicates that Jefferson was out town on business/govt affairs when at least one or more of the kids was fathered. Its interesting stuff.
http://www.pbs.org/wgbh/pages/frontline/shows/jefferson/true/primer.html
Jeffersons Could Have Been the Father of Eston.
This DNA study testing the Y chromosome found that there was a link to “some” Jefferson, but not necessarily Thomas, having been the father of Eston, Sally Heming’s youngest son. These DNA tests indicated that any one of 8 Jeffersons could have been the father of Eston and there was nothing to indicate it was Thomas. The 8 possibilities identified by the DNA tests are Thomas, Randolph (Jefferson’s brother), Randolph’s 5 sons, and a cousin George and in 5 of Randolph’s sons, who were in their teens or 20s when Sally Hemings was having children. Since no one has ever denied that it was likely that “some” Jefferson fathered at least one of Sally Heming’s children, these recent DNA tests only provide more certainty to what we already knew or suspected. Since the only available DNA evidence comes from direct male lineal descendants of persons who have descended from a common male line with Thomas Jefferson (father, grandfather, etc.), the test is inherently nonspecific. The same Y chromosome existed in Mr. Jefferson’s brother Randolph, who lived 20 miles from Monticello, and in 5 of Randolph’s sons, who were in their teens or 20s when Sally Hemings was having children.
New Woodson DNA Tests.
DNA tests performed on 1 Eston line came up positive, but tests performed originally on 5 Woodson lines in November 1998 came up negative, as did a recent DNA test on a 6th line performed in March 2000. These results should demonstrate beyond any reasonable doubt that Thomas Jefferson was not the father of Tom Woodson. The Woodson DNA tests are important because if Tom Woodson is Sally Heming’s Paris-conceived son and could be shown to have Jefferson DNA, it would then be almost certain that Thomas Jefferson was his father, since Thomas was the only Jefferson in Paris at the time who could have impregnated Sally. Last week the Thomas C. Woodson Family Association declined to attend The Monticello Association’s Annual Business Meeting to be held on Sunday, May 7. The Woodson Family Association’s President, Robert Golden, stated that the care of the Jefferson family cemetery and possible burial there “is not of interest to the Woodson Family Association itself but might be of interest only to specific individuals within the Woodson family.”

No, they’re just realistic enough to realize you have to balance spending cuts with added revenue. They know you can’t start unfunded wars that go on for years without end and keep the defense contractors in yachts. They know you can’t pay LIP SERVICE to the middle-class while you let the rich screw them again and again. They see the economy for what it is- consumer driven from the middle out. Republicans pay lip service to debt. The Great Reagan himself raised it disproportionately in his administration, but we don’t dare criticize him do we? Bush the Idiot exploded it with two wars, tax cuts, and a Medicare boondoggle.

Well! I can actually agree with that.

You got proof that we don’t. Cause judging from the frequent posts in the past from liberals about gun loving right wing nuts I think its a fair statement that we have more. Or are those mostly liberals buying up all those weapons at those gun and knife shows? And is it the left or right wing who is very pro 2nd amendment? I think we both know the answers to these questions.
Interesting. Given that I’m always called a Liberal here, I am probably one of the more serious gun nuts on the blog. I’m actually in the market for one or two more too. Maybe I’m not a liberal after all.

Lets put this under the scope, Blacks came out heavy for Obama because they see him as well Black. The 18 to 30 crowd came out for Obama because it was hip and cool to be with their peer group “in crowd” and many fell victim to their college prof’s brainwashing. Latino’s came out for Obama because they believe that he will open the borders and there will be amnesty for all. Then of course you have the aging hippies along with the aging hippie wannabee’s, such as what you see on Jay’s blog. The latter is a minor voting block. The Black voting block will have their Black candidate novelty wear off, the youth vote will grow up and become more conservative as they gain wisdom from the natural aging process and Latinos will find a greater bound with their Christian brothers as they assimilate into America. The left has won a significant and long sought victory but it will be short lived as the reality of our declining economy sinks in to all Americans along with the failure of socialism in America becomes apparent to all. I remain optimistic for the return to traditional Americanism which has sustained our greatness for many years. God Bless America.

““but half this country simply does not care as long as they get stuff”
That’s the latest wording. Heard it on Fox today. They lost because all these people want “free stuff.” It makes them feel morally superior for having lost.

Lets hope they continue to feel morally superior for a long long time.

@Jay
You don’t have to bother listening to Rush or the Fox entertainment news channel – you can read their talking points here every day. The problem is that some of them get repeated for months.
Murdoch figured out how to make a lot of money by pretending to be a news channel without incurring the costs of real news channels. They don’t incur the costs of news bureaus or reporters. They just employ a staff to sift through real news and pick out something that they can sensationalize to incite their ignorant audience.
Rush makes even more money – his act consists of sarcastic blubbering about insignificant points to incite the same uninformed audience, with frequent breaks to sell soap suds. As long as they can keep a sufficient number of ignorant listeners lost in their parallel universe, where math, science, and facts aren’t matters of importance, the ad money keeps rolling in.
