Live blog: Election 2012, the final chapter

UPDATE: 6:40: Early exit polls report that 2012 electorate is ’slightly’ more Republican than in 2008. That’s crucial, because most 2012 polling is built on the assumption that 2012 turnout will be similar to 2008 turnout.

UPDATE: 7:40 Obama up in early Ohio exit polls.

Winning by 11 among women, down 6 among men. Net up three. If that holds, that’s crucial.

UPDATE: 8:07: Early exit polling from Pennsylvania: Obama up five. That is the sound of a door slamming shut. Romney needs some good news, and so far he isn’t getting any.

UPDATE: 9:28″ Romney needs to prove that the polls are wrong, and so far they just aren’t. For example, Fox just gave Wisconsin — Paul Ryan’s home state — to Obama. Another door slams shut.

UPDATE: 9:52: New Hampshire called. Pennsylvania called. Both for Obama. Romney is running out of routes to the White House.

In the Senate, Elizabeth Warren beats Scott Brown; Richard Mourdock loses in Indiana. Tammy Baldwin wins in Wisconsin, becoming our first openly gay U.S. senator.

UPDATE: 10:05: Republicans were insistent that the polls were oversampling Democrats, that there was no way so many Americans were Democratic.

So far, it looks as though they were wrong.

UPDATE: 10:48: This bodes poorly long-term for the GOP:

Exit poll finds that 74 percent of Republicans believe illegal immigrants should be deported.

Overall, just 29 percent of Americans share that opinion. So how do you convince that 74 percent that the party has to alter its viewpoint to succeed?

It’s definetly late evening on a cold winter night in America.
May the spirit of Liberty and wisdom of Ron Paul see us through the long night that follows.
.
Remember this Freedom loving kindred spirits .
Collectivism/Progressisim/Statism ALWAYS fails when they’ve looted the last cent from the producers.
As long as individuals still have personal retirement accounts or can dine-out once or twice a week, there is still wealth to be confiscated……….And they will.
.
But morning WILL come again.
And the Obama mob will howl……..but decency will prevail.
.
Good day and God bless.

Be on the look out for an e-mail from your company turning the responsibility over to you to buy your own health insurance. They’ll be getting out of that part of your life.

The question is; How long will the process take to transfer group coverage health insurance from being purchased by private business to you shopping for coverage and being totally implemented and over seen by government agencies?

You’ll be given a choice of plans by the government and there will be different levels, Bronze, Gold, Silver etc.
You’ll see a temporary windfall until you have to start paying it yourself.

Educate yourself because it’s going to be very confusing for some on which plan to purchase.

Of course, as you know you’re already paying for someone else’s coverage with the changes that Obama initially implemented when he took office.

And of course you know that the amount and quality of your coverage didn’t increase for the extra money taken out of your check. It’s doubt-full that it will with the upcoming changes either.

Sadly, it won’t affect a large population of folks because they’re not paying anything anyway.
Those working and earning income are footing the bill.

But, hey the country spoke and this is the direction that the electoral college wanted to go.
Get used to it.

Better work hard. Make as much money as you can and try to invest it off shore.

Coming in to work this morning, I heard on NPR that it was the Minority vote that did it for President Obama. I hope that is true. We need to become the “Great Melting Pot” again to restore our greatness as a People Nation. And I personally thank whatever “Great Spirit” that is out there that our young people saw through the fear mongering and passed some good Gay Marriage legislation. We asked to let all Americans to have equal rights, and the kids said, “so be it”. Gotta love the kids.

I am so proud of our nation. The voices of the masses spoke loud and clear, with some citizens remaining in line to vote for hours in the cold in order to be the determiners of how they will be governed and to determine the type of government that they wish for themselves, today. The billionaires were unsuccessful in trying to buy stealthily the America that they wanted, which would have primarily served their interests, the few of wealth and power.

Thomas Jefferson: “Some men look at constitutions with sanctimonious reverence and deem them like the arc of the covenant, too sacred to be touched. They ascribe to the men of the preceding age a wisdom more than human, and suppose what they did to be beyond amendment. . . .I know. . . that laws and institutions must go hand in hand with the progress of the human mind. . . .As. . . new discoveries are made, new truths disclosed, and manners and opinions change with the change of circumstances, institutions must advance also, and keep pace with the times. We might as well require a man to wear still the coat which fitted him when a boy, as civilized society to remain ever under the regimen of their barbarous ancestors. . . .Each generation. . . has. . .a right to choose for itself the form of government it believes most promotive of its own happiness. . . .”

Parents: Come here kids it’s time for a family discussion. We know that you love your Nanny very much. She takes good care of you. She takes you the Chuckie Cheese almost every day and to the zoo and the water park. She feeds you the best lunches and takes all your clothes to the Chinese laundry to be washed and all that. She tells you everyday that she will keep you safe and happy forever. The trouble is, children, that all this stuff is very expensive and Nanny doesn’t really have any money – she spends Mommy and Daddy’s money on you. Mommy and Daddy’s income has flatlined over the past few years while all the things Nanny buys for you get more expensive.

We think that you kids are old enough to look after yourselves. If we keep Nanny it means that Mommy and Daddy won’t have any money for retirement or to send you to college. It also means that after we are gone you will have to pay off all the debts we ran up to pay for the things Nanny buys for you.

We’ve decided that instead of making tough decisions ourselves that might cause you to have a little less fun with Nanny, we are going to let you kids vote on whether to keep Nanny or not.

Before Republicans conclude that they had an insufficiently conservative candidate, they should consider what happened in the Senate — a near wipeout. If the party goes hard right, selecting candidates even less appealing to women, minorities and an increasingly secularized society, it is hard to see how they will improve their standing.

Republicans now will need to develop a strategy for addressing our fiscal problems with only one house of Congress in their possession. They will need to look at what the voters are telling them and who the voters are in the 21st century — fewer marrieds, more secular, more ethnically diverse.

Seems like the introspection parade has began….

Tonight SHOULD NOT have been a battle of rich vs. poor, republican vs. democrat. This was a battle that I believe will go a long way in determining the future of this country. This was an election over social issues. It proves that 50% of us still hold on to traditional societal views, 50% do not. I do not believe anything was settled tonight, I believe it will only get worse. Tonight, a huge wedge was driven between us, and I do not believe time will heal the wound. These last 4 years have been a constant battle between the left and the right. I don’t see an olive branch offered in peace anytime soon.

My hope is that God will continue to bless this country.

“What was the final total spent by the Koch brothers and Adelson? Think what good that money could have done elsewhere.”

I dunno … they’re poorer and have eff-all to show for it … I can live with that.

“Tonight SHOULD NOT have been a battle of rich vs. poor, republican vs. democrat. ”

it was a battle about people who look on half the country as takers, slackers, whatever.

“No! No! I don’t believe it! It can’t be true!” Damn, what a thrill to see Karl Rove in a state of apoplexy over the results. All of his lies, deceptions, suppression, dirty tricks and rich friends couldn’t buy the Oval Office. All of the hundreds of millions of dollars just flushed down the toilet!

You’ve gotta luv it!
