Live blog: Election 2012, the final chapter

UPDATE: 6:40: Early exit polls report that 2012 electorate is ’slightly’ more Republican than in 2008. That’s crucial, because most 2012 polling is built on the assumption that 2012 turnout will be similar to 2008 turnout.

UPDATE: 7:40 Obama up in early Ohio exit polls.

Winning by 11 among women, down 6 among men. Net up three. If that holds, that’s crucial.

UPDATE: 8:07: Early exit polling from Pennsylvania: Obama up five. That is the sound of a door slamming shut. Romney needs some good news, and so far he isn’t getting any.

UPDATE: 9:28″ Romney needs to prove that the polls are wrong, and so far they just aren’t. For example, Fox just gave Wisconsin — Paul Ryan’s home state — to Obama. Another door slams shut.

UPDATE: 9:52: New Hampshire called. Pennsylvania called. Both for Obama. Romney is running out of routes to the White House.

In the Senate, Elizabeth Warren beats Scott Brown; Richard Mourdock loses in Indiana. Tammy Baldwin wins in Wisconsin, becoming our first openly gay U.S. senator.

UPDATE: 10:05: Republicans were insistent that the polls were oversampling Democrats, that there was no way so many Americans were Democratic.

So far, it looks as though they were wrong.

UPDATE: 10:48: This bodes poorly long-term for the GOP:

Exit poll finds that 74 percent of Republicans believe illegal immigrants should be deported.

Overall, just 29 percent of Americans share that opinion. So how do you convince that 74 percent that the party has to alter its viewpoint to succeed?

The GOP has a huge problem. Not only was Romney the best candidate but he was only one with any realistic chance of getting elected. Rick Perry, Rick Santorum, Michele Bachmann…..any of them would have been crushed in this election.

So….if the GOP’s best and only electable candidate couldn’t quite get it done where do they go from here? The party is on the road to irrelevance unless there is a major change, unless they get out of the religion business (opposition to science, abortion, gay marriage, Planned Parenthood) and get back to being the party of fiscal conservatism, small government and social moderation. @Pete – too many posts to count

I think you either forgot to take your medication or it is no longer effective in treating your paranoia.

Seriously, what exactly do you think Obama will do, or has done, that will “destroy” America? For one, I believe this country is more resilient than what one man can do.

Let’s see..
- Ensuring women have equal pay to men for the same work
- Reasonable regulation of wallstreet so they can no longer engage in predatory practices on consumers or investments that threaten our financial system
- Rescue the auto industry
- Kill OBL and decimate AQ’s command and control infrastructure
- Achieved steady, albeit slow, PRIVATE SECTOR job creation after GWB’s loss of over 500K per month
- Gave LGBT individuals the right to serve their nation openly as they have done in secret for 200+ years
- Ended the war in Iraq with a timeline to bring troops home from Afghanistan
- SMALLEST increase in government growth, as a percentage of GDP, in the last 50 years
- Overseen the recovery of the stock market which benefits individual investors, pension plans, etc.
- Enacted legislation to increase fuel economy
- Overseen the largest increase in domestic fossil fuel production (oil and gas) ever
- Passed the first comprehensive health care reform in 100 years – reforms that were advocated by Republican Presidents beginning in the early 1900s to ensure that every American has affordable access to health care

Yes, these things are destroying America. A Romney presidency would have wiped out all those gains and replaced it with eliminating Medicare as we know it, decimating Social Security and other safety net programs, given trillions in tax breaks to the wealthy while increasing taxes on the middle class…the list goes on and on.

But you just continue in your bitterness. I hope for your sake you seek treatment because anger and hatred will eventually kill you.

Look before I leap...

Folks will wake up in the morning and realize that;

Hurricane Sandy hit the northeast while the dems were campaigning
Libya is a mess, and you will not be able to dodge questions any longer
4 dead Americans in Benghazi
There really are some countries that just don’t like us, and Obama wants to down size our military
Mitt Romney was a really nice guy, and Ryan is a whole lot smarter than Biden
Unemployment WENT UP last month, with no sign of it going down anytime soon
He said if unemployment was not down to 5%, he would be a 1 term president. He lied.
Gas prices are above $3 a gallon, not $1.80 like they were when Obama was first elected
Record number of people on welfare
Record number of people receiving food stamps
Can’t blame the previous administration, you are the previous administration
Hard to build a ‘legacy’ when you only have the support of 50% of the people
Terrorists may support Obama, but I don’t think they will invite him over for dinner
Joe Biden IS STILL the vice president
Universal healthcare really isn’t such a great idea when we have a deficit of 6 trillion dollars

Have fun Barack, you have the full support of 50% of a grateful nation.

@ Pete

You are delusional, please check your medications…

- Hurricane Sandy happened when both candidates were campaigning. Unfortunately for Mittens, he said FEMA should be virtually eliminated. FEMA has responded and the keynote speaker at the Republic conclave in Tampa thanked BO for his help
- Libya is a mess. I lived there. Have you ever been outside the U.S. Questions about GWB’s knowledge of OBL’s plans for attacks, weapons of mass destruction took years to sort out so shut up
- Obama is “right-sizing” our military. We spend more on military than all of our potential adversaries combined. Spending more doesn’t make you stronger, it makes you poorer
- Mitt Romney is not a nice guy – he loathes the “little people” just like Leona Helmsley. Why did Biden wipe his ass with Ryan’s gym face during the debate if he is so smart?
- Unemployment has trended downward from the +500K job losses under the previous Republic president. And that with ZERO cooperation from the Republic House
- He never said if it wasn’t down to 5% he would be a one-term president
- Gas prices are very low relative to demand. Recall that when GWB left office the world economy was in a spiral. Demand was down significantly. I would have thought you “supply siders” would understand such basic concepts. I guess I am wrong.
- Yes with the economic downturn initiated by GWB more people need assistance in the worst economic situation since the Great Depression. No surprise there. But it was the Republicans that brought us this disaster
- Record number on food stamps (please see above) – a GWB failure
- We are not blaming the previous administration other than to say that the situation BO faced when he came to office was the result of the previous administration and 4-eyes McConnell stated his only job was to defeat BO this election cycle. Well he failed
- How could Robme have built a legacy with less than 50%?
- Terrorists support BO? Please give me evidence? OBL and the other AQ operatives that have been hunted down and killed by BO disagree.
- Yes Biden is still the VP. A big step up from gym-boy Lyin-Ryan
- The ACA will actually reduce the deficit per the CBO. Getting everyone insured is the sensible thing to do. It makes those “freeloaders” pay their cost to the system or at least reduce the public outlay by shifting the cost to private insurers
- BO has the support of 50% of the population and the rest of the world

Seriously Pete, take your medication or seek treatment. I think it is covered under the ACA.

On reflection, I think there must be a God after all… (insert Big Grin here)

Obama Wins! Heads Explode All Across Dixie!

The oligarchs were repudiated by a rational electorate who weren’t willing to go on a blind date with Mitt. He CHOSE to shroud himself in secrecy and the American people said NO!

Dekalb comments,

I really don’t think you understand. This country is going downhill fast with Obama at the wheel. He has shown no interest in compromising with the republicans at all for 4 years. Thus debt ceiling is a HUGE issue, and it has to get resolved by the end of the year. He HAS to get republican support as he does not have a super majority. He has lost a lot of political capital, and he is too arrogant to compromise with republicans. But that do you care, Obama won and we still have 6 billion in debt, and the bad guys still don’t like us too much.

Enjoy your victory.

According to a poll I just saw, 62% of voters said we are on the wrong track. Solution? Lets re-elect these guys and give them 4 more years.

I just wish that the 50% of the people that voted for him would wear a shirt that has ‘Dumb Mass’ writen across the chest so the other 50% of this country kmow who to blame.

Thanks a lot you dumb masses!
