————————-
“The president has been all over this, he deserves great credit … He gave me his number at the White House, told me to call if I needed anything, and he absolutely means it.”
– Gov. Chris Christie, on “Morning Joe”
————————-
“The federal government’s response has been great. I was on the phone at midnight again last night with the president, personally, he has expedited the designation of New Jersey as a major disaster area … The president has been outstanding in this and so have the folks at FEMA.”
– Gov. Chris Christie, on “The Today Show”
————————-
“I want to just let you know that your governor is working overtime to make sure that as soon as possible everybody can get back to normal. The main message I wanted to send is the entire country has been watching what’s been happening. Everybody knows how hard Jersey’s been hit.”
– President Obama, speaking of Christie to residents in a shelter near Atlantic City
————————-
Is it just me, or is there an odd man out in this mutual admiration society?
In better times, this kind of demonstration of bipartisan cooperation and assistance in a time of crisis would almost go unremarked upon, but these are not those times. In a nation that hungers for such cooperation, even if it does not understand how to produce it, this kind of partnership stands out, to the benefit of the besieged people of New Jersey and, frankly, to the political benefit of the two men involved. As Obama made a point of noting, “the entire country has been watching what’s been happening.”
As an aside, it does make you wonder how this scenario might have played out had Christie been nominated as Mitt Romney’s running mate. You also have to think that there are people in the upper echelons of the Romney campaign cursing not just Christie but the weather gods as well. In a close-fought election, they have handed Obama an opportunity that he seems to have seized with both hands.

Borrowing from Sam Seder’s commentary yesterday, but–
This is possibly the best barometer re: Obama’s prospects for re-election one could check.
If Gov. Christie thought there were any chance Romney were going to win, he’d be tempering those remarks about Obama appropriately. but he probably doesn’t, so he isn’t.

Obama has been the first to make overtures to republicans many times in various issues and policies but they have rebuffed his efforts at bipartisanship. They had no intention of working with him but as they’ve stated numerous time, their effort is to see that he is a one term president. Such short sighted and narrow mindedness has hampered the economic recovery process and if anyone is to be blamed for the slow recovery, it’s the republicans in Congress.
I commend Gov. Christie for putting aside partisanship and taking the helping hand of government when it’s offered and that his constituents need. But I have no illusions that this bipartisanship will last after the crises is over.

and long as I’m in “letting other people do the thinking for me” groove, the A-man basically has it right about how to regard Gov. Christie this week.
I watched Chris Christie evolve from being his usual mostly pointlessly dickish self before the storm fully hit to being someone who seemed to be generally concerned with trying to solve the massive problem he was now faced with.
That doesn’t mean I love the guy, but I do think he was, unlike many in his party, actually seeing that it was his job to do stuff.

This is an opportunity for Obama to look Presidential and to show a “bring us together” personality. In a tight election, this MAY prove to be what get’s him a second term.
For Christie, he’s looking to 2016. He’s betting either Obama will be elected or, if Romney get’s it, he will be a terrible president and won’t get a second chance. So, for Christie, this is a grest opportunity to look more mainstream and have a real shot, in 2016, at the presidency or VP.

I find Romney’s “disaster relief” show and his comparing cleanup from Sandy to cleaning up after a football game more telling than all his lies, his $10,000 bet, and even his 47% dialogue. He has absolutely nothing to offer America in this day and age!

It took the BUSINESSMAN almost a WEEK to be on the ground; it took the COMMUNITY ORGANIZER 48 HOURS to be on the ground…….

All good comments, but look at it from a practical standpoint. Christie has to run in ‘14 and he’s a Republican governor in what is a mostly Democratic state. Fox News viewers may not know what you’re talking about, Jay. While other news networks covered the storm’s aftermath, the actions and remarks of the President and Gov. Christie, Fox News covered remarks by Republicans critical of the President over Benghazi. Fox led with Benghazi accusations in Republican fantasy land, then briefly mentioned that the President and Christie toured storm damage in NJ. Then they quickly pivoted back to Benghazi remarks. This illustrates why Fox News viewers are the most poorly informed news watchers, and believe more false information than viewers that watch other news stations.

Let’s be realistic here. Christie is like the head of his family. He takes care of his family first and knows who writes the checks.
Forget about the past where the mayor of New Orleans and the governor of Louisiana did not ask for help until it was painfully necessary. It was their job to initiate the effort, but they were paralyzed to do anything. At least Mayor Bloomberg told the check writer no thanks and he could do his way without federal help.
All of you liberals can stuff your lionizational tactics about the Annointed One and see it as the normal duties of a president to offer help.

Well I guess when you think GM owns Jeep and there are drone attacks on WI wedding parties, yapping about someone’s weight seems to make sense. While Christie’s weight may be perceived as a political liability, it is still overly childish to try to act like some school yard bully and saying he can’t “govern his self”. Clearly, as you were ignorant before, you are ignorant about real weight control issues. It is far from being a simple governing matter. It is a complicated issue. Did anyone happen to notice that Romney’s post-Sandy view of FEMA and the role of the federal government
“”Gov. Romney believes that states should be in charge of emergency management in responding to storms and other natural disasters in their jurisdictions,” said the statement by spokeswoman Amanda Henneberg. “As the first responders, states are in the best position to aid affected individuals and communities, and to direct resources and assistance to where they are needed most. This includes help from the federal government and FEMA.”
Read more: http://www.abc15.com/dpp/news/national/sandy-update-disaster-relief-obama-romney-differ-on-federal-role#ixzz2AySlfOw9”
Sounds remarkably like the FEMA mission statement?
“FEMA’s mission is to support our citizens and first responders to ensure that as a nation we work together to build, sustain, and improve our capability to prepare for, protect against, respond to, recover from, and mitigate all hazards.”
and
“The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) is the central agency within the Federal government for emergency planning, preparedness, mitigation, response and recovery. Working closely with State and local governments, FEMA funds emergency programs and offers technical guidance and training. FEMA stands ready to deploy any Federal resource in a catastrophic disaster. These coordinated activities ensure a broad-based program to protect life and property and provide recovery assistance after a disaster. ”

Organization has always been Obama’s strong point. He does it so well sometimes I think he forgets the compassion, but the man’s black and his compassion is there, he has seen too much as a black man, has family that is black in a still white America. He feels pain and when he is in the midst of it he is very sincere.
Christy is the one who I view with a totally different eye. This guy has the guts of a gorilla fighter. Can you imagine the heat he is taking and I wonder how the GOP delivers a dress down at the funeral of the state of New Jersey? These Peter Faulk types who have their hats off in insincere respect as they are trying to slap Christy out of this sudden bout with character, this guy is showing the country what we have crave since the Bushes first entered office. These two together can fix America, put the man in the cabinet, run him next time for president and even I might vote for him. I got over the Halloween candy blues OK…with help. Since my knee is back in its brace, I couldn’t walk with them this year, so I stayed home and passed out the goodies. I’ll admit to pilfering a few peanut butter cups, but that was all. The kicker was when they came home, my four year old great grand daughter loudly proclaimed that all the kids were to give Nana some candy to take home. In the very next breath, she said, “But not for grandpa, he can’t have any”. It wasn’t the words that got me, but the look of genuine concern on her face for me. Broke my heart in a good way. Anyway…I’m looking at this orange Reese’s package right now and having a hard time waiting for lunch. I stashed it in my coat right before they came home….I’m bad….

Paul, FEMA is exactly the kind of overall model of a government agency that works in conjunction with state agencies. Conceptually. Yes, it has had poor leadership under the Bushes and like any large business or government agency there are more efficiencies and problems to deal with, but conceptually the agency works and adapts as new disasters are confronted.

If you want to take the irony even further: the BUSINESSMAN wants to privatize disaster planning and recovery….and he sends things that are NOT NEEDED nor REQUESTED to a disaster; the COMMUNITY ORGANIZER is sending in the proper assets to begin reconstruction and has the right personnel in place to coordinate the efforts!!
This was NOT a low-bar situation!! If you compare the thought processes of the BUSINESSMAN (Bush/Romney) to the COMMUNITY ORGANIZER (Obama), you’ll see the difference in a profit approach vs. a systemic approach….and the systemic approach is what’s needed NOW!! THAT’S THE DIFFERENCE!!!

God how I love how fast the right can throws you under the bus. They are like stampeding buffalo going left, going right which ever way the wind blows and when one of theirs tries to show the way to bipartisan cooperation he is now a fat jerk. If he had run Romney would be in a VP position right now or none at all, if his taste is as true as it appears. Let’s watch who is really blocking bipartisan cooperation, we house a lot of the obstructionist right here in this area. This blog should get interesting as we watch people talking out of both sides of their mouths. They don’t want bipartisanship they want a black man out of office and here is comes.

both suggest that the swings and indication suggests Romneys ultimate outcome is increased by enough points to win Florida, Ohio and Virginia
Karl’s own 10/29 map indicates Ohio is still leaning Obama… as is Nevada, Wisconsin, NH, and Iowa.
I buy Romney winning Florida (although the West Palm Beach Republican operative is quite annoyed that Obama GOTV effort there is far surpassing Romney’s). I even think Virginia is a possibility. I think the rest of the states still under consideration are all Obama’s at this point. The polls have been pretty stable lately on this.

Unlike, say, politicizing the death of an ambassador… or politicizing military purchases… or …
Politicians do politics. That’s their job. It’s the grunts under them who are doing the actual cleanup. Ok, except for Cory Booker, who was out in the middle of the hurricane providing aid to his constituents and using Twitter to keep up a running conversation.

The Rushannities are all featuring “reformed democrats” as call-in testifiers. You should hear the garbled transmissions. “I voted for Carter, Clinton, and Obama, but now, after this FEMA disaster for Romney, I now know I was wrong for four decades. Only Romney can get the economy back, and then our freedoms will be secure.” etc. etc. etc.

This “match” is of a short term necessity for NJ. I’m sure if Christie had the time to expand, he’d say that bigger (non-emergency crisis) picture that Romney is the better fit to create jobs, turn our economy around and get America back on its feet. He’d also say Obama is a free wheeling spender who will raise our national debt to 20+ trillion in a second term.
Look people, I get the changes to society that liberals want, but not at the sake of our country in a time of financial crisis. We simply can’t afford the amount of entitlements that the left enjoys and we certainly cannot afford Obamacare. Remember when Kennedy said ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country? Best thing you can do is set aside those society-laden wants for now and vote for the candidate who will set us on the right path to recovery. ROMNEY

Listening to Erin Burnett last night to push Bay Buchanan to criticize Christie was really quite pathetic actually. Pathetic for what it says about our so-called journalistic analysis in this country. While even just a year or two ago the camaraderie btw the two men would have been taken for granted and if anything provoked minor fascination/admiration, nowadays it evokes barely disguised sneers. We really do seem to be getting to a place quickly where the most crass cynicism is not only assumed, but demanded outright.

Obama hasn’t “seized” any opportunities, he’s just doing his job. It’s simply amazing to see how smooth things go when he doesn’t have to deal with a racist, obstructionist congress…
Maybe this storm wasn’t unleashed upon us because of gay people… maybe it was sent because of all the false prophets claiming to know god’s word and intentions… maybe it was a test from god, and Obama and Christie passed with flying colors… while Mittens?… well not so much… with his bogus, fake and staged “relief” effort in Ohio. He did have to clean up a football field once however.
Poor old Mittens, he had some good momentum, he was staying silent (in the hope that Obama would flub the storm response as bad as W did), but simply couldn’t leave well enough alone. A simple video taped heartfelt response, and then step aside to let the folks who need to be busy right now do their jobs would’ve been a better course of action, but they had to let him step out there, stand in front of a bunch of purchased goods posing as donations, and open his pie hole, and once again he proves just out of touch he really is.

That’s reserved for where it belongs. That’s just the norm up there. When Christie is bombastic and harsh, that’s just the Jersey boy in him coming out. But don’t doubt for a moment that he knows what the situation is, what the people of his state need and what’s necessary to make that happen.
For all his bluff and bluster, Christie obviously saw the reports and pictures coming in of the damage, said ‘ohspit’ and got the President on the horn. Christie did the right thing, and more importantly, he’s *doing* the right thing. Same goes for the President. Things like political parties and favorite sports teams and whether you call it ‘pop,’ ’soda’ or ‘co-cola’ are all beside the point when something like Sandy happens. You set aside those differences — like Governor Christie and President Obama did — and you get to work.
I didn’t think much of Governor Christie before this week, but his stock has risen considerably in my eyes as a result of this.

A Republican governor in a Democratic state being civil to a Democratic president who will win his state next week, and who also holds the purse strings to the federal disaster relief largesse? How strange. And Christie has about as much chance of winning a Republican presidential nomination as Rudy Guilliani did. So let me guess, Johnny: back during the primaries I’ll bet that the Mormon squish was the last guy on earth you were enthusiastic about to be the big GEE-OH-PEE standard bearer, am I right? (Let me guess, you got a tingle up your leg for Rick Perry?)
So what did it for you? What got you ‘over the hump’ and made you finally not only embrace Mitt, but do so enthusiastically and fervently, as though he was the one you supported all along?
See, this is the difference between someone like JohnnyReb and me.
While JohnnyReb desires fervently for Mitt Romney to be elected, believing that it will basically set things right in the world, because it will mean that his “side” has won, I do concede that I hope that Obama wins but I hold no illusions about what will ultimately come of his victory.
That’s the difference between me and you.
While I certainly do want Obama to beat the psychopath duo, and have certain reasons for wanting it, I also, unlike JohnnyReb – like his fellows here Recon, and others – have no illusions about the fact that we are completely screwed and we are headed into very dark times ahead because of the depraved moral character of the ruling elite — which is entirely BI-PARTISAN — and the determination of that elite, faced with the most serious crisis of capitalism in nearly a century, to re-institute a new form of neo-feudalism in this country to rival the Chinese.
What someone like you doesn’t seem to be able to step back and allow into the narrow spaces of his mind is the simple fact that the crisis we’re now in is systemic, not simply a crisis brought on by one administration or even party.
That’s the difference between you and me.

I agree with you, Don. Just because these two men are genuine in their concern for others does not negate the fact that they can also be aware of the political benefit of their “partnership.” They can contain both truths, with their overriding concern being care for the people who will benefit from their “servant leadership.”
Contrast that with Mitt Romney’s posed care for the victims of hurricane Sandy as he spoke of preparing “rows” or “aisles” of food for them. This man seems to exist so much on the surface, that he appears incapable of deeper feeling for others, outside of his family.
The possibility of having another President who lives out political spin of truth as reality is abhorrent to me. President Obama does not experience others in a surface way nor does he condone political spin as truth, in large measure. Remember that on Nov. 6.

Your president is a liar. The people who surround him are liars. And this is the person you want to run this country for 4 more years? That makes you mentally ill, suspiciously harmful, or incredibly naive.
It’s in your face. Believe it. Obama’s cause and your following is fundamentally wrong and morally corrupt. This regime’s secrets and shenanigans will eventually come to light.

The GOP leadership has proven time and again that they don’t care what happens to the country. They’re in this for the money. Unfortunately, there are not enough rich people to vote in their candidates, so they have throw some crumbs to the religious right, racists and the anti-governement nuts to increase their numbers. Their paid shills rile up the crowd on the war on Christmas or other nonsense while shipping jobs overseas, busting up a union or starting a war. This has gotten them a solid South, voting GOP all the way to the bottom of every measurment on education and wealth, but hasn’t played as well in the states that won the Civil War. Romney wins Georgia – Obama wins the election.

The spirit of cooperation and compromise that one characterized our governance was undermined by Newt Gingrich’s scorched-earth tactics starting in the 90s. Since then, the heaping helpings of extreme bias offered up by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Fox & Friends, Sean Hannity, et. al., have made for an even more polarized climate where the base will brook no middle ground. So it is indeed rare to see and hear this type of demonstration of bipartisanship. President Obama went into his term with hopes of reaching across the aisle, but the Republicans would have no part of it. This intransigence is costing them the confidence of the American people — or at least those that haven’t been brainwashed by Fox News.

When individuals fund a charitable remainder unitrust, or “CRUT,” they defer capital gains taxes on any profit from the sale of the assets, and receive a small upfront charitable deduction and a stream of yearly cash payments. Like an individual retirement account, the trust allows money to grow tax deferred, while like an annuity it also pays Romney a steady income. After the funder’s death, the trust’s remaining assets go to a designated charity.

I have read alot where Obama is just ” doing his job” in response to the damage and tragic loss of life after Hurricane Sandy. He has always ” done his job” the last four years, especially in the wake of natural disasters. He hired Jeb Bush’s director of emergency management to be the director of FEMA, someone who actually qualified for the job.
The previous administration and president didnt do this.
By the way, anyone remember the floods in this state in 2009? I do, living in one of the affected counties , FEMA was here until the middle of November , two months after the flood.

Families with an income of 70K…… up $4138
Baby Boomers with an income of 95K…… up $4223
Low income families with incomes of 24.7K….. up $1027

Those taxes don’t have to go up, but that’s obviously what W and his wingnut congress meant to happen.

the other half of your brain – “It really is ironic”
Yes it is. Who could have guessed that the keynote speaker for the RNC and Romney advocate, would be the Gov. of one of the states hardest hit by the storm of the century, which in turn causes him to turn to the man who he deemed as “lacking leadership” to ask for aid and then praise that same man for his leadership abilities.
Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up.

Active duty military is heavily wingnut, veterans are usually Democrats. Once they return from their wingnut wars and realize wingnuts will greet them at the airport, give them a cup of coffee and walk away, they usually turn to the party who will take care of them in return for their sacrifices…
That being said, active duty folks are tired of wingnut warmongering… I wouldn’t be surprised if they were voting a little more democratic this year.

Although a common scorecard, these folks have very little influence on the free market…I think tax policy, stimulus etcetera don’t remotely near the influence all suggest…Obama didn’t change gas prices, he didn’t increase or decrease unemployment (except perhaps for the infrastructure jobs of which I have no numbers)
All of you give him credit for good outcomes but blame all bad on a guy that hasn’t governed since 2008..Kinda like taking over a football team as coach promising hope and change…who has a less that stellar record 4 years in and is trying to keep his job by saying the coach 4 years ago is making it impossible for him to make a change.

That’s right, you did, I got the two of them mixed up. I’ve been trying to read up on trusts since you’ve been mentioning them; my mom has some assets that she wants me to shield from my no-good younger brother. She’s got me in her will to receive practically everything from her estate, but she’s concerned that if I predecease her, that Captain Scumbag will get a slick lawyer and wind up getting it all. Thus my interest in trusts.
A GRAT’s got more do to with avoiding gift taxes on gifts to family members; I was reading this past weekend about a court case involving a member of the Wal-Mart Waltons who wound up in court over how she valued a pair of GRATs.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GRAT
“I live in the Tribeca area, still got water issues.”
Tap water you can do without for a while; you can get bottled at the corner bodega for drinking. And as far as bathing goes, there’s always the Y or your gym. Or maybe rent a cheap hotel room for a night (if such can be found) in an area where there are no water issues? There are also waterless cloths for bathing that hospitals use; I had to use them for 2-3 weeks after my surgery. Those might be obtainable from medical supply or camping goods stores.

Private sector adds most jobs in 8 months in Oct
NEW YORK (Reuters) – Companies added 158,000 jobs in October in the biggest gain in eight months, data from a payrolls processor showed on Thursday in a revamped report on the private sector labor market.
The historical data for the ADP National Employment Report was revised as part of the new methodology, which was used for the first time in the October report. September’s increase has halved to 88,200 new jobs from an initially reported 162,000.
October’s increase was the biggest jump since February and topped economists’ forecasts for a gain of 135,000 jobs.

“Religion “binds”. Christianity “frees” !
“Religion emphasizes precepts, propositions, performance, production, programs, promotion, percentages, etc. Christianity emphasizes the Person of Jesus Christ, and His life lived out through the receptive Christian believer.
Christianity is not religion! Christianity is Christ! Christianity is “Christ-in-you-ity.” Jesus Christ did not found a religion to remember and reiterate His teaching. Christianity is the personal, spiritual presence of the risen and living Lord Jesus Christ, manifesting His life and character in Christians, i.e. “Christ-ones.” Paul explained, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me” (Gal. 2:20).”

Dude, do a little research on the 1993 deficit reduction Act. Look at how many in the GOP voted for it (hint: 0), look at the floor speeches and press releases from the GOP about how this would devastate the economy and ‘burn a hole in the deficit.’
Then, look at the results (deficits to surplus, 22 million jobs and the longest sustained economic growth in our nations history).
The man that engineered that economic policy is a big fan of President Obama…

Broke ethics law hiding millions, say good government groups
by Greg Palast
Toledo, Ohio – Wednesday October 31, 2012
For Mitt Romney, it’s one scary Halloween. The Presidential candidate has just learned that tomorrow afternoon he will charged with violating the federal Ethics in Government law by improperly concealing his multi-million dollar windfall from the auto industry bail-out.
At a press conference in Toledo, Bob King, President of the United Automobile Workers, will announce that his union and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) have filed a formal complaint with the US Office of Government Ethics in Washington stating that Gov. Romney improperly hid a profit of $15.3 million to $115.0 million in Ann Romney’s so-called “blind” trust.

A 16 tillion dollar deficit! Now that should be more than enough to get the economy roaring again. Hang on to your hats if you wear one. That kind of money velocity is sure to stir up quite the windstorms and the friction generated from all those dollar bills sliding past each other in such a short period of time is sure to challenge CO2’s reign over most supported cause of man-made global warming. This could be a breakthrough.

Scout has proof that Christianity can be supported by the Laws of Physics and hence is not based on faith and therefore is not a religion. It’s real simple. You see, the bible has three dimensions and therefore has volume and it has contains paper (unless you limit the discussion to the virtual version and then all bets are off) so it has mass. Hence by Newton’s Law, the bible is confirmed to have weight and so by extension Christianity is supported by the Laws of Physics.

From the very beginning of Sandy, the corrupt msm has been doing what they can to try and politicize the storm and create narrative after narrative favorable to Obama. Just look at the editorial in the NYTimes the day after. Why is Romney not having a job relevant to the president attending to his job description?
1. I enjoy pointing out that Mitt Romney hasn’t had a real job in many years. It is fun, and it also helps to explain his occasionally bizarre behavior.
2. the guy I was replying too seemed deeply hurt that Obama had been campaigning (oh my stars!) since the summer. Really, the only appropriate response would be to ignore it, but I couldn’t help myself.

NJ is a net federal contributor (as opposed to recipient), so YES, verily YES, I would rebuild there.
Did I saw make the whole state off limits? Rebuilding in flood prone areas is just plain stupid, and if it were your money alone to waste, I could care less.
A lot of contractors will make money during the rebuilding process.
They will need housing somewhere. Just don’t waste the money to rebuild where the next storm will wash the houses away again.

Jay likes statistics so here are some statistics that disprove the idea that Obama inherited a mess that no one can fix and further that going back is the wrong thing to do. Average unemployment under George W. Bush is as follows, 2001-4.7; 2002-5.8; 2003-6.0; 2004-5.5; 2005-5.1; 2006-4.6; 2007-4.6; 2008-5.8, those were the good old days! Then came Obama, 2009-9.3;, 2010-9.6; 2011-8.9; This is going forward? Progress? The average unemployment under George Bush was 5.26% while under Barack Obama it is 9.27%. So when you hear the president or anyone else say they don’t want to go back, ask go back to what? 5.26% or 9.27%? Get real folks. [W]e use the cute phrase “flip-flop” to describe Romney’s change in positions. But they’re not mere shifts in position. They’re lies that get to the core of the man’s beliefs, such as they aren’t. And we could ask if Romney was lying in the past, when he was very moderate, then intensely conservative, or now, when he’s somewhat more moderate again. But, except for abortion, Romney refuses to admit that he’s changed his position. That’s the big lie, the one he has gotten away with more than any other, the one that’s winked at as if “That’s just Mitt.”

++++++++++++++++++++++
Actually Keep and Oscar, in republican held Gwinnett County they found away around that. They just “rezoned” the flood planes and allowed them to build there. Remember all the houses flooding the last time the Yellow River flooded? It wasn’t that the flood was so bad, it’s that never before had they been allowed to build there. When I saw them building in areas I had seen 3 feet under water every 4 or 5 years I knew it was gonna be bad………

LB4IL — “Interesting graphic on areas of the country vulnerable to various types of natural disasters.”
There’s another map and set of tables used to determine Federal crop insurance premiums; a farmer can insure again one hazard (e.g. flood, hail, drought, etc.) or buy a “multi-peril” policy. Those maps name some potential property-damaging hazards that don’t seem to appear on your map, such as hail.
I did a consulting gig out West some years ago with one of the commercial insurers that participates in the Federal crop insurance program.

Classic George Will for those here who have the fortitude to read..
economic themes of Obama’s campaign have been that outsourcing jobs is sinful and that he saved GM, which assembles 70 percent of its vehicles on lines outside America. He thinks that ATMs and airport ticket kiosks cause unemployment but may understand that buying an iPhone involves outsourcing to China the jobs of assembling it. Although his campaign slogan is “Forward!” he evidently wants America to compete with China in the manufacture of T-shirts and toasters. His third economic theme — that he will “invest in” (spend on) this and that — has been inaudible amid the clatter of crashing companies he has invested in.
He’s a tough one to debate…

You know the thing the” Christian” people do is include the church in these lies your man Romney bring in with him. You endorse this stuff and then when it doesn’t happen you have the baggage of people associating the church with the sorry politicians and with liars. You have turned the church into your market place.
The right loves to “me too or you too” every argument thrown at them. And when they are called liars their defense quiet often without facts is you guys are liars too or yesterday’s line was we are inclusive too after the show stealing display in New Jersey. Well you get no where out slinging mud with these guys in this day and time, the press loves it and like a cat fight just lets it go to build up their ratings, never judging who was right or wrong or caring or trying to stop it. Obama doesn’t bring the church into this low brow gathering, he doesn’t allow people to judge this activity and associate it to the Christian movement, something I can assure you God does not endorse either. God has been out of the far right Christian movement a long time, He was replaced by politicians and lobbies. Humans will make mistakes and eventually the daylight forms between the real God and these power thirsty want to bes, but as Newt has displayed that doesn’t stop this train of artificial glory.

It’s just you, Bookman. Mean-spirited, hateful commentators like you refuse to admit that those in both parties want what they feel is best for Americans. They simply have different political philosophies as to how government best serves people.
So when someone you like to demonize for believing in a different philosophy doesn’t conform to your distorted beliefs, you are confused. You should be used to it, though, you seem permanently confused by life.
You need to grow up and at least try to understand the viewpoint of the opposing Party. There’s no ‘war’ on anyone, just a different opinion as to how to best serve people.
You won’t change though, because you are intellectually stunted, and maintain a juvenile view with a them vs us mentality.

Romney with a Congress full of Dems would be a good thing.
Not even likely before the 2022 election, and that would hinge on Dems getting control of quite a few states in the 2020 elections when it would be time to redraw Congressional districts again.

It looks to me like Mother Nature cast an early ballot. She sent that biker chick Sandy up to Jersey to clear out the hot air that has been circulating there lately. Asked about her motivation, Mother Nature replied that the Arctic ice cap is disappearing and she likes ice in her iced tea.
Asked whether this had any thing to with global warming she replied, “duh”
Meanwhile, Mitt’s efforts at private relief fell short, when the caviar on his election bus failed to meet the basic food requirements for hurricane victims.

Here’s my 2 cents. Christie is cozying up to Obama because he wants Mittens to lose the election. If Willard wins he’ll probably get a second term — placing the White House 8 years away. However, if Obama wins it’s just 4 years away; then he’d be facing either Joe or Hillary. Either way, it is really delicious that Christie’s change of heart is driving the GOP nuts and it’s enough to make Willard wet his pants!

With the Dems a tragedy is political opportunity. With Katrina we had a Dem governor and a Dem mayor who saw the opportunity to scapegoat the president who was a Repub. The state of Louisiana and the city of New Orleans were warned about what would happen with a hurricane the size of Katrina years before it happened but they declined to spend the money necessary to improve the sea walls. In New York we have all Dems and a Dem Prez in the White House. Who can they pass the blame on to? Certainly not their Dem Prez. Thousands of dislocated families and power outages every where. Total chaos just as bad as New Orleans but with the aid of the leftist news media this will be shown as a sham success for the Prez. We are not that naive and it will show come election day. Indeed I do, but he wasn’t the only one. I attended a scheduled meeting in the mid-70s at a motel off Chamblee-Dunwoody Road. We waited and waited for a representative from the Savannah area to arrive. Finally, after 45 minutes, we began the meeting without her. She finally arrived an hour later. She explained that she was on I-285 and she finally noticed that she had passed the same landmark twice before. No, the first thing he did was to declare the affected areas to be disaster areas, which is required by Federal Regulations in order to release disaster relief funds (known to Mr. Limbaugh as “You Didn’T Build That”). Just FYI, the President couldn’t lift Federal regulations until AFTER he had abided by them and declared the affected areas to be disaster areas.

Again you’re wrong.
WWII, Korea, Vietnam, Desert Storm — all were paid for ON THE FEDERAL BUDGET.
Invasion/Occupation of Iraq — funding NEVER appeared on any Federal Budget during Bush’s term. The invasion and occupation were paid for each year via “Emergency Supplemental Spending Measures,” which weren’t recorded in the budget and were basically Congressionally-approved OVERDRAFTS.

I like the idea of funding a war. If you couldn’t come up with the cash it would be like taking out a mortgage. You would have to find some wealthy magnates to finance it, maybe the Koch brothers, The Donald, or else Karl Rove could bundle some financing the way he bundles PAC money. Then you would have to go through a qualifying process and make sure that the war spoils would cover the loan. Then you set up monthly installments with an interest rate that the wealthy magnates would deem fair. How about that for an amendment to the Constitution?!?!?!

‘I did not for “W”’
Didn’t say you did…you have lots of opinions on Obama and call yourself ‘a fiscal conservative.’
So, I asked you how much the Ryan plan (as passed by the House and endorsed by Romney) would cut the national debt over the next ten years…
You did’nt believe Romney had endorsed and wanted a ‘non-democrat’ source…I gave you one at 2:06 and you went silent.
As with JHM, I am coming to the conclusion that you are just another of a long list of noisemakers. A person with NO DOUBTS about their conclusions and NO IDEA what they are talking about…
Your turn…

Take you seriously – why? I have an MBA in Finance… think I can understand economics and the difference between “so called” funding and actually having paid for something. There is a difference that I doubt you would understand – quite frankly. I can’t take you seriously if you are going to, once again. vote for this naive, unqualified, class action lawsuit lawyer for Prez.

“then we can have a meaningful conversation about science vs faith…again, the two are not mutually exclusive”
True – if you said “God set it motion, then left,” many would have little problem with it – it fits the obsereved facts reasonably well…

So, what’s the difference between the Deist and the agnostic?
not much, but as far as I understand it–
The Deist is certain that there’s a God, but he doesn’t care about God, and God doesn’t care about him.
The agnostic isn’t certain that there’s a God, but he can choose or not to choose whether he cares one way or another.
But that’s just what I picked up on the street.
headin’ upstairs to hear what men o’ God are sayin’ that they’re not s’posed to…

Obama increased our debt by $6 trillion and all this time I thought all spending had to be approved by Congress.
Anyway, does anyone have any idea what would have happened to our debt if McCain had been elected?

I have not commented on Ryan or his “plan” – you got me mixed up with someone else. Go back and check and you will see. Obama has no Fed debt reduction plan. He believes in spending your way out of debt. $6,000,000,000,000 + added to the Fed debt under his watch .. what else do you need to know? Obama is a big gub’ment socialist.

“Morality” — “Take you seriously – why? I have an MBA in Finance…”
I don’t believe you.
“think I can understand economics and the difference between “so called” funding and actually having paid for something.”
If you don’t know the difference in ‘on-budget’ Federal expenditures and ‘off-budget’ Federal expenditures, then you should have never gotten involved in this discussion, MBA or not.
“There is a difference that I doubt you would understand – quite frankly.”
Since you’ve failed to grasp the *fundamental* difference between on-budget and off-budget Federal expenditures, I believe that any difference you have in mind is something that either you made up or that you read or heard from some conservative ranter. In either case, I don’t care and I’m not interested.
“I can’t take you seriously if you are going to, once again. vote for this naive, unqualified, class action lawsuit lawyer for Prez.”

On budget – off budget. Just smoke and mirrors. Either it is paid for or not. If not – it will increase our debt. Often those that think others are ignorant don’t realize their own ignorance.
Self importance is a trait of the far left.

‘I have not commented on Ryan or his “plan” – you got me mixed up with someone else. ‘
I asked you the question about how much the Ryan plan would cut our National Debt after you described yourself as a fiscal conservative.
You are correct that I mixed you up with Mighty Righty – who cut and run as usual…
So, can you not answer the question?

We don’t know what the Ryan plan will cost, just a bunch of guesstimates at this point. But we do know what the Obama plan costs, about $1.4T a year more than we take in. When Cheney said deficits don’t matter the Dems scoffed; now apparently they believe it!

LHU – I don’t listen to these politician’s promises or their plans any more. They just tell you what you want to hear to get your vote. If they told you the truth you would not vote for them. I am looking for results – not just hot air “plans”. The results I see from Obama and his Congress are a disaster – fiscally speaking. I see more of the same if he is reelected. He’s a big spending, big gub’ment knows best, socialist. I am opposed to the expansion of the Fed gub’ment and the spending it will bring. He is a failed Prez – time to make a change and there is only one option. If the next Prez fails I will vote against him too. I am not loyal to a party like these politicians. I am loyal to what’s best for the fiscal recovery of the U.S.A. To Obama, one person moved from the unemployment rolls to disability is a gub’ment created job.

When you put down that ridiculously large broad brush
No.
See, in general, in statistical reality, this is what the group of people known as Republican voters believe. If you are not like that, then you are a statistical outlier, and I nor anyone else have any reason to adjust our criticisms just because you are standing alone against all of your brethren on issues, but still claiming to be on their side.

-they have handed Obama an opportunity that he seems to have seized with both hands.
This is what happens when you have people with actual leadership ability in charge.
Christie: I need A, B, and C.
obama: ummmm, OK.
It’s hard to imagine what this would look like if he had to deal with clowns like Ray Nagen and Kathleen Blanco.
Never let a good crisis go to waste Demwits. (golf clap for people in misery making obama look good).
