Hurricane Sandy produces two storm-tossed allies

————————-

“The president has been all over this, he deserves great credit … He gave me his number at the White House, told me to call if I needed anything, and he absolutely means it.”
– Gov. Chris Christie, on “Morning Joe”

————————-

“The federal government’s response has been great. I was on the phone at midnight again last night with the president, personally, he has expedited the designation of New Jersey as a major disaster area … The president has been outstanding in this and so have the folks at FEMA.”
– Gov. Chris Christie, on “The Today Show”

————————-

“I want to just let you know that your governor is working overtime to make sure that as soon as possible everybody can get back to normal. The main message I wanted to send is the entire country has been watching what’s been happening. Everybody knows how hard Jersey’s been hit.”
– President Obama, speaking of Christie to residents in a shelter near Atlantic City

————————-

Is it just me, or is there an odd man out in this mutual admiration society?

In better times, this kind of demonstration of bipartisan cooperation and assistance in a time of crisis would almost go unremarked upon, but these are not those times. In a nation that hungers for such cooperation, even if it does not understand how to produce it, this kind of partnership stands out, to the benefit of the besieged people of New Jersey and, frankly, to the political benefit of the two men involved. As Obama made a point of noting, “the entire country has been watching what’s been happening.”

As an aside, it does make you wonder how this scenario might have played out had Christie been nominated as Mitt Romney’s running mate. You also have to think that there are people in the upper echelons of the Romney campaign cursing not just Christie but the weather gods as well. In a close-fought election, they have handed Obama an opportunity that he seems to have seized with both hands.

Taxpayer – “When individuals fund a charitable remainder unitrust, or “CRUT,” they defer capital gains taxes on any profit from the sale of the assets, and receive a small upfront charitable deduction and a stream of yearly cash payments. Like an individual retirement account, the trust allows money to grow tax deferred, while like an annuity it also pays Romney a steady income. After the funder’s death, the trust’s remaining assets go to a designated charity. ”

Well, that’s one thing that Mitt and I have in common.

No, we’re not. You’re quite simply lying about that.

It really is ironic how just a few Months ago the Libs on this site were vilifying Christie, they called him every name you can think of, and now that he says a nice thing about Obama he is an exaulted one.

How Pathetic!

TaxPayer — “Isn’t that just so “charitable” of the Mitt. Assuming of course that giving to yourself is called “charity”.

A CRUT is apparently analogous to the GRAT, which is something that Mr. Cassidy sometimes mentions here in his posts.

Speaking of Mr. Cassidy, has he posted since Sandy blew through? He’s in Manhattan IIRC, but I don’t know precisely where.

“Blatant, outright lies from someone who knew all along that these figures would be forced on the public by the end of the first term.”

Why? Did his crystal ball tell him that he would be subjected to a racist, klan filled congress who would obstruct his every move, even to the detriment of the American people, simply to try and score political points? Those taxes don’t have to go up, but that’s obviously what W and his wingnut congress meant to happen.

Maybe it was W who had the crystal ball and it told him that after 8 years of his policies America would need the higher taxes to pay for all his disasters.

I’m not sure how we can trust any polls since they are mostly within the margin of error..(assuming that is consistently calculated….) Since this is the truth, we got ourselves a toss up that only turnout will allay…..I think at this point BO will win…but no small amount of evidence to the contrary exists..

Yes it is. Who could have guessed that the keynote speaker for the RNC and Romney advocate, would be the Gov. of one of the states hardest hit by the storm of the century, which in turn causes him to turn to the man who he deemed as “lacking leadership” to ask for aid and then praise that same man for his leadership abilities.

Seriously, you can’t make this stuff up. :)

Active duty military is heavily wingnut, veterans are usually Democrats. Once they return from their wingnut wars and realize wingnuts will greet them at the airport, give them a cup of coffee and walk away, they usually turn to the party who will take care of them in return for their sacrifices…

That being said, active duty folks are tired of wingnut warmongering… I wouldn’t be surprised if they were voting a little more democratic this year.

That’s right, you did, I got the two of them mixed up. I’ve been trying to read up on trusts since you’ve been mentioning them; my mom has some assets that she wants me to shield from my no-good younger brother. She’s got me in her will to receive practically everything from her estate, but she’s concerned that if I predecease her, that Captain Scumbag will get a slick lawyer and wind up getting it all. Thus my interest in trusts.

A GRAT’s got more do to with avoiding gift taxes on gifts to family members; I was reading this past weekend about a court case involving a member of the Wal-Mart Waltons who wound up in court over how she valued a pair of GRATs.

“I live in the Tribeca area, still got water issues.”

Tap water you can do without for a while; you can get bottled at the corner bodega for drinking. And as far as bathing goes, there’s always the Y or your gym. Or maybe rent a cheap hotel room for a night (if such can be found) in an area where there are no water issues? There are also waterless cloths for bathing that hospitals use; I had to use them for 2-3 weeks after my surgery. Those might be obtainable from medical supply or camping goods stores.

Private sector adds most jobs in 8 months in Oct

NEW YORK (Reuters) – Companies added 158,000 jobs in October in the biggest gain in eight months, data from a payrolls processor showed on Thursday in a revamped report on the private sector labor market.

The historical data for the ADP National Employment Report was revised as part of the new methodology, which was used for the first time in the October report. September’s increase has halved to 88,200 new jobs from an initially reported 162,000.

October’s increase was the biggest jump since February and topped economists’ forecasts for a gain of 135,000 jobs.

“Religion “binds”. Christianity “frees” !

“Religion emphasizes precepts, propositions, performance, production, programs, promotion, percentages, etc. Christianity emphasizes the Person of Jesus Christ, and His life lived out through the receptive Christian believer.

Christianity is not religion! Christianity is Christ! Christianity is “Christ-in-you-ity.” Jesus Christ did not found a religion to remember and reiterate His teaching. Christianity is the personal, spiritual presence of the risen and living Lord Jesus Christ, manifesting His life and character in Christians, i.e. “Christ-ones.” Paul explained, “It is no longer I who live, but Christ lives in me; and the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave Himself up for me” (Gal. 2:20).”

UAW Files Charges Against Romney on his Auto Bail-out Profiteering

Broke ethics law hiding millions, say good government groups
by Greg Palast
Toledo, Ohio – Wednesday October 31, 2012
For Mitt Romney, it’s one scary Halloween. The Presidential candidate has just learned that tomorrow afternoon he will charged with violating the federal Ethics in Government law by improperly concealing his multi-million dollar windfall from the auto industry bail-out.
At a press conference in Toledo, Bob King, President of the United Automobile Workers, will announce that his union and Citizens for Responsibility and Ethics in Washington (CREW) have filed a formal complaint with the US Office of Government Ethics in Washington stating that Gov. Romney improperly hid a profit of $15.3 million to $115.0 million in Ann Romney’s so-called “blind” trust.
