Hurricane Sandy produces two storm-tossed allies

121031_obama_christie_ap_605-1

————————-

“The president has been all over this, he deserves great credit … He gave me his number at the White House, told me to call if I needed anything, and he absolutely means it.”
– Gov. Chris Christie, on “Morning Joe”

————————-

“The federal government’s response has been great. I was on the phone at midnight again last night with the president, personally, he has expedited the designation of New Jersey as a major disaster area … The president has been outstanding in this and so have the folks at FEMA.”
– Gov. Chris Christie, on “The Today Show”

————————-

“I want to just let you know that your governor is working overtime to make sure that as soon as possible everybody can get back to normal. The main message I wanted to send is the entire country has been watching what’s been happening. Everybody knows how hard Jersey’s been hit.”
– President Obama, speaking of Christie to residents in a shelter near Atlantic City

————————-

Is it just me, or is there an odd man out in this mutual admiration society?

In better times, this kind of demonstration of bipartisan cooperation and assistance in a time of crisis would almost go unremarked upon, but these are not those times. In a nation that hungers for such cooperation, even if it does not understand how to produce it, this kind of partnership stands out, to the benefit of the besieged people of New Jersey and, frankly, to the political benefit of the two men involved. As Obama made a point of noting, “the entire country has been watching what’s been happening.”

As an aside, it does make you wonder how this scenario might have played out had Christie been nominated as Mitt Romney’s running mate. You also have to think that there are people in the upper echelons of the Romney campaign cursing not just Christie but the weather gods as well. In a close-fought election, they have handed Obama an opportunity that he seems to have seized with both hands.

“but intelligent people know that when these types of Laurel and Hardy Politicians start “cooperating”………..one better hold on to your walllets or hold on to what civil liberties that one has left.”

O-kaaay, intelligent person, please tell us if “hold onto your wallets” means we should not provide any relief in the aftermath of Hurricane Sandy and also tell those of us who have difficulty following your intelligent train of thought what civil liberties we’re about to lose because Pres Obama and Gov Christie are working together in the aftermath of a national disaster?

A good question for the GOP Why is it that Romney now believes FEMA should get “the funding it needs,” but last year, he said “we cannot afford” to fully fund the agency? Other than the calendar, what’s changed?

What a bunch of crap ! And a demonstration of the futile attempts from the Left to save Obama.

A pure sign of desperation is over the top praise for president doing his basic job. It’s not that Obama is doing his job in connection with the storm damage. The point is, he has not done the job over the last almost 4 years.

As to Christie, do you really think when his state needs federal assistance he is going to spit in Obama’s face?

This “match” is of a short term necessity for NJ. I’m sure if Christie had the time to expand, he’d say that bigger (non-emergency crisis) picture that Romney is the better fit to create jobs, turn our economy around and get America back on its feet. He’d also say Obama is a free wheeling spender who will raise our national debt to 20+ trillion in a second term.

Look people, I get the changes to society that liberals want, but not at the sake of our country in a time of financial crisis. We simply can’t afford the amount of entitlements that the left enjoys and we certainly cannot afford Obamacare. Remember when Kennedy said ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country? Best thing you can do is set aside those society-laden wants for now and vote for the candidate who will set us on the right path to recovery. ROMNEY

Listening to Erin Burnett last night to push Bay Buchanan to criticize Christie was really quite pathetic actually. Pathetic for what it says about our so-called journalistic analysis in this country. While even just a year or two ago the camaraderie btw the two men would have been taken for granted and if anything provoked minor fascination/admiration, nowadays it evokes barely disguised sneers. We really do seem to be getting to a place quickly where the most crass cynicism is not only assumed, but demanded outright.

Obama hasn’t “seized” any opportunities, he’s just doing his job. It’s simply amazing to see how smooth things go when he doesn’t have to deal with a racist, obstructionist congress…

Maybe this storm wasn’t unleashed upon us because of gay people… maybe it was sent because of all the false prophets claiming to know god’s word and intentions… maybe it was a test from god, and Obama and Christie passed with flying colors… while Mittens?… well not so much… with his bogus, fake and staged “relief” effort in Ohio. He did have to clean up a football field once however.

Poor old Mittens, he had some good momentum, he was staying silent (in the hope that Obama would flub the storm response as bad as W did), but simply couldn’t leave well enough alone. A simple video taped heartfelt response, and then step aside to let the folks who need to be busy right now do their jobs would’ve been a better course of action, but they had to let him step out there, stand in front of a bunch of purchased goods posing as donations, and open his pie hole, and once again he proves just out of touch he really is.

“Mitt lied, people died”.

That’s reserved for where it belongs. A poor president who either ignored the plea’s for additional security or failed to properly manage his state department resulting in the death of four Americans and then attempting to cover it up. The damning cable directly sent to Secretary of State Hillery Clinton one month before the attack proves beyond doubt the gross malfeasance that exists within this administration.

If you’re a Suthuner and you’ve been around folks from Jersey and NYC very much, you already know that they are often (by our standards), brusque, hurried, sharp-tongued and sometimes even rude. That’s just the norm up there. When Christie is bombastic and harsh, that’s just the Jersey boy in him coming out. But don’t doubt for a moment that he knows what the situation is, what the people of his state need and what’s necessary to make that happen.

For all his bluff and bluster, Christie obviously saw the reports and pictures coming in of the damage, said ‘ohspit’ and got the President on the horn. Christie did the right thing, and more importantly, he’s *doing* the right thing. Same goes for the President. Things like political parties and favorite sports teams and whether you call it ‘pop,’ ’soda’ or ‘co-cola’ are all beside the point when something like Sandy happens. You set aside those differences — like Governor Christie and President Obama did — and you get to work.

I didn’t think much of Governor Christie before this week, but his stock has risen considerably in my eyes as a result of this.

How strange. And Christie has about as much chance of winning a Republican presidential nomination as Rudy Guilliani did. So what did it for you? What got you ‘over the hump’ and made you finally not only embrace Mitt, but do so enthusiastically and fervently, as though he was the one you supported all along?

See, this is the difference between someone like JohnnyReb and me.

While JohnnyReb desires fervently for Mitt Romney to be elected, believing that it will basically set things right in the world, because it will mean that his “side” has won, I do concede that I hope that Obama wins but I hold no illusions about what will ultimately come of his victory.

That’s the difference between me and you.

While I certainly do want Obama to beat the psychopath duo, and have certain reasons for wanting it, I also, unlike JohnnyReb – like his fellows here Recon, and others – have no illusions about the fact that we are completely screwed and we are headed into very dark times ahead because of the depraved moral character of the ruling elite — which is entirely BI-PARTISAN — and the determination of that elite, faced with the most serious crisis of capitalism in nearly a century, to re-institute a new form of neo-feudalism in this country to rival the Chinese.

What someone like you doesn’t seem to be able to step back and allow into the narrow spaces of his mind is the simple fact that the crisis we’re now in is systemic, not simply a crisis brought on by one administration or even party.

That’s the difference between you and me.

Just because these two men are genuine in their concern for others does not negate the fact that they can also be aware of the political benefit of their “partnership.” They can contain both truths, with their overriding concern being care for the people who will benefit from their “servant leadership.”

Contrast that with Mitt Romney’s posed care for the victims of hurricane Sandy as he spoke of preparing “rows” or “aisles” of food for them. This man seems to exist so much on the surface, that he appears incapable of deeper feeling for others, outside of his family.

The possibility of having another President who lives out political spin of truth as reality is abhorrent to me. President Obama does not experience others in a surface way nor does he condone political spin as truth, in large measure. Remember that on Nov. 6.

The spirit of cooperation and compromise that one characterized our governance was undermined by Newt Gingrich’s scorched-earth tactics starting in the 90s. Since then, the heaping helpings of extreme bias offered up by the likes of Rush Limbaugh, Fox & Friends, Sean Hannity, et. al., have made for an even more polarized climate where the base will brook no middle ground. So it is indeed rare to see and hear this type of demonstration of bipartisanship. President Obama went into his term with hopes of reaching across the aisle, but the Republicans would have no part of it. They’ll vote for the psychopath twins no matter what.

Well, short of last-minute revelations that Romney has been living a Sandusky-like double life. Or short of him claiming he’s “bigger than Jesus”, or some other such outrage to get the rubes all riled up.

Christie needs a quick response; Obama needs some good publicity. Nothing wrong with that. Obama should be thankful that Christie is in charge and not Blanco, Nagin, and the royal Landrieus. Republican governors. Ya gotta love ‘em. But not Deal. He still acts like the democrat he used to be.

@ GT – you might want to ask Mayor Cory Booker how fast the left will throw you under the bus for saying something nice about a Republican. Both sides do it dude. Until we get away from this “us vs them” mentality we are never going to be able to fix this mess.

I have read alot where Obama is just ” doing his job” in response to the damage and tragic loss of life after Hurricane Sandy. He has always ” done his job” the last four years, especially in the wake of natural disasters. He hired Jeb Bush’s director of emergency management to be the director of FEMA, someone who actually qualified for the job.

The previous administration and president didnt do this.

By the way, anyone remember the floods in this state in 2009? I do, living in one of the affected counties , FEMA was here until the middle of November , two months after the flood.

See what happens when you someone who’s qualified at a position instead of a political cronie.

I love it. Last night I looked at the FOX News home page for fun. Not ONE single mention of Chris Christie or the president’s appearance. Just a big spread on more big, shocking Libya revelations.

I’ve never seen such a pouting front page in my life. :)

The possibility of having another President who lives out political spin of truth as reality is abhorrent to me. President Obama does not experience others in a surface way nor does he condone political spin as truth, in large measure. Remember that on Nov. 6.

Cory Booker is thrown under the bus — and I’m throwing the bus into reverse once again right now to back over him once more for good measure — not for “making nice” with a Republican but because he’s a total fake, an astroturf politician who’s been propped up by right-wing education and financial interests throughout his entire career. The guy is entirely in the Arthur Davis mold.

curious, 9:52,

“Your president is a liar”. Please carefully read the following…..” If you make less than 250K/yr, your taxes will not go up….. not a thin dime”.

We are getting ready for the biggest tax increase in US history as of January 1, 2013.

Families with an income of 70K…… up $4138

Baby Boomers with an income of 95K…… up $4223

Low income families with incomes of 24.7K….. up $1027

Retirees with an income of 42.7K….. up $857

Millennials with an income of 23.9K….. up $1099

Now those are lies, curious. Blatant, outright lies from someone who knew all along that these figures would be forced on the public by the end of the first term.

I shudder to think about kids out in costume with no streetlights on, emergency vehicles flying about and possibly live, downed power lines laying about…As for what “armed FEDRALIE goons” did to kids last night… that’s just in your sick and twisted fantasy… there were no Mexican Fedralies in NJ last night, nor were there “armed” Federal agents out enforcing Christies State level proclamation…

I’m sure there’s a HUGE issue in NJ this morning with all those people who bought candy and didn’t have a single trick or treater…
