I don’t know who will win the presidency come Nov. 6. I do know, however, that at this point, based on polling, Barack Obama remains the clear favorite to win an electoral-college majority.
I understand that’s a controversial statement among some. Sites such as Nate Silver’s fivethirtyeight.com have become targets of sustained attacks and critiques by supporters of Mitt Romney for making similar statements. But it’s nonetheless true.
To document that claim, let’s take a look at the race using a data source that ought to sidestep all conservative claims of “skewed polling” and “media bias,” etc. Let’s examine it using numbers generated solely by Rasmussen, using definitions of “leaning” and “tossup” states as applied by Rasmussen. And before we do, let’s take a moment to establish just how Republican-leaning the Rasmussen numbers really are by looking at state polling data.
Colorado: Rasmussen has Romney up by four points, which is a fairly large margin. Yet of the 10 polls released in that state in the last two weeks, eight have Obama up. The only only other poll showing a Romney lead in Colorado — an American Research Group poll released Oct. 28 — has Romney up by just one.
Ohio: Of the 21 polls released in the past two weeks, only one — Rasmussen — has Romney in the lead, in Rasmussen’s case a lead of two points. Most other polls give Obama a two-to-five-point lead.
Wisconsin: Rasmussen’s latest poll, released Oct. 25, puts Paul Ryan’s home state in a tie. Every other poll conducted in the state since Aug. 21 — more than two dozen in all — has put Obama ahead, the most recent ones by a margin of two to six points.
Now, it may turn out that Rasmussen is right and almost everyone else is wrong. That can’t be discounted. But for our purposes, there’s no doubt that by using Rasmussen in our analysis, we are using numbers most favorable to the Republican cause.
And what does Rasmussen tell us?
Well, if you look at its electoral college map, using Rasmussen-generated polling data, we find the following breakdown:
Obama and Obama-leaning states: 237 electoral votes
Romney and Romney-leaning states: 206 electoral votes
Tossups: 95 electoral votes
In other words, to get to the magical 270 electoral votes, Romney needs to win 64 of the 95 tossup votes available. That’s 67.4 percent, or two out of three available votes.
To get to the magical 270 votes, Obama needs to win just 33 of the 95 tossup votes, basically a little more than one out of every three tossup votes.
That’s why Obama is the favorite. Having to win one out of three is a lot easier than having to win two out of three.
It is true, of course, that favorites don’t always win. The Florida Gators were favored over the Georgia Bulldogs last week in Jacksonville, but the Gators got beat. Six turnovers will do that to you almost every time, and that’s a turn of events that the oddsmakers didn’t anticipate. Likewise, it is entirely feasible that come Tuesday — especially given a somewhat wacky polling environment — Obama will join the Gators on the long list of favorites who went down in defeat.
But using the data source most favorable to the Republican cause, that’s not the way to bet.

Mr. Billings, that is an article written to deceive, and in your case it clearly succeeded.
In the actual Battleground Poll, Obama is up 49-48. The little “election model” referred to in your link is some kind of thing that has nothing to do with the Battleground Poll, which is conducted jointly by a Democratic and Republican pollsters.
The Republican pollster took the Battleground results, ran them through his own little “model,” and spun the results to produce the 52-47 outcome that you and others now trot out.
Again, that “model” has nothing to do with the Battleground poll, and was created as partisan spin.

Well, it’s good to be in the trailer out of that wind.
I reckon either Romney or Obama will win. If it’s Romney I’ll be on this blog lickety-split to tell all the libruls to kiss my grits. If it’s Obama I’ll be laying low, trying to dodge #1 Foxy Lady and what she always tells us when a Democrat wins.
Anyhow, I’m laying in PBR and a couple big bags of fried pork skins for Tuesday night. It might be very late before they tell us who won, and if so I won’t much care provided I’ve got enough PBR. Somebody’s going to be right about all the polling, and somebody’s going to be sucking the big one. And I don’t want none of this “I was just messin’ with ya” BS from the people that were flat-out wrong. I expect the people that were wrong to get on here and tell everybody what a big loser they are.

It’s true that at some point, Corporate America has to put money into America. However, we are nowhere near that point and you may be certain jobs will continue to go overseas for as long it’s profitable.
The con arguement for this is that they can’t make a profit and stay in business unless these jobs and factories go to China, etc. This is not true. They can keep the jobs and factories here in America and make a good profit. Or, they can go overseas and make a great profit. Needless to say, they go for the maximun profit and don’t mind, in the slightest, turning their backs on the American worker.

Well, I’m sorry you missed out on a great Southren tradition. Us boys would get together with bars of soap to soap the windows of people that never had treats. And if we really didn’t like somebody, we’d turn over their outhouse and laugh about them wandering about looking for a place to go in the morning. “A Republican, in a wheelchair, entered a restaurant one afternoon and asked the waitress for a cup of coffee. The Republican looked across the restaurant and asked, “Is that Jesus sitting over there?”
The waitress nodded “yes,” so the Republican requested that she give Jesus a cup of coffee, on him.
The next patron to come in was a Libertarian, with a hunched back. He shuffled over to a booth, painfully sat down, and asked the waitress for a cup of hot tea. He also glanced across the restaurant and asked, “Is that Jesus, over there?” The waitress nodded, so the Libertarian asked her to give Jesus a cup of hot tea, “My treat.”
The third patron to come into the restaurant was a Democrat on crutches. He hobbled over to a booth, sat down and hollered, “Hey there honey! How’s about getting me a cold mug of Miller Light?” He too looked across the restaurant and asked, “Isn’t that God’s boy over there?”
The waitress nodded, so the Democrat directed her to give Jesus a cold beer. “On my bill,” he said loudly.
As Jesus got up to leave, he passed by the Republican, touched him and said, “For your kindness, you are healed.” The Republican felt the strength come back into his legs, got up, and danced a jig out the door.
Jesus passed by the Libertarian, touched him and said, “For your kindness, you are healed.” The Libertarian felt his back straightening up and he raised his hands, praised the Lord, and did a series of back flips out the door.
Then, Jesus walked towards the Democrat, just smiling. The Democrat jumped up and yelled, “Don’t touch me …. I’m on disability.”

10 Reasons to Vote for Obama
1. You believe that Government is the solution to all problems and the bigger the government is the more robust the economy.
2. You believe that people who want to keep most of what they have worked to earn are greedy and shouldbe criticized and people who use the Government to take from others are deserving and are the foundation of our country.
3.You believe in equal reward for unequal effort and risk.
4.You want to find out what Obama promised the Russian Premier when he said he would have more flexibility after the election.
5.You enjoy watching the news weasels fawn all over Obama and lose all ability at objective reporting.
6. You believe that never holding a private job and being a community organizer is ample experience to be president but a life time of succesfully running businesses and being a Governor are not.
7. You believe that heathcare, food, clothing ,education , and housing are a right and that someone should provide you with these.
8. You actually believe in centrally managed socialist economy and dispite all the evidence that it has failled miserable everywhere it has been tried you cling to the notion that it just needs one more chance.
9. You believe slogans like “hope and change” and “moving forward” have deep and clear meaning but when one outlines their agenda they are not providing enough details.
10. You want to enjoy a whole week where you are not accused of being a racist!

In a way it’s kinda funny you used that phraseology.
I just finished watching the History Channel’s series, “The Men Who Built America”
Fascinating stuff – and while some of the details get muddled in “dramatic license”, the stories are reasonably accurate.
My only issue was the title of the series. It would be more accurate to title it as:
“The men who saw opportunity, seized it, ruthlessly quashed all competition and made personal fortunes in the tens and hundreds of billion dollars”
Now I am not anti-capitalist, nor am I against someone seeing and cashing in on opportunity.
But I would never think to paint any of them as ‘patriots’ who were on a mission to make life better for Americans. That what they accomplished did provide for some measure of benefit was incidental, not causitive.

The issue is not simply that someone might mark a ballot by order of appearance of the candidates, but that order of appearance implies justifiable dominance when one party or the other is always positioned first. The study of psychology reveals more than the average person is aware – especially knowledge of corporate and industrial psychological tactics. Knowledge is power. The people cannot have the power unless they are first aware of subtle manipulation of their perceptions. As I have often advised on this blog – look deeper than the surface.

The old “Eastern Airlines” used to have the MIRACLE FLIGHT. Some flight attendants told me about it years ago.
Little old Jewish ladies by the dozens would get on the daily morning flight from LaGuardia to Miami in wheelchairs needing all kinds of assistance.
By the time the flight got to Miami they had been HEALED and just walked off the plane !

I guess I’d forgotten that the NYC Marathon was this weekend. Not really sure how I feel about the plans to run it even though the city’s still pretty much a shambles.
http://www.nytimes.com/2012/11/01/sports/new-york-city-marathon-may-cancel-opening-ceremony-and-5k.html?_r=0
Mayor Michael R. Bloomberg and marathon organizers have said the race will go on as scheduled, as it has every year since 1970, as a symbol of the city’s ability to rally after hard times.
“It’s a great event for New York, and I think for those who were lost, you know, you’ve got to believe they would want us to have an economy and have a city go on for those that they left behind,” Bloomberg said.
But that plan has been met with a backlash from area residents and even many runners registered for the marathon who believe it is in poor taste to hold a road race through the five boroughs as hundreds of thousands of people in nearby areas continue to suffer the damage wrought by the storm.
Critics of the plan to hold the marathon also say that diverting the police and fire crews to perform marathon duties is a misuse of precious public services.

He certainly did make a mistake if the thought they would act in the interest of their shareholders and institutions.
The one and only interest these bank moguls have is the enrichment of their own personal estates. Nothing else matters.

4 days in Florida and I was so pround to see many whites supporting this great President, Latinos, blacks, standing in line for hours voting for Obama, to bad these bigots in Georgia can not get behind the President who saved this country from disaster, this is why Georgia will never be a factor in anything.
What happen to Obama supportors not being excited? fox news low informed voters fall for anything.
Hey rep in Ny, Nj how do you like Femma now? I can not wait to see these southern white conservatives males, mental rep women, skin heads, Nazis tea party face from Mitt campaign supporters when they see real Americans who dont look like them put the President back in office.

So lets see if Jay posts on Lowery’s comments. Probably not because you know he be an icon, you know. Racism is bone deep… thank you Rev (reverend, oh please) Lowery for saying what you feel and what you stand for. This old fool should just go away but no, statues will be erected for this racist…ironic isn’t it. He fought against racism but now supports it wholeheartedly And he too dumb to recognize that he is racist. Gotta love it.Dress him up, drag him out for the cameras and let him spout away. Reaffirms what we’ve always known. Racism closet isn’t big enough for this old fool. Kaseem the Dream will erect a statue for him for sure. Dumb and dumber.
