Obama is reaching across the aisle, in a BIPARTISAN way, with LEADERSHIP during the hurricane Sandy crisis. Chris Christie agrees.
Just thought I’d let some conservative heads explode or make excuses for why I shouldn’t bring that up.

Adam,
Christie is like every other “Conservative” Republican. He will rant about President Obama’s spending, but when a disaster hits him and his, he wants that federal money NOW!!!
Like Paul rand and the stimulus, voted against it, but asked for it for his constituents, even saying it would bring more jobs and help the economy. Gotta laugh at ‘em…

As I posted yesterday, America is not ready to see an oxygen canister as part of the inauguration festivities.
On the serious side campaigning and being president require almost insane energy. As they explained to my whining @$$ in the Army physical fitness means your brain works better, especially when you’re stressed. I think Newt kind of lost it during his campaign partly because he’s such a marshmallow puff. Being crazy didn’t help of course.

I disagree…that’s the only thing that had him leading the primary for awhile. If he wasn’t crazy he would never have a chance in the GOP. Romney is not crazy, but he did have to act that way to get through the primary…

it can’t hurt Obama to be seen touring with Chris Christie. Obama will get a ton of free press from this showing him doing his job and reaching out with a Republican Governor. Romney, on the other hand, has to spend money and campaign while not throwing stones at the President. Add the fact that Clinton can go out and campaign on behalf of Obama, while the President deals with the aftermath of Sandy and you have a perfect Trifecta.

Well, all I know is I’m sure sick of those area 706 robo-calls from old Nathan about the charter school amenment. The phone ring and you answer. There’s this long pause. Then this voice in a barrel says, “This is Governor Nathan Deal . . .” It’s worse than the calls from the woman that wants you to call about your credit card debts or the people that want to install a burglar alarm in your home.
Let’s just get the election out of the way. Then we can start griping. Have a good Hump Day everybody. Only a week till the news people start explaining why they were wrong and why people voted the way they did and who voted for who. And the losers get on TV and start congratulating the opponents they hate with all their heart on “running a good campaign.”

If Romney wins, we’re really screwed in too many ways to inumerate.
If Obama wins, we’re screwed because the Republicans in the House will be even more intransigent expecting all movement — all compromise — to come from Obama.
This is truly a damned if you do and damned if you don’t situation.

Gregg Easterbrook, a columnist over at ESPN who writes about more than sports, makes an argument that the President should be allowed to serve as many terms as he can be elected for, but be prohibited from serving consecutive terms.
The first four years of a President’s term are little more than a re-election campaign. Under the scenario described above, the President could spend 4 years serving the country. If he did a good job, he could run again and be back in office in 4 years.

Here is the very ugly face and the story of Republican pigdom.
A filthy rich Republican idiot beloved by would-be filthy rich Republican idiots.
It’s official, Donald Trump is truly as tasteless as one of his gold-plated faux rococo monstrosities that dot Manhattan, some of which might be without power today in the wake of Hurricane Sandy. The Celebrity Apprentice host took to Twitter this morning to let President Obama know that, because of the storm, The Donald was extending his deadline for the president to release his college applications and records and his passport applications and records to extricate a $5 million bounty from Trump to donate to Obama’s favorite charity. Remember, this was his big “secret” that was going to “change the course of all elections ever of the universe in the most spectacularly amazing fashion that has never before been seen by humans since the dawn of democracy.” Yeah, you probably have bigger, less hairy fish to fry right now. “Because of the hurricane, I am extending my 5 million dollar offer for President Obama’s favorite charity until 12PM on Thursday,” he posted.
OK, a dozen people in New York City have died, hundreds of people have lost their homes to fires and flooding, a big chunk of the island of Manhattan is still without power, and this is what Trump is worried about? Do you think that Obama is really sitting around the Oval Office right now breathing a sigh of relief that he has an extra day for Trump’s ridiculous ransom so that he can now figure out how to manage the destruction of the Eastern Seaboard? No, he is not. And Trump reminding us about his vicious vendetta is only making him look stupider than his hair when it’s caught in the wind.
The comments on Twitter were quick and vicious. Many users called for Trump to just donate the $5 million to New York hurricane relief, a gesture that seems noble and would garner him a lot more good will than anything having to do with his silly quest to prove that Obama was somehow born in Kenya (something that even die-hard “birthers” don’t believe anymore). “How about you stop being a d**k, cease your disrespectful demands and donate the money to NY disaster relief,” wrote @Embassy730.

Random observations on Hurricane Sandy. Not to minimize the devistation and huge amounts of human suffering, this weather event contains lessons for us. Ten million people are unable to go to work today and for the foreseeable future because the mass transit system has been rendered inoperable. Repair of the system requires workers that cannot get to their jobs because of lack of transportation caused by the very damgae that they are needed to repair. In addition, if all in the danaged area were driving battery powered cars they would be in deep trouble with out power which they won’t have for weeks or even months.. If the principle source of eletrical power were windmills or solar how long if ever would it take to repair? The subway system is flooded with salt water which is extremely corrosive. Not only will the water have to be removed but the remainnig damage will not be easily repaired, The water in the subways is contaminated with oil, grease, trash and sewage. This water cannot be just pumped to the sea. There are EPA regulations that must be followed. Are there enough hazardous waste collection sites for the huge amount of contaminated water? This was barely a category one storm. What happens if a category three, four or five storm like the gulf coast gets hit with every couple of years hits the Northeast next time. Just a few questions that should have been asked before we wasted money on things like solyndra. This is not to criticise Obama but merely to point out we have a limited amount of money. Our limited funds should be used wisely to make our infrastructure disaster proof. Further we should be very wary of expensive mass transit systems which put all of our eggs in one basket. A little thinking could go a long way.

I’m not a liberal so I don’t have to hide what I believe in.
_______
Liberals don’t hide what they believe in. It’s Romney that did that in the GOP primaries. Or was that what he believed in and he’s hiding it now.
If he gets elected we will, maybe find out. Half the people that voted him will be really surprised.

S. Ray — “I’m not sure if you are challenging my posts but if so, please let me know specifics..”
I’m commenting generally on the level of innumeracy that seems to pervade the posts about polling. The margin of error on any given poll is usually the biggest indicator of accuracy, but somehow, some posters have convinced themselves that Rasmussen’s fudge factor is actually a *good* thing.
Rasmussen actually determines what he *thinks* turnout will be this year. I have no idea how he derives the number, but I can tell you that it’s absolute guesswork on his part. There’s no way to accurately determine turnout in advance.
Anyway, once Rasmussen has his turnout figures, he ‘corrects’ his poll results by applying those figures to them. If one party is ‘overrepresented’ according to his prediction of what turnout will be (again, bearing in mind that there’s no way for him to figure out what turnout will actually be), then he uses his turnout model to weight the figures for that party *downward.*
You used to be able to read about how he does this for free, but sometime late this summer, Razzie put it behind a paywall. Now you can’t read about it unless you’re one of his paying customers.
Anyway, long story short — due to his guesswork weighting model, Rasmussen’s numbers generally show about a 3-point bias towards Republicans. And yet some of our posters *swear* by Rasmussen.

As you liberals have said endlessly about Romney’s tax returns….. release ‘em. Trump is saying the same thing about Bozo’s transcripts…… release ‘em. I am sure that the release of Bozo’s transcripts would reveal a lot more about Bozo’s background than Romney’s tax returns would reveal about Romney. Romney states that he paid close to 14% on his taxable income which, according to the tax laws passed and maintained by Congress, is spot on. But Bozo’s transcripts? What does he have to hide?

Really, the left has no shame. Donald Trump made an offer to accomplish an objective. It is his money and his objective. The offer is simple. He will give Obama five million dollars that he Donald Trump has earned to any Barack Obama chairity including his own campaign fund for which Obama has had to borrow money from one of those evil banks. All Obama has to do is do something every other president has done. Obama won’t do it because Obama is hiding his past. The loons on the left find Obama’s actions to be embarrassing and cover their humiliation as lefties do by calling anyone they disagree with their vile, dishones, jealousy inspired cover up. Sorry folks. You are only fooling yourselves.

_____
Don’t know if liberals are more compassionate. They are more open to change and new ideas. That’s the difference between them and conservatives. When they try new things to help the country grow, that could be mistaken as compassion, I suppose, but it’s not the driving force behind what they do.

Oscar,
Depends on the skill. Some federal workers like FBI agents I would agree with you. But there is no reason as to why the average postal worker should be paid better in pension benefits than say a FedEx or UPS worker. The postal workers pension obligations are a prime reason as to why the postal svc is in trouble.

That still doesn’t address the pay disparity. Public sector employees are typically paid less with the promise of better retirement benefits. If you take away the better retirement without addressing the pay, you’re not going to get many qualified people to take those public sector jobs.

Rasmussen asks very pointed questions of each person he polls to determine how likely that voter will vote in the election. He determnes whether the voter voted in the previous election and how vested they are in voting in the present election and other similar questions to eliminate fake answers. He does not guess which is why his polls have historicly been the most accurate.
