Jeep: We’re staying in U.S., and Romney is wrong

From the Royal Oak (Mich.) Daily Tribune:

Chrysler Group LLC’s top executive said any statements by presidential candidate Mitt Romney suggesting the company was moving Jeep production from its assembly complex in Toledo, Ohio was simply not true.

“Chrysler Group’s production plans for the Jeep brand have become the focus of public debate,” Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne said in a statement on Tuesday.

“I feel obliged to unambiguously restate our position: Jeep production will not be moved from the United States to China,” he continued. “Jeep assembly lines will remain in operation in the United States and will constitute the backbone of the brand. … It is inaccurate to suggest anything different.”

Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has begun running ads in Ohio, stating Chrysler planned to move Jeep production to China. Analysts described the ads as part of Romney’s efforts to pry the state’s pivotal 18 electoral votes from President Barack Obama.

The letter from Marchionne, published first in the Detroit News, went on to explain:

“North American production is critical to achieving our goal of selling 800,000 Jeep vehicles by 2014. In fact, U.S. production of our Jeep models has nearly tripled (it is expected to be up 185%) since 2009 in order to keep up with global demand.

We also are investing to improve and expand our entire U.S. operations, including our Jeep facilities. The numbers tell the story:

– We will invest more than $1.7 billion to develop and produce the next generation Jeep SUV, the successor of the Jeep Liberty — including $500 million directly to tool and expand our Toledo Assembly Complex and will be adding about 1,100 jobs on a second shift by 2013.

– At our Jefferson North Assembly Plant, where we build the Jeep Grand Cherokee, we have created 2,000 jobs since June 2009 and have invested more than $1.8 billion.

– In Belvidere, where we build two Jeep models, we have added two shifts since 2009 resulting in an additional 2,600 jobs.

With the increase in demand for our vehicles, especially Jeep branded vehicles, we have added more than 11,200 U.S. jobs since 2009. Plants producing Jeep branded vehicles alone have seen the number of people invested in the success of the Jeep brand grow to more than 9,300 hourly jobs from 4,700. This will increase by an additional 1,100 as the Liberty successor, which will be produced in Toledo, is introduced for global distribution in the second quarter of 2013.”

It’s hard to predict the impact of such events, especially in the media shadow of Hurricane Sandy coverage. But you would think that the Romney campaign’s blatant willingness to mislead and to frighten thousands of Americans unnecessarily about their job security at Jeep would have a serious effect on public opinion and would lead at least some voters to question his credibility on a range of other issues as well. It demonstrates a fundamental lack of respect for those to whom the truth about such matters is critically important.

It amazes me that anyone has to have gotten this far to find out what a liar the man is. I learned that a LONG time ago with some of his early ads that had easily (and constantly) debunked lies in them.

I am embarrassed that some family members in Ohio think Mitt is the man for them. Mostly, it amounts to anyone but Obama. It is almost funny since the early part of the campaign, it was any republican but Mitt for the nominee. Sheesh, and I thought Daddy taught us all about thinking for ourselves.

Also, if Jeep opens a plant in China, I expect that to mean they are selling to the Chinese, not importing those back to the US.

I would expect that type of move.

Now, if 20 years down the road, Jeep starts to import the Chinese made Jeeps, then that is an issue for 20 years from now.

Chrysler is owned by……drumroll please…..FIAT. And here we find:

“In any case, Chrysler issued a statement saying it was considering resuming production of Jeeps in China that had been suspended in 2009, pending the outcome of the bailout and sale of the company to Fiat.

“Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China,” Chrysler said.

“It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world’s largest auto market,” the company said.

In fact there is yet another wrinkle to the Jeep story because, according to Autoblog, Fiat plans to begin building Jeeps in Italy on the same assembly line on which it builds Alfa Romeos, the storied marque it acquired years ago.

The Italian-built Jeeps will mostly be exported to the U.S. for sale here, whereas the Jeeps to be built in China will almost certainly all be sold in Asia.

Confused? Don’t be. Automakers around the world have for several decades been rationalizing production by moving specific models to facilities that can most efficiently and profitably produce them, regardless of where they are located.

That is a major – though not the only – reason why the Japanese, South Korean and German companies have built major facilities here in the U.S. and why U.S. companies have built major facilities in places like Mexico and China.

It’s a trend that almost certainly won’t stop regardless of who occupies the White House for the next four years.”

While Romney canceled his campaign plans in Virginia on Sunday, in addition to an event in Wisconsin Monday night, he still held a rally in Iowa Monday. The campaign said the event was attended by 2,250 people, according to a count of those who went through security.

It was 1979—————————————–
.

Chrysler Management decided to was time to visit their Uncle Scam.
.

The Chrysler bailout was everything Lockheed was – its predecessor in the bailout timeline by 9 years – and more. It was bigger and more expensive. Lockheed had loan guarantees worth $250 million dollars; Chrysler’s were for six times that amount,. The rationale for the rescue of Lockheed, the country’s biggest defense firm, was national defense. With Chrysler, it was the economy, and saving 200,000 jobs in the U.S.

But the big difference between the two was that the Chrysler recue package was much more complex. The terms of the Chrysler loan guarantees required an additional $2 billion in commitments or concessions from: “its own owners, stockholders, administrators, employees, dealers, suppliers, foreign and domestic financial institutions, and by State and local governments. ”

The Chrysler bailout of 1980 was not quite a pre-packaged bankruptcy reorganization. It left the company with the same management team, the same union contracts, the same pension obligations, and the same health care coverage; all the bailout did was buy the company a few more years. Indeed, the pre-bailout industry looked almost identical to the post-bailout industry. None of the Detroit automakers, Chrysler included, received any long-term benefits from the bailout.

Chrysler survived, but a slow necrosis gradually handed over the dominance of the US automobile market to the Japanese, Koreans, and Germans. In 1980, Detroit had a ~75% market share of autos sold in the US. For the first time ever in May 2008, that number slipper under 50%, and its now down to ~48%.

Plus, you got the details wrong. I didn’t leave the GOP until *after* the invasion in the spring of 2003, so the Democrats weren’t my “friends” yet, your laughably inaccurate guess notwithstanding.

Catch up to the rest of the class, Cowboy.

Romney ad tells truth about Jeep production in China; Left freaks out

“During a campaign speech in Definance, Ohio, last Thursday, Romney did misstate Jeep’s plans, claiming Chrysler was considering moving “all” Jeep production to China:

“I saw a story today that one of the great manufacturers in this state Jeep — now owned by the Italians — is thinking of moving all production to China[.]”

Romney was apparently responding to a confusing statement by Mike Manley, president and CEO of the Jeep brand early last week:

Fiat SpA (F), majority owner of Chrysler Group LLC, plans to return Jeep output to China and may eventually make all of its models in that country, according to the head of both automakers’ operations in the region.

Fiat is in “very detailed conversations” with its Chinese partner, Guangzhou Automobile Group Co. (2238), about making Jeeps in the world’s largest auto market, said Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia. Chrysler hasn’t built Jeeps there since before Fiat took control in 2009.

“The volume opportunity for us is very significant,” Manley, who is also president of the Jeep brand, said in an interview at Chrysler’s Auburn Hills, Michigan, headquarters. “We’re reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity” as well as “should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio.”

Chrysler subsequently clarified Manley’s comments:

Let’s set the record straight: Jeep has no intention of shifting production of its Jeep models out of North America to China. It’s simply reviewing the opportunities to return Jeep output to China for the world’s largest auto market. U.S. Jeep assembly lines will continue to stay in operation.

As the Detroit News notes, building cars in China is unremarkable:

Chrysler previously built Jeeps in China — and the move would not be unusual. Ford Motor Co. builds Ford vehicles in China for Chinese buyers and General Motors Co. builds Buicks in China for local consumers.

So what exactly does Romney’s ad — the one that has the Left in full-blown freak-out mode— say about all this?

Obama took GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy, and sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China. Mitt Romney will fight for every American job.

The liberal journalists leading the charge insist this is terribly deceptive even as they acknowledge that every word of it is true. Here’s Kevin Drum of Mother Jones:

Technically, every word of this is true. Obama did force GM and Chrysler through a managed bankruptcy. Fiat did end up buying Chrysler. And Chrysler is thinking about building Jeeps in China.

And here’s Jonathan Cohn of The New Republic:

Although the statements about Chrysler are true individually, together they imply that the Obama Administration’s action led to the outsourcing of American jobs. That is obviously false, both in the specific sense of what Chrysler is doing and in the more general sense of what the entire auto industry is doing.

Got that? It’s “truly nauseating”and “obviously false” to tell the truth about Jeep’s plans to build plants in China because … because … Romney!

At least one mainstream media outlet has bought into the Left’s ridiculous narrative:

A National Journal article is running on Yahoo! News is headlined, “Romney Ad Wrongly Implies Chrysler is Sending U.S. Jobs to China.”

For months, the Left has criticized Romney for allegedly outsourcing jobs to China.

Now that the shoe is on the other foot, the Left suddenly sees no problem whatsoever with manufacturing in China.”

What will a new Republican Administration do differently from the last one?

The last Republican Administration destroyed 4,560,000 manufacturing jobs in 8 years, while Obama has increased manufacturing employment by 512,000 since 1/2010. We now have in-sourcing of jobs under Obama where skilled union workers like chrysler are more important than low cost workers. The last Republican administration inherited a 4% unemployment and doubled it to 8% at the end of the administration, inherited a surplus and turned it into a trillion dollar deficit, inherited Dow Jones Industrial Average of 10,500 that rose to 11,091 on June 7, 2001 when he signed legislation that started his tax cuts for the rich, but resulted in a 30% decrease in the Dow to 8,000 by the end of the administration. Tickle down does not work. Republicans make the economy worse, where Democrats make things gradually better. Of course we are better off than 4 years ago. Obama has increased total employment over 4 million, increased manufacturing employment over half a million, maintained the same deficit that he inherited, and more than doubled your retirement IRAs and investments with the doubling of the Dow from 6,600 to now over 13,000 or over 6 trillion dollars in stock market value. When those capital gains are taxed you will see a dramatic increase in revenue and decrease in deficit.

Even as the streets of Manhattan were flooding and hundreds of thousands of residents lost power Monday night, the New York Times turned its attention back to national politics. It published a misleading editorial attacking Gov. Romney and in defense of “Big Government.”
Disaster coordination is one of the most vital functions of “big government,” which is why Mitt Romney wants to eliminate it…Mr. Romney not only believes that states acting independently can handle the response to a vast East Coast storm better than Washington, but that profit-making companies can do an even better job. He said it was “immoral” for the federal government to do all these things if it means increasing the debt.
That false charge of wanting to “eliminate” disaster relief is based on a YouTube clip of Romney during one of the primary debates responding to a question about sending responsibility for disaster relief back to the states.
Romney replied that he thought states could handle disaster response and then spoke more generally about what items belonged in the federal budget:
Romney: Absolutely. Every time you have an occasion to take something from the federal government and send it back to the states, that’s the right direction. And if you can go even further, and send it back to the private sector, that’s even better. Instead of thinking, in the federal budget, what we should cut, we should ask the opposite question, what should we keep? We should take all of what we’re doing at the federal level and say “What are the things we’re doing that we don’t have to do?” and those things we’ve got to stop doing. Because we’re borrowing $1.6 trillion dollars more this year than we’re taking in. We can not afford to do those things without jeopardizing the future for our kids. It is simply immoral in my view for us to continue to rack up larger and larger debts and pass them on to our kids knowing full well that we’ll all be dead and gone before it’s paid off. Makes no sense at all.
At one point near the end of Romney’s answer moderator John King, who was clearly aware Romney had wandering beyond FEMA, interjected “Including disaster relief though?” But Romney rolled right over him and remained focused on the larger issues of debt, borrowing and the federal budget as a whole.
What the Times did Monday is take Romney’s statement about the immorality of our unsustainable debt–something President Obama himself once called “irresponsible” and “unpatriotic”–and suggest this means there would be a no resources to deal with a disaster if Romney had his way.
Actually, the opposite is true. If we fail to control big government spending, as Barack Obama has failed to do, every program eventually gets crowded out in favor of entitlements and payments of interest on debt. This is not an academic exercise. States are facing this dilemma now. Even liberal enclaves like Illinois, New Jersey and Wisconsin are coming around to the necessity of serious reform to stave off looming fiscal disaster. But the Times clearly hasn’t caught on to the trend.
The argument for big government is always a simple one. There are needs which must be met now! That’s an easy sell, especially during a natural disaster when people are understandably frightened. No doubt that’s why the Times published this attack Monday night at the height of the storm.
But Romney is right about the big picture. At some point we need to deal with our immoral, irresponsible and unpatriotic big government spending to ensure we have resources available for future emergencies.

And you call yourself a journalist….what a hack

“Obama took GM and Chrysler into bankruptcy, and sold Chrysler to Italians who are going to build Jeeps in China. Mitt Romney will fight for every American job.”

It is kind of a un-written agreement within the power companies, which is kind of cool. They have always helped out each other even though they know the people that are being helped aren’t within their “operating area” (i.e, they won’t be making money from them). Yes, Southern Company can broker power to them if they need it but in the scheme of things their market is down here with us. The bottom line is, Southern Company and all of its operating companies (GPC, Mississippi Power. Gulf Power and Alabama Power) that are sending personnel to help the people up North are going to foot the bill for their workers. And that bill will be huge as they are probably going to be their for months. I really do feel sorry for the folks up there.

And already today, the networks and newspapers are nibbling around the topic about how this will impact the election. And to that I say, who gives a crap? We have some 6 million of our fellow Americans without power tonight (and many who have damaged homes or no home to return to) and the temperatures are going to be in the 40’s up there. K71 — “I read every word of the two links you supplied and neither said anything about the predictions being debunked.”

Clearly you didn’t read them.

The model was just created… how has it predicted anything?

To check the accuracy of this approach, the team applied it to every presidential election since 1980, and they found that it would have correctly predicted the outcome in each race — even during campaigns in which independent candidates ran strongly.

The model’s *not* 32+ years old; it was only created this year — so it hasn’t “predicted” anything.

And it’s that 32-year record that has conservatives — including you — crowing about the inevitability of a Romney victory. Without that record and without any independent evaluation of the methodology, those two professors might have as well pulled those numbers out of their hindquarters.

“Nor was any mention made of any post election prediction.”

It is the economy, and we are not stupid! Obama is one and done! It is so amusing to watch the liberal apologists fluffing up campaign speeches, trying to show that Romney is truly a liar, and opportunist, and a carpet bagger. Of course he is, he is a politician! People EXPECT this of politicians. Show me one that doesnt do this, and I will show you a former, FAILED politician. Billy Clinton lied on live TV, on a coast to coast broadcast! Was caught, disbarred, impeached, and still you brain dead liberals love him! Hang on his every speech like he is some kind of prophet, instead of just an excellent manipulator.

But along with the lies, has to be some productivity. And you cannot lie about anything and everything. There is still a moral obligation to tell the truth about national security, and terrorism.

There is no better proof that Romney is cruising to a win, than these relentless articles in irrelevant daily papers about what a scoundrel he is! No one pays attention to what newspaper delivery boys think anymore. Just take a look at the frequent contributors from the public to this blog, all cellar dwelling shut-ins, with nothing to do all day but make lunatic postings, and compliment each other about how clever each of them are. They are all Obama voters because they want to keep the welfare check coming, the unemployment check coming, or the SSDI check coming.

The end is near, our national nightmare is almost over. We can begin to feel good about the direction of our country again! We can see right over the horizon, the day when the ACJ is finally an on line rag
only, and then fades to black. Instead of a printed and online nothing. What are the cellar rats to do then?

Redneck/Kamchak 2016

Well, I learned a good lesson from this election. Next time I run for President I’ll put it to work.

To get the Republican nomination I plan to call myself the most Conservative Republican in the world. I’ll tell ‘em I’ll cut out all the welfare. I’ll create about 16 million new jobs thru my magic long johns. Everybody will get a tax cut and we’ll balance the budget and pay off the debt thru making that worthless 47% pay more taxes and go to work. We’ll hire a big police force to make sure every woman has the baby she got, and then we’ll call the women welfare sl-ts and cut them off without a dime. I’ll even say we’re going to create a federal agency to protect the rights of rapists that father children.

Then when I run for President as the Republican nominee I plan on shifting gears so fast it’ll strip every transmission ever built. I’ll talk about how we’re not going to cut anybody’s welfare and we won’t send guvmint checks to more than, oh, about 50 million more people. I’ll talk about what a nice guy I am and how you can trust me to do just what you want if you’ll only elect me. I’ll talk about a woman’s Right to Choose and all that stuff. Whatever your mind thinks I ought to do, I’ll do. I won’t tell you boo-cr-p about what I’m really going to do till you elect me.

Trust me, I’m going to be your President in 2016. But I might need to cross my fingers behind my back about having Kamchak as my VP. I wouldn’t trust him any more than I could throw one of those NC mountains down into a valley. I’m beginning to expect he’s a librul.

How fast can Romney adopt Obama’s positions on every important issue? He’s running as fast has his little legs will carry him to the center and away from the right wing nutcase ideas of his party’s platform. Don’t let that fool you. He is his party’s candidate and, if elected, people like Paul “the earth is 9000 years old” Broun and Todd “the woman wasn’t legitimately raped” Akin will be in charge. This is classic Karl Rove politics, attack your opponents greatest strength. Romney was challenged with working class white voters in Ohio due to the auto bailout and even after Denver was struggling to pull even. He felt more of the same was not going to work in the final days so this is a Hail Mary.

It reminds me of the tactic Rove used to great success when he saw his conflict avoiding President up against a Purple Heart winning volunteer. Before we knew it, Kerry was less honorable than a guy who made sure he was trained on a plane absent from the Vietnam theater. The results were to rally his base and confuse enough others to neutralize the weakness.

http://www.freep.com/article/20121030/BUSINESS01/121030036/1205/business01/Romney-implies-GM-used-U-S-aid-create-jobs-China

Republican presidential candidate Mitt Romney has broadened his attack on President Barack Obama’s auto industry restructuring, implying that General Motors used the aid to hire more workers in China than in the U.S.

“Barack Obama says he saved the auto industry. But for who? Ohio or China?” says the narrator in a radio spot running in Ohio. “Under President Obama, GM cut 15,000 American jobs, but they are planning to double the number of cars built in China, which means 15,000 more jobs for China. And now comes word that Chrysler plans to start making Jeeps in, you guessed it, China.”

GM quickly defended its performance.

“We’ve clearly entered some parallel universe during these last few days,” GM spokesman Greg Martin said. “No amount of campaign politics at its cynical worst will diminish our record of creating jobs in the U.S. and repatriating profits back to this country.”

First, Chrysler had to set the record straight, and now GM does the same. I thought Romney was supposed to be the business leader, but it seems like he’s the business anger generator.

If people are being laid off right and left, then why is the unemployment rate SLOWLY decreasing?

If there are more people on assistance than ever before, how does that factor with there being more people than ever before?

Yes, food and gas are getting costlier…and in both cases it is largely the result of the oil companies reaping record profits…

Blaming Obama for this is about as absurd as thinking Romney can do anything about it…

Doug — “Sorry Joe you sound like good guy but I can’t vote for Obama again.”

You do what you have to do, Doug, but I’m going to leave you with this.

I spent over 20 years of my adult life voting for Republicans. I even enlisted in the Army during the Reagan Administration. But I left the GOP behind in late 2003/early 2004. I’d had enough of the ‘don’t question us’ attitude from party leaders and ‘our way is the only way that works’ argument when the GOP’s economic policies clearly weren’t working. And the straw that broke the camel’s back for me was Iraq. I’d been in uniform during the first dance with Saddam Hussein, and even though I didn’t like that President Bush (the elder) stopped short of Baghdad, I respected him for doing the right thing and stopping when the Iraqi government said ‘we give.’

And when we went back into Iraq. saying ‘we know where the WMD are’ but they didn’t start falling out of warehouses and trucks within about a day, I knew we’d been lied to by President Bush (the younger).

I might go back to the GOP one day. But I don’t see it happening anytime soon. So ask yourself this: if the GOP can disillusion and run off a gun-owning disabled veteran who was raised up in the South and who comes from good hillbilly stock — then do you think it matters to them whether you stick with them or not?

I volunteered for the GOP for several years. And in the end, they just didn’t care if I stuck with them or not. All they care about it power, and the GOP leaders today will say and do anything to get and keep it.

So you go ahead and hang with them if you think it’s the right thing to do. But bear in mind that I spent many years supporting them, volunteering for them and voting for them — but in the final analysis, they don’t really care what *you* as a voter want. It’s all about what *they* want.

Here we go. I’m always in search for the “man behind the curtain” so to speak. With the vigor that’s being shown behind this whole auto bailout/Jeep/Chrysler/Fiat issue, it seems quite possible that there’s big money somewhere pulling the strings on this one..

Per Wiki:

In 2007, Cerberus and about 100 other investors purchased an 80% stake in Chrysler for $7.4 billion[35] seeking to bolster the auto maker’s performance by operating as an independent company. In 2008, the plan collapsed due to an unprecedented slowdown in the U.S. auto industry and a lack of capital…

On March 30, 2009, it was announced that Cerberus Capital Management would voluntarily give up its equity stake in the Chrysler auto company as a condition of the U.S. Treasury Department’s bailout deal, but would retain its stake in Chrysler’s financing arm, Chrysler Financial. Cerberus agreed to provide $2 billion to backstop a $4 billion December 2008 U.S. Treasury Department loan given to Chrysler. In exchange for obtaining that loan, it promised many concessions including surrendering equity, foregoing profits, and giving up board seats. U.S. Treasury and the Obama administration recognized the “sacrifices by key stakeholders” in an effort to give Chrysler the “opportunity to thrive as a long-term viable 21st century company.”

When you look at who founded Cerberus, one of the co-founders is Steve Feinberg. A peek at his wiki page shows:

The 2007 Cerberus purchase of Chrysler Corp. from Germany’s Daimler Benz became a major and, as of 2009, unsuccessful initiative by Feinberg into a higher-profile investment. Feinberg and others at the firm explicitly presented the investment as patriotic, but many critics ultimately questioned that characterization, especially after Chrysler had to seek and take federal aid. (Chrysler now, with federal help, has been sold to Fiat.) As of 2009, Cerberus was facing major calls from its investors for redemptions, and had written down its investment in Chrysler to 19 cents on the dollar. Had there not been the federal bailout, the investment could have been worth nothing.

Without the bailout, they would have drawn a fat goose egg. But, in order to get the bailout, they had to forego profits, and you know how private equity is all about profits. Not to mention that Mr. Feinberg’s politics lean right…

Steve and Gisela Feinberg are prolific donors to the Republican Party and related organizations. Former Republican Vice President of the United States Dan Quayle works for Cerberus as Chairman of Global Investments, and former United States Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld was a client.

I’m sure there are many deep-pocketed people angry at the loss of profits from the Chrysler bailout. I’m not going to say they are behind this whole fiasco, but given how big money operates, it wouldn’t surprise me at all if they were.

Simey lyin Mitt is definitely not Presidential. Politicizing a storm relief benefit:

The event itself was billed as a “storm relief” benefit, and the Romney campaign asked supporters to bring with them food and other goods to donate to victims of the storm. But soon, reporters poked holes in the campaign’s explanation for staging the rally. First, the relief event was scheduled for the same time and location as a recently canceled political rally. Then, photos emerged, showing that donors were asked to wait to drop off their goods until Romney arrived to accept them himself, suggesting a photo op not unlike the one his running mate Paul Ryan staged earlier this month in a soup kitchen. And Salon noticed that the targeted recipient of all of the donations — the Red Cross — doesn’t even accept most of what the Romney campaign collected in Ohio.

But just in case there were any lingering questions over the political nature of the relief rally, Romney’s staff left no room for doubt when they aired a biographical video that was part of the Republican National Convention in August (and used by the campaign at political events since).

Even Stuart Stevens, a Romney aide and longtime GOP strategist, admitted that the campaign engaged in politicking at the Ohio event during an interview with NPR political correspondent Ari Shapiro

The man is not fit to lead this country.

“Republican Presidential candidate Mitt Romney has begun running ads in Ohio, stating Chrysler planned to move Jeep production to China.”

“It demonstrates a fundamental lack of respect for those to whom the truth about such matters is critically important.”
===================================================

Romney’s ease with telling a lie as reality in this specific incidence is indicative of the fact that he has probably lived out many lies throughout his life and will continue to do. That says not only that he is comfortable living a surface reality but that political appearance is more important to him than is truth. When he engages in that falseness, he shows lack of respect for all Americans, as well as for himself. I only hope that Americans will see deeply enought into what this means. I do not want Gov. Romney to be representative of what America is either to America’s young, who are our future, or to the world.

Don;t know why leftists would criticize Romney for quoting the mainstream media:

Bloomberg:

To counter the severe slump in European sales, Marchionne is considering building Chrysler models in Italy, including Jeeps, for export to North America. The Italian government is evaluating tax rebates on export goods to help Fiat. Marchionne may announce details of his plan as soon as Oct. 30, the people said.

“This makes sense on multiple levels” as it will boost plant utilization and would cap “Chrysler’s own potential, limiting the likely cost to Fiat shareholders of buying out the Chrysler minorities,” Stuart Pearson, an analyst at Morgan Stanley in London, said in a note to investors today.

http://www.businessweek.com/news/2012-10-28/marchionne-seen-missing-fiat-sales-target-by-19-billion#p1

As Marchionne owns Fiat and most of Chrysler/Jeep, I am not certain I would bet the house on Jeep-manufacture staying in the US. And Mr. Romney said nothing untrue; Obama did use taxpayer funds to put Chrysler into foreign hands.

Chrysler managerment clearly stated that the company is expanding the SALE of chrysler vehicles to china, not moving factory production to China… Question; When Japanese auto makers begin building vehicles in America, did they close down factories in Japan and move them to the USA or did they expand production to include USA ???

Brosephus™

What exactly do you call that if in fact Jeep isn’t moving that production to China?

Not that the question was posed to me, but I’d call that a business move to increase profitability. As it stands now, those 33k vehicle sales come with major tariffs because of China’s trade laws. Manufacturing the vehicles there helps Chrysler/Jeep avoid cutting into their profitability to tap into that market. As other major manufacturers already have facilities in China, C/J is playing catch up to try to get back on equal footing with everyone else.

The downside is, of course, the jobs created there are not jobs created in America. It could be viewed as C/J giving the finger to American workers. It could also be viewed as a shrewd business move to continue to increase profitability and stay in business, saving the current and expanding American jobs. It just depends on how you choose to look at it.

Michael Tomasky on Mitt Romney’s Closing Con Game

Mitt Romney’s latest political ad makes it clear that he’s trying to portray himself as a uniter who will heal the divisions of the Obama years. Don’t believe it for a second.
So one of Mitt Romney’s closing plays is that he’s the great conciliator. He released an ad several days ago and has been hitting the theme ever since, arguing that we need (as Romney said in the first debate, quoted in the ad) “leadership that … could not care less if it’s a Republican or a Democrat” that said leader is working with. With this, Romney makes the full leap into Orwell-land, but with signs that some folks actually buy or at the very least want very much to believe this, it’s important to point out to those voters the precise nature of this con game.

No RB, Chrysler is expanding US production. So if they build 1 million Jeeps in the US and export 33k to China now, and they build 1.2 million next year in the US and 50k in China, its NOT moving production. It’s a “expansion” of production. Here is what the top executive of Jeep said in his closing lines of The Detroit News article, above:

“Jeep assembly lines will remain in operation in the United States and will constitute the backbone of the brand. It is inaccurate to suggest anything different.”
——————————————————————–

The link was also made available, below, to that full article, I believe, when I cut and pasted the quote above.

The way that I understand the executive’s words, and also from what I have heard in the media about this, JEEP simply has now a growing world market for its vehicle. Just as corporations such as Starbucks or McDonalds start locally and, if successful, expand nationally, and then internationally, so JEEP is simply expanding its market globally because of demand throughout the globe. Part of that demand is for JEEP vehicles by customers in China, so that some of the JEEP vehicles will be made locally in China in order to supply the demand for them there.

However, that is quite different from what Mitt Romney wished to communicate to a fearful American audience. What he wanted to communicate was that JEEP was outsourcing American jobs to China and costing American workers their livelihood, as a result. He knew exactly what he was doing and how misleading he was being because he simply wants to win Ohio’s electoral votes, even if he had to lie to do it. His statement was quite ironic, as well as false, because Bain, his company, actually did outsource American jobs to foreign nations for profit purposes, costing American workers their livelihood when Bain closed down the American plant with workers here made to train the Chinese workers for the jobs the Chinese were taking away from them. Unconscienable.
——————————————-

TO BROSEPHUS: I want you to know how much I appreciated your confirmation of who I am – of a day or so ago. Your words were few, but impacting for anyone who caught them, as I did. Thank you very much.

“Chrysler said that they’re”expanding” their business to include selling cars in China…” They’ve already sold 33K vehicles in China YTD, ODD. They aren’t just starting up a plant in China to sell vehicle number 1 and grow from there. Those vehicles are currently made here and will be made there when their plants are ready. How is that not MOVING production?

New Jersey Governor Chris Christie, who has blasted President Obama’s leadership, heaped praise on Obama on Tuesday for his handling of Hurricane Sandy.

“The president has been outstanding in this and so have the folks at FEMA,” Christie said on NBC’s “Today” show.

Christie, whose state is among the hardest hit by the storm, made appearances on several morning talk shows on Tuesday and applauded Obama at each stop.

On MSNBC’s “Morning Joe,” Christie said “the president has been all over this, and he deserves great credit. He gave me his number at the White House and told me to call him if I needed anything and he absolutely means it, and it’s been very good working with the president and his administration.”

On CNN’s “Starting Point with Soledad O’Brien,” Christie added that Obama “has been incredibly supportive and helpful to our state, and not once did he bring up the election.”

Saving GM may have gotten Obama a second term, in the process he destroyed the stockholders(get this you welfare recepients-the OWNERS) and the bond holders, sounds fair , huh. The Union came out ok. There can be NO doubt that saving jobs was good, but at what expense ….
Well anyway, more fun for Jay and the extremeist view from the left,by the way if Christie is right then good for EVERYBODY,as I have said,I have been thru a hurricane-it ain’t fun and all the help you can get is appreciated.
For Jay:”TRUTH’, of course there is no absolute truth except for a few laws in physics and any one who projects knowing or being able to recognize the all encompassing political “truth” is a narcicist and has no place in rational discussion. Amazongurl(how comforting), we know where Obama stands and we DON’T like it.

It is telling that Jay threatens to ban those based on personal insults when they don’t align with his politics. That is a typical liberal for you, tolerant as long as you agree with me. I’ve been insulted personally on this blog many times but I would never expect those who insult me to be banned. I would rather know someone’s true sentiments. On the topic, this is simply more deflection from serious issues though not unexpected from Bookman. Jay, do you think Obama’s cover up of the Benghazi situation is appropriate? Even if he wins re-election, this cover up will likely doom his second term. The media will have to cover it at some point.

It is telling that Jay threatens to ban those based on personal insults when they don’t align with his politics.

As opposed to threatened bans of those whose politics DO align with Jay’s? As in when Jay told me a few months ago, “one more post like that and you’re out of here?”

This ongoing charge of bias against conservative posters is provably false, but that won’t keep people from making it over and over and over again.

Headin’ upstairs for chilly plea SHEETZ.

A Chrysler official indicated that they were looking to move production to China. This was not just a Romney claim: “Mike Manley, chief operating officer of Fiat and Chrysler in Asia and president of the Jeep brand, told Bloomberg, ‘We’re reviewing the opportunities within existing capacity’ as well as ’should we be localizing the entire Jeep portfolio or some of the Jeep portfolio’ to China.”

And, Fiat’s CEO released a plan that included possibly building some Jeeps in Italy. Again, not a Romney claim. “Fiat Chief Executive Officer Sergio Marchionne presented a plan yesterday to turn around the European operations…The CEO intends to introduce 19 new models through 2016 that will be produced in Italy, including a small Jeep SUV, 9 Alfa Romeos and 6 Maseratis.”

Morning…here’s additional fodder relative to Silver…as I said, he’s a damn genious but there are many reasons not to put anymore credence into his odds/projections than the other polls…

I hope his projections are correct or at least in some fashion mirror his 2008 (and only) prior record…

Ok, cons. I’m paitently waiting for you to tell those folks who were trashed by Sandy to man up, and don’t ask the Govt. for any help. After all, we just don’t have the money and they should lift themselves up by their own bootstraps.

Appears that the regressives were active last night. Probably filled with Jay’s Kool-Aid about Romney’s supposed lie about Chrysler. Of course Romney was accurate in what he said but that doesn’t stop the desperate regressives. Hopefully, next week will see the beginning of the end for the worst president in American history.

Exactly! I donate $1,000. As a hurricane victim, would you rather get a $960 check from the Red Cross or a $320 check from the government?

Indigo wants $320 and can’t figure out where the problem is. I cringe every time the president says they are sending money to help people.

There is no defending Romney on his Jeep commentary despite his declaration that it was Rueters or some other agency…won’t matter regardless..he’s built a mountain of BS to be clear…but to be fair, both have contributed in significant fashion….can’t take the politician out of the man..

People have generally decided and don’t listen to any counters to (Jeep BS or Romney shipping jobs to China BS) the BS spewed by both sides..

As Romney gets more and more desperate, the lies told in his ads get bigger and bigger. Of course, when his campaign gets called on them, it’s just a “misunderstanding.” Romney’s plan for creating 12 million jobs? Uh, cut taxes on those making $1Million/year? Creates more butler jobs, I guess.

Geez people, when Romney made these statements, it was fact. Prominent (important or well-known for you people ITP) newspapers (NOT AJC) and fact checkers have confirmed it. This person in DC is dragging this county to the sewers and you are worried about what Romney said about a car. Wow, really got your priorities in place huh? Worried you are going to lose your free phones and healthcare I suppose.

It is simple. The CEO of FIAT in Italy said Fiat is moving not only JEEP but some parts of CHRYSLER as well to China and or Italy. Romney merely repeated what the FIAT corporation announced they are going to do. The dishonsty here is those who ignore FIAT’s public annoucement and selectively report a more palatable story for OBAMA.

This year I was considering buying a Range Rover Evoque, but the new Jeeps are really amazing and I don’t know what lured me towards the Jeep dealership besides being sick of the hoity-toity attitude of the Land Rover sales people who make $30,000.00 a year at best. Being a Land Rover owner and shelling over $2,000.00 in repairs this year alone confirmed my decision to check out Jeep was the right one. Under Fiat, Jeep alone has made a wonderful transformation. Dodge has the really capable and impressive Dodge Dart II and the new Viper is mind blowing. Sergio is a man of vision and unlike Romney, he passionately cares about Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, Fiat, Maserati, Ferrari, Alfa Romeo, etc. Under American leadership, Chrysler was going down the tubes and now its a remarkable success!

That Etch-A-Sketch planned by his advisors is something else. He sat there and told us that the Mitt camp had some doozies planned for the future. Mitt is unabashedly lying and saying whatever it takes to win. I’m scared of this guy. NO way I’d ever vote for a politician that would lie this much. All pols lie but not to this level.
