Right-wing hysteria over Benghazi feeds upon itself

Fox New anchors, right-wing websites and talk-radio hosts around the country are ginning up a wave of mass hysteria about the decision by the Obama administration not to attempt a military rescue of Ambassador Chris Stevens in Libya. (Glenn Beck is even telling listeners that the treason is more widespread, and that Stevens was acting as a gunrunner for al Qaida in Libya and Syria. I kid you not.)

Obama’s crime is said to be so heinous that mere impeachment for refusing to intervene would be insufficient. If you Google the words “Benghazi” and “traitor,” you get some 518,000 hits, almost all of which cast President Obama as that traitor. The criticism extends as well to the mainstream media, which as my email informs me, is being accused of covering up a scandal of such dimensions that it would supposedly dwarf Watergate.

But I have a question.

According to NBC News, Mitt Romney hasn’t mentioned Libya in his campaign appearances around the country since Oct. 12, which is more than two weeks ago. Now why do you think that is?

Option one: Mitt has joined the mainstream media as part of the pro-Obama conspiracy of silence to protect the president.

Option two. Romney’s military and foreign affairs advisers have told him that not even a minimally responsible case can be made that Obama should have intervened militarily at Benghazi, and that Romney would deeply embarrass himself by suggesting such a step.

Let’s be clear: There is no indication — none — that U.S military officials advised the president or anyone in the administration that a rescue operation was possible, and that the administration ignored that offer. The evidence is entirely to the contrary.

As Defense Secretary Leon Panetta explained, “(The) basic principle is that you don’t deploy forces into harm’s way without knowing what’s going on; without having some real-time information about what’s taking place. And as a result of not having that kind of information, the commander who was on the ground in that area, Gen. Ham, Gen. Dempsey and I felt very strongly that we could not put forces at risk in that situation.”

That would be Gen. Carter Ham, the head of U.S. Africa Command, and Gen. Martin Dempsey, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. They are men of training and experience; they know where our military assets are located; they know their capabilities, and they know the difficulties involved in inserting and extracting an armed force into an uncertain situation in another country.

It is of course frustrating and heartbreaking to learn that CIA officers stationed near the Benghazi consulate had asked three times for military assistance and that those requests had been denied. But that is real life. This is not a Hollywood movie.

Here’s how Fox News reported the news above:

The most provocative piece of that report is the claim that a Special Forces team stationed at an air base in Signonella, Italy, two hours from Benghazi, was ready to intervene but orders were never given. But here’s how such mass hysteria gets fed by partial information, in both senses of the word “partial”. As it turned out, the Special Forces team in question was not based in Sigonella but had to be assembled and transported there from elsewhere in Europe.

“U.S. officials say (the team) did not arrive in Sicily until after the attack was over,” CBS reports. “Even if the team had been ready in time, confusion about what was happening on the ground in Benghazi — and State Department concerns about violating Libyan sovereignty — made a military rescue mission impractical, the officials say.”

Arguing against mass and willful hysteria using facts, logic and expert professional opinion is a losing battle, of course. It doesn’t matter that our top military people believed a rescue effort would be impractical and would probably end in the loss of even more American lives. What matters is that talk-show hosts and others can stir up millions of Americans raised on Rambo movies to believe that their leaders could have helped to rescue a well-respected U.S. diplomat and his team, but simply decided it wasn’t worth the effort. Because the president is a traitor.

That makes no sense. It is such a ridiculous notion that in most eras it would never even be broached in public debate. But this is an era in which many are predisposed to believe the most ridiculous things if it justifies their hatred of Obama, and a time in which when emotions are heightened by a hard-fought presidential campaign. So nonsense reigns.

2) We can’t get a straight answer from the POTUS ? But all he did was run around and brag about Osama Bin Laden.
3) He sent out all his stupid political hacks to blame the deaths on some youtube film nobody including the Libyans had even seen?
4) Hilary Clinton then tries to deflect attention away from the POTUS by taking the blame.
5) When the bodies are brought home she even tells the victims family we’re going to get the person that made the video?
6) The person that made the film is paraded in front of the camera for charges unrelated to the video. This film of him being arrested is played in many countries. To supposedly show Obama’s strenghth?
7) American media ignores the story even though our Ambassador is murdered. First time in over 30 years. To protect a political figure.
8) Our president refuses to admit who is resposible even though he knows who it is. And refuses to answer questions or let the American public know the truth.

There was no protest per the Stevens.

The gun ship could have easily been over target in time to help!

There were three request for permission to help and each time they were told to stand down.

There are men dead and all you and the rest of the mindless Obama cultist can do is cover his a$$. This is shameful. There should be away to hold propagandist like you culpable for what Obama has done to this country will you all turn a blind eye.

If he was fired, he most certainly would not be retained as Commander, U.S. Africa Command, pending confirmation of his replacement. That is not the practice of the Department of Defense—see Secretary Gates’ firing of the commander of forces in Afghanistan, a firing that took effect immediately.

“What will happen in the streets should Obama lose the election as it appears he very well may?”

I still think Obama wins but the latest poll I saw today had them tied at 49 each in Ohio. Obama has to have Ohio. He can’t win without it. But if he is only tied at 49 in the polls in Ohio than Romney wins. Greater voter enthusiasm and the fact that undecideds typically break 2-1 for the challenger means its over if that poll is accurate and it holds.

ragnar danneskjold

October 29th, 2012

Silly essay, premised on typically faulty-leftist logic. While Obamaniacs, including the head maniac, have no reservations about throwing mud, Mr. Romney does not need to do so – res ipsa loquitur. For the woefully uninformed, i.e., most leftists, there are three “Benghazi” scandals.

(1) Failure to protect the human assets. As accurately described, the allegation of willful inactivity by the administration during the terrorist attacks. There are two sets of military thinking, one accurately described by our host. The second set, which is prevalent among 80% of the military, is that you get a team there. The administration has been coy about whether there was at least one surveillance drone at the site showing the fight in real time; such drones are not deployed on a moment’s notice, and not without a purpose. The implicit suggestion that such a drone was there by coincidence is more than even a leftist koolaid drinker than absorb.

(2) YouTube lies. More significantly, the administration knew before the end of the firefight, or should have known, that the Benghazi attack was different from the “uprisings” throughout the middle east. (By the way, is everyone here aware that the 9/11/12 Yemen attacks had the indicia of planning found in Benghazi?) I posted on the Bookman blog that next day that the attacks were “different” form those in Egypt and elsewhere. The YouTube story – that a video with 1000 hits from three months earlier – was preposterous from day one. Anyone with half a brain would know that thousands of Egyptians chanting “we are all bin Ladens” probably were reacting to something other than a video they had never seen. The rational mind allows for the possibility that the inflammation was the democrat convention one week earlier, where democrat after democrat crowed about the death of bin Laden. Maybe, just maybe, on 9/11 crazed Islamists inflamed by indecorous democrat behavior, decided to protest.

I do not allege that Benghazi was part of that motivation. The extent of planning in Benghazi and Yemen shows that those actions had been in the works for an extended period, probably since the death of bin Laden.

The president was unable to tell Americans the truth because (1) voters would not reward him for democrats spiking the football in a way that got a career Ambassador killed (which was a likely, if wrong perception); (2) every campaign stop before Benghazi featured the claim that al Qaeda had been decimated, and Benghazi and Yemen disprove the claim persuasively.

(3) The Failure of the “Apology Tour.” The riots throughout all of Arabia – notably excepting Iraq – prove the failure of the president’s foreign policy initiative, which we conservatives derisively call “the apology tour.” Far from creating a basis for dialogue, the president has projected weakness to the world, and the weak leader is rarely rewarded in the Middle East culture. Obama is not loved there, and neither is the US. There were no such riots in Arabia when the despised Bush fil landed American troops in Iraq, to dispatch a tyrant. Feckless policy from a feckless administration is the cause of “right wing hysteria.” Leftists elect to not wake up and smell the coffee (Arabica, I think.)

Ty Wood’s father and siblings were just on FNC Hannity. If portions of that interview get any airing at all not only will the “Empty Chair” be toast. He or who ever made the bone head decision to order the stand-down will be pilloried first by congress and then by the courts. What Mr. Woods said and how he said it was powerfully moving and emotional. Any American mother who sees it will be our for revenge against Obama and his America hating regime.

It ain’t a fair fight getting out the truth in today’s media. A small faction of Right wing truth speakers vs thousands of media types that wish to change the country through a puppet president. The libs do have the upper hand attracting the stupid people…And putting words into childrens mouths and calling it a political ad. Nauseating stuff. Imagine if the Right pulled a lowlife stunt like that..! ‘Course they ain’t that low and dumb.

Recon,

We’ll see. Its not the end of the world either way and I’m on record as kinda wanting Obama to win. I figure if he had another 4 years that he would continue to ruin the country to a point that the results would be so bad that even libs would acknowledge the failure of liberal policies and that we wouldn’t have any more of this liberal kookery for another 20 years after that.

+++++++++++++++

Yeah and anyone who’s not a far right wing fanatical rush limbaugh butt licking, Koolaid drinking, druggie worshipping neophyte is a “librul” right?

I’ve dealt with Ambassadors before. You can TELL them not to do something stupid, but you’re just a dumb ass, hairy backed, slope headed, Neanderthal. If you were smart like him you would have gone to George Washington U not SWS. Sometimes they pay for their stupidity. Sometimes OTHERS pay for their stupidity as well. He should have never left Tripoli.

And THAT makes me a “librul”? Well bite my “librul” ass then if that’s the case. The REAL problem is you asshats MAKING this a “political” issue rather than a strategic issue. But then you lack the brains to think strategically, a fact the talk radio/Fox news crowd depend on.

You comparing the father of a fallen HERO to Cindy Sheehan? I think you can look in the mirror and see the definition of an “asshat”.

Really asshat? Why? Cindy Sheehan was the MOTHER OF A FALLEN HERO. So what? Both are whiners and NEITHER has the courage and honor of their sons.

A truly comic line from the administration: “State Department concerns about violating Libyan sovereignty” As if destruction of an American consulate has anything to do with “Libyan sovereignty.” That is the definition of “leading from behind,” the same place they pull out their explanations.

BEST QUOTE OF THE DECADE- from CZECH REPUBLIC OBSERVER……”The danger to America is not Barack Obama but a citizenry capable of entrusting an inexperienced man like him with the Presidency. It will be far easier to limit and undo the follies of an Obama Presidency than to restore the necessary common sense and good judgment to a depraved electorate willing to have such a man for their President. The problem is much deeper and far more serious than Mr. Obama, who is a mere symptom of what ails America. Blaming the prince of the fools should not blind anyone to the vast confederacy of fools that made him their prince. The Republic can survive a Barack Obama. It is less likely to survive a multitude of fools such as those who made him their President.”

option 3 Romney isn’t saying anything because a public that is not informed by the news media might view any comments made by him to be dirty politics. i don’t think its right wing hysteria. if obama was a republican the mainstream media would be all over this. they might have even covered if not for the election, but with the presidency up for grabs, they can’t risk informing the voters of what a terrible excuse for a leader Barack Hussein Obama really is.

Why? Sounds to me like he’s a whiny little girl. Tell me the difference between this asshat and Cindy Sheehan

If you are referencing Charles Woods, then, you have confirmed to me that you are absolutely devoid of the ability to humanly reason. If you have listened to this man and his family (quite frankly he is much more composed than I could ever expect to be) and come away with a nickname of “asshat” then you are hopeless. This man has experienced one of the most devastating losses that a father can have and he has the right to express his beliefs, concerns and emotions. Afterall, his son dedicated his life to protecting that right. You owe your ability to come on here and maliciously defame a man you’ve never met in your life to good men like his dead son. He has a very real suspicion that his son was betrayed both in life and continues to be betrayed after his death. For you or anyone to call him an “asshat” is about as reprehensible a reaction as I can imagine.

Please spare me the “Cindy Sheehan” comparison. She has the same rights to react the way she does.
