The Lena Dunham ad that filled countless fainting couches

fainting_couch-300x204

Apparently, the ad below has caused Republicans to triple their usual order for fainting couches. Kelly Fenton, deputy chair of the Minnesota Republican Party, tweeted yesterday that Satan must now be serving as Obama’s campaign adviser. The always reliable Erick Erickson of RedState.com preached that it’s evidence “we live in a fallen world destined for hellfire.”

That noted defender of American womanhood and feminine virtue, Rush Limbaugh, even denounced the ad as “an insult to women everywhere.” There is no truth to the rumor that he and his pals then boarded a plane bound for the Dominican Republic, copious supplies of Viagra in their baggage. Or maybe there is, I wouldn’t want to speculate.

Anyway, here’s the ad:

The ad won’t appear on mainstream TV, and probably not on TV anywhere at all. It is designed to be shared, on Facebook and elsewhere, by those for whom it is a target audience and who, given the comments of leading Republicans such as Richard Mourdock of Indiana and Todd Akin of Missouri, might have a lot at stake in this election. It was posted on Youtube yesterday, and already has more than a million views.

As for those outraged by the decline of today’s young people well, we’ve been down this road many many times before, now haven’t we?

————–

“Edgar! Edgar! Get in here and see what’s happening on the Sullivan show! It’s that Presley boy and he’s … ohmygoodness! … Did you see what he did with his … his hips? They let them do that on the television? My gracious! Did you see that Edgar!”

“It’s shocking, Maude, I do declare this country is destined for ….”

“Hush Edgar!! Hush! Get away from the TV, you old man, I think he’s gonna do it again!!

I think Johnson will pull votes, but he won’t be a factor in solid red states. He may be a thorn in Romney’s side in battleground states.

It will take a significant shift in ideology to turn Georgia blue again, and I doubt we will see such an event in our lifetime. The South has always been conservative when compared to the country as a whole. With the ever increasing polarization of the political parties, I can’t see Democrat winning the popular vote in a Southern state unless they run a center right candidate.

Last ice storm here in Atlanta, I tossed about 300 lb’s of sand across my rear axle popped the trannie into 4 wheel drive and delivered some meals on wheels cause other folks couldn’t get out to drive.

On about my 10th trip on one hill some jack ass was out there “directing” traffic trying to tell me where to go. I almost ran over his stupid ass as he comes running out in front of my truck. Luckily he stopped before he got right in front because I sure as hell wasn’t going to jam on my brakes on the ice, I would let the friction from his body on the road help slow me down lol. If he wants to commit suicide I’m not going to hurt myself trying to stop him.

Couple terrific fun facts from George Will today:

“In 1960,” Eberstadt says, “roughly 134 Americans were engaged in gainful employment for every officially disabled worker; by December 2010 there were just over 16.”

“The growth of entitlement spending over the past half-century has been distinctly greater under Republican administrations than Democratic ones. Between 1960 and 2010, the growth of entitlement spending was exponential — but in any given year, it was on the whole over 8 percent higher if the president happened to be a Republican rather than a Democrat. . . . The Richard Nixon, Gerald Ford and George W. Bush administrations presided over especially lavish expansions of the entitlement state.”

There’s perception….then there is reality..

1) He banged his employer’s daughter and came back home to his suburban DC home to find all of his belongings on the lawn with a sign from his wife that said, “Take it elsewhere buster.”

The right zeroes in like a heat searching missile to anything that may give a woman control of her body or her life yet complain about government interference on about every topic, such as feeding the poor, gay marriage, regulation of Wall Street and illegal immigrates. I think it is a total distraction from what they are really up to. They can’t handle hurricane emergencies or wars, or the economy, but when it comes to religion’s nose in your business they have the tools to make that happen. And to make it even more clear the religion they have called a cult for over 100 years they now give them license to be part of their control panel, no longer crack pots, card carrying Christian as voted by us, we just misunderstood them before, or maybe the right is moving more to the crackpot side and the right wing Christians are the ones joining the cults, just now declaring themselves crackpots after 100 years of being mainstream.

My feeling is that the timing of service and the issues of that particular time, are what a legacy should suggest..We certainly see the GOP pointing to Carter et al…but this pales in comparison to the obligatory Bush comparisions to BO…governing over 9/11 which many want to forget was the worst attack on our shores since they became our shores…in retrospect he made many mistakes for various reasons…but compare those times to that of BO, Reagan, Carter whomever is weak cheese in most cases…IMO

My feeling is that the timing of service and the issues of that particular time, are what a legacy should suggest..

And that is a very subjective method to gauge someone’s legacy. For example, 9/11 was tragic because of the loss of innocent life, but 12/7/41 ended with a great deal of our Pacific Fleet underwater. It’s all in perspectives, and that is why I don’t engage in “grading” presidents. I don’t think there is any accurate measure to compare them to each other because of unique issues they have all confronted. Instead, why not measure them according to how they respond to their individual issues?

Here’s another comment in same piece:

One reason work now is neither a duty nor a necessity is the gaming — defrauding, really — of disability entitlements. In 1960, an average of 455,000 workers were receiving disability payments; in 2011, 8.6 million were — more than four times the number of persons receiving basic welfare benefits under Temporary Assistance for Needy Families. Nearly half of the 8.6 million were “disabled” because of “mood disorders” or ailments of the “musculoskeletal system and the connective tissue.” It is, says Eberstadt, essentially impossible to disprove a person’s claim to be suffering from sad feelings or back pain.

All I’m saying is when it’s all said and done, there are a lot of heads that could roll. Again, noone answers my question though: How, when the general on the ground in charge of forces in the region doesn’t have enough information to respond quickly, is the WH supposed to suddenly know? You guys used to talk a lot about trusting the generals over there to advise, so now not so much? If that’s true, then Reagan shoulda known that truck full of explosives was heading for the barbed wire, shouldn’t he? The WH depends on the intel from the CIA and the commanders in the region. As I said, subjective…

I, for example, don’t think Bush played his hand poorly on 9/11. I think he was goaded into reaching for other things in the name of 9/11. The initial reaction to 9/11 was to go to Afghanistan and get those who attacked us, which he initially did. Only later, was his attention diverted to Iraq.

Obama got dealt a sh*t sandwich, and not a bad hand. It’s one thing to get handed a recession, it’s something entirely different to get handed a recession with credit frozen and a potential collapse of our entire banking system. I humorously liken his presidency to Morgan Freeman in “Deep Impact” in that, when the Black man finally gets into the White House, the entire world is damn near destroyed.

In all seriousness though, I think it is far too early to accurately measure the impact of either one of them.

Perhaps you should read the link. First of all it was a shadowing incident that all of our military forces to from all nations when you eter or are about to enter their airspace. Secondly, the incident happened in disputed territory. Thirdly you fail to mention that a Chinese pilot was killed in the incident so of course they are going to be upset. Fourthly the landing of the U.S. aircraft was an “emergency” landing according to the wiki link due to the midair collision. Fifthly as the article points out both nations were able to avoid a more serious conflict and save face. We had warnings that was going to happen? Stevens had asked for security so we know they had warnings. When people in the area asked to ingage they were told not to.

obama and the administration didn’t want to start anything because it would go against their “we got OBL and now the world is safe” agenda. We had people and assetts in the area. (not to mention they should have been on alert since it was 9/11 and we had been warned of attacks).

They knew what was going on, while it was happening, did nothing to help, then decided to cover it up. Please show me where Reagan and Bush tried to cover up incedents that happened during their watch.

Fred: SWEEEEEET!! You’ll have to take some of us up for a little spin. I’m actually thinking about selling everything and getting into some hedge funds. If Romney wins and rolls back regulations, it’ll be a big party for the 1%ers….for a while anyway. I hear ol’ Mitt can give some good advice on offshore accounts and “blind” trusts.

JKL2: I’ll try, ONE more time, to point out to you that the Republicans in the House nixed any increase in funding for embassy security and cut $300 million from it. Surely you can do some math, right?

Also, Stevens knew what the date was, and knew the risk he was taking going to Benghazi. What your “experts” have yet to determine is why he chose to go, and with such a small security detail, to the region at that time. He knew the layout and the people far better than any of us armchair security experts, and he felt safe enough to go there. The attack was a surprise and was over in a few hours. AGAIN, if the commanders of our military on the ground didn’t know enough to send forces in, how does the WH know? And how sensible is it to send them in when you don’t know?

It was, and will remain a truly horrible massacre. And I would fully expect charges brought IF it is proven the WH purposely chose inaction. But you gotta prove it, and all the “but we KNOW it happened” ain’t gonna cut it. We KNEW Reagan was at least overlooking arms for hostages with Iran-Contra, but noone could ever pin it on him.

Fred,

Oh and how many shadowing incidents have you been involved in? They happen goofy dude and are not a cause for a freaking war. I remember years back on the CBS news us having a dispute with the Russians. They showed a Soviet cruiser purposely ramming an American frigate cruising parallel with it. This crap happens. It’s not something to start ww3 over. What the hell is wrong with you cowboy democrats? Geez.I

Doomy: Ramming a ship in international waters is different than ramming a plane while trying to force it to land in China. It’s not like it was a U-2 incident……. remember this one? I think they made a movie about it. The “cool” thing is that for years we were flying the U-2’s over them and they couldn’t do anything about it. Finally they got one with a SAM, they also shot down a MIG that was trying to catch him.

Of course it does. Just like you maintain that Obama makes up the staffing roster of security personnel at embassies because “the buck stops with him” Reagan is responsible for dirty deals like Iran Contra.

Wow, hypocrisy much? You would have been better off to have just had a cup of STFU and stayed OUT of this one. Or is JKL2 an alt of yours?

The Dunham ad was mildly offensive, reminding us all that Obama is not an honorable man…not that we needed an ad for that when Obama is weaseling about the attack in Libya. He cynically let men die while he hides behind finding out what happened 45 days after the fact.
However the children from the future ad is just wrong. It’s a new low in incivility. I thought in Obama’s “honor” we might respond in kind.
Democrats all want to destroy America.
They hate the country and its values.
They want the US to fail.
Democrats are all totalitarian statists
Democrats hate God
Democrats only want to murder their young
Democrats at economically stupid
Democrats love a culture of dependency.

See how easy it is…just what Obama is spending hundreds of millions of dollars to do.

Can he get any more dishonorable?

I’m sure most any Conservative will recite the same thing. Yet, Obama’s directly responsible for Benghazi and is responsible by proxy for “Fast and Furious” because of Holder.

I wonder if any Conservative, that believes that, realizes the contradiction in that logic……..

Kam – Ivanovic’s (sp) was a red card – pulled the player dwon as he was breaking for the goal. Maybe not intentional, but, that’s what happened. Think Torres’ was more of a question. He flopped right after running by Evans’. Dive maybe? Or just fell down. Really only he knows. But, supposedly the officials are cracking down on diving and this did look bad. Does he have the rep as a diver?

Brocephus,

No contradiction. Reagan is real responsible for Iran contra just as Obama is responsible for the Benghazi fiasco. Reagan is shown as having no direct knowledge of what was being done. That is probably the only reason he wasn’t indicted. But it still happened under his watch.
And his administration. Same with Obama.

It was where some underlings sold some arms in order to get American hostages freed. I know. I know.
