Apparently, the ad below has caused Republicans to triple their usual order for fainting couches. Kelly Fenton, deputy chair of the Minnesota Republican Party, tweeted yesterday that Satan must now be serving as Obama’s campaign adviser. The always reliable Erick Erickson of RedState.com preached that it’s evidence “we live in a fallen world destined for hellfire.”
That noted defender of American womanhood and feminine virtue, Rush Limbaugh, even denounced the ad as “an insult to women everywhere.” There is no truth to the rumor that he and his pals then boarded a plane bound for the Dominican Republic, copious supplies of Viagra in their baggage. Or maybe there is, I wouldn’t want to speculate.
Anyway, here’s the ad:
The ad won’t appear on mainstream TV, and probably not on TV anywhere at all. It is designed to be shared, on Facebook and elsewhere, by those for whom it is a target audience and who, given the comments of leading Republicans such as Richard Mourdock of Indiana and Todd Akin of Missouri, might have a lot at stake in this election. It was posted on Youtube yesterday, and already has more than a million views.
As for those outraged by the decline of today’s young people well, we’ve been down this road many many times before, now haven’t we?
————–
“Edgar! Edgar! Get in here and see what’s happening on the Sullivan show! It’s that Presley boy and he’s … ohmygoodness! … Did you see what he did with his … his hips? They let them do that on the television? My gracious! Did you see that Edgar!”
“It’s shocking, Maude, I do declare this country is destined for ….”
“Hush Edgar!! Hush! Get away from the TV, you old man, I think he’s gonna do it again!!

I hardly post to this web site on a Sunday, but it has been a slow news day. Since Bookman posted his 2 cents about that recent Team Obama ad, I will counter punch with my common sense reply.
That ad represents the culmination of liberal thinking that has permeated American society. It represents the low character that permeates the Democrat Party and the low road that the Democrat Party prefers to travel.
We all were witness to the national spotlight of the Clinton presidency and all of its extra marital dalliances of sexual behavior he had with women. May I remind you of Jennifer Flowers, Paula Jones, and Monica Lewinsky to name a few? May I remind you of the liberal reaction to all of the escapades? “What does sex have to do,with running the country as a president?” “Oral sex is not the same as sexual intercourse?”
I am no puritanical, Bible-thumping zealot, but considering the office of the presidency, there remains a level of decorum that should be honored and kept. Bill Clinton started a downhill slide into the gutter (I won’t even bring up FDR and JFK…oops, I did) and our American youth who considered him as a role model came away with an understanding that sex is a normal part of life without consequences.
What we now witness is a society with tattoos, body piercings, rampant divorce, single parenthood, and cavalier attitudes about sexual behavior. We saw an immoral liar as a president re-elected and subsequently held in high esteem well after his sordid terms in political office. We continue to see Clinton given standing ovations for his speaking engagements.
The point is that liberalism and the Democrat Party accepts low morals and low character. Liberals and the Democrat Party are just fine with living in the pig sloop they condone. This is why we now witness the type of low class ads spoken by young liberal Democrats.

The link below is a very sad development, to me. I believe that the way President Obama has been demonized by so many Americans, since the day he took office, has been a stain on America’s moral calibre. Truth will emerge, in time, regarding the injustice of the demonization that has been perpetuated against Presiden Obama, just as truth did emerge, in time, regarding the value of the Civil Rights Movement, and the lack of courage of the white Southern churches, of that era, to lend support to the Civil Rights Movement, which brought about a “more perfect union” within our nation, based on America’s original tenets and ideals.

You mean the Bush drunk twins? Or the unwed teenage mother?
I’m not familiar with anything said about Mrs. Romney… I think she’s a lovely woman and would make a great first lady.
So let’s compare the antics of the BushDrunk twins and Bristol Palin with the antics of Chelsea Clinton and Amy Carter… And then lets compare the statements made about all of them…

People call Republicans extremist, but its Democrats that hate the unborn. Its Democrats that said “we give them n%ggers this civil rights bill, they will vote for us 200 years”. Its Democrats that use the race care aka Bill Clinton. Its Democrats that hate business ask Delphi employees that felt the pain of the GM bankuptcy. Its Democrats that hate private sector jobs, ask the people ready to build the Keystone pipeline and the jobs in New Orleans. Its Democrats that lie with a straight face and blame others, like ATM machines and bad weather. Lie, Lie Lie, oh yes US of KKKA, Democrats and the New Black Panthers.

Yeah Donavan, the Republicans ARE the party of high morals right? Just ask Herman Cain and Newt Gingrich about marital fidelity. Or maybe Ask Mark Sanford. He’s a PILLAR of morality.
Oh and the Republican favorites, since so many here like to pick on the Presidents children, there is former Mitt Romney aide, Matthew Elliot, convicted of sexual exploitation of a child. Then there is Jane Orie’s aide, Alan Berlin who tried to do a little boy while wearing a panda suit.
Oh my yes, the Republicans are SO moral. How about John Atchinson/ Appointed under the Bush administration as a US assistant attorney who tried to solicit a FIVE YEAR OLD GIRL for sex?
Then there is former Florida Congressman Mark Foley who used a IM to solicit male pages for sex. Male UNDER AGE pages…..
Need I go on or has your hypocrisy seen enough “light?”

Please understand that in my 10:49 am post, I am not referring to race per se, but to the inability of people to break free of the thinking of the crowd with whom they associate or identify, and to think for themselves – deeply and with their own internal moral convictions – and then to voice those convictions even if they stand apart from their group. Not having the courage to do that is what is, today, taking away from this nation’s moral calibre and fibre, as I see it.

Amusing how selective memory edits out the racist Democart party contrbutions to Jim Crow, racisim and segregation led by the likes of Al Gore, Harry Byrd, George Wallace, William Fulbright, and many others. Without the full racist support of white supremicist democrats there would never have been a racial problem that morphed into the Democrat political strategy known as the “Solid South” which elected FDR three times.

I haven’t had any rain lately, but I still suspect I have a leak. I’m thinking it’s around the chimney chase, so I plan on re-paneling with some HardiePanel. I had thought to bring the paneling to about a ¼ to ½ inch of the roof shingles, but I got a sheet of instruction at Lowe’s that recommends a 2″ gap from the bottom of the panel to the roof shingles.
Any advice?

The Dixiecrats were leftover Dems who chose the party over the Carpetbagger Republicans post-Civil War. When the southern Dems began to adopt the policies of the New England Dems and started becoming more liberal, the Dixiecrats jumped ship. It worked well for the Southern White Strategy during Nixon’s ascension and sealed the deal. Minorities drifted the Democratic party as it became clear in the late 60’s what was happening in the South.

Righty: you’re absolutely right, but you leave out the shift that occurred after ‘65. LBJ basically ran off what was left of the Dixiecrats, who up to that point wouldn’t have taken the Republican name because they were the Carpetbaggers and Lincoln’s party, and we all know how revered they were in the South after the Civil War. As the party became increasingly liberal, as it was in the North, the Dixiecrats found themselves moving over after LBJ signed the Voting Rights and Civil Rights acts, and the Republican party eagerly took them in order to get Nixon elected in ‘68. That’s why states like Georgia gradually became increasingly Republican, crowned almost totally so by 2000.

Kam, on the hardieplank, you might want to check the manufacturer’s installation instructions and recommendations. They are usually available online. I know that GP and James Hardie have been there in the past. I’d trust them more than Lowe’s. But be sure you check the correct brand. Too often what is called hardiplank is not James Hardie. Mighty Righty, I am out the door, but the leadership – whether the leaders be Democrats or Republicans – only reflect the thinking of the people themselves whom they represent. My posts above were not about being a Democrats or a Republicans, but about the being able to make moral judgments by oneself, alone, and not under the influence of others, such as the influence politically of the Rev. Billy Graham.
It is quite sad to me that only one Southern Representative in the U.S. Congress remains a white Democrat. All the others are either white Republicans or black Democrats. There is something terribly wrong, morally, with that situation existing, imo.
I will remain a liberal Democrat in the South, even if all of my fellow Democrats are black. Just as I stood for integration in South Georgia, when I was a 16 year old high school girl and few stood with me, I will stand apart from my demograhpic group, today, because of my internal moral code of values. I am very disappointed that more white Southerners are not standing with me today, just as I was very disappointed that few white Southerners stood with me in the 1950s.
We each will answer to our own consciences, and each conscience, as each person, is varied. I simply decided to confront the issue by posting here this morning, with the hope that I have encouraged some to think about where their own consciences will lead them, aside from their groups’ thinking.

Kam: check your flashing around the chimney where it meets the roof also. I had to go up and put a good line of sealer around mine a couple of years ago to stop a leak. The challenge is going to be lifting the shingles a little in this cold, but if the sun comes out it should warm enough to lift them and make sure the flashing isn’t lifting or leaking around a nail hole or something. Also check around the chimney cap where the actual pipe comes out. That can get a leak also and it will travel. Seal that good also. I need to check mine again as it’s been a couple of years since I sealed it.

I’m rolling the dice with Trent. He practiced all week and was reported to show no signs of discomfort. I think he’s going to be better than last week.
As to the game last night, I’d have to say Bama is that good. It’s easy to say as a fan, but when you look at the entire picture, even non-fans will have to eventually say it as well. Since the game with Georgia Southern, nobody’s put up more than 14 points against them. Miss St didn’t score until the 2nd string took the field. The 2nd string offense still scored against Miss St as well. The last time they went into halftime trailing an opponent was the 2010 game against South Carolina.
Next week will be the ultimate test though. Les Miles has only been beaten twice at night in Baton Rouge.

Well the “natural way” is not saying much…. its clear that the GOP considers rape as part of the “natural way” and one of “gods ways”. And before someone has a little girl hissy fit, I am not saying that Del committed rape. He can deny that on his own. I don’t for a minute believe that he meant to suggest that he raped someone to have a child or that it even crossed his mind …. its the GOP that includes rape as part of “natural way”.

Funny how things come to the mind. Unmentionable is on his way over to Youngest Boy’s now with a cooler of steaks. It’s this thing he does from time to time. He doesn’t say anything, but I know where it comes from. When the boys’ Mama died and the Dad couldn’t handle it, there was a hard time in their young lives, before Daddy o’d'd on the side of the road. We had to fight to fill Mama’s dying wish that they come to us. Anyway, right after they came, U was straightening out their bed and found where Youngest Boy had “hidden” a piece of pizza. U is a stoic fellow and that’s one of the very few times I saw him cry. Ever since then, he’s had this thing of making sure that the boy has the best food obtainable…

They are a bit morally tight on the surface, but every one of ‘em has a family member who’s ‘different’ and they totally support it on a personal level. Those two younguns have been the best thing I ever did!
Debbie: Thanks for butting in- it’s allowed, what with the boa and all. I always did respect a gal who could work one of those things. They are every bit mine and they know it. They hear from the bio daddy every now and then, but they say they wouldn’t go back to that if somebody paid them. That’s why all the debate about bc gets me worked up. Why in the name of Gawd Amighty would want to stop someone from preventing a pregnancy she doesn’t want? There are only so many childless uncles and aunts to take them, you know?

After realizing that he had been cynically manipulated by Richard Nixon and his aides, resulting in a stain on his ministry that has never fully faded, Billy Graham resisted joining the Religious Right in the late 1970s and warned religious leaders “to be wary of exercising political influence.”
Because of Billy Graham’s reentering the political arena “out of due season” and focusing on a topic [homosexuality] that was never central to his ministry when he was active, some have suspected that Franklin Graham has steered his father in this direction, perhaps against his will or at least without full enthusiasm…
Billy Graham has long been a registered Democrat and has supported politicians on both sides of the aisle. In the 1980s and 1990s, he declined to embrace the Religious Right. The exposure of Richard Nixon’s corruption made Graham wary of future involvement in political partisanship.
His son Franklin, however, has had close relations with leaders of the Religious Right, and has been much more willing than his father to openly identify with their agenda…This may represent a change of views on the part of a frail 93-year-old man. Or they may represent the views of his son. Since Graham himself no longer speaks in public, we simply cannot know for certain…

@josef 12:24- my youngest told me after I’d had them a few months (he was 3 then), “I not go back to mommy’s house, to that bad house.” I said then I’d fight hell itself to keep them. The crack kept that from happening. I’ve gotta give U some props for the cooler of steaks. They’re still your younguns even when they’re grown. Mine get after me all the time to stop calling them ‘baby’….I ignore them!

JM: That article was meaningless to me. the guy has his “reasons” for not voting for Obama:
He failed as president because he is incompetent, dishonest and not interested in the actual work of governing. His statist policies helped consign millions of Americans to a lower standard of living and his odious class warfare further divided the nation. He had no intention of uniting the country — it was his Big Lie.
Yet he gives no examples of any of the things he accuses Obama of. I think it’s dishonest or lazy journalism. Now I DIDN’T check to see if that was an opinion piece. If it’s an opinion piece then I retract the “journalism” thing, but I still maintain it’s meaningless without examples.

@Bro 12:19- what’s interesting is how Gary Johnson is shaking things a bit. I’m thinking if enough of the footwashers and snake handlers vote for him, we could see some electoral shake-up for sure. It wouldn’t take all that many up in the Alabama hills or here in Gawgia for that matter.

Folks here in the big city couldn’t believe that U and I would go “up there” and commute in and out of Atlanta to raise the kids. They just stared when we told them we wanted them to grow up in an environment that reflected out home values.
I’ve told this one before several times here, but one of my favorite stories from there was when the Baptist preacher up the way came to invite us to visit their “church community.” I politely told him that we were gay. The response was certainly not what I was expecting, “couples night is Thursday.”

@Fred: my favorite accusation was this one:
“His statist policies helped consign millions of Americans to a lower standard of living”
Nooooooo, that was a failed economy caused by a wildly speculative real estate scheme cooked up by Wall St. bond raters that forced millions out of work and millions more to lose savings and real estate value. Now how Obama did that years before he was even elected, I’ll never know.

Great piece today Jay. Perhaps you should point out to all our TEA/GOP ers to check out the Washington Post Nov. 1 1980 where St. Reagan made a similar joke concerning “the first time” but I don’t recall the GOP getting the vapors and requiring a couch due to the sensitivity of St. Reagan’s remarks… matter of fact they all laughed it off… so if a saint can get away with it back then…. why not today?

The Dunham is obviously a slick video aimed at the first time female voter. Why not appeal to their patriotism or perhaps to their love of country rather than equate voting for the first time to losing their virginity. This ad some cutsy attempt to garner teenage voters by appealing to their sense of “cool”. Anyone stupid enough to use this ad as a reason for voting for the biggest loser in recent political memory is obviously an airhead liberal who puts more stock in MTV than in the latest economic growth numbers. This chicanery has no place in a presidential election no matter who the candidate. Is this all Bozo and the gang have to offer?

Girl Child’s Mama straightened out (well, sorta!) married a good man (even if he is a Yankee Republican!) who respected mine and U’s role in the order of things. The Mama’s family is like our own. Real live, honest to G-d West Virginia Hillbillies, their own transformation with us was something else. We got a big joke out of one of the in-laws there. Before she and her husband tied the knot, they went up to visit. They were put in separate bedrooms, When U and I went. we were put in the same bedroom. In Mama K’s and Papa M’s eyes we were married!

The reason I hold that wa-do Del in such low esteem was one night when he said of our three that at least he came by his the “natural way.”
Ummm, aren’t all children created through natural processes. Even if the sperm and egg need a bit of mechanical manipulation to find each other, Mother Nature tends to be required beyond that point. Right?

“It involves Sherman, Mr. Peabody and the wayback machine.”
And that machine has been in overdrive the past four years. But no matter how they try to rewrite history, they can’t get past the fact that they coudn’t even let Bush come to the convention, let alone speak. What does that say when a party has to shun its most recent spokesman and try to pretend he never existed?
Fred: I grew up in south Fulton, which has always been a geographical anomaly. Twenty minutes from downtown and as country as it gets. I wanted that small community closeness for my boys too. I think it has made a difference to be away from the hubub of the big city while raising them.

josef: oddly enough, I’ve noticed the hillbillies and good old gun-totin’ rebel flag wavers are pretty open-minded once they get to know you. They have a good gut sense about people. Too bad the party leadership they tend to follow doesn’t have that same sense. In reality, when you sit with them one-on-one, they’re not all as bad as the stereotypes make them seem.

I’m thinking of going with Gary Johnson myself. The good thing about living in Georgia is that I can pretty much vote for whomever I choose and not lose an ounce of sleep. We already know Romney’s going to take GA because of the (R) behind his name. Not that I would give a rat’s ass either way, but there has to be a bit of pressure in states like Ohio where, if you don’t vote or vote for the “right” one, they might actually lose.

Bro: I’m pretty sure Romney will get Georgia, but I will be interested to see how Johnson affects the margin. He seems like a pretty good guy from what I’ve seen and read. Unfortunately, he’s up against a well-funded machine that has already set its course. And early on, I was actually impressed by Pawlenty. Moderate, fair, and intelligent, but he was so not ready for the big leagues and taking on the corporate backed Romney steamroller. I’m liberal, but I’m not a brainwashed fool- I woulda had a hard time choosing if somebody like Pawlenty had managed to win the nomination.
