Apparently, the ad below has caused Republicans to triple their usual order for fainting couches. Kelly Fenton, deputy chair of the Minnesota Republican Party, tweeted yesterday that Satan must now be serving as Obama’s campaign adviser. The always reliable Erick Erickson of RedState.com preached that it’s evidence “we live in a fallen world destined for hellfire.”
That noted defender of American womanhood and feminine virtue, Rush Limbaugh, even denounced the ad as “an insult to women everywhere.” There is no truth to the rumor that he and his pals then boarded a plane bound for the Dominican Republic, copious supplies of Viagra in their baggage. Or maybe there is, I wouldn’t want to speculate.
Anyway, here’s the ad:
The ad won’t appear on mainstream TV, and probably not on TV anywhere at all. It is designed to be shared, on Facebook and elsewhere, by those for whom it is a target audience and who, given the comments of leading Republicans such as Richard Mourdock of Indiana and Todd Akin of Missouri, might have a lot at stake in this election. It was posted on Youtube yesterday, and already has more than a million views.
As for those outraged by the decline of today’s young people well, we’ve been down this road many many times before, now haven’t we?
————–
“Edgar! Edgar! Get in here and see what’s happening on the Sullivan show! It’s that Presley boy and he’s … ohmygoodness! … Did you see what he did with his … his hips? They let them do that on the television? My gracious! Did you see that Edgar!”
“It’s shocking, Maude, I do declare this country is destined for ….”
“Hush Edgar!! Hush! Get away from the TV, you old man, I think he’s gonna do it again!!

Mr.B- yep, and after one recession hit it pretty hard, the second just about wiped it out. I would have been so, so much better off if I had just put it in a savings account like my parents advised. In the long run, you can make money off an investment account if you have it long enough to bounce up and down with the economy, but unless you’re investing big dollars, I think more traditional savings are better. They grow slower, but in my experience it still would have ended up better than it did.
“once it’s proven unfortunately post election that he was behind the stand down order and subsequent cover up”
That’s going to be a bit of a challenge, Recon, considering that Panetta and Gen. Ham have already stated that noone, including the CIA and WH had enough information to even know who was attacking or what would be safe to do. They weren’t going to risk lives and an even worse international incident by sending combat troops or materials into that horrible event without at least knowing who to shoot at, and that would be the case under any president. Seems to me that if Ham didn’t know enough to make a decision, how could the president?

Dr. R, 2:02 pm
“Mary Elizabeth, I am sorry to offend, but I’m being honest. I’m a Libertarian and I believe issues involving our bodies and personal choices shouldn’t be part of a national debate, and truly wish all could move on to more substantive matters. I do condemn both sides for this. I concede that as a man, perhaps I just don’t fully understand, which is why my original post was in the form of a question. I really don’t get it. Again, just being honest.”
========================================
Dr. R, I appreciate your reflective response to my post and I think it is worthy of an attempted response from me. I have not had time to do justice to the quality of response I would have preferred this afternoon, but I have made a few comments that may enlighten you, as I see your need in that regard, as a woman.
Rape is never a “trivial” matter to women and it is always “personal.” It involves dominance and control over a woman’s body and over her soul. If a woman is forced by men – Legislative men – to carry to term an embryo created by that unholy union, then the violation done the woman initially in the rape will have been compounded 400+ times over through the legislative mandate which forces the woman to carry to term of the unwanted fetus. Some women may choose to give that embryo “life” even as a result of that horrifying rape circumstance, but another woman may not be able to bear up under carrying to term – and to personhood – an embryo of that unholy and demeaning union – forever linking her with her violator, even if she were to allow for adoption.
Furthermore on a different point, if a woman does not have control of how many children she will bear, if any, then she is not in control of her own destiny in addition to not being in control of her own body. Legislators, instead, will hold her destiny within their limited perceptions. She, in fact, may be the superior of those Legislative men, yet they will grant themselves the power to dominate her selfhood and her destiny, by allowing themselves control over how many children, if any, she will bear. One-half of the population are women – some women more enlightened than others, just as is true with men. But, for you to dismiss this issue as “trivial” in relation to other national issues, such as the unemployment rate, tells me that you have lingering perceptions, perhaps unconscious ones to you, that men are inherently superior to women because these issues of body that effect the destiny of women are not as important to you as “more pressing” issues. That belief goes against everything in me that cries out that all are equal.
A fetus of any union, at some point in the pregnancy, will have personhood, too, and I believe that abortion should not occur after the point of gestation in which the fetus is viable to life outside the uterus, except in unusual circumstances. Those unusual circumstances are worthy of a national dialogue, but to proclaim and pass into law that an egg and a sperm, once fertilized, cannot be aborted except in the case in which a mother may lose her own life, is punitive, paternalistic, and unrealistic beyond belief. This is the position of Romney/Ryan and every women in America should be appalled at their position. I have no doubt that Romney/Ryan would overturn Roe v. Wade with their selections of Supreme Court Justices.
Young women do not have a point of reference of earlier years in America’s history in which women remained in marriages in which they were miserable for life because of few options available to them outside of being a wife and mother. Young women do not have a point of reference to that period of American history when abortions were illegal and some women died on back alley abortion tables of hacks, bleeding to death. Or when desperate women tried to abort themselves using coathangers to do the butchery in private and alone, because abortions were illegal. Those legislative men have no real understanding of what they will be sending women back into with their pretending that the abortion issue is not a priority or worthy of national debate equal to equal pay for equal work or other “pressing” issues. These are the same legislative men who would outlaw hormonal birth control.
I will never accept that blacks are inherently inferior to whites, nor that any ethnic group is inherently superior to any other, just as I will never accept that men are inherently superior to women. Most men will tell you they think the same way that I think, yet some men today are trying very hard to turn back the clock on women’s rights and/or they are dismissive of women’s issues as “not critical” but “trivial.” How would you feel were you born a woman? Use a little emphatic imagination and you will know without explanation.

According to statistics for higher education (there is a center for such research) 56% of college attendees are women. So, we will have a smarter electorate if more women vote. Since there is also a correlation between more education and voting democratic, this means more women will continue to vote for democrats. The republicans ignore this trend at their own peril.
If Obama wins (as the odds now suggest he will), in 2016 Hillary will have an amazing series of chits to call in with Bill, and now Barrack, owing her a lot. Maybe, by then, we can catch up to those other macho countries – Brasil and Argentina – and have a woman in the White House. And, like many other social trends, once they get there, it will be hard to go back.

If he had honor he would not have headed off to a celebrity appearance just after refusing to send aid to an ambassador and his inadequate security team. Okay…Alabama girl gets married and two days later the groom’s family brings her back because she was a virgin…and why would that be cause? If she ain’t good enough for her own family, she ain’t good enough for ours…

How do we know Jesus was Jewish? He lived at home until he was 30, he worked for his Daddy, he thought his mother was a virgin and she thought he was G-d…

Bro: the Hokes Bluff ones ain’t the best representation of the family, that’s for sure. The last time I saw that bunch was when we buried Granny in Rainbow City, and I won’t even go into how they dressed. As Granny would have said “bless their hearts, they don’t know no better.”
josef: good one at 6:21!!!!

Here’s one for ya, Josef:
A man dies, goes to Heaven, and is being shown around. St. Peter shows him some of the streets, pointing out the ones for the Methodists, the Presbyterians, the Lutherans, etc. Finally they reach this wall, as high as the man could see and off into the horizon on both ends. He asks St. Peter, “what’s behind the wall?” St. Peter replies, “shhhhhh. It’s the Southern Baptists. They think they’re the only ones here!”

We all know that the female body is hostile x chromosome. The more older brothers a young man has the greater the chance he’s gay. The Romney five, maybe number four or number five is a latent homosexual?

Josef, I was referring to the one about the Tribe. Have now saved the other to read later. Must also say you bein’ a sassy fellow here this evening.
Mary Elizabeth, should have included you with Debbie & Matti. We all need to keep talking & supporting each other. I would say Woman Power, but there are many men, including our president, who believe as we do and say so.
Common sense, thanks for asking. I wish I could say I was feeling better. SIGH! But at least have now cleared all the necessary – wow! who knew there were so many! So, my surgery will be scheduled soon. Will keep y’all posted. Again, thanks for asking.

Shoot, I was only number 2. If they’d a few more, RuPaul might have had some competition!
